| Weight Loss | Losing weight by eating white bread | Nov 29 2007 14:10 (UTC) |

LOL, I didn't mean that white bread made me lose weight. I know I worded it that way...but I was typing fast...not what I meant... I know why I'm losing weight....I eat a LOT of fiber from vegetables as well as lean protein and I avoid sugar (except for those Starbucks Peppermint Mochas) I eat 1300-1500 calories a day. I just thought it was funny that I was still losing weight after I switched to white bread. I thought for sure I would have gained weight. |

Me too. I eat at a specific time every single day. My nutritionist said it trains my body to expect a meal at the same time and it will not freak out. I don't get hungry in between meals. I also choose more quality foods. I expect wrath for this post, but I don't need everyone to agree with me. |

I did a little experiment once. I ate balanced meals 4 times a day with one snack (usually at lunch) which was a sugary snack. Calories were at 2000-2200 a day. Being highly active, I usually burn about 3000-3500 calories a day. However, I was gaining weight like crazy. NINE pounds in one week. So, I started eating three meals a day, each having 500-600 calories each, plus one snack in the evening, usually about 200-300 calories. This time, I ate NO sugary snacks. Only healthy snacks. So, I was still consuming roughly the same amount of calories. I lost SIX pounds in two weeks. So, for me personally, sugar has a HUGE affect on my weight. I just wonder if some people might not realize that they sabotage their diet efforts by eating sweets, even if it's in their alloted daily caloric intake. I realize that sugar doesn't have this effect on everyone, but it you're counting calories and have reached a plateau, it might be time to reevaluate what's in your diet. |

I have a man's figure- wide shoulders and a narrow waist. So when I am overweight, I look like a gorilla. I hate back fat. I jokingly call myself "fatback" LOL |

I write for a women's magazine and did a lot of research before I wrote this article on the perils of diet drinks and the sources are cited in the article: http://bellamagazine.com/archive/june/story_s oda.shtml From personal experience: I started drinking "diet sodas" and gained 5 pounds in a week. I couldn't even button my pants. I eliminated all sugars (exept healthy fruits and grains) from my diet and lost 6 pounds in two weeks without counting calories. Sugars from fruit (fructose) don't cause a rapid rise in blood sugar like other sugars, esp. artificial sweeteners. Fruit is not bad, but oreos are.

I totally agree with the above poster. AVOID fake sugar. There's a lot of info out there about how bad splenda is for you. Agave is a natural sweetner and stevia is awesome and has no calories! |

With me, it's my MIL. The woman is just plain vindictive. When I tell her I don't eat sweets, she goes out of her way to bake brownies, even though she hasn't baked brownies in six months. My husband FLIPS OUT when she does this. He wants me to lose weight more than anyone else and he almost yells at her. "Mom, are you crazy. She doesn't need that!" LOL I think she WANTS me to get fat so he'll leave me. Of course he's not that shallow but when we met I was a size 4 and I went to a size 12/14. I've lost 15 pounds and I'm a size 8 but I have about 15 more pounds to go! |

Wow. I am 5 foot 4 and have a small frame. When I weighed 125 lbs I was at 15% body fat and wearing a size 3. 125 lbs for your height seems a little unrealistic. |

I would avoid those bars. They are highly processed, even though they are labeled as "healthy." In addition, granola tends to be fattening, at least to me it is. I avoid sugar in any form, real or fake. Fake sugar is even worse (see my article titled, Skip that Diet Soda at http://bellamagazine.com/archive/june/story_s oda.shtml ) Eat lots of lean meat, fish and chicken. Eat plenty of vegetables and make sure you get some fruit in there (morning is best, I don't eat any carbs after 3pm) |
