Fitness Do '5 hour energy' and '6 hour energy' bottles work? Oct 21 2009

I don't use them often but they do work and you don't get the jitters.  Try drinking half the bottle first to see you you respond to it, if you still need more energy take the other half of the bottle.

risza, I think your post is really extreme and I find it weird that you don't even acknowledge the role of society on shaping our body preferences.

The extreme part is : 'You can look at the picture and see she has no physical activity in her life.  Its all flab.'

Really? Do you actually believe that? Does everyone who is physically active have 6-pack abs or a washboard? I can answer that for you - NO. Plenty of physically active women look like that model if they're lucky or flabbier/bigger. It's pretty degrading for someone to say something like what you said.

Also, if you educate yourself on why lifespans have increased since biblical times, you'll find that it has pretty much nothing to do with any of what you're talking about. In fact, the issues of cholesterol, heart disease etc come up BECAUSE our lifespans have increased enough for them to make the impact.

I think education and moderated comments would help tremendously when dealing with these kinds of issues.

I agree with you here.  I have the same kind of belly that this model does and it's because I have lost so much weight, I think it might be extra skin.  I have been exercising regularly for 3 years and I just finished my first marathon.  So judging people strictly by the way they look on their fitness level is just ridiculous.

I think this model is beautiful.  Furthermore I think it's awesome that she was confident enough in herself to take these pictures.  I wish I could be that confident.

echo~  I understand how your feeling, I'm going through the same thing this year.  I started the year @ 139 and I have gotten up to 154!!!  I'm 5'4'' and 26 btw.  On the plus side I did just run my first half marathon, so that makes me feel a little better although my time wasn't as good as I wanted it to be.  I have faced the scale and I am definitley not happy about my weight so I'm starting again with counting calories.  I've been very active all year but if I don't count my calories I gain.  It's so frustrating because I hate always having to write down everything I eat.

mhnyc~  I have recently signed up with the SPCA to help out all the dogs with no homes.  This helps to take my mind off things.  Dogs are what makes me happy.  Anything that has to do with them makes me smile, so I suppose I should try to get to the shelter more.

When I'm sick I don't bother worrying about the calories.  I always get: Chicken noodle soup, crackers, fruit cocktail and applesauce.  This is my signature dish when I'm sick. LOL.

mhnyc~  Yes I agree with you.  I've tried to do this.  I volunteered for Girls on the Run hoping that I could help overweight girls learn how to be healthy and get active.  Since I love to run I thought this would be a perfect fit.  Unfortunatly the program was nothing like I thought it would be I was very disappointed and ended up stopping.  I would however like to try again, just not with that organization.  If you have any suggestions I am more than up for listning to them.  I would love to help someone not go through what I did.  Actually I think I will google it right now. Thank you, Meryl, for the perspective!  I had never thought of it this way, but I think you are right on: I don't know about the OP, but I am guilty of always feeling looking forward to what's next rather than enjoying and accepting what I've achieved now.  This translates to other aspects of my life as well.
*This is me exactly.  I can never be satisfied with the now, it's always where I am going to be.  This is for all aspects of my life as well.  I wonder how you go about changing that way of thinking.*

I am getting ready for my first half on October 18th.  I am happy to know I can go the distance.  I was worried.  It was all about pacing myself at the beginning of my run, it made such a difference.

plindholt~ I have been running since about August of 2006, but just this year I started to run 10k's and signed up for my first half.  I want to run the Disney Princess Half Marathon next year March.  Then build up to doing a full marathon.  As far as training tips, I have none.  Just run, run, run.  They have a lot of information on runnersworld.com.

Sugar free??  Does that include artificial sweetners?  Probably does.  I've heard once you cut out the sugars in your diet you don't crave it anymore.  Is that true?  What do you do for desserts?  What are the benefits of doing this?

I've been arguing with myself about this for awhile.  Finally I think I have a handle on it.  I eat a majority of protein throughout the day and low on the carb intake.  If I'm running then I eat more carbs.  I've actually lost weight over the last 2 weeks and I haven't had to count anything!! It's been great.  I also workout every day and only take one day off a week unless I'm sick or something.

Motivation Why do I still see a fat person? Sep 13 2009

Original Post by sfhsclarinet:

I go through this a lot. I actually just wrote about it in my blog (discoveringlauren.blogspot.com) I didn't really see the difference in my body until I put two pictures side by side. Its crazy how quickly you forget how far you've come, when you think you would never forget being very heavy and unhealthy.

Same here.  I went from 225 down to 140 and I still look at myself in the mirror and feel fat.  I constantly argue with myself about it but it seems to always be my focus.  I always have to remind myself that I can run 6 miles and I'm training for a marathon and that equates to being healthy imo.

Comparing pictures helps a lot.  I found an old picture of me recently and compared it to me now and the change really is amazing, but when I'm standing in front of the mirror I tend to forget where I started.

Here's my version.  Using the morning star and picnic bacon takes out a lot of calories and still tastes good to me.

1 cup Morning Star Italian Sausage meal starters

2 medium potatoes, cut in half lengthwise and cut into 1/4 inch slices

3/4 cup onion, diced

2 tbsp of Hormel picnic bacon

1 1/2 teaspoons minced garlic

2 cups kale leaves, cut in half, then sliced

1 can chicken broth

1/3 cup heavy cream

*I use skim milk instead of the cream, it does make the soup thinner though*

I agree. You have to change your whole mindset.  It's a lifestyle change, not a "diet."  You have to completely change the way you eat and live.  You cant expect to lose all the weight and then go back to eating whatever you want.  You have to accept the fact that you will probably always have to count calories to maintain.  At least that's the way it is for me.  When I first started losing weight I thought once I got down to my goal weight I wouldn't have to work as hard or count calories and that's just not true.  I put on weight pretty fast if I'm not counting calories.  It sucks sometimes it can truly be frustrating.   Good luck getting on track.  Laughing

I'm a morning girl, I'm up every morning at 4:45am and I'm working out by 6am.

I wish I could wake up that early...I certainly would be more productive!

I work 9am-7pm everyday so for me to be able to have relax time and get my work out in I have to get up that early.  I'm working on pushing it back to 4am, so I can have 2 hours of me time and then work out.  Of course I'm in bed by 8:30- 9:00pm every night.  LOL.

Just forget about the negative and move forward.  You can do this. 5 pounds isn't that big of a deal you can lose that in 2 weeks if you work hard enough.  It's better than a 10 pound gain, right?  Wink  Just get back on track.
