Dress as a substitute teacher- normal, teacherish clothes from the front, but have the back covered in spitballs, gum, paper airplane in your hair, kick me sign, etc. I had a teacher in high school who came as a devil in a blue dress. Just wearing a blue dress with devil horns, it was pretty cute. |

I used to be the same way in high school and middle school (first year uni now). Try to drink lots of water during the day, particularly when you're eating. Maybe it's just me, but it feels like water expands the food in your stomach or something...Feel fuller. Make sure your substantial meals aren't junk...Probably a given, but still needs to be said. If you're eating a substantial amount of french fries for lunch, then yeah, you'll feel hungry after school :P There's nothing really wrong with eating a snack after school though. Some light yogourt and almonds, fruit and peanut butter, veggies and dip or something. If you're seriously hungry- eat! |

I agree with everyone else saying that it's not exactly a revolutionary idea, and that it's pretty expensive for what it is, but... I have a friend who started this system a few months before senior prom. She lost a good deal of weight (don't know how much, but she looked great) didn't have trouble sticking to the diet, and somehow managed to keep it off after prom. I'm not endorsing nutrisystem or anything, a year ago I would have said it was bull. But I am personally kind of curious now. Maybe if you have extra money kicking around anyway...? haha. Good luck |

Final exam. 40% of my mark. I'm emailing the professor now, calling his office number soon as well...I already went to his office, he wasn't there (at 6pm on a Friday, no suprise). The kicker? I'm supposed to be flying home tomorrow at 9am. I am an absolute moron. |

Agreed. Where I live, it's too cold to comfortably go for a walk or run outside, but there's no snow yet... Try buying an aerobics dvd and some handweights- you don't need much space, and there are lots of fun workout tapes available today (Hiphop abs, yoga booty ballet, etc). This post my receive more replies on the fitness board, by the way :) |

Thanks for posting this. I always read about how a 35" waist puts you at risk for heart disease...I'm 18 and my waist is 31", which I thought was way too close for comfort. But that chart says I'm in an okay zone. Hopefully it's right. At the very least it makes me feel better :) |

Having worked as a waitress before, I'd like to point out that it can be serious cardio. So you may be burning more calories than you think...? I definitely understand getting caught in an awkwardly timed eating rut while working as a waitress though. On your off days, can you eat something other than a meal at 3/4? Maybe a light broth-based soup or salad or something. You could also try drinking more water/tea. You probably know that hunger and thirst can sometimes be confused...as well, water or tea can fill you up a bit. Just a thought. Good luck

Hey everyone, thanks for the responses. Thanks for the perspective, especially. It is true that if a guy acted like that, I'd be pissed. It's just that I don't know if I've been unintentionally flirting with her or anything; it never occurred to me. Gahhhh, I really wish she'd never said anything to begin with, because now I'm getting all upset about it. And I can't talk to anyone in real life because I promised I wouldn't tell people. Just to clarify to the first response- no, this is definitely not fun for me...It's awkward and uncomfortable, and I really did not try to make it sound like I am enjoying it. And spirochete, sorry, I don't usually post here, so I didn't know about the rule...Maybe they should rename the site or something :P Your post made me laugh out loud though, thank you |

First, I just want to admit that I am completely unsuited for having a roomate- I have three brothers and am the only girl, been spoiled, had my own room my whole life...You get the picture. The worst thing about my roomate is that she never leaves the room. Seriously. She's sort of a nerd, doesn't have a lot of friends...Stays in every night of the week. Basically she only leaves when she has class. Not to be whiney, but sometimes I like to be alone. Plus everyone on the floor is always making fun of her and asking me how weird she is, and I don't want to be mean but I also don't want to spend my entire life defending her :S haha Th alarm clock thing is also seriously annoying. She lets hers go off for a long time, but she also sets it to go off every 20-30 minutes each morning, starting at about 8 when she doesn't even have to get up until 10 or 11. Sooo annoying, because I can't get back to sleep after I've woken up. |

I amin university as well, and I'm not going to lie...I've been practically living off sandwiches. Buy some deli meat, bread, and low-cal condiments- hot sauce, light italian, lettuce and other veggies, pickles and olives. Something else that is really convenient- soups. Buy a container of chicken broth, heat it on the stove, add your own veggies...I like to add an egg as well. The cup of soup things are also really good as a snack, as are apples and peanut butter. Good luck |

| Weight Loss | Everything is right, so what's wrong?! | Sep 25 2008 01:13 (UTC) |

First- I would say that 5'7" and 130lbs is already on the low end, bmi-wise. Second- I tend to binge as well, and this usually happens to me when I restrict too much. I'm not talking about eating too few calories, I'm talking about not eating anything that's bad for you. It's a good idea to have one small cheat everyday or one bigger cheat once a week. I think it's really important not to beat yourself up so much. You appear to be working really hard, and I understand how frustrating it is to work hard and not get the results. Since you're already fairly slim though, it will take you longer to lose weight than it would someone who is more overweight to begin with. So it may be better to expect to lose something like half a pound every two weeks, as depressing as that sounds. (Sorry if that sounds really condescending, I know you probably already know all the stuff I just said.) Also, not to criticise, but are you sure your doctor was encouraging you to lose weight? He said to stay on the lower end of the BMI chart, yes, but I would say you're already there. Maybe you should double check to see if he thinks you need to lose weight to avoid being at risk for diabetes...Just saying, it could take one major stress out of your weight loss if you weren't also worrying about doing it for health reasons. Good Luck |

Sweet and crunchy: Apples with caramel sauce (very little, or else it's too sweet), Yogourt with almonds Salty: Not going to lie, I usually end up caving in on salty cravings. What sometimes works: Egg drop soup(really filling), carrots with low-cal ranch dip, hard boiled egg with salt When I'm craving fast food, I get a 6" turkey sub on whole wheat from subway...Obviously not a snack, but it's a bit of a treat and low calorie |

I try really, really hard to ignore people who say they feel the need to binge at TTOM, or that most women do. Because I think that if no one gave me permission to binge at a certain time of month, then i probably wouldn't do it. This may not be the case for you- maybe you really are suffering massive cramps, heavy flow, etc and food seems to be the answer. But I've found personally that if I just stop thinking of it as an excuse and hold myself accountable for my actions regardless of the time then I don't actually have more cravings than any other time of the month. Could be just me. If you find that you're really tired during TTOM, try making time for extra sleep- a quick nap sometime in the day. A lot of people end up eating more when they're tired. Also- if your binge was something like two cookies, then really- no big deal. Some studies have shown that we burn more calories at TTOM anyway. If you ate 2000 extra calories...Then yeah, it is a big deal. Try to get more sleep, eat more filling foods, more fibre. Don't beat yourself up, just get back on the wagon ASAP. Good luck |

| Foods | PIZZA from a non-famous restaurant | Aug 14 2008 01:09 (UTC) |

It's hard to guess the calories exactly. Was it thin crust or thick? Did it taste a lot like a pizza you had from somewhere else (pizza hut, pizza pizza, etc)? If it did, I would record it as a slice from one of those places. If it had a lot of cheese, I might add in some more calories for that. When I have to estimate something like that, I usually add at least 100 calories to my estimate. Assuming you're trying to lose weight, it's usually better to overestimate than under. The 14-16" is for the whole pizza (that would be a huge slice!) |

| Weight Loss | When to start counting again? | Aug 12 2008 16:40 (UTC) |
14 |
I sort of end up really counting for a week every few weeks. I start out counting, doing just fine, but get bored of writing down every morsel. Then I start keeping track of calories in my head, but not as strictly for a few weeks. I don't know about you, but I always notice that if I stop strictly counting for too long then I start losing touch a little and eating too much. If not counting is working for you, then that's great. You may find as you get closer to your goal that it becomes more important to moniter everything you eat. |

| Weight Loss | The first part of me that loses weight is my FACE. | Aug 11 2008 01:42 (UTC) |

A few things... First- if you have gone overboard losing weight in the past, it's pretty natural for your parents to be watchful. Which you probably know. I think you should try to build back the trust. Maybe instead of telling them that you want to lose weight, say that you want to eat healthier. And instead of refusing to eat what everyone else is eating for dinner, maybe see if you can substitute one small thing. If the things they want you to eat are really unhealthy (deep-fried, oil covered, etc) it shouldn't be that hard to prove it to them (provided they feel like listening). You could try printing info off the internet for them to read explaining why certain things are unhealthy. If you really are going overboard (ie not eating anything that gets less than an A or B grade on this site) then it should be more difficult to convince them. I don't know very much about you, so I'm sorry if my answer wasn't all that helpful...Your post sounds a bit like you may be trying to lose too much weight (I could be completely wrong, so no offense) and I don't want to encourage anyone to hurt themselves. But if you are just trying to lose a healthy amount of weight in a healthy manner, then good luck |

I'm a dancer myself. To be honest, I think lyrical is sort of a weird place to start (no offense). It's almost a combo of jazz and ballet, so if you start in one or both of those you'd be more prepared. But hey, if lyrical is what you want to do, go for it. The best attitude going into a class is to not care what other people think. If you think other people are laughing at your lame moves- for one thing, they're probably not (how many, many times I have glared at someone I think is mocking my dancing just to find out that they're laughing at something else- paranoid!) and for another, who cares what they think. As well, when you're uncomfortable you don't usually dance as well...So chill out, don't have really high standards for yourself, and do your best. Finally- Different places have different sort of feels to them. You may go to one class and come home thinking, "Oh God, never again"...But think about whether it's because you actually didn't enjoy dancing, or if it's because you didn't like the teacher/students/general atmosphere/dance style (many different types of lyrical styles out there). It's never a bad idea to try a couple of different studios, find one you really like, and make the most of the whole dance experience...If that doesn't sound ridiculously corny, haha.\ Good luck! |

| Health & Support | Diet Pills? | Jul 29 2008 17:36 (UTC) |

I'm a little embarassed to say I've tried taking a few kinds of diet pills...and for the most part they haven't worked. The only one I found did anything was Slimquick. I used to be able to eat a whole big mac meal at Mcdonalds, but when I tried to do it after taking Slimquick I could only eat about 3/4 of the sandwich and a few fries. (Yeah, I was on an interesting diet on the time. I call it basically not a diet, just using pills). The problem for me is that I don't tend to eat so much because I'm actually hungry, I eat because I enjoy eating, haha. So if you just don't want to feel hungry, then Slimquick may work for ya. Good luck |

| Weight Loss | Ever get the feeling that your scale may be playing mind games...? | Jul 29 2008 06:24 (UTC) |
4 |
Is it sad that it cheers me up to read that it's actually a world-wide conspiracy, and not just my scale? And for those of you who brought up doctor's scales, I would like to announce that I've figured those ones out. They operate on a special formula, as follows: Multiply what you think you weigh by the amount that your sense self-worth will drop if you weigh more than that amount. Add twenty. Subtract 2. Add back five. Divide by two. (hahahaha, kidding. No division, suckers). Finally, add in a tactless nurse. Because I know for me, personally, I just can't really feel fat til someone yells out my weight in the middle of a crowded waiting room. So, the best way to weigh less at the doctors is not to go. The next best way is, of course, to sever a limb. To be really skinny, sever two. Good luck! |

| Weight Loss | Does anyone know how many calories are burned.... | Jul 27 2008 02:32 (UTC) |
9 |
Hey, I never thought of walking in water! And I have an in-ground pool! Here's what I found: You may burn up to 250 calories by walking for 30 minutes in water up to your chest. To burn that many calories you have to move your arms around in the water. (from www.discoverwalking.com/blog/burn-calories-walk-in-water.php) Another site says: (http://www.diabetic-lifestyle.com/articles/ju n01_burni_1.htm)
Neither site is really reputable or anything, so these numbers may not be right...They also don't make any mention of weight. But try googling it yourself, you may find some more info. Good luck, and thanks for the great idea |

Sorry to add another depressing comment, but I've also tried the fat loss for idiots diet and it did not work for me. I found the food choices really hard to stick to- a meal would be something like pastrami. Or turkey, or milk. You could eat as much as you wanted, but after three days, I found that I didn't actually want to eat any of it anymore. It was way too monotonous for me. I did lose 2 lbs in three days, but I ended up gaining it back. |

I agree with gi-jane... know they're trying to help people make a more educated decision about what they're eating. | Fitness | Getting annoyed... | Jul 14 2008 15:27 (UTC) |
11 |
I hate people who crap out on plans...It's so annoying. Also the main reason why I don't have a workout buddy, haha First off, I think you should talk to her. If you guys really are friends, then she probably isn't intentionally screwing you over. Maybe something is going on in her life right now. Maybe she's kind of getting sick of working out, and wants to stop, or she thinks she's not seeing results or something. Just sit down and have a nice, non-confrontational chat about it. If talking doesn't get you anywhere, and she keeps hanging you out to dry, you can try: a) just leave without her next time. Wait about five minutes, then say screw it. b) Make the workout plans according to when it suits you- ie, not getting up early on your day off, or c) Keep doing what you're doing.
