This is called "reactive" hypoglycemia. Your blood sugar isn't dropping below a safe level, but your body over-produces insulin JUST in response to high amounts of carbohydrates or sugar, giving you what seems to others like an over the top case of post-dinner napping. I know, because I have it. You can try and help with not eating large amounts of sugar at a time, or not having sugary beverages with meals. (In my case, I stopped being a vegetarian to increase the amount of protein I was getting in ratio to carbohydrates, but I've never had much of a sweet tooth...) Hope you feel better soon! -Dayna |

Your waist to hip ratio is around .7, and your bust is about the same as your hips, which means you are an hourglass shape. |

TRIUMPH in the fact that I will always walk on my pants... just a little bit. Me = age 19 (but I burn cals at the rate of a 27 yr. old, I know, they've checked my TH levels) height 5'1" (though there is dispute as to whether or not I'm boasting the inch) highest weight 143 (but that was way before this site..) current weight 118 goal weight 110 I aim for 1200 cals a day... but it averages out to be around 1400 And lilreenz, I know what you mean, there are days when I can't eat a bite over 900. (And then there are days when I could eat an entire pizza...) Eat as much as you're hungry! Big people don't understand that the "estimates" are meant for them, and becomes less accurate the further from average you get. |

19 years old here, 5'1", and 118 lbs (down from 126 over the summer) trying to get to 111 (seems like everybody my height has waaaaaaay lower goals than me though :P ) And food IS delicious! Yeah.... copping up to what's been eaten at the end of the day really does help me think about something before it goes into my mouth... Did that sound wrong to anybody else? Good luck! |

I am a coffee person, and I've had my cup every morning since 7th grade. Coffee does have one particular antioxidant which is very beneficial to your health which has a particularly bitter flavor. This antioxidant is also found in dark chocolate, green tea, and brussel sprouts. Besides which, with 2 cups a day or more it has been shown to reduce the risk of Parkinson's disease. Not to mention reduce LDL cholesterol levels. The caffiene in about 2-3 cups of coffee a day is alright for the average person, but may be bad for those who are diabetic, or have a heart condition. (Not to mention it bumps up that metabolism, some people drink before working out to get the most calorie burn.) However, the chemical processes of decaffinating coffee often remove the antioxidants. Those which don't are called water-filtering or something like that. Newman's own coffee, and the coffee bean co. do their decaffinating that way, as do some others. I drink all coffee, but usually only decaf when I'm home visiting the folks. I love flavored and good latin american nutty blends. I probably get about 22 oz. a day, and while I don't sweeten, I put 2% milk in my coffee. (It's a dieting cutback from half and half...) I like a mug in the morning, or else the day never begins, and a cup after dinner to get over the post-eating slump. (I have VERY low blood pressure, at about 83/51 and if I don't caffinate after eating, especially heavy food, I HAVE to take a nap immediately.) Yum! Oh, and by the way, I've found that Juan Valdez doesn't make a half bad instant coffee for emergencies. |

Start at the little metal part (the 0). If you start at the one inch, just subtract an inch from the total measurement. Also, because somebody else was having trouble with this, you should measure at your natural waist (the skinniest part above your bellybutton.) P.S. You have great taste in books! |

I guess the best way to initiate conversation with a female would be to approach it the same way as you would with a guy. We're all human. Also, try not to think of college as "a convenient time to form a lasting relationship." That puts an awful lot of weight on things that can make something akward even more so. You'll meet people throughout your whole life. And I read your bio page, you sound like you have alot of interests. Talk about the things you're comfortable with. If the person you're talking to is interesting in the same things as you, there might be potential. Hey, everybody's jittery the couple times... but have confidence. Confidence is SEXY! |

I fear to admit I'm from Cincinnati... I remember when I got a flyer for that place, I was frightened (but hung it on the fridge for a week to see if anyone'd notice!). I didn't know it had dinosaurs.... Yikes... You know there's a giant Jesus in a lake off of I-71? |

| Well, when you say "waistline" usually people mean where your pants ride (around the bellybutton). But yeah, the definition of "waist" for measurements is around the (usually) narrowest point, called the "natural waist." The natural waist is always above the bellybutton in females. It's one of those cases where there's a strict definiton and a colloquial definition of the same word. | |||

Local or oral zinc suppliments help alot of people if you start taking them immediately, but some of the nasal (vs. losenge) ones have been known to cause rare allergic reactions (less than 1 % of people). Chances are you're fine, but if your nose starts to burn go to the emergency room right away. You should be alright with mega dosing on the vitamin C if you don't do it for more than a week at a time. Ecchinacia is known to help prevent colds, I'm not sure if it does anything by the time you're starting to experience symptoms. Chamomile tea (related to ecchinacia and st. johns wort) may also help, but that just rumor. Saline nasal spray is shown to prevent colds. And if nothing else, chicken noodle (or veggie) soup, plenty of h2o, moderate exercise, and plenty of sleep. Good luck! (I know what it's like, I get about 6 colds a year, usually on my birthday) |

I changed the spelling of my name as a 7th grade birthday present! From Dana to Dayna. Of course... it only costed me $75. I say GO FOR IT! I'm happy with my change. I'd be sure you want what you change it to though (I did want Jade, but my mother was skeptical, and now I'm glad I didn't. Course I regret not changing my last name too while I was at it...) It's like a new hairstyle, but better! |

| Weight Loss | Stopping Late-night Snacking | Oct 18 2007 17:54 (UTC) |

I have the same problem, but I've found two ways where I can go about it. The easy way is having a cup of coffee or tea late at night, something that takes me a long time to finish. If I get a sweet craving with it -- hard candy. The twenty cals of five pieces of good hard candy is still better than alot of other things. The hard way; pre-portioned snacks. Stay under 200 cals with them and it should be alright. I have particular difficulty with this because I can portion it all out and put the rest away (or buy some of those snack sized bags of something), and still go back for a second one. What I really wish is that my pantry and fridge locked at nine! Then I couldn't get into them until the morning. Good luck! |

| Foods | Did you cheat this weekend? what did you eat? | Oct 17 2007 01:45 (UTC) |

uhhh... weekends.... I'm a college student, so during the week even with stress I can manage right around my goal. But my boyfriend comes to visit me on the weekends about 2-3 times a month and I can't help but see each one as a mini celebration! I usually have about 1800 cals, which is 300 over my "burn" level. This weekend it was big burritos (like Chipotle, but a local place that's better :P ) and mint mojito soda and HALLOWEEN CANDY! My boyfriend left Sunday but the candy's still here! Should I throw it out!? I want to reach my goal weight by christmas, but I don't know if it'll happen. It seems like each week I burn off what I eat each weekend. |

| Alright. Thanks for all your input! I wasn't sure if it was an allergy or not, I'm allergic to cashews and my toungue swells up and I get a rash, so it sounds like it's just intolerance. I'll look out for some of these over-preserved things... I didn't know about all this stuff that can be added to food, it's kinda creepy. | |||

| You know, mine doesn't say either. But I take alot of antacid tablets, and those have 3 cals apiece. Since antacids have sucrose, but are otherwise just calcium and magnesium, I would think that a multivitamin would, if it has calories, have just a few like that. | |||

It took me a little while to get the burn meter too. What it is is that the big number is the estimated number of calories per day that you burn. The little number is how many you have burnt so far in the day. (If you log on at six am, it's lower than at 9 pm, etc.) If you want to add extra activity to your burn meter it will up BOTH numbers. And good luck! |

Ah! I'm a college student too and it is threatening. I haven't gone yet and I've been here for two years! At home I had a stationary bike, and I used it about 2-3 times a week, but I can't go and do that here. Seems like at college there are so many girls who haven't had their metabolism drop yet or play college sports. I go to a liberal arts school, so there aren't many at the gym that aren't the pretty, popular, or athletic. For three weeks now I've promised myself that I'll go and I still haven't! Too bad we don't go to the same school, we could go together. (or talk about it anyway :P ) Well, if I hear that you've tried it out I'll go too. Good luck! And I know EXACTLY what you mean! |

| You might want to add some of those things, they up your nutrition value for the day (milk and oj are oh so good for you). But the cals are important, I realized I wasn't adding my coffee, which, while mostly water was still around 30 calories a day. | |||

| Hey, I'm 5'1" and 119lbs., and there are days when I have only logged 1000 cals and I'm stuffed to the brim. I don't know, but I don't see how giving yourself a stomach ache to get to 1200 cals is good for you. I definitely feel that it depends on what you're noticing about yourself. (I'm a college student, I know about the sedentary thing, and I actually think the burn meter is set much higher than actuality for my personal burn, you might be closer to the average at 5'4") | |||

| It strange, but I never thought of saying "Have you lost weight !?" to someone as being embarrasing. I always felt good when people said it to me, and now I feel bad that I might have made somebody uncomfortable from my own self-bias. I guess I'll just stick to "You look great!" from now on. | |||
