| this reminds me of an article i read that said a study showed that there was no definitive proof that losing large amounts of weight actually made a person healthier/live longer.

| Waves hi to our new members! Just here for a quick lunch break. Will add you to the group as soon as I have a chance to update! Jump right in & chat :)
Whew! Busy week for me. Did 20 pullups in the pool today and can do 20 wall pushups now! On my way to 30 by Thanksgiving. Who has a good idea for hamburger instead of spaghetti, meat loaf or stew. We put the bbq away and i'm already feeling burnt out on winter foods. I definitely need to explore new recipes and healthy versions! |

| welcome to our new members! I'll work on updating later this week when I have a minute.
Molly, i have always disliked brussell sprouts b/c they are bitter sometimes, but you made them sound delicious. think i'll try them again. it's hard when dh's away, huh? extra (((hugs))) for you! and no, i would not mix Christmas and the scales together. If you were going to weigh like monthly, consider weighing 4 or 5 days after totm starts. it's usually about the lowest weight of the whole month after the pms weight comes back off. destiny ~ consider setting up a range... most days you shoot for 1,800 cals which will keep you losing but some days when special events happen or you have a bad case of the munchies or??? then consider eating "maintenance" calories = the cals you burn for the day (the top # on your burn meter after you log in extra exercise for the day). We have to have limits but, it's not reasonable to expect to eat 200 cals from this afternoon until breakfast, so don't fret. Have a decent dinner, a snack tonight and then shoot for 1800 tomorrow. you CAN do this! Hang in! Biggest ~ so glad you didn't get sick. whew! was wondering if the eliptical has any impact on knees? (((dolled))) hang in. prioritize your days and work. sometimes you can't rewrite and rework as much as we'd like too. it's important to cover the work, take good notes, review and be sure to get sleep before tests so your brain has a chance to set the memories. thinking of u, i hope your sadness lifts soon. |

Jansa, Dolled ~ Hang in with school/classes! It sure puts a pinch on taking care of yourselves, eh? Thinking of you BiggestLoser! Hang in! I hope you didn't get a cold or flu afterall! Molly, Sorry about the bittersweet sorrow of parting with your furbaby! So glad you found a wonderful home for it :) Doll, it really takes awhile to grieve and hits at the most unexpected moments, so hang in. Count ~ glad you're on your feet. Keep pushing through! Your positive affirmations really helped me tonight. I really have to push away the negative thoughts and focus on how this will make my life better. It's really hard sometimes when the urge to quit strikes and it struck me silly this weekend. Meh! Sab & all u pushup gals! I did 20 pullups in the pool on Fri & i'm up to 15 wall pushups on land at least 3 times a day and pushing towards 20 this week! Woot! Tanyamoniq ~ I swear I have to turn off the tv sometimes. Food must be 1/2 the commercials or more! They drive me insane, especially when i'm having a snack attack! And we got coupons for like 6 Pizza Joints on Tues! Finally pulled them out of the garbage and used one last night. Next week I'm shredding the suckers! Singing ~ Enjoy England! Woot!! btw, i so know what you mean about it being hard not to be angry at the scales ~ lol ~ i glared at mine as it moved upward bound today! Again! I swear, it's very existance is in jeopardy ;) Iwantorun ~ wanna climb back on that wagon with me? i really need to get back on the wagon too. starting again tomorrow (Mon) morning with my oatmeal & blueberries :) tough week ahead for me, it's late and i'm shy for time. so will try to post again soon. ttyl ~ goldie :) |

| A Favorite Product! Santa Barbara Roasted Garlic Salsa (found it at Albertsons/Savon). 10 cals for 2 tbs, but only 40 mg of sodium per serving!!! Woot!!!
doing the Salsa Happy Dance! Love it in egg white scrambles, on LaTortillaFactory.com wraps, on veggies, mixed with fat free sour cream to use as a dip for fresh veggies, as a spread instead of catchup or mayo in sandwiches!!! |

| mollymouser ~ yes, i think our taste buds do change! I hated green bell peppers when I was a kid. Finally decided to try the yellow, orange and red peppers when I roasted meat, and they made the yummiest perk to the flavor of the broth (along with sliced onion, carrot & celery the foundation of many french sauces, called something like miror poix? (sp?) So, I started adding them to soup, and then grilling them with onions for my egg white scrambles... and this week, I finally overcame my aversion and tried a green pepper. It was good! shockerific eyeball popping surprise!!! my new best friend ~ cuz green are cheaper than the pretty other colors. why is that? discrimination i tell ya! -giggles | |||

| Hey :) Sounds like some of us are feeling a little discouraged! It's hard.... but it's important to keep trying! No one's perfect, so don't beat yourself up. Just get back on track & keep trying! It's easier once you push through the 1st week or 2 and get on a roll! Wow! Some people are dropping lbs like 52 card pick up! Woot!!! I'm a go slow kinda gal! I don't know what it is, but when I try to go fast, I kind of wig out and want to quit. So, I'm taking it more slow. My deficits are running 1/2 a lb to a lb a week. So some weeks i don't lose a thing, and then I'll have a "woosh" week and lose 2 or more!!! I'm sooooooo ready for another woosh week ~ lol Hang in everyone! It really helps to read all your comments. I'm excited with Molly getting a treadmill ~ maybe she'll use it to burn off some energy ;) So happy to see Count-it back and back on track, totally understand humorpam's frustration at the slow go! & Doll's erk with the scales ~ lol ~ i'm just glad everyone's here. It makes me feel like I'm not alone! however you run the race ~ it's important to do it! 1 step at a time! whew. i think i'm going to make it through this day. Just had Molly's pumpkin dessert & yum...... i used a tbs of honey. it wasn't quite as sweet as pie, but i can learn to live with it. i also added skim milk and an eggwhite to simulate pie filling ~ lol ~ was that bad of me? I could live on this stuff! am going to have to watch for the Holiday sales on pumpkin and stock in a few cans. i think i have a new fav to rav dessert! |

| Sab ~ Happy Thanksgiving btw to our Canadian friends ;) How'd your day go?
I was drooling reading about Dolled's day! She did so very well ~ and really inspired me to think about how I will handle it! Dolled's ona (sp?) is so cute to put a candle in her pie! And! I can't wait for ours. Before, I always stuffed myself and that was it, I was off track for a long time.... This year, I think I will have a nice spoonful of whatever I want, nicely rounded but not heaped. No seconds and up to 2 pieces of desserts (i will probably sample a bunch = to 2 pieces). And I don't think I'll count calories that day but will limit myself on 1sts instead of 2nd, 3rds & 5ths! I used to eat as much as I could and then would crash and feel sick. I really want to enjoy the food, but more importantly, I think I'd like to enjoy the day with the family too! (instead of feeling miserable!) |

Woot!!! 2 more lbs and I'll have 20 off.... zippin my lips! pushups challenge.... anyone up for one? i'm up for a pushups challenge. I think I will work towards 3 sets of 10 wall pushups a day until Thanksgiving! And then re-evaluate.beginners strength exercises ~ be sure to modify or even check out water exercises or chair exercises if regular exercise is too much. I started by walking with a cane and could only do 3 mins a day, but now I can do an hour of water aerobics and laps after! I just now started adding the pullups in sept, and am up to 10! So start where you are and do what you can! |

| Hi everyone! Having a bad day, climbing the wall, want to overeat from stress. Bah! Super busy at work and on the run, but wanted to pop in.... Erin ~ WTG! Down 10 & 5 this week! Woot! How fun!!! Don't fret if next week is slower & your body takes a break! Remember the joy from this week ;) Sab ~ will get your new goals updated! Woot! Looking Good! Jelly! Down 30 lbs???? that's fab! Have you thought about getting your picture taken holding 3 ten lb bags of potatos??? I hope to have them piled high at my feet when I'm done having my last pics taken!!! Are you doing anything to celebrate? Sick ~ welcome! So glad you're joining us. I also quit smoking last year and it was farking hellacious! Doc told me I had diabetes and to lose weight and quit smoking. Yeah right! :::snort::: like that was ever going to happen!!! NOT! I had been trying to do both for a long time. So when I asked him which I should do 1st, he said quitting smoking was the best and fastest way to improve my health, and then lose weight. Ok, that I could wrap my brain around. that gave me permission to focus on 1, conquer it and if I needed to, to let the other one take a back burner. There were times where I barely was able to stay quit smoking and would give in and over-eat. Most days I could do both..... But push come to shove, if it was a choice, i didn't smoke. When it finally got easier, then I was able to put the same stubborn effort into figuring out how to quit over-eating..... and finally now that that is under control, I'm finally working on losing weight. What am I trying to say? just do your best each day, stay with it, and practice will get you there. don't give up! you really CAN do this! and you won't die from trying! Blue! dang glad 2 c u back here! Missed you! I always have mental hangovers and sadness when we lose someone.... i hope that your grief lifts soon & that you are left with warm, happy memories! Humor ~ glad you came back. Try not to get frustrated! Just start again today...... I can't tell you how many times I went up and back down the same 10 - 20 lbs in the last 2 years since I started trying. In fact, I weighed the very same 1/1/2006 and 1/1/2007 and then gained 17 more. Gah!!! I could have cried. But.... but not trying is worse. Not trying will make everything worse emotionally, we'll keep growing bigger, and it will seem even harder..... We all have to start where we are. Get up today and try to make each meal and snack the healthiest, best, most nutritious choices you can make.... and if you have a bad day, don't beat yourself up.... just get back here and keep trying! (((hugs))) Molly & Big ~ tried that pumpkin dessert! yum!!! I think its a fab idea to share gr8 healthy recipes! Variety & spice keeps me from gagging on same o, same o! Jansa ~ you're posts make me tired just reading about the pre-election shennanigans! Glad it passed! Looking forward 2 having you back :) {{{tanya}}} ~ hands tanya kleenix ~ Keeping this mind-set is hard! I find I need to actively choose to do things to motivate me like watch the biggest loser, come here and chat, log my food. But sometimes, i've just cried from the frustration, fatigue, the pain of pushing through when it gets hard.... and boy does this get hard. But you CAN transform your life!!! maybe not as fast as the people on the Biggest loser who have people right there pushing them.... but hopefully we can all keep each other encouraged and transforming our lives together here! moogie ~ u make me wanna hop up & do push ups with you!!! lol ~ well maybe i'll do wall pushups instead. If I got down on the floor, I'd never get back up! ~ waves to Ang, Rena, Count, Dolled, friends :) i can't imagine doing this alone! this group will thrive if we stick together & chat here :) I really hope we can really overcome these problems and our obstacles for real this time. together :) |

I "used to" couldn't wait for the halloween candy to come out, then Christmas candy, valentines, then Easter! Always had extra from after holiday sales!!! and would actually be sad when Easter was over b/c no special candy until Halloween! :::sighs4chocolate::: Ok, I need a strategy! blessed, i've added you as a friend, if you don't mind? there's also journals and setting up your page (be sure to check the box so search engines can't search it or journals if you're private kind of gal)... and friends can also talk and leave each other comments in their jourals. I don't do mine very often, but it's a place to do really more personal issues. i started early in 2006 and it was really hard until i found people online to talk to. Even family understand but don't always. I think sometimes they are more likely to tell you what they think than listen to what is frustrating to us. My mom does that all the time. Love her dearly but we don't always get past her trying to get me to do things her way ;) well, i suppose that's because she's a mom ~ lol ~ i don't mean to sound frustrated. sometimes it just really helps to have friends! |

| Hi Blessed :) Welcome! We posted at the same time, so I'll go add you to our group! I've found the same thing. Most people in my life are probably willing to briefly talk about diet or the latest fad/new idea, but most people aren't really willing to talk about the issues that I'm trying to cope with and push through to really change. I need more. I need to chat with people who really understand what it's like to not be able to shop in regular stores, or feel like we have so much to lose it's just easier to have a cookie and diet later! So, hopefully, we can keep everyone encouraged and trying!!! |

| Wow Biggestloserfan! Welcome! You've almost lost 100 lbs! Are you excited? I remember when I almost lost 30 lbs, I could taste it and then crash! I quit and gained most of it back :( Can I ask you? How do you push through the urge to quit?
Jelly ~ I hope your next week goes better! It's too easy to quit during a bad week. Hang in!!! Molly ~ I love the snack packs too! Especially the new little Quaker Mini Rice Cakes Cheese flavor for 90 cals. I could live off those so I limit myself to 1 a day or I'd eat nothing but chips, cookies & cheese! lol Being part of this group ~ means a lot to me and helps me feel like I'm not alone. Especially on tough days. I really look foward to hearing from everyone :) |

| alldolledup ~ i'm not sure it's good to cut below the recommendation (based on your age, weight, activity level) but I do think it's a gr8 idea to eat more on the days you exercise!
I kind of have an aversion to exercise. I've always hated it and hated gym class. I'd rather read a good book! So, I actually have chocolate scheduled in as a treat for the days I exercise. Works pretty well for me ;) long story short... the point of exercise is for health reasons and it also increases metabolism, lifts the spirit and burns extra calories, so don't eat all your exercise calories, but if you are losing too fast or burning off too many calories because of extra exercise, then eat more. I'm not sure why you are asking? Are you plateauing because of woman's water fluctuations? Or because? What do you think is going on? I know my first response is to cut calories to kick start weight loss, but it's not my best strategy, and when I cut calories too severely, then I get hungry and want to over-eat.... and do too often killing my diet :( |

| Ajj ~ How's it going? Have been wondering how you're feeling? Bigmommah ~ feeling better yet, or should I leave more chicken soup warming on the stove for ya? Congrats to all our "losers" ~ happy4u :) Corisa ~ do you get to go to the game??? Fall always means football around here. Never seem to break away to an actual game though! I'm still weighing everyday, but I'm never sure when to count the loss because my weight fluctuates wildly all the time like a bouncing ping pong ball. My lowest weight is day 4 or 5 after ttom starts, so I think I'll use the Thursday weight after it starts as my weight for this group..... I've actually been working on this "lifestyle" thing for a long time and I used to get super upset if I saw my weight go up.... until I had tracked it for maybe 4 or 6 months, probably more like 6 or 9 months before I realized the daily fluctuations weren't making me upset anymore.... because, if I trust in what I'm doing will work, and I'm actually doing what I need to do without overeating.... then the little fluctuations are just changes in water weight related to hormones and that pesky ladies cycle, or normal plateaus.... and if I keep doing what I should, then the water comes back off.... and the scale drops like it's supposed to (b4 i kill it!!! ;) I think watching the scale for actual weight loss can be terribly disheartening if you let it drive your emotions. It's why I've been known to hide them for long periods of time. But, have worked hard to move away from being obsessed about little fluctuations in weight or little variances in calorie-counting. Really, weighing myself and counting calories is a tool and a way to measure progress, but so is a tape measure. So is how much further I can walk, or even the fact that I can walk without a cane now!!! I used to barely make it 3 minutes and now I can do water aerobics for an hour and swim laps afterwards!!! So, I think there are many ways to measure progress. And I think that if something is making you feel obsessessed or upset, then it's probably a good idea to step back and weigh less often? Try to focus on things you can easily make a goal ~ like
