I really like the Kashi Go Lean cereal that is high in protein and fiber. It tastes really good and has a bit of a sweet flavor, so don't be shocked by the look of it (it reminds me of rabbit food or something). I think a cup have 140 calories, 10 grams of fiber, and 14 grams of protein. |

You are right. She has awesome, lean legs, BUT she is also six or so inches taller than me :( I will keep up with it and hopefully I will be ready for bikini season sooner than later. |

Spin class is an intense, cardio workout on a stationary bike. Usually, it consists of about 50 minutes of various intensities on the bike from sprinting (peddling super fast) to uphill climbs while out of the seat. You usually burn between 500-800 calories at a time, depending on your body weight. |

| Fitness | Personal trainers | Apr 15 2008 16:13 (UTC) |

I had a personal trainer and it was about $55/hour and I had 30 - 1 hour sessions. I can honestly say that the only thing that it was good for was motivation and having someone to push you to go that extra inch (or mile) when you were about to give up (or pass out). My recommendation would be to "observe" others personal training sessions and pick up on the workouts that they are doing and copy them. This acutally came from a personal trainer that I had talked to at my gym. It is just so overpriced, but if you listen and watch, it's like having a personal trainer without spending the money. Otherwise, I would sign up for a free session (which is usually offered) and go from there. |

| Weight Loss | I'm doing a "salt cleanse" tomorrow morning... wanna be my buddy? | Apr 14 2008 13:32 (UTC) |

I actually tried that about a month ago. It was part of the whole "Beyonce Dreamgirls" diet. Every morning for two weeks you drink 32 oz of warm water with two teaspoons of sea salt, then drink a 1/2 a gallon (or so) of a concoction including water, cayenne pepper, maple syrup, and lemons. I made the whole thing and was all ready to start it, but when I went to drink the salt water in the morning I almost gagged. It was the most disgusting taste I have ever experienced voluntarily. I figured I'd skip that step in the "diet" and move onto living on this mixture for the next two weeks... Do you know what it tastes like to drink cayenne pepper? Just what it sounds like... I ended up dumping it all down the drain and decided to eat raw veggies and fruits and lean protein, go to the gym, drink a lot of water and lost weight that way. I started this last Monday and so far I have lost about four pounds (I'm 5'1'' & 142.6 lbs). Let me know how it goes... I'd rather just take a laxative to be honest ;) |

Authentic greek yogurt is made with the following ingredients and isn't the best for you. I would go with Fage because it is measured in individual servings and it is easier to track the calories, fat, etc. Full fat sheep or cow's milk, which is basically boiled and the top is skimmed and then refrigerated. It takes really good with cinnamon, honey, and walnuts added, but it high in fat. When my grandma makes it, she uses a HUGE pot and it is easy to eat a lot of it and feel guilty later.

| Weight Loss | Calories Burnt | Oct 01 2007 16:04 (UTC) |

Hey, I have a desk job as well and I set my activity meter to sedentary (since I cannot promise I will average the "light activity" setting). I do log in my exercises, though, into my activity log to give me a better idea of how many calories I have burned on top of what my body burns throughout the day. For your second comment, daily exercise does raise your resting heart rate, which, in turn, will increase your metabolic rate and ultimately will allow you to burn more calories when doing nothing. Hope this helps a bit. |

| Foods | Any ideas for less expensive healthy foods? | Oct 01 2007 15:48 (UTC) |

What I usually do is buy some Protein powder (soy tastes the best) and mix it with some soy milk or skim milk (if your diet allows for that; I'm not vegetarian, sorry). I would recommend soy powder by EAS Nutrition. You can buy it at Wal-Mart for about $8 - $9 and it lasts about a week or two, depending on how much you use in a day. I usually do about 1.5 scoops (about 30 grams of protein) and mix it with skim or soy milk and you can throw in some ice, a banana, mango, strawberries, etc. to add to the taste (I prefer Vanilla, but the Chocolate is good too). You can buy a mini blender for $20... It ends up being a really good filler at about 370 calories (when using about 12 ounces of milk/soy/etc.) and if you workout, the pounds will melt off because of the protein content. I usually do one in the morning and/or lunch and have healthy snacks (fruits and veggies) in between and some chicken or fish for dinner (I know this is not vegetarian, but something that has a high amount of protein is sure to fill you up and help drop the pounds). Good luck! |
