| Motivation | Is it possible to ever have a flat tummy again after 2 kids? | Oct 05 2007 18:22 (UTC) |
9 |
| I have had six children, the last by c-section, and my stomach was as flat after the last as before the first within 6 weeks. This was all before I had a weight problem, but even now at 185, my stomach is fairly flat. I don't do crunches, never have, but I do make a conscious effort to stand and sit up straight and hold my stomach in as much as possible. (My Mom is a stickler for good posture.) My problem was and still is the skin, pregnancy ruined my skin. I think surgery is the only answer for me, but yes, you can certainly have your flat stomach back. | |||

| I agree, sizes have changes. Until I hit 35, I was 5'8" and 125 lbs. and I wore a size 10, maybe I could squeeze into an 8 now and then depending on the brand. I was built like a ruler. Never had much of a figure or rear. Now I'm at 184 and my size 16 jeans are getting loose. I'm not really looking forward to loosing the rear I have now, but I think it is inevitable if I want to get healthy. | |||

| I smoked for 18 years. Like clynnpaint, I also went to the Farmer's A;manac and found the best day to quit smoking. I quit cold turkey and haven't had a cigarette in 17 years. Maybe there's something to it. But if the best day has already past, I am here to tell you, the day you quit will be the best day. | |||

| I, like you, only log the major stuff. I choose to believe that I am burning a good bit more than my meter indicates but I think it depends on the activity level you chose when you started your account, so maybe it is more accurate than I choose to believe. | |||

Sounds like you are doing the right thing. If you can't resist something don't have it in the house. I plan quite a few parties and always order or make the cake according to how many guests will be in attendance. Then as the party is winding up offer the remainder, if any, to the departing guests. If your party is intimate, just family, buy or make a really small cake. I have even bought personal sized cakes and my kids were delighted with them. The thought of "wasting" that food goes against my grain but I don't want to be "waisting" that food either. I do know where you are coming from though, ice cream is my temptation. When it calls my name from the freezer, I tell myself I'll get some later. Thankfully my son finished off that last half gallon of Blue Bell before I got around to my second serving. Good luck with your battle against that cookie monster and Happy Birthday to your son!

At least 5 or 6 sometimes more. Usually what is in season, really enjoy fresh brussell sprouts right now. But I always love that ever popular veggie/fruit the tomato. No, I don't count potato chips as a veggie. If they are around I will eat them.

| Weight Loss | At what age did you feel your metabolism was slowing down | Oct 01 2007 00:51 (UTC) |
|
| I was around 35 when my metabolism came to a screeching halt. Well, slowed down appreciably. I think over the past fifteen years since then, My yoyo dieting has turned my body into the perfect fat storage device. I am now here eating healthy and counting calories, I am seeing results, but more importantly I am feeling results. I feel better and have more energy than I have had in years. As far as eating less, I think that now that I am making healthier choices, I am actually eating more food than I did before. The old choices were just higher in fat and calories. | |||
| Foods | Where do you Shop / Get your veggies n fruits? | Oct 01 2007 00:25 (UTC) |

| Visit the "fresh veggies n fruit" section of your supermarket. They sell pre-packaged vegetables of all sorts. If that is what you are looking for. Broccoli, cauliflower, and carrots, salads mixes, or you could just buy some veggies and fruit. The freezer section has nice little packages of frozen veggies with the weight written out. And of course there are also canned veggies, beans and soups, but watch the salt content here. In answer to the original question "Where do I shop/ get your veggies n fruits?" I shop at the Whole Foods Store and our local Farmer's market. Oh, and congratulations on your decision to eat healthy, I wish I could talk my two daughters in college into doing the same. | |||

| My Mom bought one a couple of weeks ago. She is 78 years old, legally blind and needs knee replacements so she can't get much traditional exercise. She loves it. I think it's just a glorified swivel chair, but I am glad to see my mom getting some exercise. | |||

| I am two weeks without diet coke. I am done with the stuff. Cold Turkey. (of course, I still have a glass of unsweetened tea every day so I get my caffeine) I don't care for water but I am forcing myself to drink it. So far I have continued to loose weight so hang in there. | |||

| This is the average of all the days I have been logging. The percentages seem to be an average overall, but when it comes to that part of the report, I think it may be a running total. I couldn't eat that much food in one day. My daily stats are similar to yours. So, No you are not doing anything wrong. | |||

| Eat the cabbage yourself. If your son doesn't like cabbage, I don't think you are going to "sell" him anything. I have always found with my kids (all six of them) that they are more willing to try food I am enjoying. Now that they are grown, my kids eat, or at least will try, anything. Whatever you do don't try to force it on him. I once spent seven hours at the table refusing to eat white squash. To this day, forty some years later, I still won't eat them. I eat yellow squash, zucchini, butternut, acorn, pumpkin, but not white squash. So fix up some cabbage, I like mine lightly smothered with onions, and eat it in front of him. Don't make a big deal of it. Offer it to him every time you have it, someday he is going to give it a try. | |||

| Weight Loss | Can't eat enough calories like I should | Sep 19 2007 01:37 (UTC) |

I find the more healthy I try to eat the harder it is to get enough calories. Though my cholesterol is not high, my doctor suggested I increase the good and decrease the bad. I have been able to work my way up from 800 (the first day I started ) to around 1200 but many days I have to add a third snack before bedtime to bump it over. This site recommends I eat 1750 per day, but I just don't know how to do that and stay within a healthy range on fat intake. I don't think 700 is healthy though, and I believe it will catch up with you. Have you tried to eat smaller meals more often? Good luck and eat some more veggies! |
|||
| Health & Support | Now What?? | Sep 16 2007 18:52 (UTC) |

| I am having difficulty eating the amount of calories suggested as well. My caloric goal is 1750 and I push to get it between 1200 and 1300. If I were you I would add some fresh fruit to breakfast and some veggies to lunch and dinner. That's how I brought my intake up from 1000, which is what I was eating when I decided to "eat healthy". You can hardly go wrong by adding fruits and veggies. Good luck | |||

| I bought a book called "The Artist's Way", which is a "textbook" to guide the reader on the spiritual path to creativity. Sounds kind of "new wave" but it is working for me, I have already finished two paintings, nearly finished a third and have a fourth planned. (I normally do about one painting a year) Anyway, as part of the course, I had to sign a contract with myself to do a number of things and part of it was to take care of myself, eat well, and get plenty of exercise. I can't tell you how many times I have told myself this but never did a thing, this time though, something clicked. I went on the internet and ended up here. It's only been a few days but I feel better already because I am finally doing something. | |||
| Pregnancy & Parenting | Losing Weight While Pregnant?? | Sep 12 2007 17:16 (UTC) |

| I have had six children and during all six pregnancies I lost weight during the first three months, without trying. Then of course I would begin to gain. Really gain. Talk to your doctor. I believe the most important thing is to maintain a healthy diet not to worry about whether or not you are gaining or losing weight. Take your prenatal vitamins and get plenty of exercise. The better physical shape you are in the easier your delivery will be. Stay happy and relaxed. Oh, and once your little bundle of joy gets here, make sure you breastfeed, it really helps get rid of those extra pregnancy pounds, it truly creates a wonderful bond between you and your baby and it is extremely beneficial to your baby. Congratulations! | |||
