Hmm? I am thinking cardio would be best as it would allow you to carry your elevated heart rate into the weight lifting phase. Thus, prolonging the cardio benefits. Thoughts?
Fitness Cardio vs. Weights for weight loss Feb 07 2008

Not a gal, but wanted to chime in because it is a good post and good replies.  For me I do cardio everyday (4 times a week) for 20-30 minutes. 2 times a week I do cardio plus about 10 full body weight lifting exercises. I think cardio is the key. Spookychick has the right idea, 10 minutes of cardio before weights will continue your elevated heart through the weight lifting phase which will be fantastic.  Best of luck. My 2 cents

I understand your concern.  First let me applaud you on your success, 205 down to 164-170 is incredible... kudos.  I am struggling with the same concern, am I eating too little?  If you eat 1800 cal, I understand you can then burn up to 600 cal of exercise over and above your moderate life style (for a women).  If you are burning more then 600 cal then I would imagine you need to eat more otherwise your body's metabolim will slow down fearing you are in starvation mode.

You sound quite discipline in your eating and exercise schedule.  I have decided not to count my calories anymore and instead eat when I am hungry but make wise choices on what I eat.  Your cardio workouts sound perfect.  I do somewhat the same but on 2 days a week I do only 20minutes of cardio folowed by 30 minutes of weight training.  In my weight training I try to cover all the upper body muscles as the running covers the lower half.  I do bench press, bicep curls, tricep, 2 shoulder exercises, an upper back exercise and then abs.

You already have an extremely healthy regime, so keep it up and good luck.

I think I understand, since I am a guy and do nothing all day but eat 1500 cal, I am good for loosing weight (1 pd after a week) but if I exercise and burn 400 cal then I am in danger and must eat at least 400 cal above my 1500.  Right?

I wish you the best of luck.  I need help understanding all this... RMR, BMR and sedentary rates.  On this site we have a "Eat Meter/with a Daily Goal" and "Burn Meter/ with Total Estimate".  These 2 meters take into account our metabolic rates, activity level and goals combined with caleries eaten and exercise completed over and above our normal activitty level.. correct?

When I was reading above I became confused with you wrote..."you can't let exercise knock your net calories below 1200"... what does that mean and how does it relate to our Eat and Burn Meters?

5'8", 152 lbs.  How do you tell if you have a slow or fast metabolism?  Keep in mind I am 44 and a guy so my body could be naturally in a hibernation mode, it is expecting to be laying on the couch watching football... I don't know.  I have been in this final phase of my weight and fitness program for some time now, so I really appreciate any thoughts.  Like everyone else, we benefit from other's experiences.  Thanks

I am not certain if this is just a "Woman's over 40 club" or not?  I fit half of that... 44, but I am a guy who is willing to lend support.  I found this saying yesterday and really liked it....

True strength is keeping everything together when everyone expects you to fall apart... Sooner or later you have to make a choice... look past all those discouraging faces and look at yourself and know that you have what it takes.  You will prove them wrong.

Like so many others I share your concern re plateau'g.  I run and weight train 4 times a week and average about 1800 cal a day.  Yet my weight has more or less remained within the 151-155 area.  Like yourself, this is a healthy weight but I would still like to see further losses.  I not sure the wait and see approach will work...  Hmm?

In addition to interval training you should strive for negative split training.  Meaning, the first half of your run should always be slower then the last half.  By consciously forcing yourself to go slow at the beginning you will see incredible improvements in the last half and in your overall times.  It takes a lot of effort to go slow at the beginning but your results will prove that it works.  So rather then just finishing a run, you will finish strong and feeling good.  Cheers.

Gee you (jem599) look fantastic, kudos.

I am never sure when using the tape... did I place it eactly here or there last time... did I tense this much... and so on.

You are absolutely right... just keep pushing forward.

Good for you, I applaud your dedication and I understand your frustration.  I have been stuck at the same weight for many months, while fallowing the same mix of cardio and weight training.  I came to CC in the hope that it could help me isolate and determine the best way ahead.  I do agree with the previous reply.  It would be nice if there was another way to determine success.  Throughout this site, we are all using "weight" as our benchmark for success.  Maybe there is another value or formula?

Best of luck
