I am back on Met now for about 6 weeks. I increased my dosage quickly, since I tolerate it pretty well ( my stomach of course gets upset once in a while), but I was on 2500 dosage for about 2 weeks before scale budged

Weight Loss Starting LOW GI--anyone wanna be a buddy? Nov 16 2009

Hi, I am almost 30 and was diagnosed with PCOS a few years ago. I was depressed initially, especially since I was hoping to have kids.

On the other hand, I am glad that I have diagnosis. Now I know that there are things that I can control. I know I can never be skinny, but I can stay in control of my health.

I did manage to loose 15 pounds in 3 months before I knew I have PCOS and (thanks caloriecount!). then I had another health issues and was unable to work out and gained the weight back (plus a bit more), but here is a good part, the weigh gain was much slower then my regular since I cut out potato, rice, and bread. Yes, I had sweets, have major sweet tooth as well.

I do not know if you are insulin resistant, but if you are, ask your doctor for metformin. It may help you with weight loss.  reducing high GI foods will defiantly clear out that acne.

Do not concentrate on size of the clothes, as you may now PCOS is lifelong condition and puts you at risk for diabetes and heart problems more than 'normal' person, so health should be your main concern.

Once you concentrate on health, weight will start to come off.

For now, record all the foods you eat, and learn about your habits.

I have on Met for about 3 weeks now (also for PCOS). It is my second time around, so I increased my dosage rapidly. Metformin makes your stomach sick. stay away from anything oily and melted cheese.

sometime I have bad reaction even on fresh vegetables, but it does get better overtime

Good luck

For ashleym:

Not to scare you or anything. but go to see doc right now!

the fact that you did not have you period for  a while may lead to thickness of uterus lining, which may leads to cancer.

I am suffering from this issue right now and I think it is due to me not having my periods regularry when I was a teen, though they came back later in my 20s.

If you do have PCOS, the earlier you know, the better off you will be.

Hi, Sarah

I started CC a in the fall of last year, BEFORE being diagnosed with PCOS. and I was able to loose some weight.

Since my diagnosis ( I also have extreme IR), I was not able to work out much. They also found endometriosis so I had hormonal therapy.

Overall since being diagnosed, I cut out rice ( I was eating a lot of it) and all other "bad' carbs.  My weight did not move. I went back and asked for Metformin. I have heard that many women with PCOS have lost weight on this medications, as it seems to normalize the body. This is not a diet pill, but for many PCOS women it often is.

I did not see my weight decreasing, but I know I think the stronger your IR the longer it takes to work.

Here is good link for you

Each relationship is different.

I was with the same person for 4 years and it did not work out.

On the other hand, I married my husband the same year we met. and now over 4 years later i can say it was right decision.

In your case, however I see the pattern: you are in rush.

Slow down for a change

Well, it's been a couple weeks now, and markets around the world are tanking in panic because of the explosion of defaults in the US, much of which is due to consumers borrowing to maintain a middle-class lifestyle with stagnant income and years of soaring prices.

So is it still a Goldilocks economy Larry? Larry?

You there Larry?

I agree with you.  Dems should realize that as much as Obama is for "change" they need to go with whoever is most electable, and that would be Hillary. If Gore and Kerry could not pull this off last few elections, Obama will not stand a change in a general election.

On republican side,  I believe Romney is presentable and business-friendly, but who knows where evangelical vote will go?

If Kudlow creed is good in anythings, it's finding  irrelevant information and twisting it to fit their agenda.

Hi there,

I joined CC a few months ago and was able to loose a little weight counting calories and working out.

I was diagnosed with PCOS just a few weeks ago, so I am still working on re-adjusting my diet.I am also on medication for another problem I have and have not worked on weeks, but still did not gain any weight back. I allow myself to have a something sweet now and then, but I stay away from anything STARCHY.

This site really helped to track what I am eating and stay 'on budget', but as you know for us, it is not so much how much we eat, but what we eat. When using CC calorie counter do not concentrate on the grade you are getting, it will be not all that good since women with PCOS need to have a bit more fat.

Were you put on any medication?

Hi Kelli

I am in the same boat as you are. I have been diagnosed with PCOS recently, I am  also VERY insulin resistant.

For years I have been gaining weight, and was not sure why. Granted, I was never very physically active, but I am not fast-food junkie either and thought my diet was not so bad.

I joined CC prior to being diagnosed and lost some weight, not as quickly as I would have hoped, but CC works even for gals like us.

Welcome to the site.

Amanda, I stumbled on your post and smiled.

I am married to an Indian for 4 years now and sort of went through similar experience. I met my-in-laws when we went to India.

Thought I put in my 2 cents.

If they are open to meeting you it's already great. I am sure your bf gave you good tips on how to impress them.  It's definatly all about you behave around him, his parents and even your family.

Oh, and try not to wear pants/jeans for a while. Since I imagine you don't have any traditional Indian dress (you can buy online now days) try to stick with a dress at least when you are at home.
