The Lounge Is it just me, or does it seem like people at gyms are becoming more and more un-social?? Jun 11 2009

Jessicab, glad to know I'm not the only one who feels this way...... was starting to think I was alone on this.. I agree that if you're in the middle of a vigorous workout then chatting is a no-no, but I didn't mean to that extreme, I just meant people being a little more socially involved in general, thats all

Ok, so I'm coming to the conclusion that its just me....

Conclusion: I'll mind my own business when going to the gym, and wait for the "appropriate" time and place to engage in social endeavors. I'll just have to live with the fact that this is the way our society operates these days.  I have lost over 50 lbs., and I didn't have to seclude myself in my own little bubble to do it.  I'm not bothered by it, I just think its sad, but will respect your views and opinions on this.

Amethystgirl,

You have no control over sleeping, our body needs that, you dont get a choice on that.  If I died 10 yrs ago I wouldn't be able to meet anyone either, period.  What I'm saying is that you make a conscious choice of not talking to people under certain circumstances.

Wow, I seem to have struck a nerve with a lot of you on this one.... just goes to show how much we care about being social.  I understand that the gym, grocery store, banks , etc. are places where you might not care to talk to anyone but have you stopped for a moment to think that you could've passed up an opportunity to meet a really good friend?  Most of you say that there's a time and place for these kinds of things but come on, some of the best things come from where you least expect them.

Wow, I didn't think the thread was going to get this many posts!! Interesting development throughout the thread and lots of drama as well! Everybody's getting bent out of shape.  I too used to think less of overweight people (not proud of it) until I myself became overweight.

Its all fun and games until you find yourself in the same boat.

Anyways, interesting comments, keep them coming.

Hi Erica,

Your body needs at least 1200 calories a day to lose weight the healthy way.  Sounds to me like your doing your part in exercising so just do the math and take it slow.  Peanut butter definitely helps, maybe an extra slice of toast in the morning with your breakfast, little things like that.  Your on the right track, just add a couple of healthy snacks/foods here and there throughout the day.

Hi,

Yes, jennpz89 is right.  Weight varies a lot from person to person.  One thing that you could do is take a slightly smaller pair of jeans that barely fit and keep trying them on every couple of days.  They should begin to fit if you follow the program.  Just stick to it, you'll see results soon!!
