| Weight Loss | How much weight (percentage) loss until I lose double chin? | Apr 09 2008 04:58 (UTC) |

| With my own weight loss, and seeing pictures of others on here, I've noticed that many people lose weight in the face or neck first. This is often what people comment on when you see before and after pics as being the biggest change.
I guess my point is that your double chin might be gone sooner than you think! Also think about cutting back on sodium and alcohol to lose some of the chin puffiness. Works for me! |

| oh, yikes. it sounds to me like you really don't want to lose the weight again, and you gave some great reasons for not wanting to(exhausted, unhealthy, etc.) You probably shouldn't diet back down to 105 to fit in the clothes. Your mom also has legitimate concerns about spending a lot of money on new clothes with other big expenses coming up. Also she sounds like she is trying to be supportive the best way she knows how, which at this point is telling you she is fine with whatever you do with your weight, like not saying anything when you dieted down to an unhealthy weight, but also being happy that you gained some back. if she isn't going to take a stand even when you endanger your own health... i don't even know. Would it be possible for you to pick up a job so that you can fund new clothes yourself? Even if it's just a few hours a week hostessing or in retail or something. or try tutoring kids in your area if you're particularly good at a subject. that would allow you to set your own hours and still make money to buy some new things for your new, healthier body. |

| yeah, cereal is a good way to go here. For about a dollar more per box than crispix or whatever, get kashi. I like Go Lean (not the crunch, just the regular). Slightly sweet and has 10g of fiber per 140 cal cup, which is crazy. Other than that start stealing fruit from your dining halls. Nnot stealing, really, but if there's a take 1 home policy on fruit make sure you take a couple) Bananas and apples and pears are all pretty high fiber. And definately look into canned black beans. You can mix them with salsa, and they're pretty tasty. | |||
| Weight Loss | lots of skin vs. skinny-fat | Feb 03 2008 15:49 (UTC) |
|
| hey,
if by "lots of skin", you mean loose skin. that is usually caused by rapid or significant weight loss. This would be something like losing 100+ lbs, or having a baby. skinny fat is kind of a weird term that means that you have visceral fat built up around your organs, but little subcutaneous (under the skin, the kind you can see visually) fat, hence you look skinny, but have fat built up inside. it could also mean that you are thin but have little muscle, so a high body fat percentage. you mentioned in another post that you played tennis, which requires a pretty healthy amount of muscle, and excercise is the best way to lose and/or never gain visceral fat. so unless you recently lost 100lbs, i'm guessing you are fine, and neither of these things. |

| haley,
wow, you look like you lost a ton of weight! you look much thinner in the after pictures. however, while i was fishing aroud for the pictures, it said in your journal you had eaten less than 800 calories? for a 1600 calorie deficit? this seems extreme and i'm worried that you wont be able to sustain your current weightloss at these levels. |

| or, if you're in to something warm, make some veggie soup. Actually, you could probably add some meat cause a lot of soups/stews end up really low cal/volume because of all the water.
or you could roast up a mess of veggies. you can sautee something like a pound of spinach for 80 cal. |

| Weight Loss | does BODY WRAP really take off INCHES??? | Oct 25 2007 17:29 (UTC) |

| Never tried one, but I think they basically just dehydrate you a little. So sure you'll lose inches. For about a day. A more permanent (and cost effective) way to lose a little retained water is lowering your sodium intake. | |||

| There are some higher cal options that are not treat-type things. Eat an apple with a couple tablespoons of peanut butter, or an ounce of (real) cheese. Add some avocado to sandwiches for a healthy way to up the calories and good fat. This also works if you were into mayo and have eliminated it from your daily diet because the creaminess of the avocado can sort of imitate that, but only if you buy ripe ones. Also incorporating some milk into your day is a good thing because it's also a decent source of protein and calcium. | |||

| Just curious if anyone has had this experience... I use binges almost to punish myself. If something goes wrong and I percieve it to be my fault (whether or not that's at all rational), I'll binge and be thinking the whole time that I deserve it. Like last night due to a whole messed-up set of circumstances I ended up coming home and eating half a jar of pb. | |||

| Trying to get away from that habit, although on weekends I have to budget for alcohol at night (totally unhealthy, I know) To try to wean myself off of the night time snacking I've taken to having a cup of chai tea. Just black, no milk and not that syrup crap they serve in a certain chain coffee store which will remain namless. Anyway the chai brewed from regular tea bags is spicy and sweet, and I find that a largish mug of it can take care of my cravings at night. | |||
