The Lounge internet site money weight loss challenge--what do you think? Jul 31 2009

ps you don't HAVE to wager money, you can do it with nothing at stake. If you DO wager money, it can either go to a friend you're competing with or a charity of your choice...but again thats only if you do not reach goal.

I have, it works, seriously. It makes you feel good when you reach your goal and if you feel like you havent lost much but STILL meet goal, then you don't feel bad because you're steal sticking to your plan. It also doesn't reward you for going OVER your weekly goal, if you're 160 and you put 1.5 a week to lose and you lose 3, then even though your GOAL weight for week one would be 158.5 and week two would be 157 originally, it will STAY 157, it doesn't mark you at end of week one at 157 then you have to lose 1.5 off of that. It wants to you to maintain the 1.5 you put but if you go extra hard, you can relax a little the next weigh in cause you've already met goal, if you end up losing more, then thats good too! Anyway, so far I've lost 15.2lbs in 4 weeks 4 days. I look forward to Wednsday, thats my weigh in day.

Weight Loss ladies who've lost 100+ lbs, what happened to your cup size? Jul 16 2009

I know this is an old thread, but I just thought I'd throw an FYI out there....Bra's are measure by "waist" the circumference of your body just below your breasts. My bra is 36B, the 36 represents the "inches" around. Some bra manufacturers number their bra's differently and therefore the number does not represent an actual inch but maybe more or less. The letter in your bra size is the CUP size, this is the act breast size. You can lose weight and keep the same cup size and change the band size, which would mean your breasts did not shrink. Some people lose cup size and not band size depending on how their fatty deposits are distributed. Just thought I'd throw that out there :)

I too am a caffeine addict...I actually read something the other day that scared me. Some studies have shown that the use of Caffeine, while keeping you mentally alert, actually slow down your metabolism causing your body to burn less fat. When I was losing weight NOT drinking soda I figured it wouldn't hurt to throw in some diet (no calories, right?) I tended to lose very little weight, I couldn't figure it out. After reading that article, I think it definitely seems like it makes sense.

and unfortunately we can't all be you. People do things others wouldnt all the time. People smoke crack and shoot heroin into their veins every day, of course I can say, I just don't get it, what's the point, if you can just learn to understand your depression/sorrow/hatred and work around it, then you wouldn't have to self medicate...but of course, they feel as though they have an obvious reason to do these drugs. Some people, and dare I say, people like you, would suggest to those same folks that antidepressants could save them from the hell that is drug abuse and addiction....Still a drug, does exactly the same thing for them as the other drugs did...minus the publics disapproval. Since no ones forcing you to take phentermine, what's it matter to you? lol Did you know drugs like phentermine are prescribed to Epileptics so they can maintain normalcy and jobs? They cannot fix a brain disorder naturally, they and a lot of other people would have died off from natural selection had it not been for drugs that help them chemically...through a pill...that they swallow. Same with anything else you take, cure a cold on your own, deal with that migraine, staph infection? hopefully your body can fight it off. It must suck being a hypocrit.

so, I just read the wikipedia article on Methamphetamine: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Methamphetamine

"Since the phenethylamine phentermine is a constitutional isomer of methamphetamine, it has been speculated that it may be effective in treating methamphetamine addiction. Phentermineis a central nervous system stimulant that acts on dopamine and norepinephrine, it has not been reported to cause the same degree of euphoria that is associated with other amphetamines.[citation needed]"

Ok, Maybe I will get flack for this too. but I just got Evomine-X from ebay. It is the herbal version of Phentermine. My niece just started taking Phentermine and already lost 3lbs. However, being that I am an ex meth addict I won't take the Phentermine because it contains amphetamine. I'm hoping the herbal version will work just as well. Its alot cheaper too!

Angel

all "versions" of things that claim to be the same either are the same (phentermine IS an amphetamine, it doesn't contain it, it IS it) or the brand is lying. If it is "herbal" phentermine, most likely, it's not phentermine and it probably doesn't work as good as it either. As I'm sure you already know from the meth, amphetamines cause you to lose interest in food, and keep you moving or obsessed with finishing things that you start, determined if you will. Phentermine is the same way, however, I think that it targets a different portion of your brain than methamphetamine does and it is only habit forming if taking at high dosage for a long period of time. It's possible that you could get geniune phentermine and not have it trigger a relapse, instead of wasting money on something that is most likely a bunch of caffeine and guyanna I suggest you speak with your family care physician.

Original Post by beckyiebeck:

I started taking Phentermine yesterday, my dosage is one pill (37.5mg) a day.  About a hour after i took it, i started feeling really dizzy and like i wanted to blow chunks, but i ate 2 White Cheddar Rice Cakes and it made me feel a lot better, i was a little more energized.  Today i took it and had the same feeling for maybe 3 minutes and that's it.

My problem is that before i started taking it, food consumed me and my every thought.  i don't exercise, i never have energy... it takes an act of congress to get me in the shower.  Yes i am obviously lazy, no energy to do anything.

So my doctor put me on the Phentermine to curb my appetite and give me energy.  Well today is the 2nd day and i've done nothing but think of food ALL day long.  I'm making myself ignore the hungry feeling, but i don't know how to make myself stop thinking of food.  I'm not really energized, maybe a little bit more than normal, but it seemed to work better yesterday.

Maybe it's because it takes a few days or so to get you energized, i have no clue.

I need to lose weight bad, this is my last resort to get me headed in the right direction and it doesn't seem to be doing much.

Youre body gets use to it, like....after drinking coffee everyday it no longer wakes you up like it use to..or atleast, not in the way that you use to feel it. The thoughts of food is an obsessive disorder, that can only be treated by a psychologist. There is a term for it but I can't remember, basically you remember every place you've ever been by what kind of food you ate there. And at work, you can't stop thinking ahead too lunch and what you're going to eat, even though its 8am and you just ate. As for the phentermine suppressing hunger, for me, it makes the hunger pains a little less painful. I still get hungry, it's not supposed to make your appetite none existent, though it has for a few. I just makes it a little easier to say no. In a few days you won't feel those pains anymore because by then, youre stomach will have shrunk....the same way it would if you ate the proper portions without a pill. If you truly want to maintain the weight you need to change how you eat and find out why you're so lethargic. If you don't ass soon as you come off that pill you're going to gain back the little bit you lost...and I say little bit because I'm going to make it clear... if you don't watch what you eat or exercise while on this pill, you're not going to lose very much. People who lost significant amounts of weight usually were eating 5 to 6 thousand calories a day...then cut back to under 2000, that kind of reduction is obviously going to show results. And the pill only works really well for the first month, after that your body builds up a resistance like with any other drug. So, try little things to help get you moving... randomly do jumping jacks, or run in place. Even a little bit of exercise helps.

I have taken it before on two separate occasions.  The first time I managed to lose 50lbs in 6 months.  The second time it didn't work for me.  However, I will not take it again.  Because obviously once I quit taking it I put the weight back on.  It can work really well for losing the weight though, not to mention giving you all kinds of energy.  Nothing like "legal speed".  lol

This is not to offend but this is my FIRST REAL time trying to lose weight and I hear people saying that various diets don;t work because when they stop, such as in your case Phentermine, you gained the weight back. Did this happen because you stopped the medicine or you continued to eat poorly, this causing more weight gain?

It causes you to lose your appetite, you don't get, once you get off it you no longer have that little area in your mind that triggers you to stop eating when you're full...which is why you gained the weight to begin with. If you lose the weight and maintain a HEALTHY lifestyle, quitting the Phentermine will not cause you to gain weight. Not maintaining your habits while on phentermine and eating whatever you want thinking...hey when I was taking that pill I lost weight and I ate this stuff...is what causes you to gain it back. You don't realize how much less you eat, and you dont have to starve, you can eat normal meals, but you're sufficiently satisfied with say...half a sandwhich at lunch and not hungry again until dinner where you eat.....say...Part of a skinless chicken breast and half of your mashed potatos. Most people who stay thin their entire lives eat like this naturally, they have what we can only get by shear force of will or a pill.

Instead of pumping possibly harmful drugs into your system, you can try a natural version to help you out.

I would recomend 2 things:
Garcinia :  This is a flower extract, you take 4 a day before meals and it helps supress your appetite, but not in a harmful way

Ephedra: Natural extract which helps speed up your metabilism. Works even better with caffeine (so coffee or guryana)

Do all you can to avoid pharmaceutical chemicals, plus, these are cheaper.

At the moment, I am taking Garcinia and it does help.

ephedra is almost identical to phentermine, Ephedra is a psuedephedrine, aka, the stuff they cook to make METH...and AMPHETAMINE, it is a KEY ingredient in making it because it is essentually natures crank. Phentermine is also an amphetamine, only Phentermine has never been banned by the US government. In 2004 Ephedra was pulled from the market, it was rereleased in 2008 with strict guidelines...No more than 20mgs per dose (almost a 1/10 less than what was SUPPOSED to be in previous tablets, usually there was even more.). You usually take it before every meal, phentermine is 15/30/37.5mgs and is taken ONCE a day. Don't kid yourself thinking that because it doesn't require an RX that it isn't has harmful or doesn't have as many side effects, cause believe me, I'd rather take phentermine under the supervision of my doctor than to self medicate with ephedra and have no one over seeing my blood pressure or heart rate. I have a sleeping disorder, when I was in high school I'd take in upward of 5 caffeine pills at a time to make it through the day...that's 1000mg's of caffeine, then I would take Stackers that contained Ephedrine/Ephedra. Both made me beyond anxious, and would trigger panic attacks and extreme anxiety. And guess what, Ephedra doesn't make you lose weight unless you're taking so many you can't help but be forced to move...kind of like those Meth commercials, what's that song.... Look at me, busy as a bee, where'd I get all this energy, well I can't sleep and I can't eat but I've got the cleaniest house on the street oooo meth, ewwwwww meth. Phentermine has this side effect for the first two or three days, then it just supresses your appetite but causing your brain to release noreprinephrine which blocks your urge to eat. In the case of Fen-Phen, it was found that Phentermine by itself did not cause the pulmonary hypertension, it was the combination of Phentermine/Fenfluramine. Just like anything in the world, some people are going to have bad side effects....some because they took a product that was recommended that with their health conditions they shouldn't take, they exceeded the dosage, or they had an adverse reaction that does not speak for the majority. Anyway, this rant was about how in aw I was when I read that you suggested Ephedra over Phentermine....lol just too funny.

No pill will really boost your metabolism or build your abs, only exercise will do that but I have taken Ripped Fuel Fat Burner and Definition. The Fat burn did not do anything for me, but the Definition made me feel full, like, REALLY Full. I took two tabs and felt like I'd eaten an entire meal and couldn't eat one more bite. It does give you a bit of energy so if you're sensitive to caffeine or other stimulants I wouldn't take it. If you want to use it with exercise and a proper meal plan I don't think that it would hurt, I recommend the Definition blend though.

THANK YOU! I just said 1100 cause well, I didnt feel like saying 1176, which I seriouslu doubt is going to harm me once maybe twice every two or three weeks. My bad for trying to be as honest as I could be. Also, if you read some of the FAQs on here, it says that yes, a person can have a balanced diet at 1000 calories and if im not going to be doing anything but sleeping all day do I really need to eat 1200 cals? Sleeping burns something like 60 calories an hour. I sleep 12 hours, then make lunch, lay down again and watch tv....anyway i appreciate your post, thank you.

sometimes i get this like a fever in my back where my kidneys are when I eat really high carb foods or if ive been particularly bad with my diet throughout the day. I usually attribute it to my kidneys working harder to clear out my system. like someone said previous, its a food hangover, it just proves that the food that you're eating is rreally that bad. Toxic if you will. try to keep it light and low carb if you have the urge to binge...like salads and chicken, and tuna, youll feel a little better though your body is still going to have to work harder.

i know a lot of people who've had similar experiences. IT's actually a side affect of a lot of birth controls especially if you've been taking them for a long time. When I was on depoprivera, the first three months I had a low flow long lasting menstration....lon it, then when I was off it after my second shot, I didnt get my period for four months. I didnt gain wieght on or off that, but I know I did when I was on the pill, and that made my periods extremely irregular.

listen, i absolutely HATE the taste of "health foods"  you dont need to eat premanufactured, healthy lifetstyle advertised foods. In fact, a lot of them are no where nearly as healthy as the right portions of quality good "REAL" foods. Eggs, lean meats, no sugar added apple sauce, pears in PEAR JUICE not syrup, wheat bread, light mayo tastes like real mayo in a sandwhich with REGULAR mustard, tomatos are great, they have like 5 calories in them. Strawberries are awesome too. I love soy yogurt, it tastes just like regular yogurt though I only eat that cause I'm lactose intolerant. Lactaid fat free milk tasts just like regular 2 %, ole extreme wellness high fiber wraps have 71 calories in them, tastes just like plain tortillas. Salsa has something like 20 calories per tablespoon, and 50/50 jam for people with diabetes is amazing. I love whole grain light thomas' english muffins only 100 cals, and I can't believe it's not butter spray has none. I heat too much food, yet am still under 1500 cals. Today I ate 1397, here is my list of foods:

  Breakfast Ole' Extreme Wellness High Fiber Wraps B+ 45 71 Egg, Scrambled B- 47 100 Beef, Ground, 95% Lean Meat / 5% Fat, Crumbles - Cooked, Pan-browned B 77 149   Lunch Half Sandwhich - Turkey Ham A- 196 198 Campbell's Healthy Request Homestyle B- 283 60   Dinner Whole Sandwhich 2 Ham 1 Turkey 1.5 Mayo B+ 269 334 Silk LIVE! Soy Yogurt Banana Strawberry B+ 170 150   Snacks Special K Bar - Strawberry B+ 23 90 Peeled Mini Carrots - Fresh Vegetables A 113 53 Salad Dressing, Kraft Light Done Right! Ranch Dressing B 75 192

I know some people strive for A's but I'm satisfied with B's, I feel good, and Fed and in three weeks have lost 7 pounds.

The ranch dressing I make is the hidden valley with one cup fat free mayo, half cup light mayo, and one cup lactaid fat free calcium fortified. It tastes perfect with way fewer calories than regular mayo and 2% milk.

blaaaaaaah i wish I had stairs and I wish I had paid lunches. We use to then a few people I work with started taking two hour lunches, or leaving work getting food, eating, then coming back and taking their 30 in office. Now we clock out for lunch if we leave the building which sucks cause I'm barely making 70 hours as it is, and to lose a half each day to walk just isnt going to work. I've been trying to do my own variations of exercises. Moving around till I find something that works my muscles. We get heavy parcels of film each day, about 9 pounds. I walk down the hall throwing it up catching it and dipping into a squat then throwing it up again. When I get time, I stretch, and do jumping jacks to get my heart going. I've tried thesink push ups but they dont work well. I might do the ball thing as a chair. I type 99 percent of the day so I have no real time for resistance bands. I think I might get one of those mini exercise bikes for under the desk but I havent found any reviews or info on whether they work or not.

thanks you guys, these are definitely things Ill look into. I always felt bad, like I shouldnt be feeling like that and that it was my fault or something. My training seemed to look at me like I had to be kidding. I dont like to eat before the gym, but I do eat atleast an hour before. Ive never blacked out for not eating before, just gets hard to breath when my heart rate is up there. This last time I actually had a sorethroat the next day from how tight my throat got. I have nerve problems, my limbs go to sleep really easy, ive had my entire scalp fall asleep and stay numb for days. I have to sleep with my extremeties out and away from my body. If i pull them in at all they go numb. I think maybe it has to do with blood flow like that vasavagal syncope. Thanks again!

It sounds like this woman has her own views and her own ways and unless you do as she does then you're wrong. Some people don't realize that we are.... PEOPLE, individuals needing things that work specifically for us. Sometimes you have to take what a lot of trainers who have that mind set say to you. They live naturally "healthy" lives, and exercise nearly daily. Their jobs ARE to work out and be slim. When you work full time or stay at home taking care of kids, you dont have the luxury of extreme physical activity and time to prepare A+ meals. You gotta do what you can do the best you can do and try every little bit you can until you're able to achieve your goals. At the end of the day its your life, not theirs, don't let someone make you feel bad for being a good mother, and enjoying time with your family. What she said to you was just wrong.

Motivation anyone wanting to go from 140 down to 120? Jul 03 2008

So I'm just joining. I'm 22 and up until a year ago I kept steady at 125 pounds. Then I went from working at ups for 4 hours every morning to doing absolutely nothing at an office job and eating full meals during the day. So a few months ago I topped out at 152 pounds. I've been about the same weight give or take since then. Last week I started on my diet and today I am 145lbs. My goal is atleast 130, though once I'm there 125 shouldnt be so hard. I'm eating less than 1500 calories a day, I just need to hit up the gym. I hate not having a gym partner so you know, if anyones from South New Jersey lol I'm always looking for a partner.

Female

Current Weight 145lbs

I'm weigh in next week though I might be more give or take cause of the forth and we're going away this weekend. I'll try to be good, decent with portions, and relatively healthy. Wish me luck!
