| Fitness | Eliptical everyday? | Nov 19 2009 18:48 (UTC) |
8 |
You can do it everyday, but you may get bored with it. You may want to be a bit adventurous and try out the weights, or do maybe half of your time on the elliptical and the other half lifting some weights. Maybe concentrate on arms one day and legs the next. If you decide you're not ready for weights, you are still okay to do the elliptical everyday. |

Eating the right foods is just as important as staying within your calorie range and working out. You feel like crap because that's what you're eating. That's also the reason, I think, you've lost your motivation. You need to stop and rethink what you're doing to yourself. Is this who you want to be? There is nothing wrong with eating the stuff that tastes good, but is not so good for you once in a while, but you need more balance. |

I would try 30 day shred, but do all 3 levels at a time. Tae bo is okay, but it's hard to find one that will kick your butt. I know you don't want to order a video, but I really would check out P90X. If you have an "As seen on TV" store in a local mall, you can sometimes find it there. It won't kill you, but it will challenge you:)

Increasing your heartrate burns calories, it really doesn't matter how you do it. Mixing everything in and trying new things is best for overall weight loss. Cardio obviously burns calories and gets you the quickest results, but lifting helps build muscle that will increase your metabolism and help you maintain those great results. Mixing things up will help you overcome plateaus. Have fun with it, then in won't feel like such a chore. |

Ditto everything crimson667 posted. It absolutely focuses on muscles, so much so that I didn't feel it had enough cardio, so I substitute on those days. I also just ordered insanity by beach body to incorporate into my P90X videos. I don't think you'll be disappointed. |

There's no way you gained fat and lost muscle. I wouldn't trust his results. I think you are on the right track with your diet and exercise. Congratulations on losing the 33lbs so far! |

Honestly, I think you may still be sick and need more help than we can give you. We all have off days. You can't change what you've already done, so watch what you eat the rest of the day. You'll be fine. |

I love a good challenge, so I had to try. My pull-up bar at home isn't quite high enough that I have to jump up to reach it, so I did the full burpee with the jump and then went and did a pull-up. I was able to get 100 in exactly 20 minutes. I'm definitely going to feel that tomorrow |

We all have those days that we feel like a bottomless pit and could eat everything put in front of us. Those are the days that test us the most. If you are hungry it is okay to eat, but you know mini candy bars probably aren't your wisest choice. It's okay to go over your calories from time to time, but do your best to do it with calories that count. Crackers with some fiber and some laughing cow cheeese, popcorn, fruit, yogurt, low sugar pudding, etc. I know how it feels after eating a bunch of crap, it doesn't feel good. Forgive yourself and start over tomorrow. |

I think you can do this without help too. I think it's at least worth a try. You know you're strong and are cabable of doing this. Stop looking at the end goal, take it day by day, and set smaller goals first. Also, do not think of this as a diet. You just need to "adjust" what you're eating. I'm a volume eater, so to tell me to eat just a little of something is a joke. Instead, think of it as a game for yourself. Find substitutes for your favorites. I have done this for everything, except ice cream. Just can't find something that delicious:) If you know your weaknesses, don't buy them. If they are not readily available to binge on, there's a better chance you'll get creative and find a sub. That being said, you should allow yourself a guilt-free indulgence once in a while. You're human, and it's okay. Knowing you'll be rewarded helps keep you on track. As for being 21 and prekids, don't stress about it. If anything, you'll have a good head on your shoulders when and if you do decide to have kids. And if you let yourself go, you'll know how to get back into shape after. I have 2 kids and am in the best shape of my life. You know you can do this!! |

Just because you've injured your knee doesn't mean you can't exercise at all. I used to be a runner, but also injured my knee. There are still plenty of exercised you can do that have no impact on your knee. You can lift weights or do resistance training, go biking, or find a pool to swim or run in the water. I think that's great that your diet is going well, and you have made progress, but don't let an injury be an excuse for not working out. |

I think you are on the right track, you need to eat more. You're tall and need more than 12-1400 calories, especially on workout days. I know it does seem a bit counter-productive, but the extra calories aren't from junk, it's healthy food to help fuel your metabolism and help your body recover from a good workout. I would try upping your calories. Be sure to give your body time to adjust to the new calorie range. You may gain a little at first, but it will come back off. Good luck and good for you for choosing to be healthier |

| Weight Loss | When to switch to maintenance? | Oct 16 2009 05:31 (UTC) |
7 |
When I started this after having my second child, I initially picked a weight I new I could get to and maintain. It was not an unrealistic goal, which unfortunately I think a lot of people set. I never focused a lot on the numbers, I paid more attention to eating right and exercising. When I hit my "goal" weight, I still felt that I had more to give. I never set another number though. I just continued to eat in a calorie range appropriate for my age and activity level, and the weight just kept coming off. I have now plateued, but it's a good platue. I'm much lower than I ever thought I would be, but I just let it happen. I eat 5 or 6 times a day, continue to count calories, mostly out of habit, and I still exercise. I guess what I'm getting at is a number is just a number. We should focus more on eating right and setting exercise goals( push yourself farther than you thought you could or try something new) In order to maintain yourself, you have to enjoy what you are doing to get there. Find foods you love to eat that are still good for you and find exercise that keeps you motivated and you enjoy doing. |

| Weight Loss | Obsessed with Bad Foods | Oct 16 2009 05:20 (UTC) |

I could have written that myself. I totally understand!! I can't open an ice cream container without finishing it. How bad is that. I have found a substitute for everything else I used to eat, but can't seem to find something to replace my ice cream. I have come to the conclusion that I have to accept it as a flaw and figure out a way to incorporate it. I used to try the whole "have a little everyday", but that doesn't do it for me. Good for those that it works for though:) So I've made a deal with myself. Once every 2 weeks, I allow myself to splurge, guilt free. I exercise and eat right for every meal and snack, there is no reason why I can't reward myself with an unhuman serving of ice cream once in a while If you ever figure out something else, please share. Better yet, I think I'll just keep my ice cream. |

I can see why you don't have any motivation, you sound totally stressed. I would be too. As hard as it is though, you have to cut yourself some slack. Comfort foods are just that, they make us feel better when we're stressed and getting away from emotionally eating is extremely difficult, but you know that 's what you have to do. I'm not saying you should go straight to munching on carrot sticks, but try to find healthier snacks you can munch on and some quick, easy, healthy meals. As for no longer being as toned. You may just have to accept that for now until your schedule calms a bit. During the week, just try to squeeze in 10 min. breaks of some sort of exercise. And if you aren't working weekends, make time then for a full workout. Good luck to you! |

Being a similar height and weight, I'd like to first say, I really doubt any part of you is "big". Having previously starved yourself, I'm a little cautious to answer your post. I worry that you may have a body image disorder. I am glad that you are eating healthy, and 1400-1700 calories sounds about right. Now just because literature says someone of your height can weigh 98lbs and still be healthy does not by any means suggest that should be your goal. Genetically you may not be able to get down that low, and that should be fine with you. If you are unhappy with your image, I would suggest toning as opposed to doing more cardio. Once a month isn't doing much of anything for you. You need a variety of workouts to keep your muscles guessing and to keep you away from a plateau. Although, remember, it's okay to plateau if you are at a healthy weight. Adding muscle will not make you bulky. It will tone you and it will increase your metabolism. Cardio workouts temporarily increase metabolism whereas resistance training increases your metabolism for a longer period of time. You may not sweat like you're used to, but rest assure, if you are doing things correctly, your body will respond. I do hope you learn to appreciate the body you were given and see it as a gift and not something that is horrible to look at. |

It depends how big your salad is and how much dressing you are putting on it. Is this in a cafeteria, or do you have access to the calories in the dressing? I guess either way, if you really want to know, ask how many calories are in the dressing. A normal serving size is 2 tablespoons. |

Not the results they advertise. I'm not sure why you would pay the money you did if you're not going to use the most useful videos. Lifting weights is a huge part of this program. It's great that you are doing cardio 3 days a week with some ab work, but if you want real results, do the program, it's totally worth it! |

Another fun, easy, tasty way to eat oatmeal is to make it into a pancake. I use a package of instant oatmeal, 1 egg white, 1/4 cup of milk and 1 tblspoon of raisins. Mix together and make in a pan just like a pancake. It's almost like having an oatmeal raisin cookie for breakfast:) |

First of all, I totally agree with you. I have been able to give up or substitute something for every other craving except ice cream. Nothing beats it! 1. I prefer store bought, Edy's. I prefer it because I get more for the money. Probably not a good idea though for watching portions. 2. Lately, my preferred flavor is Edy's loaded cookie dough. It's heavenly:) 3. I don't usually add toppings. If I was at a sundae bar and had vanilla ice cream with every topping in front of me, I would add caramel and chocolate. 4. I prefer to eat right out of the carton:) I know, I have a problem. There needs to be an ice cream recovery program:) |

Oh, I completely agree with blueberry_lips. I'm not sure where to start either. For one, you are not getting enough calories in a day, unless you are eating a lot of oatmeal and cereal. That would be the reason you are loosing weight. And you are not getting enough nutrients from your food. It's fine to really enjoy a certain food and eat it a lot, but be realistic, you know you need other foods in your diet. |

I went to an orthopedic doctor for my knee pain. You could start there, or there are also docs that specialize in Sports Medicine. See what you can find in your area and go from there. I hope you find some answers, I know how it feels not being able to run when you really want to. Good luck |
