| The Lounge | Look too young for my age | Oct 02 2008 20:28 (UTC) |

I'm 23 and people still ask me what grade I am. I can't help but look at them weird and wish to say something rude back. I know how hard it is and it does hurt. Also changing my looks is not something I want to do either. I'm comfortable with the hair I have and don't want anything complicated to take care of. Also it's not always easy to find clothes when you're average height but thin. Funny thing, when I was wide, people still thought I was just a kid. So putting on weight doesn't always help on changing those looks. You said your face is small and you're short. Weight gain may not help, in return, might end up making you look even younger if your face rounds up a bit. I haven't seen your picture, so I can't tell for sure. Telling people your real age when they AssUMe, could be the best attack you got back on them to hit them back in their tracks with their own emberassment over their wrong accusations. When people ask me what grade I am in, I tell them I graduated from college last spring (which is true). It's funny seeing how long it takes them to take in what I just said since they weren't expecting that answer. Did you ever have a hard time getting a kid to beleive you are older than him/her? Now that was something. It's frustrating at times when people look down at you, but other times, I find it funny when they can't tell I been an adult for quite a while. In the mean time, might as well take adventage of people's assumptions and use it to get free stuff or free candy during halloween. Hey, I may be an adult, but I still enjoy some kids events. We got to enjoy things while we still can. |

Swimming to avoid sinking, sounds like you'll get more out of it. Anyways, are you allowed to walk with that knee of yours? Jogging or running is too intense for an injury as you already found out. If you are allowed to walk, you could try slowly walking 1/3rd of your running distance. As your knee feels better, you could increase the distance and speed and eventually move into a jog. Don't push your self if you are not ready. Ask your doctor if that will be all right. It'll be weeks before you'll be able to increase much on the speed, but healing comes first. Don't be too afraid of going a bit out of shape. Once you're healed, you'll be able to jump back on to that wagon and get back in shape much more faster than it took you to originally. I suffered a few injuries as well, but from a 2 vehicle head on collision. I'm 4 weeks down the road on healing and not yet on my full workout. I'm increasing as my body lets me know it's ready to. I actually found the fact that I started to exercise slowly (with the doctor's permission and suggestions on what I could do), my healing was fast and noticeable day to day. My muscles are reforming quite fast and I can feel how they're becoming firm in just under a week of adding back a workout. Tell your doctor on what type of workouts you want to get back on or try and hear what suggestions you'll get. Pushing yourself will set you back quite a bit. As for food, aim more for proteins in dairy, fish, and meats. Those will help the muscles around the knee heal faster. You'll need carbs as well to keep your blood from becoming acidic and to fuel the muscles that are working and healing. You may even tone down the muscles by lowering the weights and increasing the reps if you are planning to continue with weight lifting. The body requires more calories in order to heal. You might not notice it yet, or perhaps you have, but healing is draining. Good luck and I wish you a quick recovery. |

Tell me about it. I'm the type that has working out as a great part of my life. If I don't do my work outs in the morning, I'll feel like crap all day. Been doing cardio, stretches, calisthenics and weight lifting for over a year already. About a week in a half ago, got into a car accident. The day after was a rest day anyways, but I wanted to get back in to working out as soon as possble. My body and head has been a mess from the accident. Nothing broken except for the cartlidge between the ribs and my nose, but those things got to heal on there own in 6 weeks. My right side of the face been stitched up which will heal up in 3 weeks from the swelling and bruising. Right after the accident, moving my body has been draining on its own and really painful. I went to the doctor and asked for permission to begin at least walking in the mornings to buiild up my work out. I got the permission and he told me to only do 1/3rd of the distance and let my body set the pace. Also, I wasn't allowed to walk with out company for that first week. I had my mom join me. That first time walking was slow and painful, though not really satisfying. It was only a 3km walk, my mom says 4 and I felt like I got nothing from it. Took over an hour to walk it because of my injuries, but still felt short and unsatisfying. The accident happened a week and a half ago, and I'm technically suppose to be resting and taking it easy. I'm power walking now, but not close to my original distance or speed and I can't jog yet or weight lift till my chest is healed up. I slowly been incoperated my stretches back in, well, half my stretches and only half the sets and got my leg lifts back in, even though it goes slowly, I have my original reps for it. Injuries suck, but we got to do what our bodies want us to do in order to get back into our every day lives as soon as possible. As long as you listen to it, you'll heal fast. As for eating, my appetite been messed up as well. First barely been eating from the lack of appetite and mouth being to swollen to open much, but I did eat or might as well say, snacked often. Fruits mostly and would chop them up into tiny strips so I could eat them. Took a long time to eat and needed help cutting them up, but I ate. My body would start to feel hungry often, but would be satisfied easily on the smallest amount. Apperently our bodies need a constant supply of fresh energy in order to heal. Healing takes more out of us then we expect. Of course, you're doing good by not over doing it. I can't figure out how much energy our bodies need for healing, but I do know we need more protein than before in order to heal up muscles and bones at a higher pace. Working out, as long as I don't over push myself seems to be helping with the healing process as well. Your body will warn you when you are just hurting but it's fine to continue or when you shouldn't push any further. Our bodies are amazing and it will tell us what to do and pratically take care of it self. I hope by now your body is doing great since it's been over a month since you posted. Keep at it and cheers for a fast and healthy recovery for all the people that work out or do any type of athletic sports who been injured. |

| Weight Loss | Artificial Sweeteners, Splenda | Nov 09 2007 23:31 (UTC) |

I'm actually starting to become curious here with a pattern I noticed. We have a saying. If the first man who walked this earth would appear in our time, he'll die instantly on the first breath. Our bodies are use to the toxins it grew up around. I wasn't born in north america or anywhere near north america. So the artificial sugars were new to my family here. Because I wasn't brought up on those chemicals in the artificial sugars, which could be why my body rejects it. The people who claim they have no problems with the sweeteners, also say they were taking them since they came out. Lets see how many people this applies to. How many who have no problem with the artificial sugars after long term consumption grew up on it, and how many haven't? How many who's body reject the sugars, are not familiar with the chemicals used in them, or are familiar? When I say familiar, I mean through consumption. |

| Weight Loss | Artificial Sweeteners, Splenda | Nov 09 2007 15:05 (UTC) |

I can only share my experience with artificial sugars. For about a month, I was buying only the sugar free products. Anything with sucralose in it and yogurt that says "Naturally sweetened with Splenda". I thought, if it's natural, it should be all right. Sucralose and Splenda are still being passed by as natural sweeteners here, even if they're not. So I bought a bunch of things. Yogurt, Jello, frozen yogurt, cookies and so on. Since the Yogurt was only 40 calories, I thought it be safer to eat it and same with the other foods that was sugar free. I ended up consuming 6-8 of those products daily for about a month. A few weeks later, I started having jabbing pains in my gut that would jerk me awake, my face gotten a red lining over the nose and cheek, was having gas build ups and diarrhea. I decided to do some research on sucralose, and found there were other people that been having the same symptoms as me from consuming it and some gotten even worst and been hospitalized. It really is 50/50 chance of being affected by it or not. Because I was taking such high quantities of it, my body couldn't handle it anymore. I decided to test it out and went off the products with sucralose and bought ones with real sugar instead. There was a bit more calories in them, but my health is more important than to worry about that. A few days later, I gotten better, and over a week all to most the symptoms were gone. I'm not diabetic or anything, so no point of me eating the artificial sugars. Same foods get made with real sugar and taste better anyways. So it really is your choice. Because of my experience, I wouldn't recommend it, but to each, his own. Edited: lol, I messed up the saying "to each, his own" Just corrected it now |

plain hot tea also helps. Since it's hot, you won't drink it as fast and will get the "I just ate" feeling till lunch. Spreading out your meals will help against those long waits. So it'll be less likely you'll starve. I eat piratically every 2 hours. Plus I have hot plain decaf green teas in between. |

I'm aware that moderation is the key on things. Just been worried with all said about margarine. Becel claims to be safe for the heart and be non hydrogenated. The problem with our society, not everything that is claimed is true. There's some oils in it that I never even heard of. I got the sodium free becel for my family. We were out of margarine, so if I was going to get them one, I wanted to have less of what's already in it. I'll list the ingredients here for the becel I got. Canola and sunflower oils 75%, water, modified palm and palm kernel oils 6%, whey protein concentrate 0.5%, soy lecithin 0.2%, vegetable monoglycerides, potassium sorbate, vegetable colour, artificial flavour, citric acid, vitamin A palmitate, Vitamin D3, alpha-tocopherol acetate It's quite a list if I do say so myself. It got the health check from the "Heart and Stroke foundation". It says it's a source of Omega.3, and has no trans fat. Non hydrogenated. Low in saturated fat. Hope that information helps to identify how much is true or not. |

My brother and I use to finish off the popcorn before the previews were over so we can get the free refills. Now I avoid all snacking in the theaters. If I'll ever go in the evening, I'll have dinner at home and leave some spare calories for the movie. Ever heard of smart pops? The 100 calorie mini bags. Don't know why they're called mini bags, since they seem quite big. But I haven't seen the full size smart pop yet. I'll also will bring some crushed smarties to sprinkle into the popcorn once I'm in the theater. The mini packs in the boxes that are 50 calories for the smarties. There's no trans or cholesterol in smarties and on that portion, not that much sodium. It's also fun mixing graham crackers into my popcorn. There you go, your own movie snack that is both sweet and salty at once. smart pop 100 smarties 50 graham crackers 110 ------------------------------- 260calories to spare for the night time movies if you make that treat. I put my food in a plastic bag. No one checks it. I haven't done that yet though. I mean the movie snack idea. I have brought lunch to the movies before since it was playing during the time I had to eat. My meals are scheduled, lol. |

There's something that's been bugging me about this as well. Butter is natural and our body knows how to handle it in moderations. Margarine, our body has no clue what to do with it, so it stays and clogs up our colons. But there is some margarines that is said to be safe and non hydrogenated, like Becel. The only thing is, I don't know if it's true or not. The ingredient list is huge. I usually avoid both. If I want something spread over my toast, I use olive oil. It has a margarine taste. I don't like the feel and taste of butter, even if it's safer in moderation than margarine. If anyone knows anything about Becel and how much of what's said is true on it, it'll be great. |

| Weight Loss | Not able to eat 1200 calories???!!! How is this possible? | Nov 01 2007 14:30 (UTC) |
37 |
I actually be eating 700-900 calories a day if I didn't come here. I was on a diet before that was restricting and made it a life long eating plan once I was off it. I tend to follow things by the book from the book. It was a diet book my mom put me on. If I didn't catch how much calories I was eating daily in time, I'll be in big trouble now. It took me a while when I did realize, to get those calories up. If I waited longer, I'll probably have the same problem where I can't go over. I'm eating now about 1600 calories a day. Every week I found a way to add more. I started adding snacks. Having bigger dinners, increase my breakfast by one food item, than I increased my snack by one food item. Took a few months, but surely and slowly, I raised those calories. When I was writing about the 100 calorie increase a week. I found people who were afraid to do that, in fears of gaining. It's a mind set to some people, and they don't wish to risk all their hard work. I was afraid before hand to. I was afraid if I went against the book, I'll gain all my weight back, because that's what the book said. I believed it then. Technically, I'm not suppose to have snacks, according to the diet book but I broke that already. I been trying to maintain and instead, I'm still loosing weight and actually looking good. I'm one of the lucky people that caught my problem in time, so I didn't cause any damage to my body that I know of. Some people already damaged themselves. Their metabolism slowed, their bodies holding on more fat and so on. Anything that was damaged could be fixed, but it's fear that keeps them from taking that route. No one wants to gain back the weight they worked hard to loose, and that fear is what keeps people from thinking about their healths. |

p_fagan, check out the ingredients for the splenda. 2 molecules there are dangerous chemicals and only one is natural. Aspartame has caused some deaths in people as well. Check out some horror stories, some really scary things as well warnings from friends that have quite a bit to tell. Sucralose though, just some really bad negative effects, but no deaths yet under its belt. Just people thinking they're going to die from the illnesses and pain. I said in my post before, if you use a lot of those daily, you have a good chance of being affected. I already also had some negative effects from sucralose, and gotten better in nearly a week after I cut it out. Jabbing pains in my gut, redness over my nose and cheeks, making me look very feverish, gas build ups, diarrhea, and a reversed fever. I call it reversed because my body temperature drops instead of heightening. I was consuming quite a bit daily then, till I decided to do some research and see if any of the ingredients that is linked to the foods I was eating was giving others the same side effects. Other things I read about, I checked on our ingredients, in moderation, you'll be fine. But for those fake sugars, our bodies find them dangerous either way. If you can afford to cut them out, then best to. The sugar versions will be safer unless you are diabetic or suffer from other problems that don't allow you to consume sugar |

| Weight Loss | Eating majority of Calories in the evening...? | Oct 29 2007 20:43 (UTC) |

I guess it also depends on your activity schedule. I eat half my calories for dinner. During the day, I'm always eating, snacking or drinking tea every 2 hours, so I always have something in my stomach. 3 meals, 2 snacks, and 3 tea times. The reason I eat half my calories for dinner (which is anywhere between 5-4 hours before I sleep) is so that I would have the extra stored energy for the morning. I work out first thing in the morning. It's 2 hours of working out if I have the weights that day. If I'm not weight lifting, slash 20 minutes off the workout. I eat breakfast afterwards, which will be a small one. I'm not that hungry after working out. My body knows how much it needs for the activities, so I just listen to it. Besides, I surely don't want to loose faster. Been trying to maintain after reaching my goal, but yet I'm still loosing. Our metabolism is really 24/7 and some people have it faster in the evening hours and some in the morning. A small breakfast to kick start mine is good enough. There's a reason I'm not that hungry then. Our bodies warn us when is needed when. Statistics are only statistics. |

| Foods | Is Fruit bad? | Oct 29 2007 17:19 (UTC) |
3 |
Yay yay to us fruit addicts. over eating on anything is bad for you. Fruits are very healthy in moderation. Besides, it beats having some high sugar and trans fat dessert after a meal. I have fruits for my snacks and as a dessert after some of my meals. I don't have to worry about sugar crashes as much from fruits if I don't over do it. Our bodies absorb the sugar slower than it would from a chocolate bar. So it makes a good longer lasting energy source right before some treacherous chore you don't want to do. Especially if it'll prolong the time before your next meal. The chore, not the fruit. I eat quite a bit of veggies to. Fruits and veggies are a good snack combo. And yum... fruits dipped in yogurt. Strawberry is especially good for that and they're lower in calories than other fruits for the same amount of grams. Honeydew melon, watermelon, strawberry, pineapple are the lower calorie ones. I know I missed quite a bit, but those are the ones I know for sure. Grapes, bananas, kiwi, are higher in calories. Though it doesn't mean they're bad. Half a banana is equaled to one fruit and they're really healthy, especially for people who work out like me. Grapes have to be portioned as well, forgot how many grams is a portion and kiwi...well, it's not high once you peel it since you loose most of the meat when doing that, lol. Kiwi is fine, just don't go eating one after another. They're really healthy to. Just keep things in moderation and fruits be your best friend. Besides, I lost quite a lot of weight fast and ate fruits for dessert. I'm still loosing weight and been trying to maintain for quite some time, yet I'm having more fruits than before (since I have snacks now). 4-5 fruits a day, sometimes only 3, but that one is rare. |

splenda and other artificial sugars are considered to be dangerous chemicals. our bodies aren't able to handle them. The reason sucralose (splenda) is 0 calories is because our bodies can't digest it. The problem is, our bodies don't know how to handle the 2 part chemicals in it as well. So if you keep drinking it every day instead of water, the toxins will build up inside and will be noticeable in various of side effects, including deadly ones in long term consumptions (which isn't that long if you take it daily). Aspartame is more deadlier than sucralose though, since it's fully made out of dangerous chemicals, where sucralose is one part natural and 2 parts deadly. lol, just a funny way of putting it. Hope that answers your question. |

| Foods | Soy is not the ultimate super health food- we've been duped | Oct 25 2007 15:40 (UTC) |
30 |
If it's food that is still good in moderation, I don't see it as dangerous. I'm aware most our products contain soy oil, but what of too much processed food is ever good for you? It's all fine in moderation. I'll eat soy in its more natural form as a treat. Miso soup, ademame, yumm.. Things I can only get in a restaurant anyways. bean sprouts as well. It's not something I can afford to eat often. I don't like the taste and texture of tofu and soy milk, so I'm not in fear of over consuming. So in my book, soy stays the same and my levels of consumptions won't change on it unless we finally get some money and can go out to eat in a japanese restaurant. I seriously want some miso soup and ademame...waiting so long. Well, of course, sushi to, but that part is off topic. I knew some of the dangers of over consuming soy. There's dangers in over consuming just about any product and I over do it with fruits. So yes, too much of that can be dangerous to. Speaking of food, need a snack. |

Wow, yeah, that's another effect I been reading about it. There's so much information and possible side effects written about them. It actually starts to feel like a horror novel after a while. The Diet drinks and Zero drinks contain aspartame. You'll see the ingredient on the side enlarged. Some products won't outline the aspartame, so the reader could bypass and not notice the product contains that stuff. Like that 5calorie Jello I use to have. You can't cook with aspartame , so you'll find it in the foods that don't require to be baked, cooked, or heated in any way. Sucralose you can cook with, so the other sugar free products will contain that.

lol, don't worry, I drink my teas plain to. I'm a green tea addict, with or without caffeine. There's about 2 calories estimated in a cup of green tea, so I still log it. Calorie is a calorie, and I drink about 3-5 mugs of green tea a day. I want to get myself some cups for the green tea instead. Lol, my mug is badly steined from all the tea and I hate not being able to see the colour of what I'm drinking. It's an orange and dark base mug, so it covers up the tea's colour. Not as fun. But yes, eating a sweet treat and having a sip of green tea is delicious. My aunt got some green tea from china from a friend that just returned from a trip from there. No one in her home drinks it, so she gave it to me. I had some yesterday and half a rum ball. Was so filling and yummy. Though the rum ball felt too sweet. I was glad I only took half. Been too hard to finish then. The smell from the tea and the sweet taste from the dessert...such a good combo. It helped make the rum ball more bearable. |

sooji, splenda uses sucralose which is one natural molecule and 2 unnatural chemicals your body can't break down. Aspartame is full chemicals. The reason they're 0 calories is because your body can't digest those "sugars". Though some people could digest sucralose and will get the calories from them. Depends on your body. With sucralose, you gain an allergic reaction to it over time. Not everyone does if you control the amount well and not over use it. Cramping, diarrhea, blemishes, and many other things to list on what side effects you can gain. Aspartame is more dangerous since it's linked to many diseases of the ovaries, as well cancers. Your body doesn't know how to deal with those chemicals, so it builds up inside you. There is such thing as Aspartame poisoning. These are dangerous chemicals that your body doesn't need added in it. We have so much crap in us already that it's dealing with, so why must we have to add more? |

| Fitness | Working out with a cold? | Oct 23 2007 16:49 (UTC) |

Cold's are pretty minor. I kept working out even if it was cold out or raining. Though my cold lasted me for over 3 weeks because of that. I just ended up slowing down a bit and I think that's when I stopped working out in the evening. I work out every morning, so I use to over push myself with the evening workouts to, without realizing it. If you can handle being sicker longer and keep working out, really up to you. My immune system is strong so I don't worry much when I get ill. It might be over a year before I catch a cold again. Working out is just part of waking up, so I can't really skip it since I do it first thing in the morning. I started bundling up more and covering my neck and ears when I do my cardio, also drank a lot of hot tea. 5-8 mugs a day with lemon, lime, or low sugar raspberry jam in it. That way I couldn't worsen my cold while working out since I constantly kept my body warm from the inside and had many liquids as well sweat it out during the workouts. You know your body best and what it can take. |

I keep track because I never know when I'm under estimating on what i eat. I rather see more calories there than what I eaten to know I'm still safe even if I see it's over. As well, if you drink a lot of those drinks and take enough low calorie things, it does add up. Diet drinks do have quite a bit of calories, just much less than it's true sugar versions which are safer for you than the sugar free crap. Diet drinks and adding sugar to drinks are treats and I treat them as any other junk food. Remember, this place gives more than just an estimate of calories. If you want to see where you are on your intakes, easier to keep track. Sodium be found in many of these things. I'm still looking to the day I can have a rootbeer for dessert. Damn money shortages. Lol, when I drank pop, that was my favorite. |

hi, I always had larger thighs and a wider butt than the rest of me till of late. I found what worked for me was power walking. Over the months, my thighs shrunk, as well my butt became smaller and now it has a rounded curve in a way that makes my mom jealous. lol, she said it. For my butt, I did calisthenics to lift it and strengthen the muscle. I don't know the name of it, but you have to lay down on your back with your knees at shoulder length apart. Then lift your mid section by a bit and squeeze the muscles as hard as you can and then lower back down. I do them in reps of 12. Hope that gives you some help. I was told not to do biking since it'll have an opposite effect on me. My thighs build in muscle really fast, so they'll end up wider instead. |

They're completely different on taste. If you prefer the sweeter product, it's coke, Pepsi is not as sweet, but higher in caffeine. But anyways, aspartame is really dangerous. I'm moving off the splenda crap to. There's no deaths yet under splenda/sucralose like there is on aspartame, but there are some permanent damage you can gain from it and your body becomes allergic to it over time. I prefer the extra 10 calories from products that use actual sugar. Least i know my body can handle that with minor to no side effects. Everything in moderation.

That's a lot of pizza slices to get to 10,000. Just imagined the slices piling up instead of full pizza. Lets see, a 10,000 calorie sandwich. I'm going to move away from the sweet part, so this will be one tall sandwich. A submarine bun, 110 calories. Now in it I'll put Slices of swiss cheese. 80 calories 4 slices of of deli sliced turkey breast 80 calories 4 bacon strips 220 calories a cup of shredded ice berg lettuce 6 calories 3 slices of tomatoes 12 calories serving of pickled hot pepper rings 5 calories 5 slices of pickles 5 calories 4 onion rings 149 calories serving of sliced green olives 15 calories 2 tbsp of light mayonnaise 90 calories A serving of fat free honey mustard (I like the taste better) 30 calories 43g Fried chicken trips 127 calories and on top of the bun, melted 1.25 slices of deli mozzarella cheese 76 calories All comes to a total of 10,000 calories. I don't think my jaw is wide enough to bite into that. |
