Weight Loss 25 pounds or less to lose... Nov 21 2007

Wow, I haven't been on the website in a while.  I was blocked from the site at work, but it is back now.  Well, I haven't logged food in a while, but I did step on the scale the other day and it didn't show a change.  I would say that is a good thing since it is TOTM and usually pack on the water weight at this time.  I will weigh again next week and check in at that time.  I just wanted to make an appearance and let it be known that I am still around.

Good luck to everyone on the weigh loss journeys through the holidays and have a Happy Thanksgiving.

I haven't been logging my foods in the past couple of days.  I have been careful of what I eat and how much I eat though.  I also haven't weighed myself.  This last week has been my week off from the gym.  I will start again tomorrow.  I did step on the scale this morning (first time in a week) and I now stand at 160.  Now that I gave my muscles a week off to rest and rebuild it is time to hit the gym hard again and hopefully I can continue to lose those inches.

Still at 161 and very happy.  Although I didnt lose any weight this week I dropped 1/4 inch off my waist and 1/4 inch off each thigh.  Lunges and squats and all the other weight lifting I am doing is paying off.

It is VERY important that you get those knees looked at.  I abused mine for several years playing basketball and now I regret not going to a doctor sooner.  My knees (mainly the right one) are painful.  Going down the stairs in my house it sounds like a bag of popcorn popping.  I can feel it grind all the time and now I am limited on some things I can do.  Sometimes just walking up a hill is painful.  I have good days and bad days.  The doctors found that my knee cap was "popping" out of place and didn't travel smoothly over its intended path.  They sent me to a physical therapist and all i can say is I wish I went sooner.  If you go to the doctor they can find out what is going on and prevent serious injury.

Vicereine,

I would take that to management and complain.  That was extremely unprofessional.  I wonder how many other times that so called trainer has done that to other individuals.

I used to have toe numbness too.  Make sure that are pushing through your heel and not so much on the ball of your feet.  I found that it helps with me and I also wiggle my toes if they start to get that numb feeling.

I would go with the treadmill.  Don't bother with the equipment that "targets" the abs.  There is no such thing as spot reduction.  You can also do so much more on a treamill then the ab lounger.  You can change speeds, incline, walk back wards on it or side steps.
Fitness Cardio and weight training... Oct 31 2007

I have heard that it depends on your goals.  Are you more focused on endurance or do you want muscles and strength?  Which ever one you do first you will be doing with all your energy and be able to perform better on.  If you did cardio and then went and did weight training you would be tired and wouldn't lift as much.  From what I have been told it is better to separate the two entirely.

I recently started focusing on weights and lifting heavy more then cardio (I maybe do 60-90 minutes of cardio a week) and have seen better results.

Check this website out.  She can teach you how to make a fairly cheap medicine ball weighted to how ever much you want.  Also, there is no need to set foot in a gym.  Find some heavy things around the house to lift.  Get an empty milk jug and fill it with sand for example, or just water.  Get creative and use your imagination.

Hope this helps some.

To me it seems like you are on "burn out mode".  Why so much cardio?  Why not just go full out with a stregth training routine?  That is just my opinion anyway.  I don't do any more then maybe 1 hour of cardio a week, but then again I hate doing cardio.  I love-LOVE lifting weights and have seen the best results when I go in and challenge myself and lift heavy.  The guys at the gym say "lift heavy or go home" and I have adopted that thinking and started seeing great changes in my body.  You will be surprised at what your body can look like and feel like when you add some good weight lifting.

Also, from what I understand your abs do recover quicker then any other muscle group, but they still need their rest in order to make any gains.

I don't get very peevy about nakedness or any of this, but what really frosts me is jockeying for the best - i.e. closest - spots in the parking lot.  I almost got run over the other day by some silly twit who didn't want to walk an extra few feet.  Sheesh - the whole point is to WORK OUT!  So it's not going to hurt anyone to walk a little further if there aren't any spaces right in front.

I have noticed a lot of that as well.  I always laughed to myself when i see these people trying to get the closest spot to the front door of the gym.  I avoid the mess and park across the street.  I do find it quite hilarious.

Motivation How this happened???? Oct 29 2007

This happens to me after every weekend.  During the week I watch what I eat and I restrict my carbs.  On the weekend I allow myself to eat more and more specifically I up my carb intake for two days.  The result of me doing that is putting on water weight.  On monday I jump back to my regular routine and continue that for the next five days.  The weight will go back down.   My weight always goes back to normal by Tuesday and by the weekend I have usually lost another pound with the couple I gained on the weekend.  If I haven't lost a pound I most often have lost inche(s).  I also tend to hold more water weight after a day of heavy weight lifting.

Don't give up.  Everybody has "bad" days and everybodies weight fluctuates up and down.  It is the size of your body and being over all healthy that counts, not the number on the scale.

Foods Some foods make me nausiated why is that? Oct 29 2007

I get the same reaction to the foods you listed.  Forget about eating a banana.  They make me so sick.  My mom is the same way.  Like you mentioned I can have them in something else, but can never eat them alone.  Also I have similar reactions to green veggies.  To list a few....broccoli, lettuce, and bell peppers.  I have always associated this to having IBS.  Some times I can eat them with out problems.  I find that the closer I am to TTOM the more of a negative reaction my stomach has to those foods.

#4 checking in again.  I stepped on the scale this morning and it read 161.  I didn't believe it so I kept checking and rechecking.  Each time was the same.  I hope it isn't a fluke.  It shouldn't be.  I have been earting healthy and working my butt off at the gym....literally I guess.

I am so sorry to hear about your beloved dog.  I too just lost my childhood friend on Saturday.  He was also hit by a car.  Last year my husband lost his best friend of 14 years, a German Shepard named Isis.  It takes a long time to adjust.  You never get over it, but you can look back and remember the good times you shared.  My husband found comfort in going to websites that offer support for losing your pets.  It really helped him heal and become a happy person again.  In a couple of months we will be looking to add a new furry family member and he still finds it hard to accept she is gone and it has been over a year.  http://www.petloss.com/  This website has helped a lot and we still light a candle every monday night to celebrate Isis's life and to remember her.

At the gym I go to we actually had a lady running, not walking, running on the treadmill while clipping coupons.  Needless to say she ended up falling (hard) and an ambulance had to be called for precautions.  I am sorry, but how dumb do you have to be to know that running with scissors (something you are taught as a kid) is not safe?  I don't think she will be doing that again any time soon.
Weight Loss Number Snobs! Oct 19 2007

I agree with you.  I used to be all wrapped up in how much I weigh and what the scale says, but I know that it is not a true measure of my fitness, health, or how I look.  I still weigh myself, but don't really rely on it too often.  When I don't see the scale budge or if it starts creeping back up I will pull out the tape and take some measurements.

When I first started this journey of mine I actually gained weight (from all the weight lifting).  Then I dropped about 5 pounds and was stuck there for several weeks.  The whole time I was shrinking though.  I weigh maybe 8 pounds less then when I started, but I have lost a little over two inches off my waist alone.  To me that feels better then to see the number on the scale move down.

I agree with you Brandy about the east side of the state.  I have lived in the Spokane and Cd'A Idaho area my whole life and wouldn't trade it for anything.  I lived in Florida for three months and Texas for two months and hated every day of it.  I love the NW and everything that it has to offer.  I agree that not enough money is spent in this area, even though it is really needed, but I would never choose to live on the west side.

Alright, week 2 check in for me.  I am now down to 163.  Yippee!!  I knew it had to come sooner or later.  I was figuring it was muscle weight since I have been lifting heavy and hard.  I knew I was doing good because I kept losing inches so I wasn't too worried, but I stepped on the scale today and it was still a good feeling.  My short term goal is to break 160 before my husband comes home from Korea in three weeks.
The Lounge My dog was just diagnosed with having Addisons...questions Oct 12 2007

I am sorry to hear that your dog is sick.  To me pets are a big part of my family and they are treated like my children.  I do not have answers for you on the diagnosis or even the kinds of food Bear should be eating.  However, I just want you to know (and who ever else reads this) that no matter what you switch to, stay away from the Nutro-Max "all natural" dog food.  I tried it after needing to switch my dog to a more natural food and after hearing the sales pitch about it in the store.  I had no such luck with it and it made my dog extremely ill.  I took her to the vet and she said that she hears that from a lot of other people and she doesn't recommend it either.  As soon as I switched her food back she was a happy dog again and was back to playing.
Foods Allergic to lettuce? Oct 12 2007

I don't know if you can be allergic to lettuce or not, but I am kind of curious as to what other think.  I also get sick from things like lettuce as well as bananas, eggs, and sometimes yogurt makes me sick if I eat it too often.  I find it very frustrating since I love those foods, but find it difficult to eat them sometimes.  I can have the items on rare occasions, but I certainly can't make them a staple in my diet.

Sweets...tell your doctor's office to take a hike. You know what they call the person who graduates at the bottom of the class of MD's...Doctor...it doesn't mean they know their sphincter from a hole in the ground. Insist on an accurate weighing or go home and find another doctor.

Wish I could go see another doctor.  Believe me I really do, but i don't have a choice in the matter unless I pay out of my own pocket and I don't have that kind of money.  I am forced to go where "they" tell me to go.

I know how it is.  My work uniform weighs up to 10 pounds.  I wear steal toed boots, pants, shirt, jacket and sweat shirt on cold days and when I go to the doctor they wont let me even empty my pockets of the two sets of keys I carry around with me for work.  I have a lot of pockets in my work pants and they double as my purse since I can't really carry one around.  Then I always get "that look" from them when they see the number on the scale.  I once just emptied my pockets and lost 1.2 pounds.

Well I have postponed my weigh in for a couple of days since I had a crazy spike of 5 pounds in one day, so I wasn't able to tell I had actually lost anything since all the water weight and TTOTM.  The spike seems to have gone down.  I don't have a digital scale and pretty much have to guess what line the needle sits on so I am just going to say I didn't lose any weight and still sit at 165.  It was a tough call.  It was almost like the needle couldn't decide.  I am ok that I didn't lose weight this week.  I feel good and worked at lifting weights pretty hard at the gym this week.  So hard in fact that it hurt to sit, stand or lay down.  I am finally able to bend my legs again, sit down and roll over in bed with out wincing in pain.  LOL.  Someday my butt will defy gravity, oh yes.....it will.  I have been sitting at 165 for a while.  It will be nice to finally get below that.  Here's to next week.
