Weight Loss Not enough... Jan 03 2008

Instead of that diet soda and tea, what about a low sodium V8?  There's 0 fat, 70 calories, lot's of potassium and 3 grams of protein.  At least you'll be getting veggies.  True there are fats that are good for you (in moderation), avocado, nuts, lean meats, coconut, soy, etc, those can help. Yummy avocado slice on your sandwich.    I am taking a good multi vitamin as well, since I know that I am never going to get all the nutrients I need from the foods I eat. Vitamin C supp, extra calcium, etc.  It sounds like you are eating all the right foods, just add a few tweaks!  Throw in green beans and broccoli with that pasta.  Those are excellent and oh so good for you.

I am curious as to what foods you are eating that you can eat all day and still be 600 calories under.  Everything I put in my mouth has more calories than I think it should!

So share that secret would ya!Laughing  If you're just munching on veggies all day, I could see that, but not if you're eating a balanced meal. Take today's food log and tell us what you've had.  I am very curious.....

Weight Loss HELP!!! What do you say to people who don't want you to lose weight? Jan 01 2008

I never tell people I'm dieting, just that I'm trying to eat differently to feel better.  I get a lot of resistance too.  AND if you fall off the wagon after all that diet talk (which you will at some time) then you've got people saying "Is that piece of pizza part of your diet?" knowing full well it isn't.  I get that at work from the guys.  Fortunately I'm not very sensitive, so it doesn't bother me, but I know it could be devastating to a lot of people.  I work with a great crew, but they all like food.  And keep in mind that people are going to get defensive because they know they're not making the right choices about what they're eating. They'll want to turn the attention on you and your "lame dieting"  So just put your earplugs in, eat what you want, decline what you don't.  If their feelings get hurt because you want to better yourself, then something is really wrong with them.  I have mentioned trying Alli and I get an earful from people that have never read one word on the product. They insist on telling my how bad it is and what the side effects are.  They don't care that I have read every article, been to the website and blogged about it right here!  They are just nay sayers.  Buck up. As you lose the weight, they'll start asking you what you did to look so good and you can tell them: you avoided all of their crap food!

Christmas is all about family and friends and being together.  Oh I agree.  But my husband got me an Urban Rebounder and that just rocks!  This is a man I want to throttle more times than I can count, but FOR ONCE- Hooray-he listened.  He actually got me EVERYTHING on my list.  I wrote it out just to give him something to chose from so he wouldn't wander around freaking out.  He bought everything I wrote down and even came up with a few goodies on his own!!  There were things I had pointed out just in passing and more.  I was very proud of him (for paying attention and beating the shopping crowds!).  I was very poor growing up, yet my mom made every attempt to put packages under the tree just for the excitement.   So it's always exciting to me, even now as an adult, to get up Christmas morning and see tons of packages under the tree.  Sometimes we'll take a super small token gift and wrap it up in a giant box just for the effect.  We are by no means rich and sometimes live check to check, but I just love that once a year passing of  the gifts and seeing the kids faces.  Then we hang out all day and play with all of our new toys.
Fitness Ordered a Needak Platinum Rebounder! YAY!!! Merry Christmas ME! Jan 01 2008

Have you already ordered the rebounder?  I have the Urban Rebounder and it's less expensive.  It is really sturdy and looks good. It does fold, but I just move it out of the way.  Ebay (just today) had one for 95.00 with free shipping and that comes with the three videos on one cd.  I love this thing.  You can go for half an hour just pouring sweat, but because it's so low impact, you won't ever feel like you need to stop.  Get some good shoes thought because you will feel it in your feet the first week or so as all the blood circulates.  Very funny feeling.  So if you haven't bought the Nedak, check out another brand.  There's no need to spend that much.

Just yesterday I purchased a pack of those Water Sensations, flavor packs, but they're in liquid form.  I've used the powder but those turn the water weird colors and can be clumpy.  The liqud did not add color and it was soooo good.  I had grape, thinking of cool-aid from my youth.  It was great.  No calories, no carbs.

Weight Loss I WANT those CHIPS!!! Dec 01 2007

Yes, gum works.  Can't snack with gum in your mouth.  Then pop loud bubbles to be annoying, that way you'll get smug satisfaction while he stuffs his face with lard. You don't want those chips.

Take a few bites then give the rest to your husband/kids/dog.  It's all about portion control.  If someone gave you that same icecream (and I order from Schwan's, so I know how good those are) in a dixie cup, would you go back for 8 refills?  No, your brain would be satisfied.  And since your having this on a full stomach, it's not a matter of hunger and needing it to "fill" up.  So don't be stingy!! Share.  When I gave up french fries, I told my husband "Don't let me order fries!!" I threatened him with bodily harm if I slipped up.  He was my fast food watch dog.  Then one day I couldn't take it anymore so I snatched 5 or so off his tray and he made a big fuss.  I told him if he didn't let me eat the five fries in peace, I would go order two large ones and eat them all then take it out on him. This made no sense at all, but he let me have my way.  I ate my five fries and was perfectly content.

That reminds me.  Chipotle has the burrito bowl.  I haven't done the calculation on that yet, but I'm sure with some will power while having them "build it" for you, it could turn out to be a winner.  I'll get back on that one.

Motivation A Self Control Challenge Nov 28 2007

Last night I opened a snack bag of peanut butter pretzels and took out two.  I put the rest in a zip lock and put them away.  I got up two more times and took two more.  Then I just said screw it and finished off the bag.  I think sometimes I get the attitude that I'm an adult and I'll eat whatever I want. Well, it's that attitude that got me here.  We all have problems with self control.  If not buying the foods is the only way you can avoid eating them, then so be it.  It doesn't make us weak, it will just make us skinny!  Save the self control issues for bigger stuff like not blowing your paycheck on thirty pairs of shoes (we've all done that, right?)  I actually had to tell my husband to stash my vodka, as I was getting into the habit of having one mixed drink every night just to unwind.  Then I saw how many calories there were in vodka and freaked out.  So I had him stash it and only allow myself one or two on the weekends.  My mom can't buy ice cream or she'll eat the whole tub.  She says that is her weakness.  Now I have tons of other junk food in the house that I won't touch as it's not what I crave.  Foods that your crave regularly should be left at the store.  When you want to indulge, get up and go buy it.  Don't torture yourself by keeping the almonds there.  Not buying them in the first place shows self control.  FYI:  I am a cashew junkie :)

Foods TRIGGER scents!----weird! Nov 28 2007

I walked through my son's school lunch room and felt like I had slipped back in time.  Not just "oh I remember school lunches" but "Holy cow - Chipped beef over mashed potatoes!" sniff sniff, burritos & scrambled eggs.  I had visions of elementary school, then flashes of middle school and my first kiss.  It was so crazy.  I hadn't stepped into a lunchroom since my own school days so it had been quite a while.  Things I'm sure I haven't thought of since they actually happened 15 years ago just came flooding back so vividly.  I have a blush brush that has this perfume scent. I close my eyes and see a highschool boyfriend.  If we can do all that from a few smells, imagine what it would be like to be hypnotized and remember it.
Motivation headaches from lack of sugar!!! Nov 28 2007
23:20 (UTC)

It is both the lack of sugar and the caffeine that are causing the headaches.  I used the fast acting glucose tablets when I felt the shakes and headache coming on.  Not to be used all the time, but when the symptoms were pretty bad.  I still keep some on hand just in case.  Oh, and I'd pop a plain aspirin (500mg), not Excedrin as it has caffeine.

Fitness Exercise and Child care trouble. Nov 28 2007

Shamefully, most of us only turn to vitamins when we get sick rather than take them as a preventative measure.  I have a 5 year old and he'd get the same sickies from daycare.  It's unavoidable, however, I was lectured over and over by my own mother and now invest a good amount of money into quality vitamins for him.  He's the world's pickiest eater and eats like a bird anyway, so it's not as if kids can really consume the amount of nutrients their active bodies need to fight off the world's germs.  Most chewables are worthless, look for a good whole food vitamin (search the internet for WHOLE FOOD VITAMINS and invest some time there). Spend the extra money for the better product and give them to your child at breakfast time every single day.  It's worth it so your child stays healthy and you can stay at the gym!  (Browsing through the reply posts):  So many people think exposure to the germs will help in the long run and I'm sure there is some truth to that, but why would you want your child to get sick over and over so that he may finally "not get sick" ?  Spend the money, build his immune system through nutrients and save yourself and child the misery.  This doesn't mean your child will never get ill, but common sense says you're doing what should be done to prevent as many illnesses as possible and not leaving the door wide open for germs to attack your child.  Just like you wouldn't let him run around in the rain without a shirt.  Hope this helps.  Your local grocer will have a natural food isle where the whole food vitamins can easily be obtained.  They are gentle on the tummy :)
