Separation of church and state isn't in the Constitution. The founding fathers wanted to secure our religious freedom; something they didn't have in England. The constitution and the laws that governed our land were born out of our Christian heritage. There are a lot of bad people out there; Christians, athiests, Muslims, etc., however, there are a lot of good ones, too. To lump any group together and make a blanket statement is bigotry. Here is what the constitution actually reads concerning state control of the church: Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof... The point of such an amendment is twofold. First, it ensures that religious beliefs - private or organized - are removed from attempted government control. This is the reason why the government cannot tell either you or your church what to believe or to teach. Second, it ensures that the government does not get involved with enforcing, mandating, or promoting particular religious doctrines. This is what happens when the government "establishes" a church - and because doing so created so many problems in Europe, the authors of the Constitution wanted to try and prevent the same from happening here. I am a Christian. I believe that every one will answer to God for their own decisions, not someone else's. I don't really care if you've had an abortion or want to teach sex ed in school. It really just doesn't matter in the long run because I'm accountable for ME. Not you. Christ is the Son of God sent to save. Salvation is for everyone, not judgement. He didn't come to condemn the world, but that the world, through Him might be saved. I'm sorry for any pain you've ever had to suffer at the hand of a bad person. And judging a group of people based upon a generality is wrong, no matter who you are. It would be like saying all Muslims are terrorists. That's simply not true. |

You know, there are a lot of Christians still in America. America was founded by very staunch, strict, fundamental Christians. I cannot believe the intolerence I am reading in this thread toward them. You say they are bigots, hypocrites, hateful and intolerent. You hate Palin for these reasons (among others). Are you listening to yourselves, people? |

Hi everyone! Remember me? hehe. I've been soooooo busy. I now have 3 jobs, as well as homeschooling my 5 children, whew. I have been faithfully logging my calories in fitday.com because it's easier and faster to use. Needless to say, with all the running and stress, I've lost a few pounds. I only have 10 more to go to reach my goal weight-wise, but I'm so tired and hurt a lot. The kids and my husband do dinner together, but by the time I come home, the only thing I have for dinner is some cookies and go to bed. I don't recommend this diet. Anyway, I see Dances has a birthday! Happy B-Day!!!! Mine is next Saturday. Remember when you were a kid it seemed like birthdays took forever to come around and as an adult they come too fast. Hi Anna, nice to meet you, and Molly still cooking up a storm, Grandma Sue; looking good! Alicia, nice to meet you, I could go on and on and still miss someone so a big hello to my favorite person here: PAM! Thanks for the note, too. |

I Corinthians 6:20 For ye are bought with a price: therefore glorify God in your body, and in your spirit, which are God's.
I'm trying to remember that this weekend. That's when temptation is the worst.

Back on topic: Adaptation and natural selection are a biological fact; evolution is not. Natural selection can only work on the genetic information present in a population of organisms—it cannot create new information. For example, if reptiles have no genes for feathers, no amount of selection will produce a feathered reptile. Mutations in genes can only modify or eliminate existing structures, but not create new ones. If in a certain environment a lizard survives better with smaller legs, or no legs, then varieties with this trait will be selected for. This might be more accurately called devolution, not evolution. |

Ok, now we're getting kinda off topic, but to the one who said that the Bible said the earth was flat, um, no it doesn't. Isaiah 40:22 It is he that sitteth upon the circle of the earth, and the inhabitants thereof are as grasshoppers; that stretcheth out the heavens as a curtain, and spreadeth them out as a tent to dwell in: Just FYI. Sorry to interrupt. Please continue........

| Weight Loss | How long should you wait between eating and going to bed? | Oct 04 2007 22:10 (UTC) |

Personally, if I eat certain things before bed (chocolate, Chinese, or Mexican) I cannot sleep very well. I don't think it's a weight issue (it hasn't made a difference for me if I stick to my calories) but more of a good night's sleep... I usually stop eating, like lauradavis said, 60 to 90 minutes before bed time. I also, like brush my teeth or chew gum a lot and it makes my stomach not growl. I read that people who eat cereal before bed lost weight than those who ate other things. It's probably because it's kinda hard to "binge" on a bowl of cereal. Now give me a pound of cookie dough........................................ . |

getting back to micro/macro evolution....read this: http://www.discovery.org/scripts/viewDB/files DB-download.php?id=118 before you emphatically state that evolution (apes to men) is/has in fact been accepted just as much as gravity. It's thought provoking and not religious. I promise.... |

Ok, I'm still a newbie, I think....I've been almost 2 weeks and I still don't get the calorie thing. I was raised on biscuits and gravy. So, I have logged my calories and logged my calories. I'm making better choices, more bang for the buck, so to speak...Whole grains, lean chicken, veggies (interesting, I've never liked them before I was starving....) but even by midafternoon, I am at about 700 calories. I get the other 600 (without junkfood) by really PUSHING in the food at dinner. I'm just not loosing. I lost my first 6 pounds during the first 2 days of this dieting, and from what I've read, it's probably water. I can't exercise, physical problems and all, but someday hope to get out there and do it. If I eat by hunger alone, I only get around 1000 calories, and per your advice I should probably try to shoot for 1300. The little calculator thingy on this site says 1270 so that sounds nice and round. How do you all do it? |

| How does this calorie thing work anyway? I usually have only eaten about 700 calories by mid-afternoon. I get the other calories with dinner and maybe dessert. My husband says that eating all those cals before bed must be what's making me gain. I just don't see how I can do it any different. I know that eating 2000 calories of cookie dough makes me gain weight, but what about just the normal 600 that I am "suppose" to eat? | |||

Explaining the "rock" comment in an abbreviated way: I was taught that billions of years ago there was space matter that got together, kind of like a star, and this "star" went super nova and spewed peices of rock all over the place. Then it rained on this rock for billions of years making a "soup" that life was sparked from. Billions (or millions, who knows?) of years later creeping things came out of this slime and so on, ad infinitum. This is still in science books. Go check out your kid's books. And, yes, in the Bible, Adam came from dirt. The difference being that God breathed life into him. The thing is, we have life. Where did it come from? We have to look at what we have now to interpret the past. Our interpretations are based on our presuppositions. All reasoning comes from these presuppositions. There are certain things we suppose to be true. I believe the Biblical account of history so that is where my interpretations of the facts begin. Both views take the facts we have in hand and make theories, um excuse me, hypotheses, about where it came from. And like I've said before, neither have been proven, so we ALL have to just choose what we'll believe. |

And this all happened from a rock. Remember? Rats have similar DNA, as well. But in the 6000 or so years of recorded history that we have, we can't see the missing link? I just don't think so. The burden of proof has to be there. Even the fossils don't prove it. It proves that there were mammoths. Now there's not. The fossils prove huge dinosaurs and humans walked in the same layer of earth. Now there's no dinosaurs. Did they evolve? Maybe into geckos? hmmmmm I just don't see how we can have this theory that we have a common ancestor then have it not happen now. |

You are supporting the theory of evolution with variations found in species which is called micro-evolution and has been observed and proven in nature and science. It is simply the adaptations and changes within a species. Micro evolution is a fact and has never been disputed. Darwin observed the birds and their adaptations to their environment, but he never saw a finch turn into anything other than a finch. I think the debate is, "do you believe in macro-evolution?" which has never been observed in science or nature. That is the transition of one species into another; an example would be an ape into a human. Or a dog turning into a cat. Or a bird into a frog. Shall I go on? Have you seen it? You would win a Nobel Prize if you did because all the best scientists in the world haven't proven it. This theory also states that everything has it's origins to a rock. Study it. If you believe in macro-evolution, you believe that you came from a rock. That is the origin of our species and all other living matter according to the theory of macro-evolution. Creation says that all things came from a spoken word. Either theory would take a lot of faith to believe. Personally, I have to think that there is a God. All matter is just too complex to believe it all happened by an explosion. I've never seen order come from chaos. However, neither THEORY can be proven.

It was the binging on Saturday that started a death spiral, hehe. Then a couple of other things happened. I asked the Lord for encouragement and He did some wonderful things. First a friend of mine in California emailed me. I hadn't spoken w/ her in about 4 years because we lost each other. Then Pam sent me a nice email. Then God reminded me of this verse: 2 Corinthians 12:9 And he said unto me, My grace is sufficient for thee: for my strength is made perfect in weakness. Most gladly therefore will I rather glory in my infirmities, that the power of Christ may rest upon me. I know this may sound silly, but I am praying for a bicycle. I can't do a lot of exercises because of my knees and feet. My favorite is swimming, but w/ 5 children, I don't really get a chance to leave the house to go to the pool. It's a big production. I thought biking w/ the kids would be good.
