Hi

I have the skinny leg gene as well and I hate it!!  I found the only way to make them bigger is with weight training!  It's actually started working along with eating about 2700 each day.

You could think of it this way - whether you eat it or not its going to waste - if you overeat its going to waste in the way of fat so you might as well just leave it!

Weight Gain Wasting calories? Aug 22 2008

Thanks for all the replies :D

I've started eating more for breakfast and I'm going to try and plan my day out a bit so I'm not left with way too many calories by dinner time.

Hopefully I'll stop caring so much where the calories come from but I'm definitely going to make sure I get in the amount I need each day!

Health & Support does eating snacks every 2-3 hours throughout the day help to ward off a binge? Aug 14 2008

Hi not sure if this will help you at all but I thought I'd just let you know anyway.  After getting interested and reading a lot of forums about bodybuilding I was curious to what it would feel like eating extremely low carbs for a day.  I didn't think I'd be able to do it at all but it actually made me have no cravings at all.. like even though I'm trying to put on weight sometimes when I'm just sitting at home I'll be bored and just feel like eating something but when I tried this I had no urge to eat at all.  Those few days I tried it all I ate was meat (chicken, turkey, beef, sausages etc), cheese, nuts and vegetables.  It was high protein and quite high fat.  There was hardly any sugar either and I think that might have been what caused me to have no cravings, no urge to eat when I wasn't hungry.  Maybe try having a day with no sugar (including fruit) and just see how you feel.  I know fruit is healthy and good for you but trying it for a day or two wouldn't do any harm.  I know that for me if I had breakfast and then 2 hours later I had a snack of yoghurt and fruit I wouldn't be satisfied and would probably be wanting to eat again soon after.

Anyway sorry about the massive long paragraph .. which you may not understand coz i kind of rambled on and on.. lol.. just thought it might give you something else to try =] Good luck!

I've read a lot of opinions from a bodybuilding site and a lot of the people there seem to go with that (40/20/20) and say you need about 1g/lb of bodyweight.. not sure but they seem to have good results.

Do you know how the chicken was cooked? Was it breaded etc?? All you can do is find something similar.. but should it even matter if you're trying to gain weight?  Thats a good step eating something you dont know the calories of!! I know its hard though coz I'm trying to do the same thing but I'm always so curious haha

I found that doing heavy weights - arms, legs etc helps a LOT.. for me anyway.  I think its because the extra calories are being used to build/help the other muscles..

This is the EXACT problem I have!! I'm 5"7/8 and weigh 107-110.  My highest weight was 123 and thats when I started 'eating healthy' which actually wasn't at all! Now I'm trying to put on weight..mainly muscle hopefully..but I realised I'm actually trying not to at the same time.  I do the same as you - one day I'll eat more (2500) then the next day even if I eat well (by well I mean quite a lot ) throughout the day, I seem to find a way to make my dinner really low in calories so that I end up with around 1800 for the day. I'm very active..sports training everyday, weights, running, working etc and even when I had about a week of eating 2500 everyday I still didn't put on anything so I don't know why I'm scared of eating that much now.  I weigh myself everyday and even though I tell myself I want to gain weight I've found that I'm quite pleased when I haven't..I know this is bad though.

I'm not sure what we can do to stop ourselves from doing this .. someone said something in another thread about how eating out more often might help because you won't know for sure how many calories are in what you eat.  I also tried to not count anything and just ate when I was actually hungry but ended up adding it all in my head at the end of the day and was much less than I should have been getting.  Maybe another thing to try for you would be not to eat so much on the days when you realise you need to gain weight so that you don't feel the need to drop the next days calories so much eg. maybe try to eat 2800 -3000 EVERY day.. instead of up to 6000.

Anyway, sorry I don't have a proper solution for you..but I hope it helps knowing that others are in a similar position as you =]

Thanks everyone!! I'm gonna try and ignore the scale for a bit while I start eating more and try not to worry about where the weight goes until I'm at a healthier weight.. haha probably easier said than done!!

Thanks so much for the replies everyone!

Cookk - I'll try doing some weights like that.. I've been doing 3 sets of 8 and sometimes 10, 8, then increasing the weight and doing as many as possible - usually 4/6.

Caloriecountingme - I realised I had been undereating a few months ago but for the last 3 months have been eating about 2500 calories a day which has helped me to gradually put on a bit of weight.

Melkor - Thanks for explaining that!  I'm gonna try it :D  It was what I was thinking of doing but wasn't sure since I really dont want to lose any muscle!
