Oh please, I consider that a binge and if I do, so be it .

I'm not going to mope and cry over spilled milk.. it's a new day, I'll start over.

Anywhoo, Binge Disorder is stupid because I personally believe in self responsibilty..
if you do it once or even twice, somewhere along the line .. you do realize what you're doing is immoral.
Whether you choose to stop , is your decision ..

I think it's bolongy that after plenty of times of binging , "you can't stop".

That's pretty idiotic.

I am going to come right out and say it. You are an insensitive idiot.

Binging is NEVER healthy. EVER. Both for you and for a lot of people who are starving. People die because of lack of food. Go on and talk about your favorite binge foods like it is perfectly okay. You should be ashamed.

when i used to go i would order a garden burger and a freckled lemonade. but you get bottomless fries and lemonade so i wouldn't recommend it on a diet. and the lemonade is super sugary and has strawberries on top. i'm sure a couple of those would rake up a lot of calories fast.

i'd stick to a salad if i was forced to go. i'd get A SINGLE freckled lemonade as well but it's just not worth it. five bucks for one drink.

i thought 1 serving of a muffin is usually 1/2 a muffin so that there is 2 servings in a muffin.

well i think the muffin mix says that a serving is 2 ounces. is a muffin 4 ounces?
i really don't know.

Vegetarian vegans--what's one thing you miss? Dec 20 2007

hmmm... i had to think about this one.

i guess i miss being able to eat out places. it's pretty hard to find something vegan on menus around here.

baked goods. like muffins, cookies, and sweet breads.

you can make them yourself of course. but i work at a coffee shop with a bunch of these things that aren't vegan and it sucks. everything smells so good but none of it is stuff i eat. we do sell ABC Cookies though. But for 440 calories and 12 grams a fat FOR 1 COOKIE, I would rather just wait to get home to eat something. But I guess a muffin has pretty close stats too.
Vegetarian 2002 article- Dairy is not natural part of human diet... Dec 20 2007

I don't think anyone can argue that drinking another species milk is natural. Just go through the thought process. What is milk? Food for young animals. So what is cow's milk? Food for young cows. What is goat's milk? Food for young goats.

What is human milk? Food for young humans.

Milk consumption as an adult is weird. We're not suppose to even have that enzyme to break apart lactose anymore. It's not suppose to be needed any longer.

It's not too late. At least she can be a responsible teenage parent. Hopefully?

I don't think it is EVER responsible to keep a baby that you could abort if you are a teenager. When you are a kid you should not have kids. Period. And what about adoption? We don't need more people on this planet. We can hardly support the consumption and pollution of this many people. We don't need more.

- i measure everything to make sure that i am calculating it right.

- i don't like eating things that don't go together. ex. i wake up late sometimes and someone will being making something lunchy. well i am eating a bowl of cereal. they ask me if i want a bite. i can't. i can't mix cereal with spaghetti. they just don't go together.

- i only drink 1/2 cup of anything that isn't water. i pour 1 cup but 1/2 way through i give it to my boyfriend or whoever.

- i love salsa but i don't really like tortilla chips. so i have started to put salsa on my rice or just end up eating it with a spoon.

- i have to have my coffee black. if i have a sip of someone's coffee with an X amount of soy milk or sugar i can't stop thinking about what the soy milk to sugar to coffee ratio might be.

- i don't like to eat in front of people. i feel judged when i do.

- i can never finish an apple if i have had ANYTHING in the last half an hour before it. for some reason an apple can be more filling to me than other foods that should be more filling. i try to avoid eating an apple like an apple. it's too messy.

- i always get on the computer in the morning to check cc. i do that before thinking about breakfast. it distracts me until i feel that i am hungry enough to start eating for the day.

- i LOVE taking a long slow walk after i have a meal and do this as much as possible. except less now because it's winter and cold.

- i drink a cup of water with every meal taking a sip between every two bites. unless that meal is really light than i drink a 1/2 cup of juice. but usually end up drinking a cup of water as well.

- i feel better about what i am eating if it looks good. like if i use nice dishes and the food is well placed on the plate. if garnish is used. whatever. if there are a variety of colors.

- i love celery and mustard. as well tomato with mustard and cucumbers with mustard. or just salt and pepper for that two latter of the three.

- sometimes i get horrible craving for bread and veganaise. or even weirder veganaise and chocolate chips. (veganaise is vegan mayonaise but i like it a TON more than i ever liked mayonaise.)

Foods Boca or Garden Burgers?? Dec 13 2007

Some substitutes are gross. But it's a matter of opinion.
Pretend to gnaw on animal flesh. I don't think that someone who is a vegetarian would want to do that. And 'poor substitute for the real thing'?
If the real thing is filled with hormones, saturated fat, cholesterol and anti-biotics i will gladly take the "fake thing" then.

Anyway, I think the best veggie burger is the one you make at home.
You can make black bean, garbanzo bean, lentil, tvp burgers and mix in grains and vegetable to make them extra delicious and healthy.

But I don't have time to make those every time. Amy's Burgers are the best I think.

Foods TOFU Dec 11 2007
16:49 (UTC)
okay, one mistake i made, DRAIN your tofu before marinading it. if you don't drain it of the water that it was packaged with than it will not absorb that marinade and it will taste disgusting.

you can wrap it in a towel and put a weight on top of it or just squeeze it out with a towel or two, or three. the more water you can remove before marinading the better.

just thought i'd add that.

oh man. i am really really bad at this.

yesterday i ate about 1 1/2 bagel with light margarine, 1 1/2 abc cookies (vegan cookies that have about 440 calories per cookie and 12 grams of fat if you're lucky), 1 cinnamon roll, and 1/4 'custard' filled pastry after dinner. man. i hate when i do that to myself.

but i think i am going to try to cut out my binge foods all together. maybe replace them with a glass of water and a healthy food. i'm sure it will be really difficult but it will be kinda like becoming vegan all over again. (having to resist certain foods that i know i have grown accustom to and that i like.)

Vegetarian Vegan roll call? Nov 30 2007

I went vegan about three years ago and I did it for ethical reasons (animal rights reasons) but have continued to be vegan for so many more reasons.

Since I went vegan I have lost about 30 pounds and my upset stomach. I used to get an upset stomach just about everyday of my high school life. Not just normal stomach aches but horrible aches that would leave me curled up into a ball and not able to move. But when I switched my diet over it just went away. I've had it maybe 3-5 times in three years since then. And not nearly as bad.
Foods calorie bargain vs. calorie rip off.... Nov 24 2007
21:47 (UTC)
21

bargain:

seaweed
vegetarian sushi (without avocado)
rice or wheat puffs
air popped popcorn
pickles
mushrooms (especially portabella mushroom sandwiches)
any steamed vegetables really
smartdogs (45 cals, good protien, 0 fat)
koop's horseradish mustard (adds so much flavor for only 5 calories a tablespoon)
fat free instant chocolate pudding
soy yogurt
low-fat plain soymilk (westsoy brand. filling and only 1.5 grams fat and 90 calories.)
salsa!!!!!

ripoffs:

peanut butter (usually 200 calories and 12 grams of fat in 2 tablespoons)
soda (of course. no reason to be drinking this. empty calories.)
chips (unless they are baked tortilla chips which usually only have 110 calories and 2 grams of fat which is incredible for tortilla chips.)
cooking oil (no i don't want to cook things in fat. there is enough of that in my food. but alas i OCCASIONALLY do anyway.)
store bought cookies (filled with tons of fat and calories!!!)

Foods Popcorn ~probably a stupid question Oct 05 2007
19:03 (UTC)

YES!!!

I love LOVE love popcorn.
1 cup has 20 calories when air popped!

I usually spray it with natural oil spray and cover it with nutritional yeast, cumin and sea salt. It gives it a cheesy taste! And 2 HEAPING tablespoons of nutritional yeast is 50 calories (and very good for you). So you can eat a huge bowl of popcorn and have around 180 calories.

It really doesn't add that many vitamins for the calories. And as everyone else is saying there is no fiber.

If you have a bad time keeping veggies fresh get frozen ones. They aren't as good for you as fresh but they are better than no veggies.
Foods Do you calorie-count drinks? Oct 05 2007
18:44 (UTC)

YES!!!!

A lot of people don't think about the calories they are consuming when they drink a cup of orange juice or milk with their meal. A 350 calorie meal can easily turn into a 500 calorie meal with a tall glass of orange juice.

TIPS (to avoid a large liquid calorie intake):

  • drink things that are not water out of juice glasses. (like the names implies these are for juice.)
  • drink WATER with meals. you don't realize how much you are drinking when you have to wash down a meal with your beverage.
  • don't refill your glass until you've finished it. (it's harder to keep track of how much you are actually drinking if you just keep refilling a cup that's still got liquid in it.
And think about this.

10 ounces of:
  • Non-fat milk has 96 calories.
  • Orange juice has 130 calories.

Foods cutting out dairy Oct 05 2007

Original Post by babyd:

Here's a good website that lists some non-dairy sources of calcium and vitamin D (which you'll need if you cut out milk, unless you live in a very sunny part of the world).
http://www.bchealthguide.org/healthfiles/hfil e68e.stm

Also vitamin D is produced by your body when you are exposed to sunlight. So you don't have to worry about getting it from food. 15 minutes of sun exposure on your face, arms and  hands should be fine.

And as someone suggested you can get calcium from dark green leafy vegetables.

Foods Least damaging of the standard desserts? Sep 23 2007

Gelato or Pudding (chocolate, banana, tapioca) or a cookie or two would probably provide the least calories. But it depends on how much you eat.
Foods chamomile tea vs green tea Sep 23 2007
20:04 (UTC)
1

I don't know if one of them is necessarily better than the other.

Green tea has caffeine and chamomile does not.
Green tea will boost your metabolism and give you a bit of energy.
Chamomile usually calms you down and can even calm an upset stomach.
It depends on what your goal is.

I do know that drinking too much green tea is not a good idea.
Caffeine is a natural diuretic and will flush out nutrients when drunk in excess.

Foods Tea Drinkers! Sep 23 2007

I have been trying to not drink so much tea lately. Instead I have been trying to do tisanes (herb "teas").

My favorite have been:
(I also get my tea in loose "leaf" form. I think it's better that way.)

  • Anise Stars
  • Licorice Root
  • Chamomile
  • Peppermint
  • Cinnamon Chips
I also like Mates. (Yerba Mate)
Foods Favorite Luna Flavors? Sep 23 2007
19:49 (UTC)
13

I like:

  • Peanut Butter Cookie
  • Nutz Over Chocolate
  • Chocolate Peppermint Stick
  • Chai Tea
  • Toasted Nuts N' Cranberry
But I hardly ever eat luna bars. They are a decent thing to eat when you can't eat a meal but they are in no way a meal replacer.

Anyway, when I do have to eat them instead of a meal I usually like the ones that don't remind me of a candy bar. Because when my stomach wants food it's more tricked by something like Toasted Nuts N' Cranberry than Peanut Butter Cookie.
Foods i think im eating to many vegetables? Sep 23 2007
19:39 (UTC)

I think you should be fine.
Just focus on getting a variety of colors in your vegetables and make sure to eat an adequate amount of calories that should also come from carbohydrates, proteins and fats. (the good kind. from avocados and nuts, exc..)

It might seem to you that you are eating too many vegetables in comparison to the people around you but most likely it is that other people are not getting enough.

Weight Loss Totally Freaking Out! Sep 23 2007
19:28 (UTC)
When you start a diet the transition should be gradual. If you have been eating 2000 or 2000+ calories a day and then cut your intake down to 1200 and start exercising regularly your body is going to react to this sudden change. You should try to cut it down gradually to 1800 than 1600 until you notice an amount that is working for your weight loss.

When you start consuming more calories after you have reached your goal weight you should do it the same way. Gradually eat just a little bit more until you are eating a safe amount of calories for you new weight [maintenance].
Health & Support Anyone else freeze? Sep 23 2007
19:15 (UTC)

If your body weight is too low or your body fat is too low you will usually experience this.

This could also be a sign of anemia. Maybe due to a lack of iron.

Iron deficiency anemia is caused by insufficient dietary intake or absorption of iron to replace losses from menstruation. (And normal loss throughout the day.)

There are also other symptoms.

  • feeling of weakness or fatigue
  • general discomfort
  • poor concentration
  • shortness of breath on exertion
I hope this helped.

Vegetarian Concerns about a vegan diet ... Sep 23 2007
09:13 (UTC)

B-12 is a toughy.
There is a lot of debate about it.
Since nutrition is a relatively new science it's hard to know what to believe.

What I stick to though is this.
Nutritional yeast, fortified foods and supplements are all good sources of B-12 for vegans.

But there is also some debate over how well it is absorbed when this vitamin comes from plant sources. I don't see really why that would be but I am not a scientist either so I just don't know.

Foods Most filling low-cal snack? Sep 23 2007

Puffed rice cereal (60 cals/cup)
Air popped popcorn (20 cals/cup)
(Nori) Seaweed (10 cals/sheet) Not really that filling but a really good snack!

Cabbage Soup (I don't know the calorie contant but it's just broth and cabbage so it has to be pretty low. And warm foods are a lot more filling than cold foods.)
