I take in at least 50 every day-- don't sweat it. I've lost 12.5 pounds since I started a month ago. You didn't have a lot of candy and junk... So you had veggies and fruits and whole wheat bread. Carbs are not the enemy (in my humble opinion). I eat beans, rice, oatmeal, luna bars, oranges, fruits, veggies--every day. No biggie. You did great-- you didn't eat a whole cake or pig out on candy bars--give yourself some credit. :-) (And everyone needs a rice krispy bar now and then.) |

| Weight Loss | myth or truth: male breasts | Oct 07 2007 00:03 (UTC) |

That depends-- do you have them because of a hormonal or medication issue, or just because of the weight?
What I mean is... Gynomastia, or male breasts, can be caused by an imbalance of androgens in the body-- the result is a glandular overgrowth-- may lessen, but probably won't disappear. If you have male breasts from obesity, with just overgrowth of fatty tissue, they will go away.

| I don't much care for dried or dehydrated soybeans, either. Have you tried fresh or frozen soybeans? I love the edamame still in the shell. I just boil them and pop the beans out of the shell into my mouth--yummy! | |||

| Welcome! I've been here for 2 weeks, too. I love this! I've lost 7 pounds so far, but now I'm on a plateau. I probably lost too much weight too fast--now it's stopped. Oh well. I'm sure it'll pick up again. Good luck to you. | |||

| Health & Support | Crohn's, colitis, prednisone, and weight loss? | Sep 23 2007 23:12 (UTC) |

It would depend on how long you've been taking the Prednisone, dosage, etc. Long term corticosteroid use (ie:Prednisone) can have all kinds of nasty side effects--however, the benefits of Prednisone for people with IBD outway the side effects, or else there wouldbe no reason to use it. However, I have yet to meet someone who has permanent side effects after short term or discontinued use. |

| An eliptical machine is one of those machines that kind of simulates cross country skiing. You can find one in almost any gym. I love them much more than treadmills! | |||
| Health & Support | Increasing bone size? | Sep 23 2007 23:00 (UTC) |

| Actually, we talked about this in my Anatomy and Physiology class. Weight bearing exercise and strength training actually does more than add density--it does increase bone. (Not length, but width). However, it won't increase it enough for you to see a difference in your body frame. | |||

| My grandpa was a marathon runner and had to have both knees and both hips replaced. His knees were replaced TWICE. His doctor said that virtually every long distance runner will need to have joint replacement eventually. Walking is best! Or--try the eliptical--it's like running, but no shock to the joints. | |||

I totally agree with mbsmith...
Don't deprive yourself of stuff you want to eat--just eat MUCH smaller portions--that way you won't go crazy if you taste something that you've been depriving yourself of. Also--don't starve yourself the next day--just go back to sensible eating and maybe beef up your exercise for a day or two. Remember--3500 calories=1 pound, so one binge day isn't going to kill you--just pick up from where you left off and you'll be fine. |

| Weight Loss | Not enough cals... tons burned... not hungry! | Sep 18 2007 14:54 (UTC) |
|
| That's happened to me, too, for the last 2 weeks. I've been working out about an hour and a half a day and eating little bits here and there all day long. I'm never hungry. Sometimes I have to force myself to eat. I'm freaked that my body is going to go into starvation mode. Not sure what to do about it. I've lost 2.4 pounds in 4 days. It's probably mostly water, but it still feels great to be on the scale and have it be lighter. | |||

| Weight Loss | upping calories=more weight loss | Sep 17 2007 03:37 (UTC) |
|
I think it's worth a try. I mean, you're not going to gain weight by eating one hundred extra calories a day temporarily. My friend had gastric bypass surgery, and whenever she'd hit a plateau, she'd just up her exercise and wait it out--eventually she'd stop the plateau phase and start losing again. Are you exercising regularly? I'd try beefing up my routine. |

| Health & Support | Should i eat if I'm sick? | Sep 14 2007 00:59 (UTC) |

| You need to drink plenty of fluids and eat simple things like whole grain crackers or toast--or bananas--just until you can get more down. | |||
| Weight Loss | Eating Skinny COSTS more than Eating Fat | Sep 13 2007 21:04 (UTC) |

It totally costs more to eat healthy--I mean, Ramen noodles are only .20 cents a package-- pasta and potatoes are cheap. Mac and cheese--cheap. Leaner meats are more expensive than fatty ones. However, I guess you can't put a price on health, right? I guess it's worth paying out the bucks. |

| Weight Loss | How often do you measure for inches lost? | Sep 13 2007 21:01 (UTC) |

| I check once a month-- that way you'll really notice a difference. Inches can come off slowly--so I always wait a month so I can see some progress. | |||
