I know what you mean.  I havent been on c.c. for a while and boy can I tell.  I've put on about five pounds and all I want is junk food.  I've had doughnuts, chocolate, lasagna and garlic bread.  I don't know how to say no to these things when they are in my home.  I need some advice too on how to say no and achieving self control.

Weight Loss how to figure out the deficit Oct 31 2007

Coach K,

Thanks so much for all your help.  I'm barely 5 foot and I weigh 135.  I only consume 1200 cals a day.  That is only because I'm forcing myself to eat more.  Before I became a member of CC I didn't realize that I was in starvation mode.  I have times when I want to eat, but for the most part I'll start eating a couple of bites and be so full that if I eat anymore I feel sick.  So CC taught me to stop eating three times a day and like a bird.  Now I eat all day, but choose grapes, brocolli dipped in ranch, raisins, etc...  So if I eat very little at breakfast, lunch, and dinner, it doesn't matter, because I've eaten more cals. throughout the day.  That's when I finally started to lose weight.  But now I'm stuck on 135, and that seems to fluctuate up and down to 137.  I've been trying to look at the eat, burn meters and figure out how much more I should eat when I've worked out.  So far, I've only been adding about 100 to 200 more cals a day depending on how many cals. I have burned.  This usually happens at night, when I've taken my last look at my cals. for the day and realize I need to eat about 200 more calories, because I worked out today.  Then I go find something in my kitchen that is around those cals and eat up.  But I feel so weird about that.  You always hear that you will retain or put on weight if you eat at night.  But now I hear I will retain or gain if I don't.  I can definately tell I'm getting smaller in my clothes, which is a blessing, but I just wish that crazy scale will work with me too.

Maintaining Calories..burning off to eating..question? Oct 09 2007

gadzooks,

Does this mean that since I burn 1600 at a sedantary rate and I'm only supposed to eat 1200 to lose weight that If I ate 1600 cals a day I would maintain and not gain?  I've been losing about a 1/2 pound a week at sedantary by sticking to my 1200 cals.  Today I started back to exercising and burned 209 cals on the treadmill.  I'm having to force myself to eat a little over my 1200 cals (because I'm not hungry), so I will stay in range of losing and not maintaining.

Yeah, I know what you mean.  I started a sore throat and cough about a month ago and feel okay, but this cough won't seem to go away.  It's keeping me puny enough to keep me off the treadmill.  Which really stinks, because I was doing so good at excersing consistantly.  I was actually almost jogging on it, (I am not a runner, my knees don't like it).  I try to power walk on it though.  I think if I could just get completely over this cough, I'd be able to get back to it.  And then maybe I would lose faster.

Thanks so much everyone for your help.  I will definately try portion control when these temptations are in my home.

Those are great ideas- my mother-in-law took the kids to the cider mill this past weekend & of course brought home the leftover freshly made doughnuts in a bag- I then took out 3 bags for each of my kids & divided them up- there weren't that many, but they were their bags & they of course finished them off- no doughnuts for me, no temptation, yeah!

You should shave your head.  That's at least a couple of lbs right there.

Snozberries:  That was so funny!  I've been laughing for two minutes straight.lol   lol  lol

All I have to say is just look at your picture for a while and you'll see you don't need to lose weight at all.  Your ribs are sticking out and you're skin and bone already.  Try being like some of the rest of us who need to loose so much weight that if it were just 5 pounds it would be like taking a dime off of an elephant.

Have you ever heard of the "Fix-It and Forget-It" Cookbooks?  I love mine.  I have the original and the light cookbook.  They are only cookbooks for the Crockpot.  I love the one called "Donna's Cooked Chicken"  because I use the big package of chicken (even though there's no way my family could eat all of it in one night).  Then I use the leftover chicken in the "White Chicken Chili" recipe.  Sometimes, I even have enough chicken left to use for chicken tacos too.

Then there's another recipe in them called "Italian meatloaf", (which my family never finishes).  So I take the rest of the meatloaf and use it for Spaghetti the next night.  I love to find new ways to stretch meat, since meat is so expensive.

I usually get my crockpot cookbooks out when I'm writing my grocery list.  I make a list of the names and pages of the recipes I'm going to fix for the week and put it up on my fridge.  Then I make sure I have every item in each recipe on my grocery list.  And there you have it:  No excuses for not cooking that week.

I agree with phiguru - planning is key. I plan and I sitck with it or else I fall apart and spend too much.

Rice and pasta are good meal bases as are beans.  I make a "taco soup" that everyone loves and it's basically just a few cans of beans (black, pinto, kidney) and a package of taco seasoning.  If you feel like it, toss in a can of diced tomatoes.  Add a can of water. Cook for about 30 minutes. Serve with a salad or corn muffins.

I buy cheaper cuts of meat and use the crock pot - things come out so tender that way.

Think of meat as a condiment too, not as the biggest part of the meal.  Americans generally get too much protein anyway.

abbiec, do you know if you gain when you're on your cycle or almost ready to start it?  I've put on 2 pounds since this Saturday and am due to start tomorrow.  Just wondering if you knew, since you seemed to really keep track of the monthly thing.

Does anyone know if I should lose weight first and then add exercising.  It's been three weeks since I worked out and I've been losing faster since then.  I am consuming 1200 cals right now.  I've had a chest cough for a while and didn't want to make myself worse by exercising.  That's when the pounds starting coming off.  Now I am feeling better and am wondering if I should wait to add the ex. or go ahead, but eat more cals.

Thanks so much everyone for replying.  It does make me feel better to know that there are other people struggling with this and that there is not something seriously wrong with me.  For a  week and a half I've been sick with a cough and have been trying to take it easy.  I haven't exercised, but I'm still on 1200 cals.  I actually lost one pound during this break.  But then today it went back up.  I would like to start my exercising back on Monday.  Do you know if I should try loosing weight without exercising at first, and then add it in?

Two weeks ago, I was working out a lot, (one day I burned 330 cal. on the treadmill, mowed the lawn, jumped on the trampoline, and swam in our pool all in one day).  And I had so much energy (probably because my body was getting used to higher impact exercising).  But then, bam!  I got sick.  Think I might have over done it.  So now, here I am waiting for this chest cold to go away and I have no more energy.  I homeschool my three children, so mostly I'm sitting in our school room at a desk for hours.  Then I do a little picking up the house and cook for supper.  This is what my day looks like right now.
