Recipes Favorite Hungry-Girl.com Recipe? May 08 2008

I just bought my hungry girl cookbook at Target last night and my favorite recipes are any of the shakes.  I tried her version of a double chocolate chip frap and it was better than Starbucks- theres a recipe similar in the cookbook but its the not same one I used from one of her newsletters.  I have a friend who swears by her capn' crunch shake too (I think Carl's Jr. sells the original- I'm not sure bc I live on the east coast) and that recipe is on the website.  And she has a pina colada recipe that uses sugar free ice cream and sugar free torani and its really good too (this is in the cookbook!) I added some parrot bay to my batch and it was amazing and less sinful than the ones you get at a restaurant.  Enjoy your new purchase- I know I'm enjoying mine!

Hi Kim and Jody- I have found that making friends and keeping touch with them has kept me coming back to this website.  I've never had a problem with finding inspiration and motivation from others and everyone on here supports one another.  And journaling is a nice way to keep track of things too.  Good luck with your goals! -Lei

Weight Loss Does the Slim Fast Diet work? Mar 07 2008

I second ericka about slimfast.  I drink them for lunch and usually bring veggies or fruit with me to round out the meal.  I don't have much of a lunch break because I cram in homework time during then so I don't have time to stand in line to use the microwaves at work and eating at the company cafe is costly.  They're not the best nutrition wise and they're very high in sugar but if you're in a pinch you can substitute a meal for one (except breakfast! I would definitely eat something substantial for breakfast.) I don't know if I could count my weight loss sucess on using them alone but they're fast and easy and you don't have to cook them (I'm such a lazy bum!) The chocolate shakes tastes the best and the strawberry is awful.   I've been losing about 3 lbs a week but I have a lot more weight to lose than you do (50+).  Do you have any dinner companies where you live- they're like big kitchens where you can prepare meals for the week/month.  We have a bunch here in MD but I don't think they're chains.  This might be a good option if you're short on time but want to have freshly prepared meals premade.  But back to your original question- I've been using them but I don't think they're making me lose weight- they curb my chocolate cravings though!

Mmm all your suggestions sound good!  I went on the website earlier today and they were very vague about light options (no calorie listings so it makes me wonder) I'll probably stick with the seafood or chicken- it depends on my mood tomorrow.  Well wish me luck that I don't go overboard (I have a big birthday party to go to Saturday so these next couple of days are going to be murder on my diet) Thanks everyone!

Hi- I'm adding you to my list if you don't mind.  I'm on here numerous times during the day and I would be more than happy to give you help or motivation if you need it. I've struggled with my weight for years but now that I'm in college and working full time, my weight has only gotten worse.  We can definitely get through this together!

Quite honestly she's cheating herself because she's going to gain that weight back and then some. I wouldn't be bothered by it too much because you are going to be able to keep the weight you lost and maintain it as long as you keep up your routine. I think your the "bigger loser" (and I mean that as in terms of your weight loss challenge) because eventually her body is going to go into starvation mode and she won't be losing as fast as she was before, whereas you have been losing steadily. Keep up the good work and don't let her get to you.
The Lounge Valentines Day. Feb 12 2008

I thought I'd share my V-day idea with those who are still scrambling to think of something. Since money is tight with me as I'm recovering from buying my textbooks for this semester >:( I bought a pack of those little valentine's day cards that you hand out in elementary school. I picked up these goofy cards from Target in the dollar section of cats and dogs dressed up with sunglasses and feather boas. On each note I wrote lyrics to our song "Better Together" by Jack Johnson and little sentiments about how much I adore him. I'm going to his house thursday afternoon before he gets home from work and scattering them throughout his house (in plain view of course or else he'll be finding valentines until the summer!) I numbered each card so he has to find them in order and when he finds the last card his favorite treat - reese's pieces brownies - will be waiting for him. 6 bucks- it beats the $300 watch I bought him our first V-day together which he busted a few months later. For those who have sweetie pies have a nice V-day and for those who do not- significant others are total pain in the asses 364 days of the year, enjoy your freedom ;)
The Lounge Camping in PA, MD, VA and WV Feb 11 2008

Cunningham Falls and Elk Neck seemed really nice- I'm not trying to be too picky it's just that one time I went "camping" at a camp resort outside of Lancaster a few years ago and they had a pool, mini putt putt, and lake and it was so crowded! I remember standing in line in the bath house to take a shower and thought this is not camping.  I want to be out in the middle of nowhere with mountain lions and grizzly bears (like theres mountain lions and grizzly bears here in MD) JK- I just want to get away from Bmore for the weekend to a place that is somewhat remote but where there is plenty of things to see and explore- bf was an eagle scout in high school so he would enjoy lots of exploration too.  Thanks for the suggestions so far!

Don't worry I had no idea what a yurt was until last night when I was looking at different campgrounds: http://www.flickr.com/photos/geckonia/3611920 38/

It's basically a big circular tent.

The Lounge public speaking required to get into medical school? Feb 05 2008

I think every undergrad school requires some type of communication course whether it be interpersonal communication or public speaking.  I'm a nursing major and I had to take public speaking as a required course for my BS.  It wouldn't hurt to take it since it is an elective course.  Your advisor or guidance counselor would know more about that so you may want to ask them. Hope this helps!

I decided at the last minute last night to go out and I ended up at a tapas bar where I indulged in little deep fried morsels of sin and mojitos- I don't even want to look at the scale this morning...but I will out of curiosity...

I usually pick up the low fat apple bars and the Clif kid's z bars- these are the best! They're 120 calories and really hit the spot when you have a chocolate craving (which I suffer from on a daily basis). The chocolate chip and fudge brownie are my 2 favorite flavors.
Foods Light Flat Out Wraps, How do you make yours? Oct 13 2007

I bought a bag of the italian wraps a month ago and I could not even finish them. I had the same problem with the taste and the texture- it felt almost chalky in my mouth. I made quesadillas with mine. Try it with turkey, shredded cheddar cheese, slices of granny smith apples, and honey mustard. If you spray a little pam on each side and stick it in the oven at 400 degrees for a couple of minutes the outside gets nice and crunchy and the cheese melts. It's really good and makes a pretty healthy snack since there's no calories in pam. I also used precooked chicken strips, lettuce, tomatoes and carrots and drizzled low fat caesar dressing to make a chicken caesar wrap. You could also cut up the wraps and "fry" them just like the way I cooked the quesadilla and dip the pieces in hummus. I wasn't crazy about them and now use glutton free flour tortillas which are 100 calories. Hope this helps!

I normally drink tea without adding anything but this one is so good I don't think you need to sweeten it. It would probably be fantastic with a little milk and honey though. I got it at Safeway so I'm not sure if you have one around where you live.
Weight Loss Best time to weigh yourself? Oct 12 2007

I weigh myself in the morning right before I get in the shower since I usually get ready at the same time everyday. I've noticed that if I weigh myself throughout the day, my weight fluctuates. My highest weight of the day tends to be at night before I go to bed.
Motivation Weekends Sep 25 2007
16:18 (UTC)
I double up on exercise on Saturdays because I know I'm going to end up eating something I shouldn't. I normally work out for an hour each day during the week so I just do an extra hour to compensate for whatever happens that day. That way I don't feel deprived of things that I love (like sweets or drinks) and I don't feel so guilty eating them (in moderation of course). But I normally stick to my diet during the rest of the week.  Saturday is my sin day!

Thanks! All your input was extremely helpful! I figured my percentages weren't right.  I'm definitely going to work on eating more veggies and trying to get my fat percentage up (by eating good fats of course!)
Weight Loss College Students...what do you do? Sep 20 2007

My freshman year when I was soo worried about the freshman 15, I would keep a bag filled with gym clothes, a towel, a pair of sneakers, socks and a bottle of water in my car just in case I had some extra time before classes or in between.  I had a flaky teacher who would practically cancel class every other week so that gave me an hour and a half to get a little cardio in.  I don't know when your classes are during the day, but if its in the morning- maybe you can leave your house about an hour earlier and hit the gym before your classes start or if your classes are later maybe stay at school a little longer and go to the gym then.  But I'm practical and I'm sure you are too and I know its hard to do either of these ideas.  I just started getting back to working out when I realized how much weight I've gain in the past couple of years.  Now I focus a lot of my time working out on the weekends (Fri, Sat, and Sun) and I'm trying to squeeze in workouts during the week (Attempting to get up at 5 to jog on the treadmill but thats nearly impossible!) You could try studying (if it's just going over notes or your text book) while on the treadmill or stationary bike if you can multi-task. Hope this helped a bit...good luck!
