Weight Loss BINGE eating! Jan 19 2008

hey shadowmystika

i managed to watch a whole DVD downstairs last night (on my own) without having the urge to binge! most probably because i had already done it the night before however, i woke thismorning, made breakfast and couldnt help but pick again, only this time i was in controll. i knew what i was doing but didnt feel too bad because it wasnt just a mindless thing where id gorge myself without even thinking twice about it. i weighed stuff and counted the numbers which altogether came in at around 300. still not good i know.

if only my parents stopped buying this junk.  its so tough because they buy pies, chocolates, cakes, cookies, doughnuts at each weekly shop and they dont have a clue! im just too embarrased to say anything.

its funny really. you eat and eat until you cant possibly eat no more, yet you body is STILL craving the food. so then you end up eating even more.. weird how sugar can have such controll over someones life. just like alcohol and drugs i guess.

i dont think so.

i aim to burn about 700 at the gym each time (somedays more) so 1,600 living/sedentary + 700 burned = 2300 burned that day - desired deficit (700) = 1,600 to eat right?

hi all.

my name is lizzie and i think i am a binger?

i discovered this site a while back but never knew this forum existed!

ive only recently developed this 'thing' and hate whats its doing to me and my body. i cant help but eat all the wrong foods. there was a time in my life where i wouldnt even dream about putting a piece of cake past my lips, but now i can easily have a slice without hesitating or thinking twice so i'll have another and thats when it all begins..

its worrying because i cant just have ONE slice of cake or ONE piece of chocolate without going into 'binge mode' or thinking 'WELL YOUVE BLOWN IT NOW, YOU MIGHT ASWELL CARRY ON'

they say balance and moderation is the key. but i find that so hard. how are you meant to eat your trigger foods without each moment turning into another regretful binge?

i have noticed that it always seems to happen whenever my parents are out or im home alone, because thats the perfect opportunity right? or even if its something i might of eaten that makes me think ive blown it already, so ive blown the whole day! its not so much the savoury things i crave, i just crave the sugar and the sweet taste, which i think is where most of the problem could be coming from.

below is what a binge of mine once consisted of:

- spoonfulls of peanut butter
- spoonfulls of chocolate spread
- sponge cake w. cream filling
- fairy cakes
- chocolate swiss rolls
- individullay wrapped chocolates
- dry cereal
- biscuits
- cookies etc..

once the damage is done, i always think that it will be the last time, and that tomorrow is a new day but then it happens again! im tired of abusing my body, and how it has changed because of this. i just want to get out of this vicious cycle ive somehow fallen into.

its worrying because i almost wish i went back to the girl i used to be who forgot what sugar tasted like because she hadnt eaten it in such a long time. though back then i was drastically underweight, obsessed&n bsp;and very unhappy, but at least i had the control of what i no longer seem to have.

i need help.

thanks alot! im glad you understand lol..

and yur right about the cardio. and yur probably right about everything else, its just my stomach and other lose bits.

i know i should tone but dont you need to lose the fat first?

sometimes i even get freaked about the whole thing and start thinking ' but this/that isnt going to burn the calories, when i could be burning more doing cardio!'

i selected sedentary as i figured it would be the safest option to choose.

stats:

5"1
about 103lbs i think

so what would be my safest bet? 1,200 PLUSS calories burned from excercise (800)? or just half of that? arggggghh i dont knowwww!

it proper knocks my confidence. im only small, like 5"1 so it shows alot on me.. it sucks!

ok thanks for all your advice!

because cc tools said i must consume 1,200 for weight loss, is it ok to look at it like this too:

1,200 + calories burned at gym (500)= 1,700 (to eat)

1,700 - 1,200 = 500 deficit

this way im having a 500 deficit without going below 1,200 right?

or should i be doing the calculations from my sedentary burn which is around 1,600?

this stuff really confuses me, i think i just need someone to do the math for me because i still dont get it!

im 5"1 98lbs and want to lose a couple more.. i go gym about 3 times a week and burn about 600 calories with cardio and then spend about 30 mins on weights.

could someone please calculate me a safe deficit and a sensible number to eat?

id really appreciate the help!

hi shiagirl. im short too (5'2) and also eat about 1,700 on gym days but i find if you choose the right foods then your less likely to feel hungry. ive recently discovered fage yoghurts with 0 % fat, and only 78 calories per 150g pot! there loaded with proteine which are ideal for that post-workout snack! i also snack on low calorie popcorn, cereal bars and fruit..

dont give up though! you can do it...

thankyou!

but say it took me a little long.. like 85 minutes

1,800 - 85 mins (102 cals) = 1,694

1,694 + (600 gym) = 2,294 burned that day - (500 deficit) = about 1,750 to eat right?

or is this not right because i then figured 1,750 eaten - 600 burned = 1,150 net? or is this ok..

so on days i know i am going to burn 600 calories at the gym do i just need to minus 60 from my 1,800 of living?

which would then be:

( 1800 - 60) =

1740 + (600 gym) = 2340 burned that day - (500 deficit) = 1840 to eat, right?

tannnya i dont understand your post..

im not supposed to add calories burned  at the gym or through daily activities ontop of my 1,500 sedentary lifestyle?

but if i subtracted from 1,500 that would put me below a net intake of 1,200 right?
Weight Loss any oval faces w. double chins? Oct 12 2007
18:52 (UTC)

hi mrskim. i took a look at your picture and the double chin thing you say you have going on is hardly noticeable.. maybe some sort of fringe would make you feel better although it could be tricky if your hair is naturally curly.

thanks for your post absterry! i thought my face is oval? either way i still suffer from the double chin thing :(
i heard your a hairdresser.. looking at my photo, (and my face shape) what sort of style would balance out my features? (im currently wearing my fringe asymmetrical - like abit off centre if thats what it means)

hi finchcat, do you have a picture? i too get self-conscious with the double chin thing and also only feel ok when im looking too thin in the rest of my body! i wish i could weigh more without having to have the worry but i know i'll never be able to pull it off! btw what haircut did you get?

hi enchantingimage.

you said your at the point of maintaining now? i'm also but how do you do it...

what would you say your average calorie need is and how much excercise do you do now to stay on track?

also, do you allow yourself to relax for a day or two if you have been good throughout the week?
Maintaining CLICK ME =] Sep 25 2007
07:36 (UTC)

i dont know Undecided i just thought it was one of the three elements used to help determin your total calorie need

  • energy for basic body processes (BMR) 70%
your resting metabolic rate (the amount of energy needed to enable the body to functon over 24-hour period)
  • digestion of food (thermogenic rate) 10%
the amount of energy used in digesting and processing the food (known as the thermic effect of food)

  • physical activity (activity metabolic rate) 20% the amount of calories you expend during activity.

if you google 'the thermic effect of food' it tells you all about it. but i wasnt sure myself wether or not that the thermic effect of food is already included in the equation?

some advice please folks??

Weight Loss Calories In V.S Calories Out - Proper Caloric Deficits Sep 24 2007

hi coachdee! i've been looking through your posts and was hoping that you could help me slove this equation once and for all. im sorry if this seems a little repetitive.

stats:

height: 154 cm
98lbs (looking to maintain)

ok here goes:

using the Harrison Bededict Formula my BMR is calculated at 1,283. this is the number i need just to keep my body ticking over right?

ok so assuming everyone is sedentary in their day to to living i calculate 1,283 and muliplied it by 1.2 (sedentary)

example: 1,283 calories x 0.20 = 256 calories

i then added together my BMR and calories burned by my activity level which then gives me 1,539.

i also factored in calories used during the digestion of food which is normaly 10% for the general population right?

example: 1,539 x 0.10 = 154 calories + 1,539 calories = 1,693 calories.

so therefore i burn an average of 1,693 calories everyday to support my bodys most basic needs, activity level and digestion of food.. right?

(please tell me if this is right)

ok now lets say that im other than sedentary in my normal day to day living and do other activities which burns about 300 - 500 calories. would i then just need to add these (or some) of the calories burned through my activity ontop of my normal calorie expediture of (1,693) to maintain my current weight?

(taking into account calories burned through activity will vary each day but if ive got this sussed i can almost figure out the rest!)

- id rather add my acitvity calories manually to get a more accurate result, which is ok right?

if anyone would be so kind and tell me if this seems about right i'd be very much grateful =]

i was also wondering if anyone could post me the correct formula for a calorie deficit. not that i want one but what would you say a safe deficit would be just to maintain?

Maintaining NEW AND ABIT CONFUSED! :S Sep 10 2007

ok so my BMR is calculated somewhere around 1,200.. this is the minimum i must eat which my body NEEDS  n order for my body to function properly, yeah i know..

assuming that everyone is sedentary in their everyday life i calculated my sedentary lifestyle to be 1,500 which is the number i must go by to maintain my weight at 98 lbs, right?

but is my BMR of 1,200 already included in the calculation of my sedentary lifestyle needs or do i need to add tese two together? =S
