I'm here.  Last weekend I was up to around 206, also taking in to mind I have not been watching what I eat, added to TTOM ...

this morning I'm in at 200.6, and I know a lot of it is fluid but I feel so much better!  My hands aren't tingly in the mornings and my rings aren't tight!

So I am with you.  I've only got a couple of pounds to go to get back to my previous record low, and then onward to my goal!

QUESTION OF THE DAY -- THURSDAY JULY 10

Do you count/log things like condiments? Mints? Gum? Low calorie beverages?

MOLLY

I don't log mints or gum, and usually not even low-cal beverages ... the exception is if, at the end of the day, I realize I've consumed a half-gallon of Crystal Light, that is 40 calories so I'll log that as a single entry.

Oh, Molly, your response to the Death Valley comment matches mine about the "dry heat" (which we do not have here in East Texas.)

I know humidity is horrible, lived with it all my life, but I've still never understood the dry heat comment ... so my pat response to:

"Well it's a dry heat." is:

"yeah, so is the inside of an oven but I wouldn't want to live there either!"

I don't know if this is the RIGHT way to do it. But this is what I am trying

I have a problem knowing when I am ACTUALLY hungry (I am a "bored eater")

SO, before I eat anything I have started drinking about 8 oz of water and waiting for a few minutes. Most of the time the water will fill me up a little and give me a few minutes to debate of if I really want to eat the extra calories.

I am also thinking about picking up some sugar free gum

Anyone have any thoughts on that?

water helps me immensely.  i read a study some years ago that showed a pretty significant percentage of "hunger" feelings are actually thirst.  so water first is always a great idea.    i've found that if I drink a bottle of water and wait 15 or 20 minutes to see if the water curbs the hunger, my desire for whatever is was just goes away.  and i think most of the time i wasn't even really hungry.  but usually in 15 minutes i've found something else to do and then i just forget about wanting to snack out of boredom.

FOUR DAYS!

FOUR DAYS!

FOUR DAYS!

My husband proudly reported yesterday that he'd killed his first CAMEL SPIDER. Let me just say, "AAAAUUUUGGGH!" Apparently, they CHASE YOU so that they can "rest in your shade." (I would have a heart attack if chased by a giant, creepy sand spider!)

MOLLY

You know, back when the war first began and our troops were deployed over there, many emails about those things were circulating all around, I've received quite a few in years past as "forwards" and always wondered how real they were?  I mean, I know it is a real species but you always think ... was this photoshopped even a little ... maybe just enhanced? Now I have to say I am very disturbed at seeing those things with an ADULT HUMAN as a point of reference for their size.  Creepy. Nightmare creepy.   I'm not usually scared of spiders, but UGH.  I would have to rethink my position if I was over there.  SO glad he's coming home in FOUR DAYS!!

QUESTION OF THE DAY -- MONDAY JULY 7

What (if anything) do you like to grill/barbecue?

MOLLY

Grill - everything!! seriously  ... meat, veggies ... it's all good.

Barbecue - very limited things and only when I'm in the mood.  To me "barbecue" involves barbecue sauce, which is good on cheap cuts of beef, okay on pork and chicken, and way too strong for everything else.

OKAY!

We've all made it past the holiday weekend and I gather from some of the June posts that summer hasn't been faring exactly great for all of us ...

but I'm with sdmerrill, I know that being away from here and being lax with my WHOLE attitude about caring for myself is what has set me back.

I've got to care about myself and be aware every day; which foods I choose, how much I eat, getting out my chair (which I have been doing okay there, been walking 30-40 minutes every day), and being more diligent with logging my foods.

Susan and I are back on the accountability trail and will be here for weigh-in on Friday ... all are welcome back to join us and continue on our paths to better health and smaller tushies!!  :)

QUESTION OF THE DAY -- FOURTH OF JULY!

Do you eat hot dogs?

Do you eat apple pie?

(And do you like baseball?)

MOLLY

Not hotdogs but occasionally an italian sausage or a brat.  But didn't on July 4 this year.    The kids are out of town, so we didn't cook out or do fireworks or anything.  We did go see WALL*E, though.  Very cute movie, enjoyed it.

Not the biggest fan of apple pie, actually I never have really eaten pie too much.  Which is weird because I love cobbler (which is basically pie with the crust layered in ...), but again, not apple.  Blackberry.  I'd be all about some blackberry pie.  Mmmmmm.

I like baseball if I'm at the park watching it live.  Not on TV so much.  Actually, all sports are better live and in person.  :)

Oh MOLLY I'm SO HAPPY for you and Ron!  And I'm proud of you for getting to (and past) that 100 pounds.  That is an amazing accomplishment but comes as no surprise to me at all!  Sounds like you had a nice vacation, too.  The Gracie story made me smile.  They think they are SO put-upon.  MY cats would think they were on vacation at Club Med if they got to come to your house!!

We were all so upset over Ron's clothes!  Over the stolen underwear of a man we don't even really know in real life!  But he's your guy, and you're our girl ... and we love you so we love him, too.  And now ... pah, skivvies, who cares? He's coming home!!

Prayers for him (and you) until he steps off that plane.

Does Better than Peanut Butter taste like peanut butter.  I can change if it does, but if not, I hate to spend the money on something I don't like.  What is it anyway?

to me it is very peanutty, but somewhat sweeter than some regular peanut butters, and the texture is a bit heavier.  If you are used to eating "pure" peanut butter (peanuts and salt, no sweeteners) it may be too sweet for your taste.  The glory of it is that it has only 100 calories for a 2-TBSP serving (as opposed to 190) and only 2g of fat per serving.  and no saturated or trans-fats.  oh, and it does have to be refrigerated after opening.

a regular PB sandwich is 2 slices of regular bread (150-ish calories) plus a serving of PB (190 calories) = 340.  Mine is 2 slices light wheat bread (80) plus the BetterN'PB (100) = 180.

it's much easier to set aside 180 calories for a treat than 340.

sujihime,

i am late to the posts this week, so i'm not sure what all you have had checked for a headache that won't go away ... but how is your blood pressure? be sure to have it checked ... my first husband at age 36 had a headache that didn't go away for 9 days ... we thought it was nerve-related, too.

went to the doc, and his BP was 181/128, I can't believe he didn't have a stroke from it.

on ANOTHER topic, I am hooked on Better'N'Peanut Butter.  I had completely cut PB out of my diet because I hated to spend 200 calories on just a couple of bites, but now I can get my occasional fix.

Lite whole grain bread, 2 tbs of BNP (100 calories), and a tablespoon of yummy sage honey that I bought in Fresno.  DELICIOSO!!!

In your wildest dreams, what sort of diet would you like to see (assuming you could actually eat healthy and lose weight doing it? This is a fantasy question, so have some fun!

The seafood and pasta with creamy-white-heart-attack-sauce diet.  Mmmmm.

QUESTION OF THE DAY: FRIDAY JUN 20

Name five foods that are a current "staple" of your healthy eating plan.

1. Tomatoes (from my patio)

2. Fiber One

3. cottage cheese (because I never get tired of it)

4. chicken breast

5. Tropical flavor sugar free popsicles

Molly - that is very encouraging - at least the possibility of a stateside gig for your DH!!  I will keep all my fingers and toes crossed.

What a fun shopping and sightseeing day I had with you - you are a wonderful host and tour guide!!  This morning I had my cereal with the unsweetened vanilla Almond Breeze and it was awesome!  I think I'm going to email the Trader Joe's people and BEG them to open a store in my area!

okay folks, one of the really notable things about Trader Joe's is that you don't have to look for the "organic produce" section ... it is all organic, and for the same prices as what regular produce costs in my grocery store (organic is marked WAY up in my hometown.  Plus, I was able to get unsweetened vanilla Almond Breeze there.  In my store at home, you can find about 3 boxes of the regular, way down on the bottom shelf ... no flavored, no unsweetened)

We did Whole Foods, too, and my tree-huggie, back-packy, organic-food-coop-y friend Jen was right ... it is a place that strikes awe into the hearts (and pocketbooks) of pilgrims searching for unbelievable variety of fresh ... everything!!  It was a VERY fun shopping day with Molly!!

WHOOOOO!!

stayed away for two weeks but this morning was so worth it!  I finally broke the 200 pound mark! (not by much, it's 199.8) but I don't care.

A number appeared on the scale and it DIDN'T start with a "2"!  YAYYYY!!

So that's something around 4 or 5 pounds in the past 2 weeks.  I have to believe it's the exercise making the difference.

there has to be some variable that was not included in the report. i simply cannot believe that a restaurant chain would (or could) mislabel a dish's calorie and fat content by HALF and there not be something more to it. and this was some tv station. i might buy into it a bit more if there was some real scientific evidence.
Weight Loss Do you think I could lose weight fast if I ate only fruits, vegetables, and chicken? May 22 2008

at a healthy rate of weight loss, 10 pounds takes about 5 or 6 weeks, BUT, if you are newly embarking on a healthier eating plan, then you may initially lose a couple pounds of water weight, and it usually comes off pretty quickly.  this usually happens because when people decide to eat healthier, they start drinking more water and they tend to cut out a lot of pre-packaged foods, which greatly reduces their sodium intake.  so I would say yes, at first you might experience a little "burst" of water-weight loss, but real fat loss comes at a slower pace.

why would you cut out bread completely (unless it triggers binges for you) - just limit your intake and eat whole grain (REAL whole grain) if possible.  I mean, don't have 3 sandwiches a day, but a piece of bread or a whole-grain english muffin for breakfast is not going to hinder your weight loss effort.

remember though, you do not need to deprive yourself of nutrition while your body is healing.  you need your body to have the tools required to rebuild you.

I know "So I've got that going for me, which is nice" is from Caddyshack, when Bill Murray and Chevy Chase are in Bill's "house", and Bill is just talking and talking and Chevy is just trying to get his ball back and play through ...

That is a funny FUNNY movie.

Actually, it's when he's got a guy pinned up against the wall and is telling him how he caddied for the Dalai Lama and when he asked him for a tip afterward, he was promised "total consciousness" on his deathbed, and then he says "So, I got that goin' for me.... which is nice."

Yes, I'm a geek. :P

oh, you're totally right ... the part in his house was the only thing I could think of where he's going on and on, sort of stream of consciousness, but that part is about where he's breeding that new grass for the golf course (among other uses.)

okay, back on topic - sorry for the thread hijack!!

Wowza Molly!!  You should be so proud of your accomplishment!

[[[[[BIG HUGS!!]]]]]

Can you even really remember what it was like 9 months ago?  What I mean is, I've only lost 25 pounds and already that "before" life is fading.  For example, I KNOW that my foot would often go to sleep if I crossed my legs for very long, and that I didn't sleep well, and that I would wake up with my hands and arms numb, and that 10 minutes of exercise wiped me out ... but I don't really remember what that was like.

Now my husband and I walk 30 minutes EVERY day, and next week we will up it to 45, then up to an hour.  The days when two or three trips out to the yard or to the garage made me need to sit down and rest seems EONS ago, even though it was only about 6 months.

Is that how it is for anyone else?  The "old" you seems more like something you saw in a movie or read about, not like it was really you?

QUESTION OF THE DAY: MAY 22

What's one so-called "diet food" that you really detest/dislike/avoid/hate?

MOLLY

I am very open to light/low-fat/diet options in many things and have been for a long time.  My "yuck" factor is fairly new:

I love light/fat-free yogurt, but these new "dessert-style" creations, the ones that are chocolate (I think it is Yoplait and they have purple labels ... chocolate mousse, chocolate mint, creamy latte) ... tried them, threw them out.  Nobody in my house would eat them, even the dog.  It was like putting a spoonful of drain cleaner in my mouth, all I could taste was chemicals.

Ah well, the Key Lime Pie flavor has served me well for many years, I guess I should stick with it!

NEW QUESTION DU JOUR . . .

What's one tip/suggestion you have for encouraging yourself to DRINK MORE WATER? (What works for you? What are you going to try?)

Laughing

One of the nice things about our move to east Texas is our tap water is very good here!  I do okay with my water at work because I keep it at my desk and that's pretty much where I stay most of the day ... my new trick at home is to keep a smaller glass (8 or 10 oz) with ice in the freezer, and every time I pass the kitchen (which is on my way to the garage, the laundry room, the den and the bookshelves) to pop in, fill it with water, drink it down, and put the glass back in the freezer.  I may even put a little tally sheet on the front of the fridge to "keep score."  My thinking is that I may actually manage to get more water into my body 8 oz at a time than I would trying to lug around a big jug or bottle at home.

We shall see how it works out!
