Original Post by petite_chicago: I have the same problem, but the good bacteria stuff made it waaay worse for me! The box said that your body usually gets used to it but mine never did. Since it's MORE bacteria (even though good) it just added to the drama for me.... I know what you mean, I hate it!! I'm gonna try to chew food well. |

Original Post by aovermy: Yeah I read the same thing and despite popular belief, instant oatmeal isn't less healthful except the sugars.... I love the instant oatmeal with lower sugar. They run 110-120 calories a pack. Very quick, very easy and very healthy. |

| Do you have it on sedentary and just add your workouts? That's what I do, and I was thinking, I run around all day, up stairs to get to my work every time i go on break, around the house etc., maybe that's why??? Just a guess. Just keep doing what you're doing.... | |||

I can see what you're going through. I wouldn't go outside either if it were cold and exercise tapes can be booooring. I know you have kids, but you need to go to the gym. The atmosphere makes you feel like you're part of something. It's so worth it. Some have daycare's but considering you have 3 and one is so young, will their Dad watch them? I think that would be your best bet. I used to take my kid to the daycare at the gym but if I were married I would rely on my hubby. I'm serious, once you get a membership, the hardest part is going, but once you GET there, you're so happy you did. I schedule the gym in my blackberry. If people ask me to do something I deny them by telling them I'm busy otherwise I will find a million excuses to not go to the gym. I think about my week and schedule it. THEN, when the time comes, I take my time getting there because sometimes I don't want to go (it used to be I never wanted to go) but once I get there I am soooooooooo happy I went. I know Texas has some good gyms. As far as the price, I don't know about Texas. I lived in CO for 3 years and the gym price was over 3 times the amount of the regular price in CA. I happened to sign up for the deal where you pay a big lump sum ($300) and that pays for 3 years and every year after that is just $49. That's a steal compared to $30 a month. In a year you would have paid for the whole three years. I get there and I feel great. Plus it will give you some you time away from the kids!! |

| Fitness | Shin splints anyone? | Jan 29 2008 18:10 (UTC) |

I had shin splints for YEARS and very bad (was in the army and we ran daily). I still run daily and I don't get shin splints because of my shoes. My shoes cost about $160 (yeah ouch) but it has been well worth it as my bad knees hurt less and ZERO shin splints. If you can't pay for that (don't know your financial situation) I'm sure there are other good shoes out there but also, I was talking to a guy at my work the other day about shin splints and he said he had them bad until he put this insert in his shoe - I think it started with an O, and he said he doesn't get them anymore... Was some medical term. |

You're doing great. When I was in the army we did muscle groups and cardio every day (alternated muscle groups) and I was in the best shape of my life. Personal trainers always say the more cardio the better, so I think you're doing awesome. |

You're welc, and they sell "steamfresh" vegetables that are made to just be nuked. Awesome stuff... and butter? I can't believe it's not butter SPRAY - 0 calories!!!! It's near the cottage cheese and I even got my boyfriend into it. (He's not trying to lose weight per se, just eat healthy, and he LOVES the stuff). If you steam the veggies then add the spray, you're talking less than 100 calories for a ton of veggies. NO COSTCO!?!? I would die,, hehe jk |

| Weight Loss | Should I change anything? | Jan 29 2008 03:33 (UTC) |

| While you should try to eat things low in fat, and carbs that have a good glycemic index (whole wheat pastas, brown rice, etc.) and high protein, you should focus on your calorie intake and those basic guidelines and the rest should fall into place. You'll find that those kinds of carbs are less calories, and if you cook with low fat it will have less calories too. Steam veggies, add I can't believe it's not butter SPRAY (0 calories) etc., and it will fall into place. | |||

Weight Watchers has a line called "Smart Ones" that I personally like better than lean cuisine but that's just me :) have you tried them? Also, try ground turkey! You can cook it (Easy, just put it in a pan, break it up till it's all cooked) then add it to spaghetti sauce and boil whole wheat spaghetti and eat it over that! MMM Low fat, low cal. I personally add basil, oregano, 2 pckgs of splenda, chopped dried onions and garlic to it but you hate cooking right? Flautas from costcto =230 calories for 2 and those just get thrown in the oven for 20 minutes.

I think the previous advice are both good advice. They are two different outlooks, one is because some people say to never go below your BMR (The amount of calories you burn by just laying in bed doing nothing). I think a lot of people agree with that, but I don't necessarily, just because many guided diets tell you to go lower. (My BMR is 1511 and I've been told by 2 different personal trainers to aim for 1400 calories). I know Biggest Loser is only a TV show, but there's another example where they go below BMR. I can see why people agree with that though, because you can still lose adequate weight and not go under your BMR. At any rate, you are gonna be at a deficit. I don't think your body counts weather or not that deficit is below your BMR! That being said, either way you go out of the two previous posts you will see success. Give it time though, that's the biggest thing. You HAVE to be patient. Don't weigh yourself, measure instead. If you weigh yourself, you might see the scale stay the same or perhaps go up a little bit because you're working out and gaining muscle but just give it time. I say aim for 1300-1400 on the days that you don't work out and add 200 calories or so on the days you do (depending on how much you burn) Good luck!!! You can do it!!!! |

First off, congratulations on losing that much weight!!! You must be estatic. You're so young too, you did such a great thing!! Whey protein is awesome and your body needs it if you want to tone. How many grams of protein do you eat in a day? That's where you should start. Like I am told I should have 100 grams of protein. It is very hard for me to hit that (I do on some days) but I take EAS Whey Protein shakes and they're awesome. EAS is a reputable company (affiliated with body for life) and they do extensive research. They made a product called AdvantEdge whey protein that I found in the grocery store and that had low chloresterol, but apparently they discontinued it. I buy it online now, or at Costco (Costco has it cheap, like 6 lbs for $30) and mix it with nonfat milk. I personally love the taste. Good luck and congrats again. |

| Weight Loss | if you need to eat just to keep metabolism up... | Jan 29 2008 03:01 (UTC) |

| I see what you're saying, but some argue that your deficit would be too high and that causes the metabolic slow down too. I thought of the same thing, eating a lot throughout the day but low cal stuff like fruit and somehow incorporate protein etc. into it. | |||

Dreyer's Slow Churned vanilla / some other flavors also have same amount of calories = 90 calories per half cup!!! (CC says 100 but it's 90) I am like you, ice cream is my weakness. I allow it in my calorie intake most days of the week and I measure half a cup, it tastes JUST like regular ice cream. Nobody believed me until I served it at a party! They were shocked. |
