Thanks, Sara for the reminder.

Well, my maintenance 12-week goal is going very well.  I drink more than enough water every day.  I'm not doing so well on recording my calories though, and that's something I need to get on.  I think my problem is that lately I haven't been cooking as much so I've been ordering fast food more often than not, but because I make complicated special orders to make the food healthier it makes it hard to add the calories.  No excuse.  I definitely need to make the food more often, then it's not a problem to know exactly what I'm eating.

Which healthy food do you love and which do you hate ?

I love eating my Multi-Grain Cheerios every morning with Skim Milk. <3 It's a great way to always start my morning.

I hate drinking Green Tea at night. =( So good but so horrid.

I used to hate green tea, but then I found out I was steeping it all wrong and it was destroying the flavor and damaging its health value.  May I ask, how are you brewing the green tea?  And what kind of green tea is it?

Loves:  My very favorite healthy treat is low fat cottage or ricotta cheese with pomegranate seeds.  It gives you good protein, little fat, and a little natural sugar.  It's WONDERFUL after a workout.

Hates: I HATE with a flaming passion, all varieties of collard greens.  I tried to like them many times.  They're so bitter and disgusting.

Do you have a family doctor who she sees that you can speak with?  Maybe a close friend of hers?  I'd try to find someone she will talk to or listen to.

I'm really sorry you're going through this.  I wish I had better advice to give.

Ah! I came to this site so late this week that I don't have time to participate in the "getting to know you" exercise.  And that's one of my favorites too. Frown

It's been a heck of a week for me.  I haven't logged my calories at all, but if I had, I'm sure they'd be WELL under.  I had the flu this week and I didn't do much other than sleep, drink water, and groan miserably.  Today's really the first day I feel well enough to be up and about.

Well, 6 weeks in and I'm sorry to say I'm not on track at all right now.  I think it's because I was using the wedding as my motivating force for so long that, now that I'm married, I need to find an equally strong goal to work towards.  I can certainly still get on track, but in order to do so I'll need to keep the goals in the front of my mind.

Ooh!  Good topic.

1.  I don't have time to enter my calories.
&nb sp;  I'm on the internet basically every night anyway, I'll just pop in to CC and see how I did today while I'm at it.

2.  I don't feel like exercising.
&nb sp; But stretching would feel pretty good, right?  So I'll stretch and work myself up into yoga to improve my strength and balance.

3.  Eating right is expensive and I just can't afford that right now.
&nb sp;  If I plan it out right it doesn't have to be expensive.  Rice, barley, lentils, soups, they're all very inexpensive and can be dressed up very nicely.

Augh!  Here it is, less than an hour left in Saturday and I finally post.  I'm really disorganized right now.  My new husband and I are moving again and it's thrown everything into disarray.

Here's my recipe:http://caloriecount.about.com/potato-cabbage- soup-recipe-r277710

Okay, let me refine my goals a little.

I will record all my calories at least six days every week.

I will continue to drink at least 2+ liters of water each day.

Hokay, here's my goal!

By December 12th I will be:
Recording all my calories consistently and exercising 2 to 3 times each week.

Maintenance goal:
Continue drinking 2+ liters of water each day.

I will not be posting next week, though I may pop in late the following week.  Wish me luck, ladies!  I'm finally getting married!  Thanks to this thread and everyone's support I've lost 30 pounds since June last year, and even though I fell away from the group during my move earlier this year, I firmly believe that the accountability and encouragement that you all provided has been invaluable to me as I struggled towards my goals. Thank you all so much!

I missed the cutoff date to establish goals, but here's my check-in anyway.

This week has been full of really boring but healthy food for me.  My fiance and I made some budget cuts, so we're living off of oatmeal, rice, lentils, pasta, and canned tuna.  On the upside, though, there's a distinct lack of refined sugar and fatty foods available to us.  I'm still hoping I haven't lost too much weight for my wedding dress over the last month.

*whew* Sorry I've been a little flaky these past few weeks.  With my wedding only 17 days away, I have SO much on my plate right now.  Between tracking down delinquent RSVP's, nailing down the last minute details of the ceremony and the reception, and looking for a place to live, I'm surprised I even have a minute to think.

As for this week's exercise:

Outermost layer -
To feel more attractive
To look better in clothes
To look better without clothes ;)

Middle layer -
To make healthier choices a habit
To live a more holistic lifestyle

Center -
To never have diabetes like my dad
To be a good example to my kids (when I have them)

Sorry, sorry!  Here I am.  It's just so hard to find time to spend online with my wedding less than a month away.

So far I'm maintaining my weight, which is good because I don't want to need emergency alterations of my dress.  I'm having a harder time resisting those stress induced cravings though, chocolate chip cookies, ice cream, potato chips with onion dip... I need to stop talking about them now.

I didn't participate in the goal-setting for this go-round, but I'm doing alright.  I've been in a funk this week (stupid water weight), but I haven't fallen off the wagon, I'm jus teetering a little.

I really need to get back into my regular exercise routine.  I'm really enjoying the EA Active game for the Wii.  It's challenging and fun.

Weekly update:

I am eating well, but I am definitely having trouble getting up early enough to work out.  And early is definitely the only time I can work out most of the time.

WJ exercise:

Hello, everyone!  I'd like to introduce you to Peera!  She's a 24 year old who runs her boyfriend's family's hotel business, and the mother of a 5 month old son!  She is an only child, but she has three bearded dragons as pets, who are considered part of the family.

Peera classifies herself as a "freak" since she loves body modification and has eclectic tastes.  She collects everything from My Little Pony toys to corsets and loves turn-based strategy games.  Her favorite music genre is late 70's early 80's pop/rock.  She also still has one of her baby teeth!

Sara:  Congratulations on you move!  And a BIG congratulations to you for keeping it all together while your life and living space are in the state of upheaval I came to know very well.

This Week:  I'm just now picking up steam again.  I tried on my wedding dress and now I have pictures on my phone to remind me what I'm aiming for. The wedding is exactly 2 months away today, and I'll need to get that dress in for alterations within a month.

My fiance and I have decided that instead of signing up for a gym, we're making a one-time investment in our Wii console.  We added Wii Fit and Wii Active to our lives.  So far, it's a blast.  The Wii Fit has some wonderful activities like yoga and balancing games.  It also keeps a record of my weight so I know where I stand at any given time.  The Wii Active is much higher intensity and lets you set goals, track your progress, and earn trophies.  They have a 30-day challenge that I find very motivating.

Eating healthily is still a challenge for me, and getting around to recording the calories even more so, but I think I know what the problem is (besides poor self-discipline, of course).  My sleep habits lately have been terrible, and due to that I've been slacking off on cooking/packing meals and exercising, and it's made me more dependent on caffeine which BOTH add to my stress level.  I want to start spending a few minutes every morning meditating and relaxing and then get it moving!

Hello everyone!  I have returned!  I ended up leaving WJ in May when things got out of hand for me after the move and then some sleezebag broke into the place where I'm staying and stole, amoung other things, my laptop, leaving me with no way to post.

I'm coming out of a slump and losing weight again.  I had been maintaining (more or less) for the last month and 1/2.  At this point I'll have to have my wedding dress taken in anyway, so I maight as well get as thin as possible before I have to get it altered.

I'm excited to be back!

*makes a grand entrance*  Here I am!
I am so sorry I was MIA for so long.  Between the move, and my new job, and needing to reinstall my OS on my laptop, I've been hard pressed to log on, let alone post for the last few weeks.

So far I have not made any progress on my goal at all.  I am not exercising at all right now beyond my activity level having gone up due to my new job.  I'm not even recording my calories consistently right now.

It's very frustrating.  I NEED to lose this weight, my wedding is only 4 1/2 months away.  So I really need to make time for counting my calories and for wagon jumpers to help me stay on track.

(PS)  Thanks very much to Supersized, msmeg, defrog3, carryonandon, constanza, and germaica for your concerns and friendly reminders to come back to the group.

Hi everyone!

Sorry I was MIA last week.  I moved to another state and it took forever to get the internet situated.

I'm standing and walking much more with my new job, which is a good thing, but I REALLY need to find a place to work out.  I could join the 24 hour gym that my new roommate uses, but I'm considering checking out the mixed martial arts dojo in town instead.  They have cardio classes as well as martial arts classes.

As for my goals:

Maintenance goal - I will continue to eat 1400-1500 calories daily with a ratio of 15% fat, 25% protein, 60% carbohydrates.

New goal - Gym or no gym, I will workout 3 to 4 times a week.

8 Months Check-in:
Wow!  This is the longest I've ever stuck with a weight loss program!  I've been taking my time going between active weight loss and maintainance, and so far I'm down 21 lbs!  It's incredible!  The motivation and accountability from this thread has proved absolutely invaluable!  I've managed to develop so many good habits and abandon so many harmful ones.  Here's to even more and to losing those last 46 lbs!

Weekly Check-in:
Last week I think I did pretty well.  I worked myself out hard twice and kept a close eye on my diet.  If I keep moving in this positive direction I may even have to get my wedding dress taken in!  That would be the best unplanned wedding expense ever!

Weekly Topic:
To be honest, I'm not very good at motivating myself day to day.  I have a tendency to let the week roll by and then look back and say, "Damn.  I was supposed to work out 3x this week."  I usually allow myself one cheat meal each week, but I think I'll set a condition to it; unless I work out at least 3x and record my calories 6 out of 7 days, I don't get my cheat meal.

Does that mean that you are upset that you only lost 2 pounds in a week even though you've been sick?  Jetlee, 2 lbs. a week is a good thing.  In fact, in most cases more than 2.5 lbs. a week is a bad thing; it indicates muscle loss.

I'm more concerned with you feeling sick on the South Beach Diet.  I'm going to recommend a book that really helped me: "The Metabolic Typing Diet" by William Wolcott and Trish Fahey.

And here's some information on metabolic typing:

I'm so proud of myself!  I've been to the gym the past two days and I kicked my own arse both times.  Of course I'm taking arnica like there's no tomorrow because the DOMS is already appearing, but it feels so good to know that I'm actually doing something.  It's been way too long since I pushed myself that hard.

I only wish I could take credit for it, but I'm no good at going to the gym on my own.  My fiance went along with me and, heaven save me, I need that companionship and that element of friendly competition.  It's a fair trade though; he won't go alone either, and he's no happier with his physique than I am with mine.

I'm hoping to get at least one more workout in this week to meet my goal of 3x/week.

Weekly Check-in:

I'm doing pretty well this week.  I'm recording my calories even when I'm not particularly proud of what I've eaten, which is really key for me.  I haven't been to the gym yet this week, which is a problem.  I always did my best when I was in the gym in time to watch the sun rise through the window, so I really need to get back to that.

Goal Check-in:

I've been doing well with recording my food, but I must admit to falling flat lately on making it to the gym 3x a week.  The good news is that I'm getting a huge dose of motivation; I just ordered my wedding dress, and they ordered it in a smaller size for me.  It's a corset back, so it's not that risky of a move, but motivation it is, nonetheless.

Tiegurl -  What's the matter?  Is everything okay?

Weekly Check-In:

I had a pretty good week last week.  I took advantage of the gorgeous weather and went walking, made it to the gym, tracked my calories... right up until the weekend.  I overindulged pretty heavily in alcohol Friday night, which I haven't done in a good 7 or 8 months.  Now I'm stuck waiting for the water weight to go away.  It really threw off my sugars for the rest of the weekend, but I was able to keep my snacking in check for the most part.

This week's topic:

I'm going to post a main dish as well as a dessert, since I've mostly posted desserts in recipe threads before.

Asparagus and lemon both remind me of spring and summer, and I really like this dish.
http://caloriecount.about.com/lemon-asparagus -pasta-grilled-chicken-recipe-r195846

Strawberries are an unmistakable spring fruit, and here's a wonderful low fat banana bread recipe where strawberry co-stars.

I have been advised by more than one trainer not to work out first thing in the morning without some kind of food in my system.  It's because your body will go into a catabolic state where it's more inclined to use muscle for energy than fat, as opposed to the anabolic state which is where you want to be.

I've found that grabbing something really light like a banana, or even better, drinking a mix of juice and (pasteurized) egg whites gives me more energy at the gym and doesn't make me so starving afterwards that I undo all my hard work, all without that oh-so-full feeling.

Weight Loss Calorie Calculators Mar 02 2009

Original Post by gi-jane:

My suggestion... go with the higher number (1400)  1250 calories is precious little food and weight-loss doesn't work so well when it's miserable.  People tend to give up quicker.

I wholeheartedly agree with gi-jane!

Another thing to remember is that all the online calculators are making educated guesses.  Everyone's body works differently and processes nutrients differently.  If they didn't, the same diet and exercise plan would work for everyone.
I'd advise you not to worry too much about the fluctuation between the calculators and get started on finding an amount that works best for your individual needs.

The Vitamin Dominatrix I always find it interesting how much more challenging the natural outdoors is. Do you live near a beach?

I don't live very close to a beach, but my grandmother owns a beach house that we're welcome to visit whenever.  My only worry this year is that I'm wearing a strapless wedding gown in September and I don't want tan lines in my wedding photos.

I've always wanted to try jogging on the beach; I've heard very good things about it.  I also want to try and go for a nature walk once a week once the weather warms up (we're expecting 6-8 inches of snow tonight).

I've found that no matter how well you do in the gym or on an elliptical, even moderate effort on natural terrain can really kick your arse, and it's good to throw your body a curve ball every so often.

*Whew!* I'm back!

Sorry I went MIA, my wireless drivers went bad and I ended up having to reinstall my entire OS to get the internet back.

Half-way check-in:

I've actually been trying to maintain this month, and I've done it.  I weigh the same today as I did on the first of February.  I haven't been as diligent at recording my calories as I'd like; I have a few days where I recorded my calories up until about 4:00 and then slacked off.  I haven't made it to the gym once this week, but I have been exercising at home to make up for it.

Next month I plan to begin losing weight again.  It should be easier to get out to the gym or to a walking park since I finally got my car back this week (and it doesn't hurt that the weather is warming up either)!  I'll really have to get it in gear, my wedding is less than seven months away!
