Celebrities are miserable because they are held to impossible standards of beauty. You also will be miserable if you hold yourself to the same standards. The difference is you won't get paid at the end of the day for it. Dump him. Find someone who appreciates YOUR unique beauty and body shape. |

| Weight Loss | Master Cleanse - feedback? | Jan 02 2008 05:23 (UTC) |

I'm on day 9 of the Master Cleanse right now. I started it initially because I have really bad food cravings and annoying problems with binging. I'd like to just wipe the slate clean, have a clean happy body and start practicing temperance and creating new food habits when I come off of the fast. Stanley Burroughs is the guy who invented the cleanse and I highly, highly recommend you read HIS book before beginning, and then follow it word for word through out (you can download it in pdf version for free). If you have weight to lose and you don't lose it during the fast, you probably have too much maple syrup. I use a 2:1 ratio of lemon juice to maple syrup and I've lost at a rate of 2 lbs per day since the beginning. I'm also chugging water every time I remember. My tongue is coated very thickly and I have to scrape it every day. If I breathe too hard I'll peel the paint off the walls... but other than that my experience of the MC so far has been pretty positive. I would recommend it to others so long as they were willing to take the time and effort to do it right. |

| Maybe it's delayed muscle soreness? I have been completely fine after working out and then felt the soreness 3, sometimes 5 days later in muscles I hadn't worked at all that day. You might not have escaped the soreness yet! :P | |||

| Weight Loss | Anyone getting tired of the word BINGE? | Dec 09 2007 01:54 (UTC) |
7 |
Binge and purge are terms used in medical settings. Some ideas of "binging" are very subjective, like when an anorexic person says their binge consisted of whole bags of carrots and celery... technically it isn't correct but the feelings are often the same as someone who suffers from Compulsive Over Eating, and so you will hear the term "binge" used this way in medical settings too. Of course it is the professional's job to educate the patient on the proper use of the term, and help them with their recovery. And CC isn't a medical setting by any means but it is the internet and you will see a lot of people misusing words, ALL the time. I'd say get used to it. "I'm saying it is now socially acceptable to use the words, but are often used in correlation to bad/ negative feelings/attitudes/actions." Yeah... that's pretty much how it works with binging and purging. A lot of time, binge is used to describe the feelings that go a long with over eating or losing control, instead of the actual amount of food consumed during said binge. I do, however, understand shadow's frustration. I have suffered from COE and Bulimia, and my binges were rarely less than 5000 cals, in one sitting no less.

How do you curl with a chi iron without getting weird bendy lines in your hair (I get what looks like paper folds... not pretty)... ? Is there a difference in pricing between the 1 inch and 2 inch chi? |

Eh, I go to other forums too and I have to agree this one is pretty warm and fuzzy. Maybe I am just upset it's not fulfilling my previously utopian concept of online calorie counting, and in typical broken-hearted, smashed dream style, am throwing a snotty, naked, whiny fit in the middle of the supermarket... err, lounge. Kinda. |

Schnooder, I've been on the internet for a long, long time. I am not going anywhere because there are idiots with keyboards and internet connections. Also, I am not the one being bullied. I am the one swooping in trying to comfort other people who get ripped apart, a: because I generally understand where they are coming from and b: because nobody deserves to be talked down to, I don't care who you are or what medium you use. Funny enough, my posts are the ones that get deleted because I keep using names (whoops). But the bully's posts are always inflammatory, by definition, and never deleted (I guess because she doesn't use screennames?). The bully that I am referring to has not posted in this thread. I haven't seen her post in the Lounge before either. Hk, I think the ignore button is good advice, but for the record, her posts always cross the line of "blunt". edit: also had to lol at all the people thinking it was them. :D People in the lounge are generally laid back and agreeable... and very entertaining. :) |

| Weight Loss | too much pressure? | Dec 04 2007 23:44 (UTC) |

I'm with you kiddiegirl. I found having a dieting buddy was actually detrimental to my weight loss - personally, I wouldn't do it again. Like one other poster said above, be honest. I would just let her know I wasn't interested in being accountable to anyone other than myself, which is true. It's your diet, and it's not her business if you don't want it to be. I know I would hate the extra pressure (I am plenty hard on myself), and it's just in my personality to completely rebel against what other people want me to do. Kiddiegirl, just tell her what you told us, sugar coat if you must. And good luck on your solo weight loss! ;) |

I think the body types in the Nike ads are attractive, as well as most athletes, and I do have to agree with the OP. My idea of beauty has changed, I don't think the catalog girls and runway chicks are anything special anymore. Most of them are starved so little they have no curves and bought their breasts with someone else's money. But then I also have to agree with cellulitedelight, I don't want to lose my curves either. I like the strong yet still feminine look. When it crosses over to manly or reverts to androgynous, it is suddenly much less attractive. |

| The Lounge | Christmas presents--what's the worst? | Nov 22 2007 20:23 (UTC) |

One year when I was around 10, my dad gave my mom a padded toilet seat for Christmas. When she opened it and was completely dumbfounded he was like, "You know, because you're in there so much." I didn't know whether to die laughing or cry for her... she was so insulted. Then another year all my parents gave me were pajama pants and a few shirts from Walmart. I'm not upset that they were from Walmart, that doesn't bother me. It's the fact that they sent my brother to Amsterdam so he could go get stoned and eat shrooms and ex, and didn't think about spending a little more time or thought on my presents. I felt really jipped. |

| Weight Loss | Red Bull-----10 calories :) | Nov 16 2007 19:15 (UTC) |

I used to drink a sugar free redbull everyday for months. It was great for me because I didn't like coffee at the time and it gave me energy to stay tuned into my classes which were extra early and extra boring. But the thing about energy drinks is they make you feel energized for a few hours and then you crash. Everyday after school I'd pass out for hours, then wake up, exercise, do homework and struggle to get back to sleep for a couple more hours before repeating the whole cycle again. After a while my sleep schedule was shot to hell, my energy was down, and my enthusiasm suffered. I'm not against redbull. But the amount of caffeine in one can IS outrageous, much stronger than one cup of coffee or one cup of tea. It also gave me heart palpitations, so be careful. I still drink the stuff, but only once in a while now. |

| Weight Loss | Are enemas a good idea? | Nov 15 2007 01:13 (UTC) |
16 |
Original Post by ssczm30: Is it a good idea for weight-loss? Will it improve my health? Should I do it? Yes, if you follow the directions exactly, and don't use them too often, enemas are perfectly safe. As for weight loss, it's not a good idea. Diet and exercise are your tools for weight loss, unless of course, you are carrying around 35 lbs of fecal matter (which you would know, by feeling like **** all the time.. ha). It will improve your health if you are not eliminating at least once a day. You should definitely have at least 1 BM a day. People who fast do not go to the bathroom (for #2) so they use enemas to eliminate. If you don't poop everyday, you are holding more toxins in your body than you should. And enemas, in that sense, will help cleanse and improve your overall health. It is up to you if you think you need enemas. But they are not weight loss tools, so keep that in mind.

| Vegetarian | The book "Skinny Bitch" | Nov 08 2007 05:05 (UTC) |

Was I the only one who was revolted by the hypocrisy of the authors? They advocate all kinds of strict guidelines, dishing out insults and other people's research to explain why you suck if you don't follow them, then said at the end "but don't be surprised if you see us stuffing our faces or chugging beer bongs". They said similar stuff throughout the book that gave the impression they don't live by their own standards. Then they admitted they wrote this book because they didn't want "real jobs". So, ultimately, they got rich for being catty, judgmental, and childish, while citing other people's hard work to back up insulting opinions. Skinny bitch reads like a lazy, foul-mouthed eighth grade book report. I couldn't get over how "pro-ana" the whole thing seemed either. I had an eating disorder, and I've talked to lots of girls with eating disorders, and these girls sound just like them. (Some anorexics use veganism as an attempt to disguise their habits or avoid eating in public, orthorexics feel superior because they fixate on eating only healthy foods, and almost all of the eating disordered people I've met cut others down just like the authors of Skinny Bitch did). When they advocated fasting for weight loss, I died a little inside. Some parts of the book were funny. A few lines even made me chuckle. But by the end of the book, their commentary was more annoying and much less entertaining - stupid things like "ugh" and "that just makes us sick" placed after research that almost made them sound credible. This book is overrated. |

At first I was proud, then after studying the pics side by side, I started to question how different I actually am. I started telling myself it was the angle, close-up, etc. And then I started noticing all the things that were the same (clothing type, torso shape, calf shape) and my mind just blurred. Now it's hard to see much difference at all. Maybe I will dig up that old bathing suit just to see. jvermaes - you are exactly right about being our own worst critics. I think that's what's happening here. Thanks all for the bravo's/congrats and complements. *blush* |

jenmc - there IS something wrong, bulimia is a nervous/anxiety disorder (hence, Bulimia Nervosa). And trust me, it feels very different to throw up when your body needs to vs. when it is self-induced. I could write volumes on it and why people do it, and miss it, and you would still not understand completely unless you had been there.
