Hostel for me. We watched it about a month or so before going to Germany, where we planned to visit old castles and dungeons and all kinds of medevil places. So I got to be creeped out by it again when I saw those places that looked like they could have been straight from the movie! |

I have a sudoku-a-day calendar, and one with my wedding pictures (from 4.5 years ago) that a friend made for me for Christmas. I love both of them, but I was really touched and surprised by. She's a sweetie |

| The Lounge | Does anyone actually enjoy their job??? | Oct 10 2008 04:32 (UTC) |
|
I love my job too! I'm an actuary at an insurance company. It's not for everyone, you kind of have to be a total math geek to like it.
It may help you to talk to one of the professors for one of the classes you love. They generally have an idea or two about how their teachings can be applied to real world jobs. You'll find something you want to do, you may just have to look hard and research it more. My husband is actually trying to figure out what he wants to do when he graduates in just a couple months. |

Bubble baths with a good book or new magazine. Take one of the dogs on a long walk. Take a nap. Work on a scrapbook page or make some cards. Play some feel-good poppy-punk type music. I wish I wasn't at work so I could go do some of this stuff now... |

I love this recipe from the New Dieter's Cookbook. It uses fat-free evaporated milk to make a creamy sauce. soooo delish! |

I prefer having an agent that can help me with anything I need. I currently have State Farm and have the best agent ever. I had Country Companies before, liked the agent, but I moved out of town, the prices for me were better with State Farm. At any rate, I say if you love the agent, stick with them. |

Ugh! My hubby is one of those people who can't NOT answer their phone. He once answered his phone while we were talking to the loan officer about refinancing our home loan! His excuse? It was a friend from high school who he hadn't talked to in a long time. Not sure why it couldnt' wait another 30 mins... spirochete, I would have been every bit as annoyed as you were! Rudeness is never acceptable. |

During High school: babysat (hated it!), worked at the snack stand at the local pool, Dairy Queen, took tickets at the state fair, worked at a fireworks stand. College: Worked the front desk and in the weight room at the rec center, later became building supervisor, refereed volleyball at night, cashier at Target, one summer in the HR department of a company that manufacured brake parts (I filed papers), couple of summer internships at an insurance company now: I'm an actuary at the insurance company that I interned for. Other than babysitting and Dairy Queen, I've liked my jobs. |

| Foods | Popped Popcorn - Question | Jun 05 2008 21:43 (UTC) |
3 |
My answer is similar to Sighing, I have an Act II butter bag in front of me. Serving size 2 tbsp (makes 5 cups popped). Servings per bag = 2.5. so it's 5*2.5=12.5 cups popped. It's 30 calories per cup popped, so it's 30*12.5=375 for the entire bag. I think I worked a butter lovers one out to 450 calories once (not sure the brand). I love popcorn, and if I pop a bag, I'm gonna eat the entire thing. So what I've done is started buying the 100 calorie or the single serving bags. Then I can still eat the entire bag, but the damage is much less. If I want a taste of the buttery stuff, I eat it when my hubby is around, he ends up eating most of it, but I still get the taste. Lucky for me he wants to gain weight :) |

I'm so frustrated with myself, I've lost nothing in like over a month now. I keep gaining and losing the same pound. I know why, I'm not keeping my calories under control. I'm feeling entitiled to a bowl of ice cream every night (not a small one). The last couple days have been better, but I need to find a way to regain my drive for this. I've kept a branch buring, I just need to turn it back into a full fledged fire!!! Anyone got some quotes or stories to fan my flame? |

What that calculator is telling you is that your body burns 1846 calories on days that you do nothing but get out of bed and basically sit around and do nothing extra all day. Based on that if you eat 1538 calories per day, you should lose .28 kg/week. Any exercise you do will increase the amount you burn, and should cause you to lose faster. Walking a couple miles a day will increase your burn by a couple hundred calories (use the activity log here to get a more accurate count). You do NOT need to burn an EXTRA 1846 per day to lose weight. But a couple hundred calories would do ya well! I hope that explanation helps. Good luck! |

QUESTION OF THE DAY - THURSDAY MAY 29 What have you done today to burn calories? Yesterday I walked a mile at work with a co-worker, then I ran some errands, cooked dinner (healthy for once!), and had a sand volleyball game. Too bad it wasn't really a good game, I don't feel like I got a good workout from it. Oh well. :) QUESTION OF THE DAY FOR FRIDAY MAY 30 Do you tell people when you are "dieting"? (Counting calories, trying to lose weight) Nope. When people know they want to know what the secret it. And they dont' like it when you tell them there is no secret, it's hard work, exercise, counting calories, etc. Then I see the disappointed look and eyes glaze over. |

| The Lounge | My Puppy was SOOO BAD!!! | May 29 2008 18:47 (UTC) |

Let's see, my dog chewed up the random shoe, and a remote when he was a puppy, but the worst was one of those pens with the liquid ink wells. I had a spot about a foot long by half a foot wide of black ink on my beige carpet. UGH! It took me about 3 days of scrubbing and 2 bottles of Resolve to get that all out of the carpet. But I did. :) He's really good now about only chewing on his own toys. Other than towels, he still thinks those are great fun! We've also been through our fair share of potty accidents, trash can tip-overs (trash is now closed up on the pantry) and jumping on people. |

My 75 days is just not getting off to the start I really wanted. It's time to pull in the reins and take control. At least I mowed the lawn yesterday.
Question of the Day (Tuesday 5/27) ...
Do you tend to eat the same basic breakfast every day, most of the time, or do you switch it around a lot? Are you happy with your breakfast? I generally have 3 breakfasts I choose from, Oatmeal (I have some Simple Harvest, some lower sugar, and some regular packets at work), Cereal (Fiber One or Kashi), or an eggbeater sandwich (1/4 cup eggbeaters, 1 slice fat free cheddar, 1 light multigrain english muffin). I dont' get hungry for a couple hours after I wake up, so I usually eat around 8:00-9:30, and it holds me until lunch at 11:30 or noonish. All of these are easily fixed at work. Soemtimes on weekends I make an eggbeater omelete with lots of peppers and mushrooms. I should try a protein shake sometime.
QUESTION OF THE DAY: WED MAY 28:
What proteins have you eaten today (or will you eat today?) Yesterday I had milk with my cereal in the morning, chicken in my frozen meal at lunch (yeah, I eat those), salmon at dinner. Unfortunately, I had chocolate and ice cream to balance that out. This is what I need to get under control. At least I'm drinking plenty of water!!! Today will be a GOOD day! |

I did OK this Memorial Day weekend, not great, not bad, just OK. Friday I slept in (I took the day off work), and babysat my nephew for about 6 hours. That little 9 month old ball of energy wore out both me and my hubby!! Whew, he's lucky he's adorably sweet! But we went out to eat that night with DH's sister and BIL, they were running late so we ended up having an appetizer while we waited. :( Saturday I went garage saleing in the morning with a friend, then my DHa nd I dug up rocks for about 4-5 hours. We're preparing to put in a patio, and we're doing the labor ourselves. Hopefully the rest of the utilities will come out and mark their buried lines, and we'll be able to start digging this week. Sunday we had a few people over for a mini cookout. So I had to clean the house, not much of a workout, but it's something. I had too much chips and dip, but didn't really overeat too badly. Monday I actually slept in really late :). I did a whole lot of nothing. It was really warm and muggy here, so I waited until 8:00 to head out for a jog with the dog, we did a little over 2.5 miles. yahoo! Questions I missed:
QUESTION OF THE DAY ... SOMETHING'S FISHY! Do you like fish? Do you eat fish? What sort of fish will you eat? And do you take a fish-oil supplement? (What the heck, do you own fish?) I like most fish, I really like salmon, shrimp (not cocktail, they're icky cold), and tilapia the best. i won't eat it raw, ewww. No supplements, and we don't own any fishies. QUESTION OF THE WEEKEND .... What special dieting challenges will you face (or did you face) this Memorial Day Weekend? And what's your plan for dealing with those challenges? I didn't plan ahead for anything, which is probably why I overindulged. But at least I got some exercise in! They probably evened out.
QUESTION OF THE DAY (MONDAY MAY 26)
Do you have a favorite day of the week for getting weighed? I weigh every day, but generally record on Thursdays or Fridays. But I feel like I need to see the daily fluctuations to be able to understand why they happen. |

I'm not fond of celery. It's mostly the little stringy things that don't always break off when you bite it. It's like a food that's trying to floss my teeth while I eat it. Now if you chop it up, and cook it in a soup until it's mushy, I'm fine with it. |

Oh I wanna play!! I absolutely adore summer, and getting outside and being more active in general. My goals: 1. Get back on track with my eating. This is gonna mean logging everything I eat (not just until I leave work). And I think it's time to re-measure some portions. I've been eyeballing, and quite frankly, I think I've been lying to myself more over the past month or so. 2. Back to a more regular exercise schedule. This will include walks at work, jogs with the dog, jogs/runs on my own to train for 5K's. Bicycling because darn it, I have a bicycle, I should use it. Same thing for rollerblades. Gotta use 'em. 3. Weight lifting and resistance exercises. I slack here. Badly. I need to work my muscles. I feel much weaker than I used to be. That's not a good feeling. 4. Cook more, eat out less. We dont' eat out a ton, but we could do it less. And when we do I could make better choices more often. But really I want to make the time to cook more.
I try to get my percentages around 20-25% fats, 25-30% protein, and 50-60% carbs. And fiber over 25-30 grams (I love fiber) I'm looking forward to this summer!!! |

| The Lounge | Does Struggling With Weight Mean We've All been Abused in the Past? | May 13 2008 14:18 (UTC) |
28 |
I've never been abused. In fact, I've had a pretty 'normal' life. I'm sure if you did a formal study, you'd probably find a higher prevalence of weight issues (all weight issues, both over and underweight) among people who were abused in the past, but I don't think there would be a one-to-one correlation. |

Sorry I haven't checked in. I had my big exam today (I've been locking myself in my office at home for the last several weeks, in addition to studying while at work), so I'm now free and ready to get back to this whole weight loss thing. I jsut couldn't concentrate on both successfully. Luckily, even though I've been eating crap and not exercising, I really haven't gained (a pound or less) so I'm super excited to really throw myself back into counting and exercising and all that. Hopefully I'll be back to having progress to report by this Friday!! |
