okay.. so, oatmeal is like the best thing ever created. i just loove it. but congratulations,  btw..for the attempts of eating it. so what i do is:

(i dont use milk) for plain oats

  •  add a tbsp of peanut butter (or more if u can afford the cals) to it, then no more sweeteners needed
  • my favorite: oats with diet swiss miss IN it .. to die for (each pack = 25 cals!!) it saves you the milk and sugar cals, and trust me, it is by itself so sweet. (saves my sweet tooth without the guilt..)
  • add fruits and nuts. there are like tons of variety you could choose. or raisins. i love bananas in oats personally.
have fun with oatmeal, hope u like it ^-^

i use the fat-free swiss miss. it's like magic. it tastes so good and so low cal. i throw it in to my morning oatmeal, and sometimes it's good company at night when im doing my homework. it's got loads of calcium and tastes good,i wouldn't really mind a bit of sodium.

i used to not eat (nor like):

  • pineapples
  • oranges
  • grapes
  • spinach
  • pak choi (chinese cabbage)
  • 100 % natural fruit smoothies/juices
  • yogurt
  • PLAIN oatmeal WITHOUT milk nor sugar (i now throw in fruits or nuts)

basically, veggies and fruits.

NOW? i practically live on these things.when i was younger all i ever ate were franks, hotdogs, sausages, PAN-FRIED chicken, beef or pork stew/grills/bbq, cheese, CHOCOLATES, candies.. junk food and FAST FOOD.

well, you get the picture. changing was like hell difficult at first (of course) and now it's like i can't eat food any other way but the healthy way. most of my meat have gone away. i only eat fish and about once a week, skinless chicken. i do let myself with pork, beef, pizza, cakes or chocolates when special [family] occasions call for them. but never everyday. it's funny, a month ago i was like feeding on the burger patties at McDonalds. now just the smell or the sight of those makes me feel all creepy and disgusted. i tell myself, "how on earth did i eat those before?"

it's weird. ^-^

Foods Favorite Things to do with SHRIMP? Sep 24 2007

if you're looking for some sweet shrimp dish, i have one. fry the shrimp in Sprite. (yeah--you heard me right. Sprite, the soft drink.) i know that the sprite may up the cals. but it's the BEST shrimp meal i ever ever had in my life. it's perfect with rice. my mom is the master chef when it comes to the dish. it just tastes so sweet. or when i have some leftover shrimp, i do an omelet with shrimp and sliced onions. or bake the shrimp? aarrrr... im confused now. what, which? anyhow, i like shrimps. how about kebabs? with yummy veggies? that will give you that ol' barbecue-ey feel.

^-^ whichever u choose, i hope u enjoy your shrimp!! and if u discover some recipes please share it with us. ^-^

im eating one right now--hunt's snack packs, fat-free chocolate pudding. buy 'em by fours right? the 1st one i ever ate? i thought it was horrible but then i started throwing it in my oatmeal, with some cookies (but never by itself!!).. i'd gotten used to it and it's a once a week treat for me. helps me get over that needed chocolate fix, too. i dont get bloated though. i think people react differently. oh well, that's just me.

Foods Most filling low-cal snack? Sep 23 2007

well, when i say filling, i mean it--this is filling!! (at least for me, it is ^-^ lol)

hunt's 90 cal snack pack puddings (gotta love caramel and chocolate!! they're fat free too.)

when i get one, i get my choco fix (not that often though) and ONE serving (1 pudding cup) is like,  a looooooot!!

it's better when it's eaten with something else, i guess. what i do is split it in half-- i eat half the cup (eating the whole makes me bloat, it's too much for me) and dip some of the 100cal nabisco chips ahoy or oreo packs in it. believe me, it's so filling.

depending on how much of the pudding you're using, it could well be from 145-190 cals. not that low i guess, but for a snack, it's okay. just dont eat it everyday. great for that sweet tooth fix, too.

i also second the beloved air-popped popcorn. i dont eat a lot of it (which means lower cals) becaus, either:

1. it's filling; or

2. my jaws get tired from chewing it (then i stop eating and i cant eat anything more even if i want to. lol) ^-^

i also love fruits. i think theyre the healthiest of all ive gotta say. apples are sweet and crisp and yummy. 110 cals for large ones. oranges too, around 50 to 60+ cals depending on how big they are. bananas about 70 to 100, and grapes!! 2cals each. that's a saver. well even if theyre mostly a hundred or so calories, theyre really filling. if youre going for real low cal, try veggies. they work. a serving of chop suey with bits of pork is only around 30 cals. imagine. i love it, my favorite veggie dish. (it's asian of course, i come from asia) (=

fruit smoothies, too. i agree on that.

cupidsvictim.. i really wish i could do something about my stresses (yes, i think i agree that this is part stress) but im in nursing school. and i guess u have an idea of how things work at nursing schools. just struggling to keep at least an hour for my exercise daily, just trying to avoid all the fast food around me (im surrounded!!!!) are already big, hard steps. our schedule at school is like hell. now that's one more addition isnt it. phew.

thanks kerir33.. thinking that im 'brave' enough to think about keeping healthy at 18 is one of the few things that makes me keep on my diet and working out. the past few days have just been tough for me. im starting to lose my before so enthusiastic approach to exercise. i hope it'll get better.

yeah, im really tellin myself that i should just "make up" these coming days.. another worry i have is that as much as im psyched and excited about our coming semestral break at my college, which is next month, im also a bit anxious that id get lost with my diet. you know how vacations are. plus my family are like high-cal (for them more food=better health and nutrition) eaters. so when i come home, every meal is a struggle. struggling to keep portion control and on choosing only which foods to eat, which to avoid.. etc.. i have however convinced them that fruits and veggies are great, so that's one point for me, plus my grandpa has heart problems so most of the time fish is served (pork is seldom, beef is rare in our dinner table) which is good. what im troubled of is the SNACKS. people at my home--they just cant stop eating. and sometimes if i show more concern for my diet than for their feelings, i become rude to them.. and i dont like that to happen.. i dont like to hurt their feelings BUT i also dont want to gain all that ive lost..

arrgghh. all these thoughts and worries are filling my head up. im confused and puzzled and there are so many things i dont know what else to do. well, i know what to do, i am just not sure i could pull them off. im feeling hopeless. ='(

Motivation Inspiration? Sep 16 2007
07:33 (UTC)

okay, so im only 18 and it may seem that im too young to look out for my health and do calorie counting and stuff. (at least that's what other people might think) but i love doing it. it makes me feel that im actually doing something for myself. my mom's side of the family has histories of heart disease, and my dad has a generation of diabetes.. so this are factors, but not necessarily my inspirations. my motivation? i just want it to be that one day, when im old enough, when i get married with my special someone, that i see myself healthy and fit. i want to enjoy my life--the struggles i may be having as early as now could bring great enjoyment of my life in the future.

prevention and promotion of good health is better than cure! (=

also, im a nursing student. you cant imagine what diseases we are taught at school everyday, added on by the occasional side remarks of my professors, like most of these are acquired from the food the we eat.. ..high cholesterol levels can contribute to this disease.. ..that disease..... lack of minerals and vitamins could cause this.... our lifestyle today can bring about... symptoms which could be seen not now but in the future--when the conditions are grave.... et cetera, et cetera..

i just realized one day that, hey, i wanna be healthy. i dont wanna die young. and i think that was it. oh, and i really cant picture myself having my kids, us playing in the park with me big as a hippo. i wanna be attractive until i age up. i think, though superficial, that physical appearance still attributes to the wellness of every relationship. so i started reading a lot about the connections of food and health, plus exercise and lifestyle ways.. and i took a complete life turn. im now on a zero fastfood, zero soda, zero junk food diet. and that's sort of tough considering my age group, a lot of friends dont understand it, and stores seem to be promoting unhealthy food over healthy choices. phew. but hey, so what?? i am gonna be healthy. there are ways.. and that's a promise.

^-^ so cheers to all calorie counters--here's to a better, healthier future!!

you're not weird..i think it's the conditioning that all of us (me too!!) acquired from the CC diet, exercise, and all that.. plus reading all the forums in here. don't worry, i myself haven't eaten any meat (not even chicken) for about two weeks now!! and if u haven't posted this thread, i wouldn't even realize that ive been avoiding--no, im not avoiding,.. because i'm totally thinking of eating and meat just never comes into my mind at all!! i think it has become part of the lifestyle change or a habit or something. it's a good thing, i think. just don't forget to eat your daily proteins.. Foods breakfast... Sep 04 2007

high fiber food are really good in the AM. i love whole wheat bread for my breakfast, they're good for the body and low in cals and keeps me full so if ever i grow in need for a snack, the snacks are usually just light food, sometimes i even feel full until it's time for lunch.

for added fullness and for protein, i usually make a sandwich out of these and slop in white (or any type of your choice) beans, tuna, or peanut butter. nice, nice breakfast there. keeps u going throughout the day. (=

having a good breakfast always brightens me up and puts me in a better mood than when i skip breakfast. (which i don't do anymore, of course!) ^_^

Foods What did YOU eat today? Sep 04 2007
15:37 (UTC)
3,038

breakfast: about 70 grams of beans sandwiched in two slices of whole wheat bread. (yummy!! high in fiber and protein.. kept me full until t'was time for brunch)

brunch/snack: same with breakfast

lunch: 100 grams of 50%less fat, 50% less salt tuna sandwiched with my favorite whole wheat bread

dinner: peanut butter (chunky style) sandwich!!

snacks (1 more in the afternoon and another in the evening): pretty much the same, sandwiches with different fillings..

today was just less than 1200cals!! yay!! and i feel so energetic at school and did good workout tonight, too. maybe because those cals are packed with whatever that i need. i just love my proteins and my whole grains!! i practically live on them. tomorrow i'll stick to two sandwiches and switch to an oatmeal breakfast and tofu sometime later i guess, for variety and moderation.. (= love this thread!!

Fitness Do you workout in the AM or PM? Sep 03 2007
14:47 (UTC)
12

since college, i started to take my workouts at night, at about 7pm or so so, after having rested from my day at school. it works for me .. (though it's kind of a conflict when i get tired after the exercising and have a hard time in studying my lessons.. but after some regularity i think my body coped up and i started to feel less tired after workout, as long as i stick to exercising at the same time of the day everyday..) but semestral vacation (from where i come from..) is coming in more than a month's time, so then, when i go home to my family, i think (i've been thinking about it a lot actually..haha..) that i'll devote myself to waking up early to do jogging and whatever exercise in the AM so that i could do more things and get to spend time with the family afterwards through the day. (=

either times, i think, would always work as long as you stick to the task and side it with faithful dieting.. ^_^

Calorie Count what time does the burn meter reset Aug 29 2007
13:40 (UTC)
hi, i think the numbers shown on the burn meter are the calories youve burned on the particular time that you checked. for example you look at the burn meter at 2pm and it says youve burned 900 calories.. so it's like the burn meter changes (going up) as the day goes on.. for 24 hours . i think.
