Health & Support I went to the bahamas, I drank the water, and now my stomach's going a little crazy Mar 12 2009

It could be anything from a stomach "bug" that may go away in a week or so, to just bacteria from bad food,  to actually being a parasite that may take more to get rid of. Sorry, not trying to scare you! But water from less sanitary areas is a common reason for intestinal parasites.

Just keep an eye on it, drink ALOT of water, stay away from dairy, lots of roughage, and maybe even try a half bottle of Mag Citrate (they sell it at Walgreen's.... really cheap...... it's going to make you poo everything out over about a day's time). If you drink the mag, make sure again you drink LOTS of water.

Call the doc if you see blood or any red at all, or you feel like something's really wrong. If you end up thinking you got a parasite, they'll ask you to bring a stool sample to the office. Other than that, I wouldn't worry about it too much.

if that was too much info, sorry - i'm a nurse and can't help it sometimes. :)

Weight Loss Quitting Smoking Feb 20 2009

I just quit smoking, the first of October - and I didn't gain any weight. I didn't LOSE any either :) but at least I didn't gain any. All I did was make sure that I wasn't snacking while trying to break the habit of a cigarette in my hand.... and ate normally. So IMO, I don't believe it makes you gain weight unless you go crazy with overeating to compensate.

I waited until now to let my metabolism adjust to diet/cc again.... and I've lost 4 pounds pretty easily.

So, it's do-able!

i used to work in a hygenist office.................

don't wear that retainer tonight. you can do more damage to your tooth enamel and shifting of your teeth by wearing it, as opposed to one night without a retainer.

and call them first thing in the morning!

Weight Loss Loss of appetite Oct 09 2007
23:30 (UTC)

thanks for all of the advice!  The last few days have been better, I seem to stay around 1200 if I only eat when I am hungry. That extra 200 I still have to force, but it's better than last week. I guess it was just a phase, thank goodness... I'm not trying to gain an eating disorder in this quest to lose weight :O)

Weight Loss I just binged AGAIN.... now what? Sep 19 2007

hey this might be a lame suggestion.... but it worked for me.

First of all, don't feel bad about it!! I think many people go through that phase. When I first started calorie counting a couple months ago, the first week or two I did the same thing.... either right before I went to bed, or sometimes I would even WAKE UP and eat!!! It was insane and I felt helpless.

Anyway, I told my friend about it.... she said the same thing happened to her a few years ago, and that she just had to find ways to get past the phase, until her stomach and MIND got used to not constantly munching. She told me to brush my teeth after I had my last calories for the day, instead of waiting till bedtime. And to rinse with mouthwash for at least 30 seconds. And floss.

It worked! After my mouth was all numb and minty, it made me resist that snacking urge that came later. And flossing is such a pain in the butt to me, I REALLY didn't want to ruin it!!!  So after a couple weeks, the nighttime snacking went away, I guess my body just got over it. I haven't had that problem since. Hope it helps you.

Weight Loss Did the Atkin's diet mess you up to? Sep 18 2007

I didnt eat whatever... I just went back to NORMAL eating after that. Any diet that you have to continue a restrictive "maintenance" phase for the rest of your life raises an eyebrow for me.

I agree different strokes for different folks, thats why I think it messes SOME people's metabolisms up and does great for others.

Hi... I am new here.... actually my first post.................

but I just wanted to say that I COMPLETELY believe Atkins can mess up some people's metabolisms. I never ever ever had a weight problem, never really had to watch what I ate...... and stayed around 140. Well about 5 years ago, at age 26, I wanted to fit a formal dress that was a size smaller than me, so I went on Atkins short term to try and lose 10 pounds. I followed everything the book said, and in a month was down to 130. Within two months of eating normal again, I had gained 17 pounds (the 10 plus 7 more)!!! Ever since, I have had a constant battle with a range of about 40-45 extra pounds.

I know there are millions of different factors that play into weight gain and weight loss.... and sure there is the slim possibility that my body had some weird shift in weight for another reason. But MY BELIEF is that Atkins screwed up my metabolism, and changed the way my body processes and reacts to carbs.
