If u figure the cost of all the shoes you are bying that tear, they will probably equal the cost of a REALLY GREAT pair of running shoes that fit your foot correctly and will also help prevent injury.  Just my opinion, good luck.

Eh, not really.  I would still need to replace them every 6 months or so based on how much I run, and this current pair of shoes has lasted about 4 without tearing, so at best I would be breaking even.  I did check the wear pattern, and there may be a very slight amount of extra wear on the outside.

Unfortunately there are really no great foot ware (let alone running shoe) stores within a couple hundred miles, so I'm probably not going to be getting the problem professionally "diagnosed" any time soon.

Not really, unfortunately.  I didn't have the time or resources to take the advice I was given here on the forum, but I found a pair of Adidas that have some extra stitching and a better kind of material in the heel area, and they've lasted much longer than the other shoes I'd tried.  They are developing holes, but it is in such a way that I'm not getting blisters from them, which is a step in the right direction.  For now it's the best I can hope for, I'm afraid.

Of course they don't list a model number anywhere on the shoe, but I got them from Academy and they were around $40.  Several of the Adidas shoes that I saw had a similarly reinforced stitching pattern, so you might check them out.  Good luck!

I'll join the choir of people glad to hear that you are thinking of adoption.  My husband and I got our first dog together (his first dog ever) in September of 07.  I had grown up with a golden that I had begged for until I was 7 years old.  She was a wonderful dog that we raised from puppyhood who died about 2 years before my husband and I got our dog.

Due to my experience with my golden, that was originally what I had in mind when we went to the shelter.  We thought we wanted a larger dog because that's all I had ever known.  The day we visited the shelter a lot of their dogs happened to be out at local Petsmarts where they were doing on site adoptions, so when we didn't find a perfect fit at the shelter we went to the Petsmart to have a look, and met our Pratchett there.  She was a scrawny, sick, dirty 8 month old terrier mix and we completely fell in love.

Now that we've had her for almost a year and a half I can't imagine having gotten any other dog, so I guess the moral of my story is that you should be aware that in going through the adoption process you may end up with a completely different kind of dog than you would have thought you'd want.  When you go to a shelter I think the best thing to look for is a good personality match.

Recently my parents got a black lab puppy and the hell they've gone through with her taught my husband and I just how lucky we were to have chanced into a dog that was mostly house trained and extremely well mannered from the start. As far as bonding, it mostly just happens.  The first night we brought Pratchett home she curled up at the head of our bed and fell asleep.  The next morning she woke up and just...went crazy, in a good way.  It was like she was just so excited and happy that she had woken up and she was still with us that she couldn't contain herself.  Lmao, and it still makes me tear up to think about it!

Ask as many questions as you can of the shelter staff, but don't let them pressure you into a specific dog if it doesn't feel perfect.  We had one volunteer try to get us to take home a dalmation mix "just to see how it fit" even though we were obviously unsure about it, which comes up as a red flag thinking back on it.

I could literally go on for days, so I'll leave it at that.  Good luck finding your dog!

My dog had similar symptoms when she hit about 12.  She was not heart worm postitive, but was a bit overweight.  She had been acting oddly for about a week when she collapsed in front of me and had a seizure.  Our guess is that she'd been having them for a while before we finally witnessed it.  She was diagnosed with diabetes and lived for another 3 1/2 years thanks to daily insulin shots, but she was never really the same after the seizures.  She went deaf, and then slowly went blind.  We had to put her down when she could no longer support herself using her back legs.

Honestly, anything could be wrong with your dog, but it is possible that with treatment you won't have to put him down immediately.  Good luck at the vet - hopefully it's nothing serious.

Not a bad idea, but the only way I could see that being the problem is if the friction of my heel rubbing across the lining when I put them on is making the holes, but hell, isn't that what they're designed for?  I'm pretty sure at this point that either it's a weight distribution problem, as someone above mentioned, or that I'm wearing my shoes a half size too big and my the back of my foot is sliding around too much as I jog.  I'm going to try to find the most specialized place that I can where I live and see if anyone there can give me any insights.  I'll keep that in mind with my new pair of shoes, though!

Thanks very much for your replies!  I'm going to make do with an older pair for today and tomorrow and go shopping this weekend.  I'll keep those brands in mind, and hopefully have better luck this time around!

Unfortunately the holes are being created higher on the shoe than most orthotics that I've seen cover (Maybe I should have described it as the back of my foot rather than my heel?).  Wearing thicker socks couldn't hurt, though.  Thanks!

That sounds like good advice, thanks!  Now I just have to see if we have any stores like that where I live.  I wonder if Academy could do something like that...

iridescent_identity,

Try swimming!  My mom swam for exercise when she was pregnant with me and loved it.  It's great full body exercise and you can even leave out arms/legs alternately if you're trying to tone one particular area

The Lounge Have you recorded TV to DVD? Jan 06 2009

Hi Sun,

My husband and I bought a DVD recorder fairly recently and we really like it.  It's a Philips DVDR 3505.  It doesn't have a hard drive, but we haven't found a need for one yet.  It works very much like a VCR, only the quality is 100X better.  Ours has an HDMI input/output, so it works with HD TVs and if I remember correctly it is possible to hook it up to a DVR and record previously recorded shows from it.  The only real complaint people had about our model when we purchased it was that the load times were slow, which they can tend to be, but I give it a break since it is loading a lot of information...It's a recorder, not just a player, so it's loading extra options and that takes time.

What I love about this device in general is that now I can record my favorite TV shows and watch them while I run on the treadmill, using my laptop!

@lsam31-

I have the same question.  I'm currently eating 1600/day, but I calculated my BMR on several sites and they all said I was in the 1900 range...that seems like a lot to me!  I categorize myself as light activity because I only sit still for 30 minute increments during my work day.  I log my exercise separately.

Hi all!  I am 23 years old (about to be 24 on the 26th of this month, yikes!) and married to a wonderful man.  We both recently graduated from college and he got his first "real" job in August.  Because of his new job, we have moved 9 hours away from all our friends and family.  I decided to get serious with my weight loss because I realized that we are not too many years away from wanting to start a family.  I want to be a healthy and happy mother, so I've got to put the work in now to get there.  I started using CC in earnest on Nov. 10th, and so far I've lost 9 lbs!! Yay!  I'd love to join your group so I have people to be excited with as I lose the weight!

Stats:

Height: 5'5.5"

Starting Weight: 255

Current Weight: 246

10%: 24.6

Long-term Goal: 160-ish

I did great over Thanksgiving, how did you guys do?
