Weight Loss Day 1 and I 'm hungry Jan 09 2008

A half cup of Fiber One cereal with some vanilla soy milk ( I like soy slender, no carbs) works for me when I get that 'oh man I'm hungry'  feeling...,  it's only half a serving, and with only 80 calories or so has 7+ grams of fiber which will keep you full longer.

Good luck :)

Love yoga, becoming certified as an instructor! Remember you'll burn more calories by working the larger muscle groups in unison, and vinyasa (flow) is helpful if you need to feel "the burn", vs a slower paced practice.

There is a web site www.yogatoday.com that offers free 1hr practices that are different every day, so you can browse and choose, and even save the ones you enjoyed best. Definitely helps with getting bored on the same dvds and you get different settings / instructors too.

have fun!

I buy low fat ice cream bars. Have one and keep the box way in the back so you don't see it every time you open the freezer, but have to dig for it when you really want it. If you're going for the second one, hopefully you will have the time it takes digging it out to realize you don't need another. Then drink a big glass of ice water :)

Also, Jello and low fat pudding packs are good because if you're like me, eating one is ok, but the guilt starts in when I reach for another package. Not the same as eating right out of a pint of ice cream. I think we are conditioned at an early age to eat the whole thing once it's opened. So go for small sizes.

Works for me, and one box of 10  ice cream bars can last me over 3 weeks most times.

Good luck

Know what's fun, try www.fitnessmagazine.com and use the virtual model to see what weights will look like on the model. You can personalize it too (kinda). I actually made mine look pretty much like me. But it gives great incentive :)

btw, I'm 5'6 and aiming for 140 ...

ohh music! I run to Rob Zombie or Ministry... cycle to Deicide (death metal for anyone who doesn't know) and try to pedal as fast as the drummer! he's FAST!Hatebreed is great for weight rotations, don't let the name fool ya, very inspiring lyrics... and I'm with christafat as far as Krishna Das and other melodic artists when it comes to my nightly yoga. Perfect way to end a day.
Fitness headaches during workout Sep 28 2007

Are you taking any supplements?  Some are too strong for our systems and do cause headaches.

How strenuous is your cardio? Can you still talk while doing it or are you short of breath? This can also induce a headache.

Are you properly hydrated?   Many factors to consider, so pay attention to your body, and be safe.

My advice is to try and get past your cravings by doing other stuff... walking, brushing your teeth, post and gripe to us all online, whatever. Remember that the cycle will pass, but the calories will stay .

Midol is good for water retention, and that will pass too...

We all deal with it, and it can be done.

Good luck :)

Simple answer is NOPE.

If you can't get to the gym, bring it to you... pick a workout DVD and do it at home, there are several great aerobic/toning vids available that get your heart going and are about 700 calories burned per hour or if you are really just exhausted at the end of your day, try yoga.

It's free at www.yogatoday.com

Great toning, and leaves you very relaxed at the end of a practice. Good for before bed, and you don't feel sore. That and a quick hot shower is enough to put anyone to sleep :)

Adding lemon to water helps it to hydrate your body faster.

I don't know that it helps weight-loss or not, but it's certainly healthier than coffee and many teas, especially when you think of the cleansing process, and our bodies being all clogged by toxins. I suppose if our colons are clean, and everything moves how it should, one might see a few pounds come off...

While overdoing it one day may average out to less calories than you think, the line " a month of starvation" concerns me because if you do not give your body the minimal amount of calories, it will feel "starved" and hold on to fat storage until the next supply comes in...then when a new supply of calories does come in, it will hold on to it anticipating for the next shortage (does this make sense to you?) If you don't eat you'll gain weight. The idea is to burn as much or more calories than you eat.

I would suggest on days that you overeat, you compensate with some cardio rather than limit food the next day. Besides eating Sunday and starving Monday will not make Sunday's fat go away :) Only exercise can do that.

Good luck

ohh how I love the china buffet :) sounds like you have it lined up, which is huge when making up a plate. You won't have to try all sorts of stuff, just a spoonful of what you like best. The big killers are the fried stuff, so if you can skip those without feeling deprived then yay you! Be sure to eat a filling breakfast like oatmeal with blueberries, which is low fat but keeps you full, then munch some celery before you go... the strings make your digestion work twice as hard to break it all up and will give your belly something to do besides growl in anticipation for chinese :)

Weight Loss Yoga for losing weight? Sep 19 2007

Yoga is the way to go... :) I'm nearly done with my certification to be an instructor, and since the very first practice I've loved every second of it! Relaxes your mind after a tough day, keeps you so flexible that your other exercises will seem easier too.

Before you buy any videos try www.yogatoday.com  it's FREE yoga workouts daily, the practices vary and are split between 3 instructors, all are set in outdoors, and you can save or dump which ever you don't enjoy (I have about 15 favs saved to my pc for when the mood for something different hits)

But advice... listen to your body! go slowly and only as deep into a pose you can with minimal strain (a little bit is good, and will dissolve with the breath as you focus, laugh but you'll see :) ) The breath is everything!

A good power yoga vinyasa (vinyasa means flow) in Baron Baptiste, good dvd's, but like I said, you can find those all for free on that site.

Good luck, namaste

Test yourself by going the same distance in a shorter amount of time, and sing the whole way. If you're really ambitious carry a weighted backpack or 5lb weights to burn extra calories. If you can't sing when you're nearly done, you've maxed out.

Use that as what I call a "good day" workout, and slow it up a bit for the not so good days, but keep the weight. I carry the little backpacks full of water bottles when I hike, you'd be surprised how just a few pounds, that you barely notice, can make such a difference in your endurance.

Don't forget to stretch before and after your walks.

Most sushi restautants will offer brown rice as well... a good substitute for starchy white rice. Stick with ginger dressings for your salad, and remember spicy foods keep your metabolism happy, so load up on wasabi if you can stand it :)

Have fun, Happy Birthday
