Wow!  Ya'll are all super energetic today.  I ran for about 30 minutes and walked about 30 minutes.  I shaved another 30 seconds off my 1.5 mile time so I'm feeling pretty good Cool

I like the chocolate banana one too!  It's got a fair amount of calories so I tend to think of it as a "mini" meal instead of a snack.

In Atlanta we have a specialty running shoe store (big peach running)--I'm not sure if you have something similar in your area but please look around.  Any way, they not only measure your feet, they put you on a treadmill to see how your stride works with a shoe and do a weight imprint of how you stand in the shoe.  For those who have no problem finding workout shoes, this probably sounds like overkill.  For those, like me, who have a lot of fit problems (overpronation and weak ankles) they are wonderful!

Since getting my new "wonder" shoes, I've been able to run longer and faster--without pain in my ankles and knees.

The lose/loose thing really bugs me.  The only thing that keeps me from going nuts is thinking about what the writer intended and what they are actually saying.  I went to a basketball game recently where the cheerleaders (led by their English teacher!) had created a poster stating that the other team would "loose".  I kept picturing the other team all relaxed and jello like...

When I was off sugar, I had the same problem.  I KNEW if I had just one extra gram of sugar it would be down the slippery slope again.  At the time, I would have considered washing the beans and then decided against, "just in case".

I have since become much more accepting of sugar and rely more on the calorie count versus the count of any one substance.  Moderation works for me now.

Congrats to everyone for their success ths week :)

I've had the same problem with vitamins.  I used to take one for "active" people and I started cutting them in half--that helped.  Now I take a regular one but sometimes skip a day.  I still get a little nauseous but it's not nearly as bad.

Cati83--I'm glad you're back!  I admit I was worried that we lost you and then who would keep us motivated??  I totally understand the crazy busy comment--I think I might even be willing to settle into the January "blahs" (with lots of exercise and eating well, of course!).  I need a few weeks of downtime :)

1/07 - 164.5

1/08 - 148.8

That's 15lbs!  I've never looked at it this way and now I feel much better about the last year.  I started CC in September and it has been such a help!  It keeps me from undereating and overeating and has motivated me to keep working out.

1/4 weigh in:  148.8.  It's so exciting to finally see a little loss!  The new F6 is really helping me to push myself at the gym.  Today I'm going to try taking  it outside on an "easy" jog.

Happy New Year everyone!

After making fudge, pecan pie, cookies and brownies for my family (my sister got the job of real cooking!) my weight is...

Still 149.2!  Woohoo.

It would have been nice to lose but I'm happy just to maintain after this week.  I've been helped along by a wonderful gift from my mother-in-law--a Polar F6.  I love this little tool :)  I had to rush to the gym on Christmas just to try it out.

I have no pointers on the calories but I know I avoided the sweet potato until I went on South Beach and I had the one at TX Roadhouse--It is delicious and addicting!  I just have butter--I have no idea why they always want to put marshmallows and sugar on a perfectly tasty sweet potato :)

Strawberry--you are sooo lucky!!  Short is the way to go.  I thought I would be really tall when I was 11--I was already 5'1 and 3/4s.  Taller than most.  Then I stopped growing.  It meant I was no longer the faster runner but I got to wear all the high heels I wanted.  Also, I never feel short.  For some reason I feel about 5'6" and am shocked when I see myself with my husband in a reflection (he's more than a foot taller than me).

You may still grow some but even at 5'1" you're taller than your mom :)

Embrace who you are--that's all that really matters.

Meganwitt:  I'm glad to know I'm not alone.  I used to get hungry in the evenings (tv time!) but now I'm trying to do pushups/crunches during commercials.  It's helping.  It's hard to want a snack when your tummy's recovering from crunches :)

Hopefully, together we can cross the dreaded threshold :)

Fitness How Can I Train To Run 1.5 Mile In Under 10:55 Min? Nov 30 2007
22:12 (UTC)
1

It is cool that someone else is doing this at the same time!  My first (about a week and a half ago) 1.5 mile run was about 19 min.  Scary!  I'm slightly better but still working on it.

First, I did basic training for the AF about 10 years ago.  They will get you up to the level you need to be.  You'll do "PT" basically every day and that will include the run and all sorts of exercises.  I was in rotten shape when I got to basic (never been a runner and I had a 2nd degree sunburn for the weeks prior and could barely leave my apt).  I survived it.  Best basic training advice:  It only lasts 6 weeks (assuming you do everything they tell you).  You will survive!  The AF was pretty cool and worth the effort.  Also, being in better shape when you get there will help :)

I've been out of the AF for a while and want to join the Reserve.  That means getting my running speed up.  I'm doing a mini-eval tomorrow on the run/pushups and situps.  To prepare, I'm doing cardio (alternating running/elliptical/hiking) 5/6 times a week and 40 situps/30 pushups a night.  I don't yet know if it'll work but that's the plan.

Anyway, good luck with basic and the AF!

Yea Friday!  I'm at 150.2 today--almost back to that pre-Thanksgiving number.

This next pound should be tricky.  Does anyone else have a difficult threshold number?  I always seem to have trouble getting past the 150 mark--either lose motivation or crazy life events get in the way.  Hopefully posting here will give me the motivation to break into the "140s".

Good luck this week everyone!

Weight Loss Running- Losing inches? Nov 28 2007

This is great news and good motivation!  I just started running too and I really need to lose about an inch and a half from my waist.  I guess I'll keep running and see what the results are.

Thanksgiving was gooood!  We had an early Thanksgiving over in Alabama and then came back home to do it again.  Yummy!  I really upped my activity level and hope that keeps the weight at bay but I am not stepping on that scale until Wednesday :)

Cati-you can leave me at 151 for now.  Just pretend I was brave enough to get on that scale today!

I ran the Thanksgiving 5K (Relay for Life fundraiser) yesterday and blew my last year's time away (down by 12 minutes!).  Of course, I'm still super slow at 38 minutes but for a shorty who can't run I'm happy with the results.  I'm already training for the next one and am optimistic that I can bring that time down.

Congrats to everyone who lost this week!

Did I say run?  Hmmm...how about run 2-3 minutes, walk 2 minutes, repeat.  I did one last spring and I was about 10 lbs heavier.  I hope to do a little better this year.  It's a fund raiser for Relay for Life so it's in a good cause!  I'm just trying to get better everytime.  I don't know about everyone else but I loved running until I was about 10 and everyone grew legs about 6 inches longer than mine.  Since then it's a love/hate relationship with running.

I may have to schedule a few extra hikes this week--oh, and I have a 5K on Turkey day.  That should get me back on track!

Weight Loss 5'2" club? Nov 05 2007

I'm so glad there's a 5'2" club!  I was intensely jealous of the 5'3"s ;)  Right now, 123 sounds unreal.  It's the goal that the calculator gave me and it's certainly motivating.  I wouldn't want to go any lower.  I remember being 116 and feeling invisible because I was so small.

Foods I love coca cola Oct 10 2007
00:31 (UTC)

I can totally relate--I always hated diet coke of any kind and have drunk "the real thing" literally since I was in diapers.  When I first decided to cut back on cokes, I limited myself to one coke (with a candy bar chaser) every Saturday.  I didn't have any other sweets all week.  It really did the trick.  Whenever I thought about breaking down, I would just think--it's only x number of days, I can make.

Another strategy (the Saturday one worked about 2 years before I fell off the wagon) was to just quit all sodas.  That worked for 3 years (go me!)

After falling off the wagon, I experimented with Coke Zero and it's much more tolerable than Diet Coke.  It's not the real thing but it's ok.

Currently, I'm back to just limiting cokes.  They are my one real vice and it's hard to give them up Wink
