Health & Support does your doctor actually have to DIAGNOSE you with anorexia to be... Sep 15 2007

Was this just your general practitioner that you saw? Because they would not be qualified to diagnose such a disorder anyway, you'd need to be referred to a psychiatrist. But since you tried to hide your possible eating disorder, they did not think there was a need to refer you. Maybe you should go back and ask to be referred to a specialist.

Definitely focus on doing weights first. Your muscle mass is probably too low so you need to do strength training before trying to lose fat. Once you've got a few pounds of muscle, then you can shift some fat if you need to. You'll need to make sure you get plenty of protein in your diet as this is what will increase your muscle mass in addition to strength training. As for carbs, stick to low GI carbs.

Also just like to point out that a body fat of 28-30% is still at the top end of what is acceptable for a female. It's just in your case it appears to be quite a high percentage for what you weigh.

Yep, if you had equal volumes of fat and muscle, the muscle would weigh about 1/4 to 1/5 more than the fat.

I agree with paperbag about the sizes. Size 4 is definitely smaller than a US size 0...that's why it's only available from certain shops.

Also I'd say sizes are quite as simple as just adding 2. From what I've found sizes correspond somewhat like this:

 US 00 = UK 4

US 0 = UK 6

US 2 = UK 8

US 4 = UK 8-10

US 6 = UK 10

US 8 = UK 12

US 10 = UK 12-14

US 12 = UK 14

US 14 = UK 16

US 16 = UK 18

Also, there is no UK size 2, but I think I know where it may have come up. Gap uses american sizes and so they have sizes down to a 0, but of course if you are a size 0 or 2 in Gap, you will be a size 6 or 8 in most shops.

The truth is measurements for sizes haven't changed since the 50's, all that has changed is the number on the label. What is a size 4 now in the UK 30.5-23-32 was once a size 8! I'm not denying it's not tiny, but I get the impression some people people think a size 4 is like a 20 inch waist or something!

5ft2 British UK size 10/12 and just under 9 stone (125lb).

I'd like to be around 8 stone (112) and a UK size 8/10.
