Health & Support Bulimia Mar 13 2008

i was in a similar situation.. although, at first, i didn't think purging was that big of a deal every once in a while. btw, in the beginning i never binged. it started out w/ me restricting my calories to about 300 cals a day, and then i decided even that was too much and i purged one day... and yeah, it got 500000000 times worse when i got to college.

ok, long story slightly shorter- this happened just a couple times a month, but then it started happening every day. now i'm fighting bulimia tooth and nail. i purge almost ever day, at least once. the only time i don't purge is when i eat raw vegetables, like carrots, salad, etc. it really does become an addiction and it is very likely that you will not be able to stop (now when i purge it's just like my stomach literally can't keep anything down).

please try to get help. i agree with the first responder, it might be too much to tell your parents or a counselor, but a good friend will be able to help a lot. good luck :)

Weight Loss Do you find that coffee or caffeine intake affect weight loss? Nov 05 2007

caffeine definitely helps suppress my appetite, and i have heard it helps in calorie burning, but i drink a glass of water for everything caffeinated i drink to help with dehydration. i think that's a pretty good rule of thumb.
Foods I have a serious chocolate addiction, how to curb it? Oct 22 2007

oh, i have a huge chocolate addiction, too.  it's awful.

DON'T do the cold-turkey thing (obviously you've figured that out...) and DON'T cut it  out completely!! that second part was one of the worst dieting mistakes i've ever made.  moderation is key... we've all heard it. it's true, though.

get a bag of chocolate chips, and have just a few at night. or, buy those tiny candy bars that are out now for halloween. then you still have to exercise some self-control! i've been known to eat half a bag of chocolate chips, or even an entire bag of halloween candy (usually after restricting myself before that).

i know this might sound a little weird, but i LOVE those frozen sliced carrots and frozen cut green beans. 2/3 of a cup is about 30 calories, and it usually satisfies my cravings for a midnight snack!
Fitness Hip pain/popping? Oct 11 2007

energygirl,

i was a hurdler in track, too! but only for 3 years, my PT made me quit b/c my shin splints got so bad. :/ but my hips pop sooo much! i really didn't think a hip joint was anything you could make "looser," other than just stretching those muscles, i wonder if it really is related to all those hip swinging workouts we do!

i also have hip snapping syndrome.. it's kind of annoying b/c my hips pop really loud, and ppl always look at me like i broke a bone, lol

i would say you could probably log it as "calisthenics." try typing that in to the activities search and see what you think. there are two types that show up, i think it's Heavy & Light. i'm pretty sure that Heavy Calisthenics would be close to accurate.

we are totally in the same boat here! i am in my second year at my university, and there is an amazing gym here, but i have been way too intimidated to try it.

does your gym have small group fitness classes like pilates, yoga, kickboxing, or cardio stuff? ours has a great selection of group classes, and these were really good ways to work out each day to start out.

i'm actually planning on going to the gym tomorrow morning, hopefully there won't be a lot of experienced people there... they make me so nervous!

look into the small groups, otherwise, maybe start out on the treadmill or elliptical machines to burn some cals. then while you're there, you'll pick up on some other things!
