yea. I mean, I studied statistics in graduate school...you don't see me flingin' descriptive stats, bell curve info, and other jargon around.

chill out...maybe you need to eat some comfort carbs, a pint of ice cream, a 6 pack of beer or whatever else it is you can't control yourself with because you'd rather take it out of others.

p.s: I'm a psychologist...so why don't you make this online therapy a bit more productive and talk about your mother or your failed relationships, shall we?

are you sure you are counting the right portion size- your menu seems like much more than the calories you claim...closer to 2000 in my book. Not to play devil's advocate or anything- but that is a lot of food.

i, too want to be dowm 10lbs by thanksgiving. I think that seeing my family for the first time in a long time- and wanting to look good for them is a great goal to have.

That and they will really be able to tell if there has been change since its been so long since we've seen each other- so I'm on with you!

10 lbs in 8 weeks is so doable- especially with a friend!

hey...it sounds....bland. But if you want motivation to lose 5-10 lbs over the next month, I am also 160 (5'8") and am looking to lose as well. We could try eating less and being healthy and use this diet as a guideline and keep one another motivated and focused? Sound good?

if you want to be strong and do more than one push up, say maybe even run a mile in under 20 mins and not pass out, then you will need to eat more.

But you are 14!! (where are your parents, by the way???)

Enjoy yourself and get fit and strong. This is an important time for your devlopment.

Take care of yourself.

Weight Loss How to stop counting calories? Sep 15 2007

I think2 workouts a day are great!.

It allows you to push yourself harder for a shorter distance twice a day, which could mean more mileage = more calories burned. I often workout twice a day (11 times a week actually) and it's awesome. Over training is an issue, but it takes serious, intense workouts and months of time to get there. Try 2 a days 2 o 3 days a week. I love it!

And as far as am and pm workouts go. I dont like to eat a lot after my pm workouts just because its close to bed...other than that- no difference. A great way to get to bed too!!

i'm an athlete too and have been training for a 1/2 marathon this week, so i know how important getting enough energy for workouts is....I also sympathize with counting calories, etc..

I would say flucuate your calories. If you have a hard workout that day (a 5 mile run or more) eat more calories from smart energy sorces like whole grain carbs or fruit and protien. On the other hand, if you only have a 45 min lift or something, maybe a little less would be ok.

And you shouldn't feel super hungry so drink plenty of h20 and if your body says "feed me" do it.  Maybe go up to 1500 for a week or so and see how that feels

Foods any good veggies to munch on...? Sep 14 2007

broccoli is awesome (if it doesn't make you too gassy) or it can be steamed.

I also like sauteed mushrooms and onions.

kidney beans are yummy with some salt.

baked wedges of potatoe

tomatoe sllice with salt and pepper to taste or simply cherry tomatoes...

or just go to your local farmers market and see what's in season.

try a new veggie each week for variety.

easy enough. hope that helps

Fitness lower abs?? Sep 13 2007

ACTUALLY...i know quite a few lower ab exercises.

I've been an athlete for over 15 years now and here are the basic lower ab exercises:

1) legs straight...just cruch. But make sure that your lower back has pressure on the floor. This is called a pelvic tilt- it will help engage the lower abs.

2) straight leg raises. Both legs together. Lower back into floor again (pelvic tilt) and raise legs 6 inches off floor, then 10 inches, then 12". Hold each for 30 seconds to a minute or more.

3) flutter kicks. Just like straight leg raises, but alternating legs while kicking.

these are great to start with and you will feel the burn!

good luck

Fitness AB exercises hurt!!! how often do you do them? Sep 10 2007
18:43 (UTC)
1

hey, good for you! they should hurt- a bit anyways.

Try to start at a reasonable place, like 10-15 mins 2 or 3 times a week. On your off days, make sure you do some cardio, at least 30 mins so you can see those abs once you get them strong. Also, when you do ab work, make sure to work in a back exercise or two. Strong abs come with a strong back, like a counterbalance, it should help ease the pain too. (you can look for easy lower back exercises to do at home with no equipment online...easy and effective stuff)

But, keep at it, and just use variety. It will hurt at first, but it will go away when you build strength- I promise. The adaption of the human body is always amazing to experience...enjoy the journey!

Recipes Lighter alternative pumpkin desserts? Sep 06 2007

don't know if you'll like these ideas but, I too love pumpkin and here is what I've done in the pat:

all using pumpkin puree (canned) which isn;t bad for you at all:

1) add a bit to my oatmeal with pumpkin pie spice seasoning on top and sweeten with splenda and maybe walnuts if you wanted..

2) add some to a vanilla protein shake (I make smoothies alot and its a great flavor)

3) add some to whole wheat or buckwheat pancakes...instead of oil. It works great and has that subtle flavor of pumpkin I love

be sure to add a dash of the pumpkin pie spice to these dished, it helps a lot and smells divine.

also, and soft pumpkin cookie can be altered to be slightly better for you than the original, just bake some for others and keep a few for yourself. perfect!

Weight Loss I am at my goal...now what? Sep 02 2007

just curious, how long did it take you to reach your goal and how many lbs was it?

I just started and my goal is about 15 lbs. I'm eating around 1500 cals a day (I'm also very active) so its well under my recommended 2600 per day. Using the tools on the web-site makes it surprisingly easy to stay motivated and be honest with what I'm eating.

Anyhow, congrats! and I hope this plan will work for me too
