@Monkey!  Hey I love the twilight series too!  My husband and I are obsessed!(I hate to admit!)

I also do kickboxing.  Isn't is amazing!  It kicks my butt! I have a heart rate moniter and I burn up to 800 in an hour class and 1200 in an hour and half class.

Hi everyone!  Finally a good group I can join!

Current Weight 195.8
Scale stepper or Judge by clothing BOTH!
Amount of weight you wish to lose I think 25 pounds by Christmas is do-able!
How often do you want to weight-in? Weekly!

Goal by Christmas? to weight 170 pounds and be a size 8 or 10 (currently a size 12/14)
What do you do to workout? Oye, my problem is eating.  I workout 6 days a week but always ruin my great workout by eating badly!  I LOVE food.  My goal is going to be to eat clean (natural foods, no fake stuff or processed) and keep my calories to 1200 on non-workout days and 1500 on workout days (approved by my doctor).

I am trying to lose 2 pounds per week!  BUT since I'll be in Hawaii (YAY!) from the 25th until October 12th, I can't weigh in for awhile.

This week's goals:

continue 300 minutes of cardio week (120 of those minutes trying for kickboxing!)

continue 2 or more full body muscle workouts per week.

be 193 before getting on the plane this Friday!

What day are we weighing in???

Weight Loss Help with friend not eating Sep 20 2009

I thought I remembered seeing something on here that listed the heart needs 300 calories a day, the brain needs 200, etc.  I thought that was really interesting.  Maybe you can reference that in one of your conversations...?

Good luck!  If people are telling her she looks good from her weight loss it might be hard to try to get through!

Weight Loss Calorie deficit through diet vs exercise Aug 11 2009

I am not an expert but I think they say that diet is the most effective way to lose weight.  You are what you eat.  You need to get your diet right first and then you can add in excersize as a booster.  I think in terms of exercise a good mix of cardio and weight training might be best.

For me I personally cannot lose weight without excersize.  I need to eat right to maintain my weight and then exercise helps me drop some weight.  BUT if I eat badly and still excersise then I GAIN weight.  So I think how you eat is still very important.

That is COMPLETELY their fault.  Do not spen any of your money to fix their mistake.  You need to tell them that they need to call every single David's Bridal store near you to find the dress in the store or ship it overnight.  It can be done.    Even if it needs to be a sample dress.  Some are not that badly messed up.  Talk to the manager and tell them the salesperson did not tell you that fact and they need to fix it.  Unbelievable.  How can they be in the wedding business (the most important day of peoples lives) and have no customer service?

Fitness HONESTLY! OUTTER THIGH FAT!!! what to do?! Apr 15 2009
16:50 (UTC)

I think there are a few that target your outer thighs.  One is squats with your feet together instead of shoulder width apart.  I think this is supposed to work your outer thighs, at least it does for me unless I'm doing it wrong.

The other kick @ss one is where you lay on your right side with your legs straigt.  then you put a 5-10 pound weight in your right hand laying over your thigh, then lift your leg for a bunch of reps.  then switch sides.

I think after doing that I will lift my knee and then put it straigt again, so it looks like I am pulling my knee into my chest and then putting it straight back down again.

Sorry, they are hard to explain but they work!

Fitness Elliptical vs Treadmill Apr 12 2009

I bought a heart rate monitor and it says that in half an hour on the elliptical I burn about 290 calories, while 30 minutes on the treadmill i burn over 400.  Your heart rate is probably going to be higher on the treadmill because it is high impact and you have to work harder to move on it than the elliptical.

Some people really like the elliptical.  I can't run every day because it starts to hurt my knees and ankles so I use the elliptical on my days I list weights and run on days without weights.

I went to a personal trainer once and they ONLY had treadmills.  She said she would rather I walk very fast at a high incline than use an elliptical.

I think it depends on your body.  I think you can lose just as much weight on the elliptical, but you might just have to work harder.  my heart rate monitor says my calories are lower than the machine says.  I'm 195 lbs and 5'4.

What are your stats and how long are you on the elliptical?

(And strength training burns a lot of calories too , by the way!)  My heart rate monitor says I burn about 300 calories in just my strength trainning sessions!

The Lounge So called "Brown Fat" may hold a key to weightloss Apr 09 2009

Hmm, going off of the theories above then wouldn't it make sense for people who run in the cold?  They are running in the cold and they body is working out and working hard to keep them warm?  So maybe people who run out in the fall and spring weather?

Comment for Pgeorgian's comment below:

don't you think geography (or geographic heritage) would have a role?  if brown fat is expended in keeping warm, it would make sense that people in colder climates need and use more.

might explain anomalies like people from the far north who remain healthy in spite of eating high-fat, low carb diets for generations (at least until processed junk food arrives in town).

and if your people are from the tropics, the need to generate heat as an infant should be negligible.  and look at the obesity rates in the south pacific (which existed prior to processed junk food).

I don't think this is the case.  I'm from chicago where it is cold 9 months a year and I think we have a reallly high obese rate.  People in warmer places are usually thinner aren't they?  Like Cali, Fl, and AZ, right?  anyways just a thought.  Being in cold all year long does not make you lose weight or we'd all be skinny from 9 months of winter!   :)

There are two that are actually pretty low in cals.

One is the cafe signature salad.  Pretty basic.  Lettuce, onions, tomatoes and really yummy vinnagrette for only around 200.

And the other is the one with the dried cherries and the pears, walnuts and gorgonzola cheese.  That one has around 400-500 calories I think including the dressing.  It's easy to ask for the dressing and cheese on the side to cut more calories if you want but I dont mind the calories for this one it is sooo good.

Recipes How to cook steel-cut oats Apr 04 2009

Steel cut oats are the healthiest oats.  I think they say that old fashioned oats cuts off some of the outside layer to make them cook faster and instant removes and processes them even more.  Something like that.

I buy mine at my local fruit market or whole foods.

They aren't flavored and I dont think you can microwave them...maybe im wrong.

the ones i buy are 150 calories per serving.  1 and a half cups water to 1/4 cups oatmeal.  The proportions change as you up the servings.   4 servings needs only 4 cups of water and 1 cup of oats.  They're really easy to make, just boil water pour in the oats and let simmer until tender or 20-30 mintues.  I make a big pot and reheat in the microwave in the mornings at work.

I like adding cinnamon, Brown sugar, nuts, dried cranberries, bananas, not in that order but anything really.  They are so filling and have more bite than instant so the texture feels like your eating an actual meal.  yumm.

Fitness late workouts? what should I eat? Apr 03 2009

Thanks!  I think I'll try adding to my snack before my workout.  I typically eat steel cut oats for bfast, a salad with chicken and whole grain roll, or sandwich, for lunch.  Should I eat something with protein as my snack?  I'm alway really bad at picking out healthy snacks.

Pavlovcat - Good idea about eating as soon as I get home.  I never thought of it because my workouts are pretty intense and I'm a hot mess when I get home and just want to shower.  I'll start doing that now so at least I can eat around 7:30-8, instead of 8-8:30.  Lots of protein and eggies afterwards?  (I cant eat carbs at night, for some reason they keep me awake and upset my stomach).

I'll also try eating a bigger lunch to distribute my calories better.  Maybe 250 bfast, 150 snack, 500 lunch, 250 snack, then 350 dinner or something like that.

Recipes Can anyone give me ideas for yummy low cal desserts.... Mar 23 2009

You could make so many of them!  I depends on how many caloried you want to have for dessert.

I like the 60 calorie packs of pudding.  You can put one container of vanilla in a bowl, add half a banana cut up and then a little dab of cool whip and sprinkle of cinnamon for around 115 calories.

Vanilla pudding pack with a sprinkle of cinnamon.

Or you could make a packet of sugar free strawberry jello (make according to directions) and cut up 2 bananas in it before you refrigerate.  I think that makes 50 calories per serving.  Or the jello by itself is only 10 calories per serving.

I think if you make the chocolate pudding (sugar free) from scratch then it has about the same number of calories but it tastes so much differant than the packs!

Maybe chocolate pudding with some crushed graham crackers mixed in or layers on the bottom and whip on top kind of like a pudding pie?  Never did this one yet.

You could just add some cool whip to regular pudding too!

Also - I like to eat frozen cool whip by the spoonful sometimes.  :) tastes like ice cream.

I like fresh cut apples with cinnamon and brown suger sprinkled over top.  Kind of a fresh and crispy apple pie filling.

I think there are some weightwatchers or skinny cow ice cream desserts that are between 100 and 200 calories too.

I really like taking 2 reduced fat graham pieces (1 big sheet in half) and putting cool ship in the middle and freezing it to make little ice cream sandwiches.  I even flavor the cool whip sometimes with sugar free chocolate syrup and mint extract to make it taste like mint chocolate ice cream.  Those are really good!

I know this original post is old but I make this all the time!  I never really measured it out though...

I think I use about 3 tablespoons of chocolate cake mix from a box, then add 1 tablespoon of diet coke.  I don't know if this is exact or not.  I kind of ends up looking like brownie batter.  Then I microwave it for 1 minute and a half.

Once it's cooled I mix a bit of redi whip with sugar free chocolate syrup for topping.  SOOOO Good!

Weight Loss Breakfast, my new enemy! Jan 18 2009

If it makes you feel gross then skip it.  I normally skip breakfast but eat a snack around 10:00 of oatmeal, fruit, etc. If your set on breakfast why not try something small?  Like a bar, a piece of fruit, yogurt, or some granola cereal with skim milk, maybe drink a small naked fruit drink or a fruit smoothie?  Anything heavy would make me feel sick all day.

It's your body and not everyone works the same.  It isn't proven that eating breakfast boosts metabolism or anything.  I personally am not hungry in the morning, so I don't eat or else I feel sick.  I dont think the rules apply to eating breakfast if your stomach cant handle it :)  Im no expert, but no one is going to force feed you breakfast.

I go through binge eating sometimes and then try to overcompensate by eating less, etc.

Try to figure out why you are in the cycle first.  Why do you feel bad when you binge, why are you really binging?  Why are you starving yourself on other days? (I know it doesnt seem like you are, but you really are).

I struggle with the same issues and maybe shouldnt even be the one to try to help because I'm not completely 100% healthy yet with my eating habits.  Try to ask yourself if you are REALLY hungry.  If you aren't then dont eat, try to stay busy, or chew gum.  If you are hungry then drinka glass of water, if your still hungry then you are REALLY hungry and you need to eat.  Your body doesn't tell you its hungry for no reason.

Your body cant :make up calories" if doesnt count if you eat 700 calories one day and then 2000 the next.  your body runs DAILY, not weekly.

Maybe before getting "professional" counseling or anything you should see if your mom would let you see a nutritionist, or a dietition to tell you what you should be eating and what will happen if you dont eat healthy? If your body isn't at a deficiency for something I think it will be less likely to have cravings.  I usually stuff myself when Im really hungry after work and dont have time for a small snack and then gorge myself because I am so hungry!

Sorry I cant help more!  Maybe you should stop weighting yourself???  A lot of people actually lose weight when they stop because they are more relaxed and food and calories are not on their mind every 5 mintues...

Fitness Help me develop a new plan?!!! Fat loss or muscle gain? Jan 07 2009
05:26 (UTC)

Okay so I dont need to do cardio just for cadio sake?  i.e treadmill for an hour etc? Is the main benefit of cardio to help my heart then instead of losing weight?

I think I'm going to try sprints for (6.5 on treadmill) 2 minutes with a cool down (3.5-4 on treadmill) for another 2-5 minutes on and off for 20-30 minutes, 3 times a week and weight lifting (intense) 3 days a week, and eating 1500-1600 calories a day.  I think this encompasses everything that eveyone has suggested!

Correct me if you think this may not be the best way!  I want to lose fat and up muscles and be strong and not "skinny fat" or bony!

Thanks for your help!

On another note if anyone knows of a heart rate monitor brand and model that works well next to gym equipment without getting all screwy can you let me know!?

thankSs!!!!!!!

It is even harder to eat more calories than to cut them!  I don't count calories anymore I just eat healthy things until I am not hungry anymore whenever I am hungry.  But I tried logging them a few times lately and it does still say too few.  So my new goal is to eat MORE and to keep working out as I am now!  It shouldnt be hard to eat more food, but it is if I dont think about it.

I have been trying to eat more lately and have upped my wieght training.  It's hard for me to eat that many calories because I have been trying to eat a lot of fruits, veggies and protein.  But i need to add in more protein and more grains and fat  i think.  So basically just keep being healthy and it should all fall into place.

I just don't know how often to do cardio or how often to work on muscles.

Thanks!  I really do try to eat more but sometimes its hard when you are eating really healthy foods.  I'm trying to add in some more grains and healthy fats too.

I just get confused because people say cardio doesnt really even help you, it only makes you lose muscle or something.

I have started doing more weights and can feel the results more (albeit under a layer of fat! but theyre there!)

So keep up with muscles but how much cardio should I do?  I don't need a quick fix or anything but I would like to see more results.

Maybe I'll look into this...Tony Venutos Burn the Fat, Feed the Muscle.

Wow, littleshellys!  Way to give her anxiety tonight!  lol jk!  I know your only looking out!  Although my heart fluttered a little after reading that!  Smile

I had the same symptoms awhile back after stesses (full time school, full time work, mother moving away, family problems, money problems the list goes on and on!)

Actually i always get episodes the day AFTER the stress leaves.  wierd.  Doctor took tests, make me wear a holter and prescribed pills to help.  It was panic/anxiety attacks (i forget which one).  This sounds stupid but try heavy deep breathing and taking a warm bath, slow music, yoga breathing, poses etc.

If nothing helps I take some ativan prescribed from the doctor.  I normally have anxiety all day and only feel it at night because during the day your running around and up and about and do not notice it.  Try making time for yourself to relax during the day too so your body doesnt crash at night.  Thats toobad you cant work out, that is really my best relief.

Try listening to your ipod when you try to go to sleep so you don't hear your heart, detach yourself and sometimes i sleep with a pillow on my chest for the chest tightness from anxiety.

I also feel tightness in my throught when it gets real bad.  oh and try not to eat right before bed, i find it makes it worse.

(these are only my opinions! I am FAR from a doctor!  so only listen at your own risk!)

I know what you mean.  I've lost 68 pounds in the past year and a half and everytime I go to eat with friends or family I notice them watching me to see if I actually eat my food.  (There is no reason for them to question me!) I've also made a note to myself never to go to the bathroom within a few hours after eating because someone once made a comment after going to the bathroom after eating that now they understand how I lost so much weight.  Not a funny joke.  It's really sad that the people around you don't believe in you enough that you have the will power to lose weight the healthy way.

It's hard work and for people to say or think I have some sort of eating disorder really offends me.  Its really frustrating!

Hi! Is it too late to join?

I started CC awhile ago really gung ho and have been slacking a lot more so I've only been losing around a pound a week now.  I would love to lose 30 more pounds by christmas!

The hardest part for me right now is that I CANNOT lose any weight until after October 4th.  Thats our wedding day and my seamstress said if I lose any more weight my dress will fall off!  It's actually starting to get hard NOT to lose weight.  I think I have made a lifestyle change and that in itself (even without me trying) helps me to lose weight.

My boss is one of those people that thinks they are fat and like being miserable and wants everyone else to be fat and miserable with them.  On days that I come in looking and feeling great in an escpecially skinny outfit (ive lost 50 pounds in a year) she always make remarks like "You're so skinny, I hate you", or my favorite is "I'm going to tie you down and force feed you donuts"

I feel like screaming at her.  It is NOT easy.  I work my as* off to lose weight.  It is soo hard.  I work out EVERY day, for at least .5 miles, or else take a kickboxing class, or play soccer.  I have started a vegan lifestyle (not to lose weight) and do not eay any dairy, meat, fat, fried food, fast food, pop, refined sugar, caffiene.  Pretty much veggies, fruits, wheat, grains, tofu, soy, and vitamins.  AND lots and lots of water.  Maybe you should workout and stop eating pizza hut for lunch everyday and you would see results too! (sorry for my rant!)

IT is a very hard lifestyle to get used to.  But when I put on my fat pants from last year it is SOOO worth it.  I feel so much healthier and have solved a lot of health problems with my new lifestyle.

Okay Shazzi - It looks like everyone here feels like lecturing you but not actually giving you any help.

Eat a bunch of small meals a day to bring up your metabolism.  I try to aim for around 300 calories per meal, and 150 calories per snack.  Eat breakfast, an in between snack, lunch, afternoon snack, and dinner. Eat a lot of fruits and vegetables, cut our white bread and eat some whole grain (like whole grain bread, oatmeal, bran cereal, brown rice), eat protein, chicken, tofu, yogurt, skim milk and be sure to drink at least 8 cups of water! Stop drinking pop, and eating fast food.

You can also try and look up under the food section of this website and look up low calorie foods/snacks.  Like 60 calorie pudding and 100 calorie popcorn.  Also look through the forums about healthy dieting and see what else people have had to say.

Be sure to excercise at least 4 times a week, but try to do something fun!  You're young, so go play a game of volleyball/softball/swimming,

The secret to losing weight is cutting calories and upping your excercise.

If you choose to eat so few calories at least do yourself one favor and take a multivitamin.

If you only eat 400 calories a day you willl lose weight quickly at first, but then your body will get used to it and burn less calories.  Your body will get used to eating only 400 calories and if you eat anything over that you will gain weight!  It is really bad for you and will mess up your metabolism.  It will take a long time for you to get your metabolism normal again after that.  So eat healthy foods, and make good choices.  remember you want to lose weight to feel better about yourself, so just start feeling better about yourself now!

And your friend seems like a real b. ditch her and find some real friends.

YES!  I thought it was just me!  I've only been noticing the numbers the past few months since i've been very good about my diet and have been weighting myself more.  Today I gained 3 pounds since last night.  I'm due for my period in a few days.  I'll stay at this weight for another 3 or 4 days and then will drop back down to normal.  Then that week i'll drop another few pounds.  It totally freaked me out the first time i noticed it.

It is hard though because it seems like once my weight starts getting normal again and i start losing normally, its that time of the month AGAIN and I have to go through the whole deal all over agin!  UGH!

And I am always STARVING the week before my period.  The week during my period i have absolutely no appetite and am afraid to eat normal foods, due to the "consequences".  Maybe this is why i lose more weight lol.  tmi, i know.
