I'm still eating clean..

I'd like to add one more component to my clean eating starting today. I have this feeling I'm not drinking enough water.. and that is causing some dehydration and sodium retention.

So from today on I have to finish my water jug (at least once a day) in order to qualify as clean :D..

I feel more accountable now that I've told you folks about it.

Good luck to everyone!

Lost around half a lb (?) this week @ 129.5. That is after reaching a new low of 128.5 and then ricochetting back up to 132 so I'll count my blessings.. Laughing

Way to go Harlequin!! I totally agree with you at HIIT..I've not gotten around to it this  week (which is probably why I have been yo-yoing). Everytime I do it though, I know for sure its going to show on the scale over the next few days!

Congratulations all! See you all again with a lot more weight loss next friday!

Foods Has anyone tried "Better'n Peanut Butter?" Sep 18 2007

I didn't like Better'n peanut butter..I tried but could only eat a couple of spoons and finally junked the entire bottle rather than eat calories I am not enjoying.

What didnt I like ?- well it didnt taste the same.. It tasted sweet (I dont like sweet PB) and was much thinner ( I love the thickness of real PB) plus the texture was really different (in a bad way) from that of real PB..In short I felt like it tasted like a bad substitute.. It made sense to me to just eat half of the real thing (if I want to cut down on calories) and really enjoy it..

Sorry for the negative review- but sadly that was my experience with it!

I'm interested in trying out PB2- but dont want to commit the same mistake I did with Better'n peanut butter. Im gonna wait and try out a sample size when I get a chance before I go and buy a lot of it for myself.

You should probably try BNPB at a friends (if you can) before you go out and buy yourself a whole bottle..

Weight Loss Why do people look at me like I'm lying when I tell them how I lost weight Sep 18 2007

I know what you are talking about- I can only say continue what you are doing anyway! People need to grow up!!

I lost around 30 lbs and need to lose around 10 more to reach my goal weight of 120. Nowadays when I am eating out - I catch others watching to see how much I eat/ordered and then commenting on whether I am really full and are you sure that much is enough and why didn't you finish your meal and so on. These comments don't necessarily come from a heavier person, they sometimes come from lighter women too.. I have no idea what to make of these comments : whether it is concern or jealousy. What I do know is that it is none of their business - so I try to nicely fend off such enquiries without getting offended or being defensive.

It has affected my relationships with old friends and acquaintances- all of whom had written me off as life-long chubby are now having to accept me as a slim and attractive person sometimes against their wishes.

Is it still worth it to aim to be healthy and yes - more visually appealing ? Of course it is!!

Go for it Connie!!

On the other hand- having been definitely overweight myself- I can relate to the heavier people not understanding what is going on. Most of them, in my opinion, have accepted that they are fat and that they cannot do anything about it. Or that nothing short of a miracle (starving for long periods or working out all day) could cause the scales to budge. I can understand that confusion because I too was there and felt like that at a point. If I feel that the person passing comments is really confused- I do try to help them out by pointing them to this site and the features it offers. I warn them that it can take 6 months to a year for changes to show- but that this plan will work.

Passing on the goodness!! :)

I have a size 2 capri that I fit into but it is tight. The size 4 of the same design fit perfectly but I chose to buy the tight one anyway- so I'd have something to work towards!!

I'd love for it to be loose and flappy like I think it is meant to be..!

Someone needs to ban all posts that have the "P" word in the title!! :D Ok- I'm just kidding..

But seriously- I am totally in control of my cravings till I read those two words!! Reading "Peanut butter" or even PB nowadays makes me want to run to wherever I have stashed it away and indulge!! What's more I seem to gain weight each time I have even a little PB, even if I have factored it into my caloric intake... Happened yesterday too :(((!!

Most unfair.. I'm doomed to read all of your posts without getting to eat it..

Thanks for the welcome everyone! This thread is so supportive!

I am at 130 today - which is not bad in itself (1 lb loss from last week). Its just that I've been through this cycle of working my way down to 130 only to gain again and go as far back as 135 before. So I'm a bit scared of this number.. You know what I mean ?

I have revamped my exercise schedule (did some kick-ass workouts on the elliptical this week- ok- kick-ass by my specific definition :D- half hour to 40 minutes at resistance 5-9). I'm also trying to maintain a maximal calorie intake of upto 1400 most days...with a caloric deficit of 500 to 600.

I dont think I can actually call this a plateau - because my weight is moving all the time -it just isnt budging below 130!! Do any of you who moved past this weight have any tips for me?

I know- I should be patient.. it will take time. I have lost more than 20 lbs in the past. Its just easier to stay motivated when you see results!

I had a bad fit of sweet cravings yesterday that I barely escaped from that could have sabotaged my entire weeks hard work!

Ok- it felt good venting..

Its very nice reading all your ideas- keep up the great work all! I'm going to look in here every other day.. Wish all of you a healthy weekend!

Congratulations Mabear!! 15.5 inches is quite an achievement!! Abt the elliptical- I'd say take it one day at a time.. It is pretty difficult when you are new at it. So keep a slow enough pace to maintain sustainable activity in your legs and fast enough pace to break into a sweat. And keep adjusting the pace and resistance as you get better- trust me it will happen.

It's day 8 for me since I started and I have to tell you guys I came dangerously close to breaking my clean eating yesterday!! I had the sweet-munchies... was craving everything and anything sweet. And during such times no amount of healthy substitution (fruits/veggies) really does feel good enough!!

I think it is the fear of having to tell you guys that I am "no longer clean" that kept me going.. :D

So yeah *emerging from battle with bruises and wiping sweat off brow* I'm still CLEAN!! YEAH!

Weight Loss Anyone else hungry? Sep 13 2007

Is this your first few days on the 1300 cal limit ?

Is this near your time of the month ?

Are you stressed/upset/angry about something?

Are you drinking enough water?

Have you changed anything in your current diet -as in proportions of different food groups?

All or any one of these can cause hunger even after eating a nutritious meal. Give yourself time (if you are just getting used to cutting down calories) and double- check that you are getting the calories you need...

If it helps, I'm hungry too today :). Today I suspect it is thirst and my body is translating that as hungry - gonna grab some H2O !

Good luck and hang on!

Wow- this is such a thought provoking post!!

Thanks Lis, Larisa for all the elaboration- I needed to read it too - especially because I am somewhat shy.. Looks like you thought up a lot of this stuff in advance making it easier for folks like me.. Thanks for sharing!!

Larisa, I understand @ fat women not percieved sexually AND the negative women finally seeing you as a threat. Well, regardless of whether or not I am threat-worthy Laughing -  I resent that someone had dismissed me as a threat or thought they were superior just because I was 20 + lbs heavier!!! I guess it also hurts to find out that a friend might have been shallow. I too need to not think too much about such things..

Lis, I loved your sentence about "options".. I think that is very true and somewhat scary if you are a shy person. (Well, I chat up people/strangers as part of my job, but I know deep inside that it I'm having to keep working at it.. I always envy people who can be/seem to be so comfortable without trying!!). So yeah, suddenly having all those options can be scary... just got to learn to ride the wave :)..

Anyway, I'm gonna tag this too and read it once in a while. Thanks !!

Weight Loss FATTY ME! Sep 10 2007

hey, good luck with the weight loss. You can do this!! :)

Some things that work for me :

  1. Use the forums : reading about other peoples problems, victories etc. keeps me grounded.
  2. Use the "tools" section : find out how many calories you can eat in a day, how many you burn usually and how long it will take to reach your goal the old fashioned way :).
  3. Make friends : last time I lost weight on this site- I owe it all to my weight loss buddies..they kept me accountable.
  4. Put your stats ( age, height, current weight, goal weight) on your profile : it helps new people relate to you and people with similar goals to find you.
  5. Remember that it takes time - you are in for the long haul..Your weight loss of 15 or more lbs could take 3-4 months of healthy eating to lose and lifelong eating well to keep off.

Yay!! for everyone..

Thanks to clean eating ( i.e. 1200 to a max of 1400 calories for me) I have actually reached an even 130 lbs as of this  morning! This is my current lowest point (I keep yo-yoing to 135) and I am hoping to go even lower because of continuing a clean diet!!

My newest discoveries : strawberries (around 50 calories for 10 - 15) and plum tomatoes (@ 50 calories a cup) Oh such refreshing and yummy and light snacks..!!

Deejlb- too bad @ extra treat :D..Hope to see you back soon..!

Weight Loss How does sleep effects weight loss? Sep 10 2007
09:43 (UTC)

Well, I have read that people who sleep at least 7 to 8 hours a day lose weight and keep it off better than those who sleep lesser. I think it is because of stress hormones being released when you don't sleep well- and stress hormones cause you to hold on to weight as a primitive survival mechanism.

No, I dont think sleeping and waking up late should make a difference- so long as you get enough sleep in between.

Congratulations Kdim!!! I so know what you mean at an "other" woman!!

I too just recently have been maintaining at the weight I got married in (~ 130) after dropping down from a high of 160. It means much to me that my husband should get to know the "other" woman - I was 10 lbs lighter (~120) when we first met.. :D I hope to get there by the end of this year..

Well, some people may say its the sign of a successful marriage - that you stop watching weight because you are content but I'd rather be content AND healthy ..

You should definitely try the shopping for clothes- you have earned it! Good luck with your future goals!!!

Me and my friend were at the same weight 2 years ago- she joined weightwatchers and I started counting calories.  We both lost the same amount of weight (around 20 lbs) on our respective plans and both have kept it off so far...

She liked the personal touch WW gave people - the weekly meetings and discussions of everyone's problems face to face. I like the anonymity of the CC website and the support on calorie counting and from forums & online friends.

As far as diets go- we both ate about the same amount of foods- we compared..

So what does that say? I guess both plans are effective for different people types. The important thing is to stick to a plan and understand it is for life.

Weight Loss calorie/exercise question Sep 07 2007
01:36 (UTC)

I'd agree with thumtat31 (andrea)..the 1200 minimum is what our bodies need to survive..so any workouts done with such a low diet should be compensated by eating a little more on those days. On the other hand, if you have been pretty much sitting around all day - then 1200 calories is probably just enough to keep yourself nourished but still losing weight.

Do correct me if I'm wrong!

hi! I am in exactly the same boat as you.. except much shorter (5'4"). I too find it easier to stay around the early 130's but my body is stubbornly resisting any attempts to go any lower. I've been 159 too (my highest - more than a year ago)..

I gave up and was around the 130's for a while and am wondering if it will be easier this time around..!

Sorry-  I dont have an answer - but we are so similar I had to post! :D
