Hi all I need to loose weight. I don't want to diet, I am trying to change my lifestyle. I am 33 years old and am on medication for high chlorestoral, high blood pressure and Crohn's. So my change needs to be permanent. Another problem is that I have really long legs, arms and broad shoulder, but I have no torso at all. My torso is so short that my fat sits around like a tire. Now the three kids gave me the lower half, but I had surgery two years ago and now the top half of my "stomach" sits over my pants. I have started doing 10 min a day - pilates-abs, which I find is working well (my stomach muscles still hurt). I have started getting up earlier to walk for twenty minutes using weights. Wish me luck! Starting weight 212 6/5/08 (Jan 2008 weight 233, down 21lbs yeah!) Goal weight is 146 |

I love bread! As with all the posting the key is moderation the same as everything else. When I was a kid, we would eat a loaf a day. Love it and pasta, that is why changing my lifestyle has been hard. I don't know what to buy and what not to buy. I wish someone could just give me a list and tell me what to eat! |

Original Post by liza413: I have that disorder as well. Mine is labeled crohn's disease. My body has a terrible time trying to break down veggies and fruits and it caused me alot of gas and bloating, not to mention frequent bathroom trips. However, one symptom of this disorder is weight loss. I had lost 50lbs in the 6 months it took to diagnose. That is one of the tall tail signs, as well as foods, such as corn, coming out whole in your bms. More than likely, it is just the fiber. |

Original Post by januaryld: Januaryld, I am trying to find that balance as well. Did you take the eating quiz here on CC? It said that I have time management issues, which is why I do not find time to eat the right foods or exercise. I am also in school (5 classes til graduation), work full time, along with 3 kids (4 if you count my husband:). Trying to find time to do laundry is difficult, so how could I get to the gym? Well, I decided to make my housework my gym. I carry the baskets of clean and dirty clothes, up and down the steps (before, I would just yell to the kids to get the clothes). On Sunday's I prep and cook most of my dinners for the week and freeze them. While doing so, I blast the music and make a point of stepping to each beat. Whether it is walking to the fridge or cutting onions. I keep my body in constant motion. Sometimes when I am sitting and watching television, I will do 10 crunches during a commercial or pick up my 3lb weights and do a few arm exercises. I sit at a desk at my job. However, I make it a point to get up for 10 minutes every two hours to walk to the first floor and walk back to the third. I was told the whole point is to up your activity level. I don't think it really matters how you do it. We can do this. It doesn't happen overnight, don't worry you will find your path. Just stay committed. |

I have been doing well this time. I have not pigged out, because I cleaned out all of the cabinets. LOL. I am going to try the broccoli, as I am a chocolate craver during my TOM. Good suggestion, of course it is not as sweet and forbidden as a candy bar, but if it helps, I am willing to try it. On another note, has any one experienced extreme cramps when working out during TOM? I tried to do one set of my exercises and I went into a pain fit. The only thing that seems to work is walking. |

I have had several of both. For me drinking that evil GoLitely was worse than giving birth. My doctor told me to put it in some apple juice, well I don't drink apple juice anymore! That stuff is nasty. As everyone else has said, drink it fast! I never had to RUN to the bathroom, but I did go more often.

| If your doctor share a safe diet plan, please share. As you know from the other post Carocoho, I have Crohn's as well. I was taking greentea pills and wound up with a flare up. I didn't put 2+2 together until this post, so maybe they had somthing to do with it. I want to talk to my doctor about the Alli. It is FDA approved. I figured I would read the box and see what they say about digestive or bowel irritations. | |||

Starting weight/date: 226lbs 1/1/2008 Weight last weight in: 223.6lbs Weight this week: 220.4lbs This week has been a hard week. Over the weekend, I didn't do as well as I hoped. I ate the wrong foods, but at least I limited the portion of those foods. One good thing is that I have been exercising more this week. I still cannot get the motivation to go to the gym, but I have On-Demand which has tons of good exercise programs. Good Luck All |

Ser, I don't know. My doctor is not very forthcoming with information, as I am her first Crohn's patient. It all happened so fast, I didn't even realize what really happened or is happening in my body until this past summer. My gastro doctor uses the term Crohn's. She says it is a form of IBD. I am new to the information and it seems that they lump all of the conditions associated with the bowel as a form of IBD/IBS. I really do not know which is correct. I have a story that only you gals would appreciate. I woke up twice during the colonoscopy. Man was the doctor going to town. He is shoving it up there all excited, I remember as he was moving the darn camera he was saying "do you see that" as he kept shoving it up there. I was traumatized. I was screaming, the doctor was screaming, and the nurse was screaming "wait doctor, she's not out"...all I can say is OMG! I can laugh at it now, but I remember it clear as day....so much for the amnesia drug! LOL |

| I cannot find out how to respond directly to a message, so forgive the numerous posts. I am replying as I read them.I have never in my life used an avacado. I have not tasted one either. That is what I like about this website, I learn new veggies and how to make them. Can one of you tell me how to prepare the avacado. I mean do you have to skin it; are there parts you cannot eat; and lastly, how do you cook the things? When you blend it, is it raw or cooked? |

I totally understand your pain Jenn. Sorry I haven't posted as I had a flare up that required a few days in the ward (hospital ward that is : ). It is crazy how this disease has affected my life. Jenn I was diagnosed in 2006, four days before I had my surgery. Can you believe it. I am still trying to cope and it has been two years on Jan. 25th. That is why I started this post. Like you I gained weight because I was able to eat again. Add in the fact that I stopped smoking the day I had my surgery, I don't need to tell you how food was sooooo much more delicious than ever before. Everytime I would start to lose a few pounds, here comes the Crohn's again. I would get discouraged and stop trying to lose weight. Crohn's was the perfect excuse! However, thanks to the new people I met here, I have lost 6 pounds since January 1. Yay me! I have been trying to find a healthy balance between foods that don't hurt me and the food that is no good for me (as far as weight loss). I hope you all don't mind, but I am adding you all to my friends list. Berry |

Me too ser25! Raw green or red Peppers and onions hurt me something bad. I keep getting depressed about trying to lose weight because after about a week of eating "healthier" foods, I am struck with a serious attack. The pain gets me discouraged. I have been writing down what I eat and realized that I am not even close to the recommended daily intake of calories. They state that I should have at least 1350, but I am lucky if I break 900 calories a day. I think part of it may be my work, because I rarely have time to eat and the other part is the Crohn's. If you are in severe pain everytime you eat, you stop eating. I know I need more exercise. Maybe that is my solution to weight loss |

Great Post Dentalfloss! I never really looked at it that way, but you are so right! I am going to try that the next time I go to the store. I have already taken a stance with the kids/husband and told them I am not buying anymore unhealthy snacks. If they want it, they should go to the store and buy it themselves. I will only bring healthy food, snacks and drinks into the house! Way to go me! |

All I can say SixtyFive is Wow! Everything that is listed as a no-no are my favorite foods.....dairy....cheese.....ohhh sweet cheese...I will miss you! What I have to say is that this is really tough! I love (and I really do mean love) to cook and to eat. It is still hard for me to believe the severity of this condition. I didn't have anyone to talk about it with before. Even my doctor stated that she didn't know much about crohn's, because each patient is different. I really appreciate you taking the time out to get this informtion. I had reviewed WebMD and Mayo, but they told me symptoms and causes, which most of us with any form of IBS is already familiar. I am going to take the time right now to do some research. Talk with you soon.

Can I get some names of green tea. I took the green tea pills for a few days, but got scarred as most of these "pills" are not approved by the FDA. I would much rather try the tea! Has anyone tried that Alli? I am scarred to try it, though it sounds like it may work. It is expensive too. |

Thank you both for the posts! When I tell my doctor that only fatty foods work when I am sick, she looked at me like I was crazy! I am sad that you have IBD, but I am sooooo glad to have someone to share my thoughts, frustrations and anxiety! If you don't mind, I would like to add you both to my friends list so I can keep in touch.

Thanks for the recipe sixtyfive! I have been experimenting with soups as a part of my "healthy living" and was unsure of the calorie content. I just add tons of veggies, beans and barley along with .5 lb of lean beef, chicken or turkey and that is a meal. When adding up the colories, should I measure the calories in each ingredient? |

Hey Lena, I have Crohn's Disease, which is a form of IBS. I can tell you that if your nausea and lightheadedness was caused by this, you would certainly know it. I hardly ate because it made me nauseated, but I lost a significant amount of weight as well (60lbs over 2 months). With IBS, not only do you feel sick and lightheaded, but there is a tremendous amount of pain associated with eating and drinking. I can't say for sure it is not IBS or Crohn's, you should check with your doctor. You could have high blood pressure or something else that is causing this. One thing I know for sure is that taking in less than the recommended amount of calories WILL cause your body to display certain symptoms that are associated with undereating. Good Luck! |

Starting Weight on 1/7/2008: 226 Last weigh in: 226 Weight this week: 223.6 Goal Weight: 145lbs I have found that the Weight Watchers mini cake bites are delicious. They are small, but very satisfying. I love the carrot cake with only 90 calories per cake. Another sweet I have found that has no fat is marshmellows. I can have one 1/2 cup of them and it is only 70 calories. I am going to try the chewy granoloa bars...I need a chocolate fix as well and if they taste good and are good for you, I am in!
