One of my best friends is 4" taller than her husband. She wore 3" heels at their wedding. They are comfortable with it, and they are very much in love. They have a family life that most people would be envious of. If they ever were self-conscience of their height difference, you'd never know it. |

| Motivation | SMART GOALS - Setting yourself up for success! | Jan 01 2009 16:52 (UTC) |

Greetings! jella, I really like your plan for setting goals, and I can think of a few goals to set, but I can't think of any rewards. My first goal will be to pack a healthy, well balanced lunch each day so that I'm not eating at restaurants all the time. I'll set my goal for the month of January, since most of my activities are based on a monthly schedule. When I do pack a lunch, I always have a yogurt, and I use a plastic spoon. I think I'll save the spoon each day, and if I have at least 25 spoons at the end of the month I will feel I've deserved my reward (if I figure out what it shall be). My second goal is to keep to a regular exercise routine. I tend to overdo it, then when I'm sore, I get discouraged and give it up. I'm going to keep a chart and limit my exercise to what is balanced, then stay with it! This one is going to be difficult for me, but I know its very important. If I acheive 20+ days this month, I will be fairly happy with that. Now I just need to think of a reward...any ideas? |

| Calorie Count | Burn Meter WAY too high, what's up with that? | Dec 05 2008 15:52 (UTC) |
|
geminipeace & iletitshine; I understand what you are saying, however, I literally logged all 24 hours of my activity, and the total of that log was exactly what my burn meter read at the end of the day. Therefore, CC's burn meter did not add any calories to that amount. When a person logs an activity, the amount of burn from that activity replaces an hour of the usual burn, it doesn't add the entire calorie burn from the activity to the total. In example, if your burn before activity is 1800, then you do an activity that burns 300 calories, it will not add 300 to 1800. It will replace about 75 calories with 300 calories. Thus making your total burn up to about 2025, not 2100. Check it out. Write down your current burn and divide that amout by 24 to get your average hourly burn, then add an hour of activity that you know the hourly burn of. Subtract the amount you calculated for average hourly burn from the hourly burn for the activity. This amount is approximately what will be added to your burm meter, not the full burn for the activity. Now check your burn meter for the results. |

trhawley, Yes, I set my activity level to sedentary before I logged all my activities for the day. However, I had my activity level at moderate before. I thought that description suited my lifestyle pretty closely. That was my issue. I was keeping what I thought to be a 1000 cal deficit, based on moderate activity, and I lost weight at a little over 2 lbs per week. Then, I quit losing anything. I've been sitting at the same weight for 6 weeks. I have logged in my activities for all 24 hours on several days, and each time, it tells me I burn somewhere between 3500-3900 calories. That just seems unreal to me. Any ideas? |

Lost 140 lbs from Oct 06 thru Nov 07. Then quit exercising and watching my calories (basically went back to my old lifestyle). I gained back 30 lbs from Nov 07 thru the middle of August 08. Now I'm back and have lost the 30 I gained back, and this time I'm very determined to shed the rest of the 70 and stay there. |

I was so thrilled to get on my scale this morning! 211.8 down from 216 last Friday. I finally started exercising every morning in hopes to break down the plateau I was on, and it worked. auntmin, it's nice to see you're still with us! Hope you had a nice vacation. I wonder what happened to tanyamoniq? |

Thank you, I've been adding it in. I'm glad I finally asked and got an answer, so I can get the right burn count. No wonder I wasn't losing like I thought I should be. |

wyogirl, I'm here. I thought everyone was gone, too. I was at 216 last Friday, only down 1lb since last Friday. I seem to be on a plateau for several weeks now, so I've been a bit discouraged, but I'm going to try to stay here. Hope you do too! And I hope some of the others are too, but I have a feeling we might be the only ones left. |

Hello! I weighed in at 212.8 friday morning. Had a bad food day though. Some friends came over for dinner and we had pizza, apple pie and ice cream. None of which I was able to resist, not to mention I got absolutely no exercise all day. I was able to get back to my healthy foods today though, so I'm trying to keep reminding myself that just one bad food day isn't going to kill my diet, but oh boy did that pizza and apple pie taste good! |

Auntmin, I personally can't see how a different zip code could make a difference (unless you walked there One of my daughters was in a similar situation. She had always maintained a very healthy weight until she started dating. He lived 110 miles from here, and when they got together they ate out alot. She gained about 20 lbs. A few months ago, he moved here, and they still eat out alot, and she is still gaining weight. Now, they eat together more than before, and she has tried to shed the lbs, but is not being successful. I would strongly suggest that you get the eating sprees under control before he moves, or it could be much more difficult after he moves. I sure do hope you have a stronger resolve than my daughter does (you probably do--she has never had to worry about about her weight before, and doesn't really understand how difficult it can be to get rid of it). I hope this isn't discouraging to you, but I wanted to share it with you so you don't fall into the same situation that she did. I would hate to see that happen to you. Recognizing that it could be a problem may help you to avoid the problem in the first place. Best wishes. |

So glad to see that you two are still here, wyogirl and lauraclarkcosta! I've had a bad week. I thought I was doing well, I stayed within my calorie deficit, I did everything just the way I've been doing for the last two months, but I am up one lb. this week to 215.2. I don't get it. I've been steadily gaining ounces all week. I sure hope this trend doesn't continue, but I don't know what I'm doing wrong. Well, I sure hope the rest of you had a better week than I did. |

This is the first thread I've been a part of, and I don't understand what moving it will mean. Will I have to do something different to continue following it? Is anyone else still here? It's been a long time since anyone has posted a comment. I'm feeling a little deserted. Hello? |

Good morning ladies! Well, it was good until I got on the scale. I wasn't very happy to see 214.2 this morning, that's up 0.2 from last week. I've been having a very high-sodium week, so I hope this is water weight. My daughter is trying to start using CC, so I'm very excited about that. She needs to lose about 40 lbs, but she has a hard time giving up her favorite foods. She's 16 and works at McDonalds-bad combo. Anyway, I was wondering if she could join us? It might help her get motivated. Thanks. Hope you all had a successful week! |

214.0 this morning. I am so glad we've decided to "start over" once again! This thread has been so encouraging to me, when our first 6 weeks was over, I felt like I was going to lose a friend. Let's give it our best everyone! Congratulations tanyamoniq! Yay! Sorry to hear about your work stress auntmin. I hope things get better soon. When will you know if you'll continue with Wells Fargo? I hope you can find another way to handle the stress. Maybe someone on this thread has some good ideas about stress management that auntmin could consider? Venting to my husband is what works for me. |

Please count me in for another 6 weeks! I have been so motivated since you started this thread, and I'd hate to lose the momentum! I really appreciate all the hard work you've done tanyamoniq! I'm feeling so much better now that I'm losing weight again, especially because I feel like I am really going to stick with it this time...I hope all of you do too! Thanks to all of you!! |

Hi! I got back from Colorado and was so worried about how I had eaten while there, (we ate out alot) but I guess all the packing and moving my daughter's house more than made up for the calories! Yay. I weighed in at 218.2!!! So, I'm down 4.2 since last week. tanyamoniq, you have no idea how much I appreciate you starting this thread. Every day for the last 6 weeks, I could hardly wait to check to see if there were any new posts, and I am really going to miss the encouragement and seeing how everyone has progressed. Are you sure you don't want to go another 6 weeks?

Well, I would love to blame it on a broken scale, but I'm at my daughter's in Colorado, and her scale says the same as mine did last friday- 222.4. I should be glad I haven't gained, since all this eating-out is wreaking havac on my diet, but I've heard that a person weighs less at higher altitudes, and I'm about 2000+ feet higher than at home, so maybe I did gain. I hope it's not true, but I'm afraid it is. Any of you know about that? WAY TO GO tricia1012!!! (Can I borrow YOUR scale?!) lol |

Sounds like you had a wonderful, fun-filled weekend, auntin! Too bad about the food consumption, but hey, you have the rest of the week to make up for some of it, right? Pesonally, I wouldn't even look at the scale until Friday, after you've had time to even it out. I'm on my way to Colorado, and the first morning in a motel, I should have stayed away from the continental breakfast. I'm still hungry, and I've already had almost 600 calories! Anyway, I wish you the best over the weekend, auntmin, and since you've been doing so well with your weight loss so far, I bet one or two weekends is not going to set you back too far! |

Good Morning! I hope everyone had a good week! I did. Stayed within my 1000 cal/day deficit and got lots of exercise. Okay, maybe I should say some exercise, but it's alot more than I usually get. I even had a small piece of pizza last night and didn't go over my calorie goal because of the exercise. Yum! Anyway, I'm pretty happy with my loss this week: Last Friday: 224.4 This morning: 222.4 2 more lbs. Yay! I am going on vacation for about 10 days, so I might not be able to weigh in next Friday. If I do, it might be scary since I seldom eat right on vacations. But I've done so well these last three weeks, I'm going to make a really big effort to stick with it. I can hardly wait to see how well all of you have done!!! |

THANK YOU, tanyamoniq, for calculating not only the ongoing progress, but also the weekly stats! This forum has been so encouraging to me! I've been able to stay with my diet since we began, and I'm starting to notice it in how I feel. Last night I went for a bike ride with my daughter and her boyfreind, and even though they had to wait for me quite a bit, I was pretty happy with how I did. I live on a hill, making it fun and easy to get started, however, no matter where I ride to, I have to come back up the hill to get back home. I normally have to walk my bike up most of the hill, but last night I rode nearly 2/3 of the way up! When I got back home and logged in the exercise, I had a larger deficit than I wanted, but just couldn't eat. (I'll make up for it today with no problem! So, how have the rest of you been doing? |

Systemdrop- NO KIDDING! I have one of those suv's: Costs over $90.oo to fill, and it's nowhere near as fun to drive as my Harley. If only my bike could haul as much as my suv does, I'd be in 'HOG' heaven! |

I'm a Harley girl, too. Used to have a Goldwing 1100 back in late 70's early 80's. Took it everywhere. (Except in winter-we have harsh winters here) I had to give it up after I got married and had children. Every spring when I saw others enjoying their bikes, I would really miss my bike. Last spring I got a Harley, my husband has a Suzuki. We haven't been able to take any long road trips, but it's sure nice to be able to ride again!!

Yay! I made up for my very small loss last week, and dropped 3 lbs this week! Down from 227.4 to 224.4. I'm so excited about finally getting going on my diet again!! I'm really starting to feel like I'm going to reach my goal this time. Some friends invited us over for bbq tonight, and I actually passed up the chips and soda. I was so proud of myself. My friends are very supportive, too, they had very lean ground round and lots of fresh veggies. What a wonderful day I had! I hope all of you have a good day too! |

I am absolutely loving the way you are calculating the loss percentages (kept me in 1st place) However, tanyamoniq, I was wondering if you might give us a weekly loss percentage, so we could see how we did each of the six weeks. I realize it would mean more work for you, but it might be nice to see who did the best for each week. For example, since last weeks weigh-in (if my math is correct): tricia1012 1.83% 1st mkculs 1.40% 2nd lauraclarkcosta 1.34% 3rd auntmin 0.82% 4th wannabe_thinagain 0.36% 5th lizalea 0.26% 6th kthompson 0.22% 7th ...etc. (This is where I got tired of calculating.) Anyway, I thought it was awsome that tricia1012 did the best this week, even though she was only 14th last week, and 4th overall. Way to go tricia1012!!! Not to mention lauraclarkcosta (12th last week, 9th overall, 3rd for this week); kthompson (10th last week, 10th overall, 7th for this week); and wannabe_thinagain (not on the list last week, 17th overall, 5th for this week) Well, I don't know if anyone else finds this interesting, but I did.
