hi guys, I've missed you! My husbands computer is still out, so this is the first chance I've had to write. Lori, you look great! Congrats on the skinny jeans! So we're all kind of platued. I once again, didn't lose, even after lowering carbs. I'm scared to eat more, but if it's healthy, I guess I could try it. What I do know is: I'm not giving up. My skinny jeans are in my closet and they miss me! Leila, are you thinking about upping your calories? This "happy weight" thing makes a lot of sense. OK, I have to give the computer back to hubby. Don't give up on me guys, as soon as he gets back his computer, I'll be on every day. Alison

Hi guys - sorry i haven't written! My hubbie's computer broke down and he's having to use mine! I have to make this short, and hopefully write more later. No weight lost, again. However, I had 3 people this week tell me that I looked really good, which is not normal for me, and I am really seeing definition in my stomach and legs. So I actually feel really good. And I made it to the gym 4 times last week! I think I'm going to eat fewer carbs this week and see if that will kick start me again. I'm not a low carb fan, but I might be overdoing it, and I'll just make up the calories with protien. We'll see! Leila, I'm so glad you had a good birthday. I haven't had sushi in forever, now I have a craving! Lori, you are so close to your goal! It's wonderful! Talk soon! Alison |

HAPPY BIRTHDAY, LEILA!!! I hope you have a very special weekend! I'll weigh in as well. I was able to exercise 3 times this week, so no matter what, I'm happy. Lori, I wanted to let you know that I never log my exercise! I know that's bad, but I've seen a lot of complaints on the site about the accuracy, so I just don't do it. What I do try to do is work out as hard as I possibly can when I'm at the gym - that way I know I'm burning at least 300 plus. More with the classes I take. Leila, I'm going to look for a meal assembly place near you. No pressure at all; it's a total luxery, but it's a really fun date night and great to have those extra meals in the freezer if you've had a really hard day. And I'm feeling much better guys, my hubby says I don't have to leap into panic mode just yet and that I can calm down. Thanks for lettting me vent... Alison |

And one last thing: When the termite guy was in the attic, he put his foot through our ceiling, because he was like 300 pounds. Now we have a big hole in our ceiling! Crazy life I lead :-) ok - I'm done for today! |

Ok - I'm posting again Leila, I'm just like you! I don't like tofu either, but I love miso soup. tofu's just too rubbery for me. But it's just soy, and I do eat a lot of soy burgers, chicken patties, so I think I get the benefits. And I'm so happy that you like Ellie Krieger, too! I haven't done any of her desserts, but now with the whole foods nearby I will. Lori - if you want to try a few Ellie recipes I would recommend: Baked shrimp with tomatoes and feta, and spaghetti with turkey meatballs in spicy tomato sauce. So good! I'm sure Leila has a few favorites as well. I did want to tell you guys that I'm trying very hard not to stress eat right now. Here's why: We just found out that my hubby is going to lose his health insurance. Our Cobra cost to keep the insurance going is 1300.00 a month. Yeah. That's a lot of money. And we have to do the cobra because my husband has a pacemaker in his heart and no one will insure him! I also found out today that we have termites in our attic. We are covered for termites, but not this particular kind of termite, so that will also cost. And the car was about 1500.00 of fixes. Whew! I'm not on a pity party at all, but I think I might be looking at a serious life change here. I might have to get a job with a corporation just to get us health insurance that we can afford. I don't want to dump on you guys, but all of my girlfriends are in the same industry as my husband and me, so I can't talk about it with them. I'm a fighter, though - I'll make it work! I just don't want to gain 20 pounds in the process because I'm so stressed. I'll just ahve to run off all of my anxieties, right? Thanks for letting me vent! Alison |

Hi girls! made it to the gym Monday and tuesday, but had to go back to the car dealership this morning and was there til 1:00. Phooey! Lori, let me see if I can explain meal assembly. It's a new concept, but it's catching on fast with busy, exhausted women who are so tired of planning, shopping, chopping, cooking and cleaning up dinners. I think in Boston (that's where you are, right?) there's one called Dream Dinners. You go online and look at the menu they offer for that month and pick which dinners you want. Then schedule the day/time you'll go to assemble the meal. Each meal serves 4 to 6 people, but they allow you to split your meals so that they serve 2 to 3. When you arrive, they start you at a station where all of the ingredients for your first meal (say it's chicken dijon, for example) are all chopped and ready for you. And the recipe is right there, so you just measure out your ingredients into a ziplock back or foil tin, double wrap it and put it in the freezer. Then you move on to the next dinner you've chosen, and so on and so on. It's all fresh ingredients, just like homemade, but I get 20 meals done in about 2 hours (that's 10 meals divided). They give you wine while you're assembling and do all of the clean up for you. All I have to do is cook it at home, throw some salad together and we're all happy as clams. It's not as healthy as Ellie Krieger, but the calorie counts are all online so you can adjust. I only started doing it because Mackenzie eats differently from us and I always cook, rarely do take out, and it was like cooking a mini thanksgiving every night. It helped me get my sanity back. I don't cook those dinners every night, but it's nice to know they're in my freezer when it's going to be a busy day. Ok - long post. More later! :-) |

Hi guys - thanks for the encouragement. You're right, those girls were young and they probably worry over every little carrot stick the put in their mouths. So I'm on my "workout every day" kick this week to see if I can jumpstart my motabolism. Since I'm eating right, it should work. I worked out this morning with my neighbor. She runs and bikes and is in really good shape and she said that the class is challenging even for her! So I guess I'll see on Friday. I was feeling down and stuck there for awhile, but I seem to be back and motivated again. It's a good feeling! Lori - Congrats on getting an unsolicited compliment from your honey! I know that's a really good feeling! Also, Whole Foods is this amazing organic grocery store. They have tons of ready made foods (soups, dinners, salads) as well as every holistic remedy you could ever want. It's pricey (right, Leila?), but really wonderful.. Have you guys ever heard of Ellie Krieger? She's a nutritionist with a weekend show on Food Network. Her recipies are delicous and really low cal/healthy - when I make her food, my husband really loves it. I just thought I'd recommend her to you. Her recipies are free on the food network site, but she also has a lovely cookbook out. I also do those assembly meals every few months, like Simply Suppers or Let's Eat. Do you guys know what I'm talking about? If you have never done this and feel tired of cooking, I highly recommend it. They usually have all of the nutritional values on their websites, so you don't have to guess at the calories. Just though I'd share! Alison |

Hi guys, I'm back! For some reason the internet wouldn't connect from my hotel room, so I couldn't reach you guys. We had a great trip, I did really well with my eating, I think ( hard to count calories whenyou're traveling). But I'm not going to weigh in until next week! I really want to be a solid 126, and I don't thin I'm there yet. Sounds like you guys are doing great, Lori's back in the gym and taking care of the little ones, and Leila, you will be crowned Miss Most Inches Lost. Can you tell I've been around pageant girls? I have to tell you guys, I was in the hotel pool with Mackenzie, feeling pretty good about myself with what little weight I've lost, when suddenly there were about 30 of the most beautiful, skinny young women all jumping in the pool and drinking and partying and it was just crazy. And I knew they weren't the pageant girls because they were all rehearsing up in the ballroom. So guess what? They were HOOTERS GIRLS!!! Can you believe it? They were having some kind of Hooter's Calendar Girl convention! I just wanted to sink underwater and never come up! No - it wasn't that bad, it was just that they are these perfect Goddesses (there wasn't a real pair of boobies in the bunch, by the way) and it was a little hard to be around them. I was able to execise just twice this week - can't wait to just be in the groove and going 4, 5 times a week. Also a huge whole foods just opened up about 2 minutes from my house - I'll be able to get some really nice helathy products there that I haven't been able to get at my regular grocery store. Glad to be back online with you girls, and I'm so glad everyone's doing great!

Hi everyone! Yes, IPODS rock. I heard recently that there was a study of people who were walking off their weight, and the people who were listening to music lost double what the non-music listeners lost. We natururally work out to the rythym of the music which is faster than we would normally work out. Lori - just imagine leila on one shoulder and me on the other encouraging you when you start convincing yourself no gym today. It will cycle around and you will start liking it again. Or find a gym class that you love, something different! I went to my powercuts class this morning and worked my butt off - it was wonderful. Stomach, legs, arms, chest and jumprope. It had been too long and I really missed it. And I was thinking about you two and thinking how great it would be if we all lived in the same town and could work out together. Wouldn't that be fun? We did see fireworks on the 4th out on a lake, a big city sponsered event. Well - my child became "velcro girl", completely freaked out and wrapped herself around me. Poor thing, I should have prepared her better. Her Dad scooped her up and took her away for some cotton candy. But no harm done - on the way home she'd already processed it into a good memory saying "I saw fireworks!" It was so cute! So... I'm going to Miami tomorrow. I can't keep up with the trips! This one is fun - my husband directs the Miss Florida USA pageant, and they put him up in the nicest hotel (nicer than anything we'd normally stay in :-)! So, of course, we join him! I'm not nervous about going overboard - it's easy to eat healthy whenever I go. I think it's because the hotel is filled with the most beautiful, young girls in the state. It's a really good motivator. And you should see the men! The fall all over themselves, it's hilarious! I should be able to check in with you guys - I'll bring my laptop. EAt well both of you, and LOri, go to they gym, you'll be so happy you did! Alison |

Hi Everybody! Well... I weighed myself on Saturday and I was 127 -so at least I'm not 128 like I was mid-week. I realized something a few days ago. I kept eating my 1300 calories, even though I wasn't exercising! that's obviously why I stopped losing. Now that Mac's swim stuff is done, I SWEAR I'm back on the wagon and will exercise regularly! That should do it. I know I was "swimming" with my daughter, but it's not the same as working out - it's just holding her and making sure she doesn't drown :-) I did great on the 4th, really watched it, kept my portions in control. I PIGGED out yesterday at my birthday dinner, but it was a Thai restaraunt and I'd been lean on the calories all day to plan for my pig out, so hopefully not a lot of damage done. But gosh, I was really uncomfortable last night. I'm used to that light eating now so it's not even worth it to pig out - Lori, did you have the same experience? Were you uncomfortable? Leila - Congrats girl! You are doing so awesome! I am aware that we were trying to lose 10 by July and here it is! I'd better get busy, I've only lost 4 or 5! Thanks for the birthday wishes, girls :-) I got money for new clothes which I will spend when I've lost that 10! Alison |

Hi everyone - just checking in because my internet was down yesterday. My step-daughter came back from a volunteer vacation in Peru, so we were pretty busy with her wonderful stories of her trip. But boy, did she miss American food! She had to eat Guinea Pig (it's their "fancy" dish there, served to honored guests!) Couldn't do the gym yesterday, but Mackenzie went to bed early, so I was able to walk a mile after that. Just trying to do some cardio every day to get my motabalism up, now that I think I'm in the early stages of Menopause. I will go to the doctor and check things out as soon as I'm able. I've been good all week, so it will be interesting to see what the scale says tomorrow. Then we're going to an all day BBQ! I know what everyone's bringing so I'm going to sit down and plan my food - otherwise I'll graze all day, and you know how that is! Here's hoping I can stick to it! Maybe I'll work out early in the morning and burn a ton, so I can relax and have fun tomorrow! Have a great weekend everyone, and good luck with the eating! Alison |

Thanks guys for cheering me on. It was later in the afternoon that i weighed, so maybe that was it. I will get my hormones checked and see what's up. Leila - hooray for you - you are so "in the zone" right now. You're an inspiration! My blister is gone, and I'm just wearing different shoes now :-) Lori - thanks for the advice. You're an inspiration, too - I didn't know you went thru chemo. That means you are truly a survivor - that is so wonderful! Good night girls Alison

Emergency, emergency... I don't know why I did it, but I stupidly got on the scale at the gym today. I guess because I've been working out (well, I worked out Monday and today :-) ) and I was just SURE I'd lost more weight. Guess what? BACK UP TO 128!!!!! And I've been good, you guys!!!!! How could that happen? I guess the point is that we need to stick to our weigh in days, cause the scale really goes up and down a lot within any given week. But boy, it really freaked me out. Another weird thing is that I didn't get my period in May or June. I took a preg test, and I'm not pregnant, so I guess I'm starting early menopause . This is not a huge surprise to me. I had a hard time conceiving. My fertility doc told me I had some issues and might start menopause early. Lori - maybe you could advise being a nurse - could that have something to do with having a hard time losing the weight? Alison

I don't usually reply to journal posts, but I just had to tell you that the personal trainer sounds very extreme to me. She totally should have congratulated you for all of the things that are WORKING in your life! Maybe she doesn't understand that when you're a Mom, you can't do the salad thing every night! If I did that, my husband and kids would be roaming around the kitchen all night looking for more to eat. Plus, we're not trying to be fashion models here; our eating is supposed to be fun and work with and for our lives! Sounds like you're doing everything great, you just happened to get assigned a Nazi at the gym. Just find someone else who really listens to you (ask the manager at the gym) and you'll get advice that you can really use. Congrats - Alison |

Lori, hi, we missed you. Does it help to know that I would kill to be 110.4? Leila, you poor thing, I'm going to mail you a block of ice! They should give you your money back at that gym! I hope they fix things soon. My only exercise this week was a walk, but I got a blister and had to limp home barefoot! It was weird because I was wearing socks and shoes that I always walk/run in. Oh, well. My daughters swim teacher wants her to go one more (extra) week to work on floating. UGH! It's so inconvenient and has really cut into my workouts, but what can I do? I have a pool, and I have to keep my daughter safe. So I planned ahead for Monday, and packed both my swimwsuit AND my gym stuff. I know it's a lot of time at the gym, but so be it. We can do anything for a week, right? Leila - I adore sushi. I totally crave it sometimes, and back before my daughter was born, my husband and I used to go to our favorite sushi restaraunt for Thanksgiving. Isn't that crazy? I also love indian food! Here's to a new and healthy week, girls! Alison |

Hi Lilith - welcome! I'm also an emotional eater, and I think that Leila said she's one too. The cool thing is that after doing the calorie counting, a lot of my cravings went away. Have you lost any weight yet? Leila - CONGRATS!!! That's so awesome. You must be so pleased. I'm happy too, because I lost another 1/2 a pound!!!! I'm 126.5. I'm THRILLED, especially since I haven't exercised this week. I was dreading getting on the scale, but yay, it worked out! Lori, where did you go? - we miss you! Here's an article on zigzagging calories that I found - it is for when you're doing everything right but still can't lose. It makes sense, but we're all losing right now, so it's not for us.. http://www.articlesbase.com/fitness-articles/ zig-zag-calories-for-weight-loss-74803.html |

Leila - you're doing better than anyone right now! I haven't been to the gym all week, but this is a temporary setback. Once Mackenzie's out of swim class I'll be back on track. It's only been two weeks but it's derailed me. I am proud of myself, though, for keeping track of my calories. The last two nights I've had neighbors come by and ask me and Mac to dinner (hubby is out of town) and I've had beer both nights. (that explains why I haven't posted!) But I've eaten very light both nights and that, again, is a new habit that I've picked up here on CC. The bad part is.. I have a sneaking suspicion that I'm not going to have dropped any weight this week. I guess we'll know tomorrow! :-) I've been clicking around on the message boards and I keep seeing everyone talking about zigzagging their calories. It's usally mentioned with someone trying to break through a plateau in their weight loss. Do you guys know what that means? Maybe a moderator can tell us! Keep it up, Leila - you're my inspiration right now! |

Lori: I go through that, too! For awhile, I'm completely addicted to the gym, and then it's like torture. I have a couple of theories: 1) The gym is hard work! By it's very nature it's an effort, and if you're already tired, it's hard to convince yourself that expending energy is going to make you more energetic in the long run. 2) This might just apply to me: Being the best you can be is a little scary - to actually reach the goal you've been thinking about for a long time. What comes after that? Will you be able to maintain it? Who will you be when you're not worrying about your weight anymore? Sometimes we sabatoge our own efforts in subtle ways to that we can stay on familiar ground. For me it's almost like I'm 2 people: The one who knows what's good for me and wants to be my best possible self, and the one who undermines everything I've done. The question is: Who's going to win...? That's my dimestore psychology... what do you think?

Hi - Lori I'm so jealous! Fried Seafood? YUM! but you deserve it - you've done so great, and I bet your body really wanted the food! Do you guys have something in mind that you're going to do for yourself once you've hit your goal weights? New clothes? Dinner out at your favorite place? I'm having such a hard time getting to the gym! Mackenzie has her swim class there and it feels like I'm living there already - we swim in the "fun pool" after her class as a reward (it's survival swim, so she hates it), so I'm there for 3+ hours if I work out, too. Well - I guess if I want to lose, I just have to make myself go. Gosh, I sound so complainy!

Congrats! You've come such a long way! It doesn't sound to me like you've been going "on and on" about your loss to your mom. Discussing your loss every day is a bore, but every 2 weeks is really appropriate, so it really is something going on with her. It sounds like you have a close relationship with her, so I bet she comes around. Luckily for you, you don't have to say a thing. Your weight loss will continue to speak for itself :-) Keep it up! |

Hi girls- I didn't do so great on Saturday - I had a sitter but had to run a thousand errands. How can there be so many errands? I got stuck shopping and was very hungry - the only place to eat anything was a starbucks, so I got the only lowfat item there; a rasberry coffee cake. I felt so guilty, but I was starving! And can I tell you? It was DELICIOUS! But I guess that's the point of all this, right? You can go off your program occasionally and it will be ok. I didn't even have time to log yesterday, but I felt good this morning (Sunday) and have started the day off with 2 poached eggs and some melon. Lori, you've inspired me with the poached eggs, I have them all the time now. My biggest problem is still getting to the gym - some of this is because of my child's schedule camp and survival swim at 1 in the afternoon (so hot). But that's just for one more week and then things will calm down. Can't wait to hear how your weekends went! Alison |

Hi Leila - good for you, making yourself go to the gym. I know it's hard, but it feels extra good when you go anyway. I went on Tuesday, but couldn't squeeze it in today - too many errands to run. I weighed myself on Tuesday and I was 128, so I gained .25 a pound, which I don't think is too bad for having been on a long weekend at the beach. I guess I'll weigh myself on Friday, too. I really want to hit that 127 mark, so I'll do the elliptical until I'm sweating like a maniac. Lori - I read your profile and was curious if your stomach has gotten flatter with your weight loss? I have a lower belly "pooch" as well that never seems to get flat, even when I'm at a low weight. Has anyone on Calorie Counters given you any advice on this? I can't really wear the new, flowy shirts that are in fashion right now, because I truly look pregnant in them! Ok everyone, have a great night. Alison |

Hi everyone, I'm back! We had a wonderful vacation, very relaxing, and the weather was beautiful. I did fairly well with eating! The new habits I've been forming while posting here kicked in, and while I may not have lost, I definitely didn't gain. I just don't feel like overeating or snacking my heart out anymore. It was a real change for me. LEILA: Yay! Wasn't it all worth it? I'm so proud of you for hanging in there! 2 pounds is great! This was the biggest thing on my mind when I came back to check the post. I was afraid if you hadn't lost, you might give up :-) So I'm very happy. Julie, hi - so nice to see someone new on the boards! I'm 42 (almost 43) and it's funny that we should be talking about menopause, cause I just missed my time of the month for the first time ever and I'm not pregnant. So I might be in the early stages. I'll look at the book you recommend at the bookstore. I'm glad everyone had a nice fathers day - I got up early and made a nice brunch for the family and we ate out outside looking at the beach. Then I didn't want my husband to do any work so I packed us all up and cleaned the rental - we had lunch watching the cruise ships board (salad and ahi tuna - no bread!) and came home where I unpacked, took care of the little one and wouldn't let hubbie do a thing. I was SO exhausted :-) It took me yesterday to recover, that's why I didn't write! Sorry, long post - Mackenzie (my 2 year old, Julie) is taking swim lessons at the Y at 1:00 every day for the next 2 weeks, so it's a good excuse to go every day! I can't do my class but I can hop on the eliptical and burn, burn burn. I'll weigh myself today and see if I did any damage. Great to be back everyone - I missed you guys! Alison

Hi girls - wow! You've been chatting up a storm! Lori - so glad to hear the baby's doing well. It's scary when they lose weight, and always disappointing when a baby has to have a little formula, but thank goodness it's there as a backup. Leila - I'm glad it cooled off for you - heat waves are just awful, I know. Thanks for the advice guys, for my vacation. I will stay very hydrated and eat lots of salad and not go crazy. I think I told you that my husband is so supportive, and he loves eating healthy, so he won't do anything to hurt my goals. I found my suit and it hides my butt, which is all I ask for these days :-) I was very proud of myself today, I totally didn't feel like going to the gym, but I went anyway to my powercuts class, and it was great. It does make the whole day go great! I confess I hopped on the scale, since I knew I was missing Friday, and no change. But that's ok - I think we're all a lot healthier and in more control than when we started this post, don't you? Well, it's almost 1 in the morning - I'd better get to bed if I want to be a nice mommy tomorrow and enjoy the day. I probably won't post until Sunday evening, so have a great weekend girls! Alison |
