Frank- I took my little man out trick-or-treating tonight...but since he is only three months that means I have candy...not so great for eating good! I will have to start over tomorrow...but I think that I should leave my candy loot here at my moms house when I take my five hour drive home tomorrow, otherwise we all know i will eat it ALL during the drive. You know I realized something, I LOVE being outside in the fall. But I live in the middle of know where on a highway- meaning no neighborhood to walk around in. I really would enjoy getting outside and walking around a neighborhood...if only I could come up with a good solution to that problem! I am finally starting to look forward to starting a clean lifestyle again. Thank goodness too as I am loosing valuable time before next swimsuit season! I kind of feel like a bum since my husband has been out elk hunting all week (which means miles and miles of hiking every day) and I have been at my moms sitting (or shopping, which is plenty of walking) and eating like crap. boo on me. BUT the fact that I am feeling ready to try again (finally) is a really welcome change! Have a great rest of the weekend everyone! and Happy Halloween! |

I love this topic! I feel as if it was done just for me :) So lets see, three excuses... 1) I just dont have time to eat healthy/ Eating healthy is too much work. 2) I am too tired to work out today/ I just dont have the energy to do it. 3) You know, if I just started working out I wouldnt need to eat healthy to lose wieght.
So lets see what can i tell myself to make these excuses go away? Ummm... 1) It doesnt take any more effort/time to eat an apple then it does to eat a candy bar. PLUS it takes a lot less time to work off the calories from an apple then it does to work off the calories from a candy bar! 2) One of the reasons that I dont have as much energy as I would like is because I am too sedimentary. If I work out more my energy levels will go up and I will feel a lot better. 3) If I do both together I will lose the weight much faster. Both are needed to keep me healthy. And if I am doing one I might as well be doing both so that I am getting the most bang for my buck.
I like what someone else mentioned earlier- Just convince yourself that you have 10 min to work out, then once you start stretch that time. Starting is that hardest part for me. Both for eating healthy and for working out. I spent this week at my moms house with younger siblings- and the workouts were non-existent, and candy way prevalent. At least I walked around the mall and did a bunch of shopping with a 15+ pound baby on my chest, I suppose that is something! When I get home I really do have to make a better effort or I am going to be uncomfortable with how I look forever. And I dont want that for myself. |

well from what i know there are two schools of thought out there. the first one is often promoted by oxygen magizen- eat something small before a workout to give your body fuel so your workout will be more successful. so yogurt, toast with peanut butter, ext. the second is promoted by the body for life work out program which was designed by bill phillips- the owner of EAS. he says work out first thing in the morning without eating because your body is in fasting mode and will have no other fuel to burn then the fat in your body. so i figure its your choice. personally i work out harder if i have had some food- but the are plenty of days i work out before i eat.
oh and bill phillips also says dont eat for 30 min after a work out cause your still burning caloies- which says to me, take a shower then eat. :) |

sometimes snacking is a reaction to how we are feeling rather then hunger. I snack when I am bored, or when i am stressed. one way to help stop this is to have my snack meals be something that i can munch on- like trail mix, or popcorn, or nuts. another reason i binge is due to cravings- i love chocolate. diet or not i want it. so that is where trail mix helps- make it yourself with the nuts you like, the dried fruits you like, and with some dark chocolate chocolate chips. another option is to buy some meal replacement bars. I think that the Detour bars that are caramel peanut taste kind of like snickers. |

Ok so working out and eating healthy has been a bust. all of those pounds that i lost that i was so proud of, yeah they are back. i am sure that i have lots more to say, but Isaac is crying, so i should go. But i did update everyones dates, however i did not delete the missing people. i will wait till sometime next week to start that project. good work everyone! I am sorry i have been slacking so much. I am really going to try harder, but i have NO desire to be healthy right now, which is supper depressing cause i want to be healthy. *sigh* till later, keep up the good work. |

sigh* ok well i dont even have my husband to blame this time because HE has been doing great- working out and eating healthy. I just feel like i cant do it. I know that is just silly, because of course I CAN do it- but that it how i feel. i love my son, but I feel like he just takes up SOOO much time. I mean every morning its get up, feed him, feed me, feed him, work out, feed him, shower, feed him...by then its one! and that is all i have gotten done. my house is a wreck. i am a terrible wife- my husband works all day, then comes home cleans the house AND figures out what is for dinner, all while playing with his son AND visiting with me. I just feel so overwhelmed with it all that i want to cry. And to top it all off i am picking up shifts at my old job (as a cocktail waitress), and got called in tonight- but I have NOTHING to wear that fits and hides my fat while making me look cute. My solution- go shopping. But I cant do that because we need the money for christmas not covering up my problems. My husband is so great, so supportive and down to earth. He keeps telling me that is just is not that hard to eat healthy...but I cant get into it. I cant get out of the funk enough to care to eat healthy. I mean i do for a day or two- maybe even a week, and i see great progress...but then i get lazy. and i quit trying. i just dont know how to beat that i dont care and i cant do it feeling. |

today did not start so good- chocolate cake for breakfast :( and no workout yet! But I will try to get a workout in at some point today, and I have a lot of housework to do- and since cleaning burns calories more then watching tv i guess i should be thankful! I have not been doing a good job with my goal of working out, but this week we are going to try and change that! After having Isaac I was losing the weight without doing anything, but it seems to have stopped- now i just bounce around between 162-167...I feel that if I could work out and eat better and get into the 150's I would finally be more motivated and feel like I was making progress. |

hey everyone- sorry i have been gone so long. I have been struggling to be healthy, both in eating and in working out. As well as that I have been super busy with family occasions, my husband working at home (as opposed to on the road like normal), helping my father start his new business, and going back to work to pick up a few shifts. Its funny, I felt like I was doing SO good for a week- working out, eating good...i even lost 5lbs. But it ended just as soon as it started. But tomorrow morning is the beginning of a new week, and once again I am going to jump back onto the wagon. I cant keep putting off getting healthy or next years water skiing will be just as horrible as this years!
Marcekd- you should try all fruit Popsicles (the sugar free ones) to make you feel better, nice and cold but not as bad for you! feeling sick is horrible, hope you feel better soon! |

Patsy- Of course I will add you back onto the list, I will do it as soon as I do the rest of the updates for this week! However, the reason that you got taken off is because when I did the updates this week you had not checked since 9/26- and since one of the "rules" (one of the only rules) is that you have to check in every week I took you off. The reason that I do that is because it is the only way for me to know that you are still interested in the challenge. Anyways, I will add you back on, but I do not know what you date was so I will have to add you back as of 10/6 which is when you did your first post this week. I am sorry but I have no way of going back to see what your date was.
Remember everyone- I have no problem doing restarts, or adding you back the the list at any time. I dont like it when we lose members of this challenge as they are more like friends by now. However, if you do not check in I will take you off of the list. Sorry. |

Alright, so I admit it, I have been hiding because I have been being so unhealthy! Every day has been full of (oh so good) yucky foods. But not today. Today I am back! Heck I even worked out! And we have started a new challenge in my household! See my husband wants to lose some weight even worse then I do, but we are SOOO horrible together, so I came up with a challenge that will give us rewards for our good behavior, but also punish us for our bad behavior! This includes eating, working out, and even cussing- i figure it is a habit that we need to break before Isaac is old enough to start mimicing us! So here is how it works- we each get $12 a week. Cheating on food costs you a dollar per food. Not working out costs you a dollar per day. Cussing costs you .25 a word. And where does all this money go when we are bad? Into Isaacs college fund of course! Anyways, today was day one...so far I am winning! I worked out, I have been eating good, and I have not said one swear word (pretty easy to do when it is just you and the baby!), on the other hand poor brad has lost over $3 due to swearing! I told him he was going to run out of money if he keeps it up! Anyways, I just wanted to stop in and say, hey! I am still alive, and I will be back on later tonight (I hope) to update everything! And to read and respond to all of your wonderful posts! |

Wow- one month already huh? it has gone by very fast! and the worst part is i think that i have spent more of the last month off the wagon then on it. sad. So this week has not been so great for me, actually the end of last week was not either. My husband and I are bad influences on eachother. i am not sure why, but we sabatoage ourselves and eachother when we are together. but that has to end. today was a good day, and even though yesterday was not, it had good points. my husband and I worked out a new system to help "clean up" our lives. We have our own personal challenge going with monitary rewards. If we cheat with food or excersise we lose money- the money goes into our sons college fund, so really no one is a loser! After setting those peramiters I actually worked out today. Hopefully it will get easier soon cause i am drained and it took a LOT of effort to make myself do it. So I am going to share a little bit about me rather then having someone else do it...and of course if you have any questions or want to know more just ask! I am 24 years old. I have a 3 month old son, and have been married to my wonderful husband for just over a year. We live in Oregon up in the mountains, and I do not think that there is a place I would rather live. My husband and I always marvel at how good it feels to come over the mountain passes and drop into our valley after being out of town for a bit. We hadnt planed on having kids so soon, so it has been quite an adjustment, but I really love being a mommy. Being pregnant was really hard because i kept gaining weight, and while i did not like it I got used to the idea. Big mistake. Now i am down 30 pounds, with 20 more to go to get back to pre-pregnancy weight, and 20 after that to be at my goal weight...but 30 pounds down makes me feel so much thinner that I have very little drive to do anything. Except for the fact that I was an utter failure at waterskiing, so I HAVE to fix that before next summer! Boating with my family is one of the most special things in my life- well for that matter family in general is a huge part of our lives. We do sunday dinner every week, and my mom is a WONDERFUL cook...but not really so great for eating healthy! anyways, I need to go get ready for a nephews first birthday party! Hope that everyone continues to have a great week! |

and i just want to add, some one suggested letting him go back and re-do k...the benefit of this is that kindergarden is the least detremental time to hold a child back. it is less embarrising for them the it is if you get to second or third grade and they are so far behind from trying to play catch up that you HAVE to hold them back. sometimes it is exactly what they need. |

Tif- Alright, so i just finished my masters in education, and although i did not specialise in elementry ed, we did learn a lot about how children learn. First off, the easiest time for people to learn is from age 0-3, after that the amount of time it takes our brains to learn new things starts to slow down. which is one reason why it is important to talk to babies and read to young children. it is also why some people teach their toddlers to be bi-lingual, they learn better at a young age. now that being said- scoring six months below where they should be is often a common thing- sad as that is. I do not think that i would jump to conclusions about him having a learning disability- however if you want you could ask that the school has him tested. there are checksheets that they will go through and he will have to do all sorts of IQ tests and behavior tests. if they determine that he does have a learning disability of some kind they will be able to get you started on either an IEP (individual educaton plan) or on a 504- both of these documents are designed to protect your son in the coming years to insure that he is getting all of the help that he needs to have a successful education. However, like i said, i am not sure that you need to do that just yet. talk to his teachers, are they concerned? Also how are his verbal language skills? is he meeting other developmental milestones? one of the reasons that his kindergarden teacher probably recomended that the stay in that class is because he may not have been developmentaly ready to learn in the manner that first grade is taught. Kindergarden is more of a 'fun' learning environment. Honestly i think that i would start by sitting down with his teacher, most likely she will know if you have need to be concerned. But if she is not concerned then take heart, fact is that children who go into classes ahead of the rest of the class (or behind) are all at the same reading level (or close) by the third grade. The dispareties that you see now will most likely even out- so long as there is not any problem and you continue to work with him. It sounds like you are a great mother! it is every teachers dream to hear that their students are being read to every night! |

hey everyone! Ok so this week was going good, then the hubby came home! Good news is that there have been no "binge" days or meals, but it hasnt been too healthy either! But yesterday i did ride the bike for 20 min- and i did it with isaac sitting on my knees, you wanna feel a good burn from a statoinary bike, put a 12 pound weight on your leg! It was funny cause he seemed to really enjoy it! And we got the tred mil and put it together, so that is great, maybe now i can use it! Frank- your a machine dude! And your wife kicks butt! What a great goal she set for herself, and achieving it... wow! And your right the food isnt "nasty" tasting, i was thinking more along the lines of nasty for the body! (rather then the mouth!) Great job on resisting to eat bad for you food! Crackster- two pullups?!!! Wow! The other day my husband and i were standing in the workout room talking and I was hanging on the pull-up bar, then he said "hey why dont you see if you can do a pull-up?" which would have been not funny at all...except that is what i was trying to do!!! it was so pathetic that he couldnt even tell. we had a good laugh at it! Anyways, you are doing GREAT!!!! Sbev- that is quite a challenge! I am going to do it! But it wont be till monday cause today is, well full. and tomorrow i am going to work a shift at my old job for the first time in six months, and 7 hours waitressing with no break is going to be hard enough without being exauhsted from crazy bobs cardio! and sunday is my day off...but monday i will do it! And i will try to get my husband to do it with me! He worked out for an hour this morning- so my guess is he will try it! and i thought that rancho said he was a man in his very first post...but i could be wrong! |

I have some updating to do- add some and some restarts...and i promise i will get to that...but first
I am a bad girl. Icecream last night (super yummy strawberry, shouldnt shop while hungry!) and denny's swiss mushroom burger and fries and choc shake today...so today i have to get a restart. but i made it several days this time, much better then before! oh and we got our new tred mill today- and then my husband informed me that he has to put it together :( i thought i could take it out of the box and start using it before he got home, but i guess not. I am excited to use it. I have a new goal to go with eating clean, it is to work out at least 3 days a week. This will help me eat better too, cause who wants to blow all of that hard work with nasty food?! Franklinmeister- welcome to the group! Now rancho wont have to feel so alone, since he was the only guy before! Dont feel self conscious around are group, we have so many different types of people with so many different goals- we are all here for our own reasons and find support in that! great job sticking with the class, even though it was not what you were expecting! Gmkal- Posting a repsonse is exactly what you were supposed to do! Welcome to the group! Dont worry about needing a restart, really the challenge is only something to help motivate you! Most of us have stumbled and many of us have fallen, but the real challenge is not giving up when you do need to aske for a restart. We are glad to have you join us! Oh and be sure the check in every week, cheat or not, as that is how i know that you are still a part of this challenge! If you forget then I will take you off of the list, when you come back I will gladly add you back on, but not forgetting is best! Sbev- glad your not lost! I worry about everyone! Sinkpea- I guess rules are rules, they say that this is the correct area for us to be in, so we are in it now! It will keep them from emailing me every week! I think that 20 pounds (while you are right and some people may not think that it is a lot) makes a HUGE difference in our bodies! Great job, keep up the good work! |

sbev- alright so you contgradulated me too soon. i mean yeah i rocked- for one day. yesterday i did NOT rock. I was tired, so i took a nap with isaac instead of working out. boo on me. now i am disapointed in myself for not doing it. i am going to work out today though, even if i already messed up the challenge! maybe i will still get three days in, but just not in a row. Yesterday, other then not completing the workout challenge, I did pretty good. Not great, but i had forgotten that we had bunko- so taking that into account i think that i did great! I really didnt eat too much or over-indulge on sweets. So i am one like day three i think, or maybe four. Either way I have almost made it through this week! I need to go to the store and go shopping though...and i need to make a weekly meal plan so that I know what i need to buy and what i need to eat! Well keep up the good work everyone! |
