The Lounge Anyone seen Paranormal Activity? Nov 02 2009
16:23 (UTC)

I wouldn't watch the preview before going to it.  It pretty much shows everything that is going to happen.  I personally thought Blair Witch was scarier.  I couldn't sleep for a week after seeing that one.  I took my 14 year old daughter to see Paranormal Activity and we were both disappointed.  We liked it, but we just weren't as scared as we thought we would be. I rented Blair Witch for her to watch and after I started thinking about it, I decided not to let her watch it until she is older.  She isn't very happy with me about that.  But I don't want her sleeping in my bed for the next month! Smile

You can catch the other ending to Paranormal Activity on youtube, but I think the one they used is better.

Loved the Skeleton Key!

Favorite scary movie...The Blair Witch Project..still won't go camping!  We rented it last night so that our 14 year old daughter could see it.  We haven't watched the movie yet, just the documentary part of it and I am already re-thinking whether or not she should see it!

Paranormal Activity...what a disappointment...after all of the hype, I thought I would have at least one restless night, but no, I slept just fine!

Fitness Running Fail? Oct 14 2009

I have read that a woman that weighs 150 pounds and over should buy shoes that are motion control.  I have a normal arch so I bought a stability shoe.  I weigh 170 (I am 5'11") What is the opinion on this?  I currently run in  Asics 1140. I am a beginner that runs 3 minutes, walks 1 min for 30-40 minutes three times a week. I don't have any problems at all, but want to get new shoes in a couple months and wonder if I should consider motion control because of my weight. Thanks.  (sorry if I should have asked this in my own tread)

Chocolate covered bacon was a big thing at the Iowa State Fair this year.  I did not try it.  ( I didn't go to the fair) I love chocolate, I love bacon, but together?  I don't know.

I think "Bob's your Uncle"  is a funny quote I've heard.  I think it means "there you have it".  I do have an Uncle Bob, so when we hear it in British movies, we always say, "Bob is my Uncle!"  Our friend that lives in London said if you are feeling "cheeky"  you should say "Roberts your fathers brother"

My husband loves British movies!  Sometime we have to put on the sub titles though because they all talk so fast we need to read it to get what they said!  A few of his favorites-Lock Stock and Two Smoking Barrels, Layer Cake, Snatch and Rocknrolla.

Oh, I loved London!  Why do I have to live in IOWA?

I added a teaspoon of Pb and a teaspoon of cherry jam.  Yummy.  I just switched from oatmeal to cream of wheat this morning!  I was wondering if cream of wheat would be good with a little parm cheese sprinkled on top to make it savory instead of sweet.  I might give it a try.  Maybe add an over easy egg on top? That could be good.

Running around shopping for school supplies we were asked by several people if we were getting ready to send our daughter off to college.  We were shocked!  No, she's 13!  We are getting ready to send her to the 8th grade!!  But I remember when I was her age, I was always mistaken for being older.  Now at 39, I think I still look pretty young.  Sorry, no pictures, someday I will figure out how to put one on here.

I remembered that Spiro had started a discussion about the Fitflops when they first came out.  I thought all of the response to a shoe that helped exercise your legs was so funny.  When I saw that Reebok and Sketchers were now marketing a shoe that helps tone your legs and burn calories, I just had to let her know!!

Allison, So my BMR is 1544.  To lose my last 10 pounds, I want to eat at least 1544 calories and then also eat back the calories I burn through exercise?  Sorry, I am easily confused, so I wanted to be sure I understood.  Thanks!

YES!  I have lost 30 pounds since I started running in March.  I started out slow with walking 30 seconds and jogging 30 seconds. Each week I would jog a little more and walk a little less.  Now I can run 2 miles without stopping.  I am working towards 3 miles so that I can run 5K's.  But each day I mix it up.  Some times I run 5 minutes and then walk 5 minutes for a total of 60 minutes.  Other days I just run my 2 miles and get it over with.  Most days I walk for 5 minutes, run for 15, walk for 1 minute and then run til I get home which is about another 10 minutes or so.  I do want to try HIIT though.  Unfortunately I don't think I can sprint.  I don't have "fast" in me.  But I will try it someday!

I'm the opposite.  Thinking my neighbors/friends might see me is what keeps me running.  I am a beginner and have been walk/jogging for a couple months now.  Everytime I see a neighbor they tell me what a good job I'm doing, so now I want to make sure that when or if they do see me, they see me jogging NOT walking.

Now some people get yelled at from cars, and of course that can be upsetting.  In the whole time, I've only had one car load of boys yell at me, it was the last day of school so I think they were in a good mood.  But I had my ipod on and I have no idea if they said something negative or positive.  I like to think it was something nice.  But if not, I'll never know.  I've lost 30 pounds and learning to run has been hard, but I can run 2 miles now without stopping and I am so excited about that....so let 'em see me!  I rock!Laughing

Thanks!  I feel pretty good at 170, and know 155 would be hard to achieve.  I think the number is so unimportant.  Unfortunately, I do carry all of my weight in the middle.  Wish I could shift it around to the booty!

Thanks for getting back to me so quickly!

lightluv17, that formula you gave me, about adding 5 pounds for every inch over 5 ft, how does that work for men?  I have a co-worker that insists it's 10 pounds, not 5, but that would put me at a "healthy" weight of 210!  I know she's wrong.  But another co-worker and I got started talking about it and wondered if it is the same for men.  Just wondered if you knew.  Thanks!  Elle

I just had my one year anniversary!  I am so happy I had it done!  Before I had it done, I hated working out.  Whenever I was in my kickboxing class when we did jumping jacks, I would have to stand and wait until we moved on to something different.  I couldn't jog either.   I also had back pain.  In the summer when I got hot, I would sweat and smell and break out.  I could never find a bra that fit.  I hated being so huge!  Now, I can run!  I still wear a supportive bra because they can still get sore from bouncing, even though I am a happy little C.  I have lost almost 30 pounds!  The only thing I am unhappy about are the scars.  In most places they healed nicely, but I have a few spots that are thick and very red.  You will have scars all the way around both nipples with a scar that goes straight down from the nipple to scars that go all the way from in between your breasts to almost under your armpits.  You will be in pain for a long time.  Even after a year I can have some discomfort, but not much.  But I still think it was worth it.  Luckily insurance paid, but I had to have a certain amount taken off to qualify, so I had to go a little smaller than I wanted to.  I didn't have to prove any back pain, I just had to be willing to have the required amount of breast removed.  But I think I was a G cup, so I had plenty to lose.  I think I had almost 7 pounds removed!!  Go talk to a plastic surgeon, they will answer all of your questions.  Feel free to ask me anything you want also!  Good luck!

American Eagle has nice jeans too.  You can go to the store and have them order the x-long and have them delivered to you without paying the shipping.  But I only buy them when they are on sale.  I'll have to try The Gap.  Heals?  I'd love to wear them, but I'd fall on my a**!

When I was young I hated being tall, but as an adult I really like it.

madpampees, Congrats on the weight loss!  That is awesome!

I don't think my butt can get any flatter!

I just heard that the other day.  I think it's a pretty good place to start, keeping in mind that based on your frame size you could weigh more or less.  I have a small frame so should probably weigh less than my goal weight.  But 155 seems so far away right now.  I make up mini-goals so that it seems easier to achieve them.

When I take her to the Dr. I make sure that her Dr. tells her that her weight is perfect.  She doesn't believe me, but she does believe her.

By the way, we wear the same size but are different in weight and height.  Every body is shaped different.  It's a good thing to remember.  We won't all weigh exactly the same at a certain height and we won't all wear the same size at a certain weight!Laughing

I'm 5'11", I currently weigh 171.  I am down from 200.  I feel really good now, but I still need to lose a few more pounds.  I think I am going to try to maintain this weight for a month and then try to lose 10 more pounds.  When I was younger I weighed 140ish and was very skinny.  I have no desire to weigh that again.  Really I don't care what the number is as long as I feel and look healthy.  I am sad when I see tall girls that want to weigh 120. They need to understand that because they are taller, they will weigh more.  My 13 year old daughter is 5'7" and weighs 135 and looks great!  Very healthy and athletic, but then she hears that her friend only weighs 85 pounds and gets all upset.  What she doesn't get is that her friend is less than 5' tall!  But then I read about women on here that are 5'7" and want to weigh 115 pounds and I wonder if I should worry about my daughters weight.  It's crazy because I know how great she looks and if she weighed 115 pounds that would be when I should worry!!

By the way...the first thing to go on me is ALWAYS my butt!

mightymouse...I don't mean that there is alot of swearing on the radio. What I am talking about are songs like Britney Spears-If You Seek Amy, or Flo Rida-You Spin My Head Right Round, Black Eyed Peas-My Humps, Akon-Smack That....and many more.  It's the suggestive songs that bother me.  I'm just old! Smile It's not like I didn't listen to George Michael's I Want your Sex,  and Frankie Goes to Hollywood 's Relax!

My husband and I always joked about how cute it was to listen to our 10 year old daughter running around the house singing about her "lovely lady lumps"!

I don't want to sound like an old lady, but there are tons of inappropriate songs on the radio.  My 13 year old daughter gets so mad at me when I tell her she can't download a song because the lyrics are "naughty".  I also turn the radio station when the songs come on, but I can't control what she is listening to at her friends houses.  Thankfully she doesn't get what they mean most of the time.

Fitness I need running shoe help! May 17 2009
05:04 (UTC)

I had the same problem.  I was told that I could lace and tie my shoes differently to cup my heal so that it doesn't slip at all.  It is really hard to explain how to do it, and they did show me at the store, but my memory sucks.  I just googled "how to tie my running shoes" and found the instructions on a running site.  Basically you make bunny ears and put the stings through the loops and it makes it so you can pull the heels tighter.  I have been doing it for a week or so and they do fit better.

Fitness surgery recovery and NOT MOVING?!?!?! May 14 2009

This probably sounds hokey, but when I had my surgery I went on a "healing" diet.  I found it on a surgical web-site.  I'm sorry, I can't find it now.  Supposedly pineapple is good to help with healing scars.  Drinking warm water with lemon juice helps to flush the anesthesia from your system.  Eating a banana a day the week before the surgery was suggested for the potassium.  Eating yogurt every day helped in some way. (?) It was suggested that you eat protein with each meal.  Like I said, probably silly, but I was so worried about my surgery, I followed it.  I have no idea what it did, but I did lose 14 pounds.  Although part of that was what I had had removed from the chest area!Laughing

Remember to take it easy.  You don't want to rush back into exercise.  Wait until your doctor says it's ok to exercise.  I put a hold on my gym membership for 2 months.  I wasn't allowed to exercise for 8 weeks.  (I had breast reduction surgery)

Good luck though!

Weight Loss Is anyone else having trouble losing weight on the birth control shot??? May 12 2009

I haven't gained weight on it and I have been on it for a couple years now.  I did have problems losing weight, but I think that was my fault.  After I stopped overeating and really started working out, I did lose weight.  But I have heard that you can gain about 10 pounds on birth control pills and from the shot, and I suppose everyone is different in the way they will affect you.  I think that your doctor is wrong, because when I decided to get the shot, my doctor warned me that I could gain on it.  I don't remember her saying anything about not being able to lose though.   Good luck!

The Lounge Do you or anyone you know sit on a pilates ball at their work desk? May 07 2009

I have done it.  I think it mostly helped with my posture.  I tend to slouch in a regular chair and it makes my back hurt.  When I sit on the ball I keep my back straight and have to balance on it.  I felt it in my abs at first, but after a while I didn't notice that it was doing anything.  I wanted my ball at home, so I don't have it here in the office anymore.  I plan to buy a second ball someday, because I did like sitting on it to keep my posture in check.
