I hate classes w a passion. Too bad there's not a 24-hour fitness gym - none back east at all, from what I can see. I was a member at Bali once. Not so impressive. 24-hour really out shined them; here out west. I'm a treadmill running addict so I enjoy the benefit of a million "mills" and vast array of Tvs dangling from the ceilings to watch. Sorry, no help at all then. |

SUN! Forgive me tonight because I am in a bad mood. I hope I misunderstood you when you said: Dismissing someone elses healthy efforts is just bad energy. – I hope you weren’t referring to me, because I never said anyones healthy efforts were bad. I was speaking of the South Beach Diet's phase II as very healthy. Later in your post, and from your quote: Speaking of carbs, in 2004 research by the U.S. Center for Disease Control (CDC) concluded: Americans, especially women, are getting fatter because they eat much more of everything than they did 30 years ago, and carbs are the biggest culprit. I read the entire article and I think you need to go back and read it too - instead of picking out the paragraphs that beneft your defense. Here you go: The majority of the increase in calories is from an increase in carbohydrate intake," said Jacqueline Wright, a CDC epidemiologist and study author. And she doesn't mean fruits and vegetables. It's the cookies, bagels, chips, pasta and soda that are to blame. When I spoke of carbs, I DID NOT mean cookies either. I clearly said; GOOD CARBS LIKE IN PHASE II. Women need GOOD Carbs for a variety of reasons.

I'm afraid Mary, Mary is right. A well balanced calories in - calories out diet is a true lifestyle change. Many people fail on this diet based on phase I. Phase I is rigid and does work. 3-years ago I lost 21-lbs on the diet. I stayed in phase I - as many do and finally one day - I HAD to eat. From that day forward I gained. Phase II and II IS a healthy way of eating. good carbs, veggies and lean proteins. If we all slowed down the pace, and started in phase II there would be a better long term success rate on this diet. I think many experts in the field of nutrition and training have been trying to tell us this years. Some of us have proved to ourselves that they are right!! Dead right. Not to offend those who are having great success. It works for some, and not for others. Success probably depends on loosely termed 'addictions' if you will. If you have that sugar addict thing, the sweets and breads will always be hard to deny. And you shouldn't have to. Recently I lost 8-lbs on this diet, going off one day and gained back the 8. In the next few days I lost the 8-lbs again and THEN gained 10. So I looked good for a day or two. Now I am following an organic like diet - no processed foods, GOOD grains w lots of fiber (not good grains w little or no fiber - there is plenty of multi grain w little fiber - roughage yes, fiber no), lots of vegetables and actually some lean red meat. I lost 3.5 good solid lbs for good, eating 20% good fats/30% protein/50% good carbs. 30g fiber. The high protein diets are great quick fixes. If the book were so successful, Dr. Angstrom would have written another - or more books, or at least update. I don't THINK this has happened since 2004? Sorry my friends, I don't mean to turn on the plan - but it's not reality. |

Just dropping in to say HI. I may have mentioned a few weeks ago that I had a cold. I got rid of the cold and was 'cold-free' for one week, although I did not feel up to par since. What followed was a viral flu which turned to bronchitis. Bleah. Not good, been at home some day, at work and straight home to bed, etc, and TODAY finally I am feeling like I may live, after all. So that's it. No SBD, no eating, some eating, eating some... you know how it is when you're sick. That's it. Just checking in to say Hi and see how ya'all are doing! |

What am I going to do with the money? Too funny y'all - it would have come out of this years property tax fund as it was. therefore, nothing. Hey Rachael! Water weight is the devil. the extension of my plans/woes/solutions is: My club offers what I believe, is free tennis lessons, or for a nominal fee. My sister has taken up the sport again - saw her yesterday at her birthday party - lost some good solid weight getting back into tennis. Since she plays, and my club offers lessons - it seems a no brainer to take up the sport and have someone to play/practice with. She doesn't know of this plan... ::wind:: but she will appreciate playing here at the club. As to how much and what I ate at the party?? Stay tuned for another post. |

I cheated again last night with a Skinny Cow ice cream cone and some Reece's mini cups. No damage on the scale, in fact this morning a 186. Therefore, now 192/186. Lots to do today but sitting here enjoying coffee and ... DiNg... 1 part instant oatmeal w freeze dried blueberries, 1 part grits And VERY little hot water. Firm, but tasty. Why the carbs? I've consciously - with a LOT of thought - decided to run a 5K a day - at least 5-days a week and do my 'lifting' and 'squats routine every other day. A smaller body without the toning still presents the same problem - over the waist band blubber. Low rise pants work with some types of 'tops' and NOT EVEN with other types of tops. The same with High rise pants and some kinds of tops. Everyone need the carbs for the cardio, even if they do a good deal of cardio now, and it is recent - there is a wall to be hit. Therefore carbs. GOOD carbs. Another thing I noticed was that even with a huge protein breakfast - the 250 calorie smoothie, the Canadian bacon and cheese things... I was still starving ~~ reminding me of yesterdays M&M's incident!!!!!!!! My dream is to be able to throw either on without worry and "go". I'm so sick of standing in my closet for hours saying .......... Hummmmmmmmmm and Damn. So I'll still be here focusing on SB II, whole foods and EXERCISE! Off to it - a party to attend. Last night I shucked 40-ears of corn, made garlic dill butter, made an tequila lime marinade for 40-chicken breasts, but even when I cut the recipe in half - the marinade) I only used half of that. Good thing - the recipe called for 5 cups of tequila. I think not cost wise. Therefore, 2-cups tequila 1 cup lime, bunch of cilantro and garlic, a little liquid smoke, some ginger, vegetable oil ~ Into the Brevell blender and ~ Voila!! EYE is better and I am in mascara today. THANK Goodness I did not shell out the $160.00 |

Weight at this late hour is 187.5 which means it will be 186 in the am. That will put me back in the same loss I had by last Friday. Tomorrow is Saturday, therefore I am a day ahead. Going to a big Mexican Fiesta Themed party tomorrow - hope to stay off the tortillas and stick to the chicken and carne asada. I don't like Spanish rice but so no worries there. Could fall with the ice cream cake and some flour tortillas. But Sunday I am going to stop eating the beef and go back to chicken and focus more on cardio than just eating proteins. I look so amazing from the stomach down, but enough fat in my system to keep the "blubber" from falling off. It makes perfect sense - get smaller but stay jiggly. Therefore a more exercising approach to this - while the weight is down and falling. I may just fall into phase II early so that I can have the berries smoothies and cut out the milk in the other. Cut out the fat in the beef, and cut out the cheeses. GOTTA GO LEANER - MUCH LEANER. Kept thinking about (rachael?) mentioning the cholesterol and her dr. And the responses about seeing a new doctor... lol. It depends on what type of proteins one eats on this diet and I don't know what this person was eating - but maybe it was too much beef and cheese products - again I don't know - but it got me to thinking.. ... and that's a dangerous thing. What else got me thinking was the amount of time I have been spending in the closet trying on clothes. Here I am with these lean legs, lean and narrow butt and this freekin' muffin top and back fat - which keeps me from wearing anything buttoned or zipped up. I'm upset and feel like going and getting some Moo moo's. And that segued into me thinking that I'm eating too much fat on this diet and not exercising anywhere NEAR seriously enough. Not even. Vent over - thanks for reading. found something nice to wear (that will do) and now it's bedtime. Food today ... Protein drink, canadian bacon rounds, bag of M&M's. RB sandwich (yes bread - but just rb and cheese & mustard and lettuce and pickles) and that's about it. |

EYE doctor results. I have a tear on my cornea - that is - it's scratched. He put some medicated drops on it - antibiotic and sent me off with a prescription. Took said prescription to drug store thinking: why go all the way to kaiser pharmacy when I can get it right here - what could it cost? 20.00? Call it Of course now it seems fine since HE treated it. So for now ~ nix on the prescription. |

Right, GETFIT. Fiber it up. I mentioned fiber in an/some earlier posts. It's SO important and something we don't get from sb foods. A little, yes from the veggies - but so little. I have never kidded myself by thinking that a tsp or two a day of Fiber Sure, or Fiber-com would substitute the work grains does as fiber, but still it helps 'move things along' in the digestive tract. When I diet the slower way - I get my carbs from gains in particular and not fooled by 'wheat' bread and 'multi-grain' bread as fibrous. Mostly the multi-grain (while excellent for you) is roughage (the barky-er the better) but read your labels - otten they contain 0 to 2g fiber. I won't purchase a bread; white, wheat, or whole grain unless it's over 6g per slice. Education on reading labels is SO important. It's actually what brought me here to CC - I found the label reading online. The rest is history. Fiber adds up and it's soooo important. In the meantime - as I continue with this diet... I just finished an 8% fat extra lean Angus burger with brie cheese melted on top. I made it at home so there was no hidden salts and fats. Freekin YUM. I started to get the lean turkey burgers but you all probably know that a low fat beef burger has less than a turkey burger. Here again is where education is so important- but yes - the turkey is better for you 'over all'. In this phase, I am at about 80% proteins coming from beef, chicken, fat free ricotta cheese, fat free protein powder smoothies and jello. With the meats and cheeses in the picture - I try to stay as low fat as possible. Therefore I traded the turkey burger and 1 g less of fat for a little more cholesterol and a little more flavor. 2-weeks ladies and gents - 2-weeks to better eating so let's do our best during that time-frame. |

lilreditalian - Hey! Wow, and don't go off crying!
"I have also been told to back off SB...my cholesterol levels are off the charts. this concerns me (as well as your health...biopsy.... et al. what you said about blood work and cholesterol really does concern me, and it has in the background. I'm going to accomplish what I need by 10/6 and back off and into phase II which really is to monitor good old fashioned healthy eating. I'd rather do more exercise and keep the blood good. And I have not had a physical since I went away to summer camp in 1965. LMAO - but not too far from the truth. ~~~ SUN: start wt here is 192/189. it WAS 192/186 last week.... but S**T happens! Therefore, current loss is 3.5. Last week was 6.5. :( |

Here she is! Finally better, but woe was me as I was big time sick. I went to work Monday - feeling horrific and wondered how I would endure getting out of bed, much less showering, et. al. NORMALLY I would have called in sick, but it was the boss' first day. So I ate while sick. Not gonna lie to ya. I gained most of the six back, but happy to know I can lose it easily again. I'd rather stick to it this time because I would REALLY like to be on phase ii - I miss my berries smoothies. Therefore, in the meantime I'm having the egg white protein powder in the am with ice - where I make 'snow' in the new blender, then add 1% milk - about a half cup, 1 heaping TBS of cocoa powder (not nestles quick - more like baking powder and SBD legal!), some "fiber source' and ... flip the switch to 'smoothie' and out comes a chocolate smoothie which is Starbucks comparable (in form - a good even and thick milkshake-like blend). Today I had one mini Reese's cup. Angstrom says you can have 1 hershey's kiss in phase 1. he also says you can have peanut butter. So what's the harm in the little peanut butter cup substitution? I can't think of any. I also had a bed of spinach greens, and chicken for lunch. I had my Canadian bacon rounds w low fat Swiss melted on top and tonight - some chicken patty thing - i dunno - it's like a chicken meatloaf shaped like a hamburger. Menh. AND an artichoke. Looking forward to my weigh in in the AM. I also did my weights stuff in the garage. Some of it. So hopefully.............I'm back on track, on SBD, and back in good health. |

"According to this article, by having lemon water and pineapple for breakfast, soup at lunch, snacking on egg whites and chicken for dinner in combination with strength work and treadmill runs with her personal trainer three times a week. I'd be so bored eating what this article claims she does. " No surprises here. That is pretty much a basic high protein diet with exercise. Aside from the pineapples (sugar) I don't read about bread; refined sugars and flour |

Welcome loxottica!! Just a quickie - checking in today - spent the day in bed, yesterday. :( At work now and weighed in horribly and reluctanlty. I drank TWO big bottles of pellegrino so a lot of it is hopefully water retention - although I did eat salty foods yesterday - which lead to the water. Talk about full circle. - take not to that, lilreditalian |

OHIO - every diet book I've read, every rag mag celeb diet, every thing I hear everywhere, from everyone - trainers, authors etc .. you get it - say that... A cheat day is very important and will not set you back - (cheat size depending). So go for it. Personally, I call it a re-feed. I eat healthy, or a little or healthy and a little with success - and then once in a while you say UNCLE! I need food. You eat it, you enjoy it, you gain a lb of sodium and retention - little from sodium and sugar - but remember - it takes 3600-calories to gain a real lb. Therefore I eat, burp, and move on to diet business as usual. As for me - the lying to myself justification for self sabotage this weekend is 1) due to a cold, 2) due to the fact that I lost a whopping 6.5-lbs in 5-days - Ate bread and cheese on Friday night and only gained .75-lb... How bad can that be> lemmie count, 6.5 in one week, + 1 or 2 from weekend bad (good bad - not crazy bad) behavior, and then back on the diet starting tomorrow, where I will be at the "i lost 5-lbs" last week (instead of 6.5), and will lose another 6 next week (by then I'll be down 11-lbs, and in reality - by the time of the wedding in 2-weeks (I thought it was NEXT weekend - imagine my delight in that), the dress I plan to wear, which fits now, should look amazing on me by then! AND I should be around the 20-lb loss range. I can't even fathom it. So the deal is: Weigh in Tomorrow - get back on the SDB train and no cheating until Saturday. It's a big birthday party bash and I think I can avoid the chips (eat em' but don't love 'em) and have a piece of cake - I'll be okay. Goal next week is 7-lbs loss by Saturday. Probably up 1 or, 2 that weekend, another 7-lbs by the following Saturday - and that make oh..........let's go crazy - 15-more lbs by 10-6. 172 by 10-8. :::egad:: Next.... |

I believe I am the first this year to get the cold/flu. Miserable today but I never get sick on the whole - a good 'being sick' only every few years. Never had a flu shot. Of all the luck, I will be sick all weekend and likely through Monday. I've never had a sick day at work, or been late. Would KILL to be sick on Monday, but alas - I have a new boss arriving.

Rachael! You could do what I did, too - check it out at the library for a refresher course. I keep forgetting but I'm going to copy the phase lists of foods you can have, and foods to avoid. A few other tagged pages I wanted to keep. I don't need the recipes and I have the ricotta cheese/almond extract/chopped almonds, nutrasweet, and Cinnamon - DOWN PAT. HORRIFIC COLD, I HAVE. Therefore to bed. My mom and I still went errand shopping for a family member birthday - we had dinner out and I didn't concern myself much about food, although was good and I had salmon, broccoli and .....OMG This is so funny! I just this minute remembered that I ordered the french fries - I was very specific about them being the skinny kind and real crisp. And as I am writing this.... I realized they brought the vegetables by mistake. LMAO - that is too funny. I was like..................I don't remember eating french fries! A GOOD THING, AND TOOOOOOOOOOO FUNNY. I didn't even notice. Therefore, it was grilled salmon and veggies. And bread. ::gasp:: OHIO - You're 100% right. It is SO behind me. Totally. ::thumbs up::

Thanks for the sympathy post regarding my tow. I'm going to contact the bar http://www.winestealssd.com/ on University Avenue - and tell them (nicely) that while I had an amazing time at their establishment, it would be of benefit to their patrons to post signs which are specific that the parking is NOT for their establishment - even though the signs are attached to it. I hate to say it but I hope that the person whom we were celebrting about - my now past boss going into a new position - who told me to be sure and park there .. I hope she makes a gesture by giving me a few bucks on Monday. I think that would be 'the right thing to do' since she was so adamant that it was okay to park there. But I do have a mind of my own... |
