Foods Vinegar Jan 16 2008

A friend of mine used apple vinegar (the raw kind you get at health food stores) to get rid of her varicose (sp) veins and reduce her appitite.  She would drink it hot like tea, 1 teaspoon of vinegar with honey and lemon heated in the microwave.

The smell was horrible, but I tried it and the taste wasn't bad if you like tart.  The problem I had was the blood thinning.  I would develop bruises way too easy.  I looked like someone was beating me, it was embarassing.  She swore it wasn't the vinegar, but I knew it had to be.

It works for some, but approach with caution and deffinatley stop using it if bruises develop for no reason.

I subscribe to 3.  Fitness, Shape and Oxygen.  Oxygen is hardcore bodybuilding for women.  Fitness and Shape have general exercise and nutrition ideas.  All three also have websites.

I used to take calcium to help me sleep at night.  I haven't been taking it for awhile.  Can't hurt to start again.

As far as D goes.  I get plenty of year round sun, I wonder if that counts or if I should supplement?

I would be intersted in the answer to this question also.  I have been doing cardio and strength training 5 days a week.  This week I've only done intense cardio 4 days and took a break from stregnth training (out of laziness).  Other than having to motivate myself to start over next week, will this break hurt the tone I've earned so far?

Toby, one of my co-workers, a retired marine who also holds a strength training class at the base gym after work, sent me a link to help with weight training.  I have been refusing to go to her class because I don't feel as fit as everyone else right now and I'm just starting with strength training.  The exercises on the link that use gym equipment can be modified with hand weights.  I started out with 5lb hand weights and I'm finally moving up to 10 this week.  I'll send you an email with the link along with some hints on navigating around the site.  I don't want to post it here, because I don't want to violate any posting rules.

I'm in my 2nd week of getting up at 5AM to do 20 intense minutes on the treadmill (I'm also NOT a morning person).  I do strength training every day after work and had been alternating cardio with abs each day in addition to lifting weights.  I had been doing that since 8-27 and had not lost a single pound.  So I thought if I get up early for the cardio 5 days a week, then do the strength training after work and still do abs on alternate days, surely I will show some progress.  Nope, none, nada, nothing lost.  I am showing some muscle definition that I have never had before.  That is thrilling, but I would still like to see this belly getting smaller.  I feel like I'm just building muscle under the fat!

I've been trying to cut calories, but its hard.  I quit smoking just 2 months ago (which is how I gained this excess 30#) and find it very hard to deprive myself.  I had been doing pretty good till my husband went on travel today.  When I got home from work, instead of doing my weights (today was backs) I gorged on left over philly cheese steak pizza (3 slices) and some cajun boudin sausage.  Uhg!!! At least I did my cardio this morning.

I'm in.  I was just thinking about an over 40 club myself.  I just can't relate nor do I have patience for the young teens with their eating disorders.  Not trying to be mean, but it would be soooooo nice to have a forum for women over 40.
