Thanks for all the answers :) I was wondering...because my mother is on Weight Watcher's and they do not count vegetables...  But I'll keep on recording them on my food log.  Maybe I got just lazy...or hoped for a miracle food ;)

Thanks again

Fitness Preparing to start exercising- Q about when to eat? Feb 06 2009

Part of the answer is "it depends on your body".  I suggest to eat a little snack an hour before training, that contains proteins, and a little of sugar (good sugar i.e. as found in an apple, a banana, a pear).  I also suggest you stay away from fat, as eating food with lots of fat in it (like cheese, 3%milk, peanut butter) just before training will give you cramps.  If you are to eat 'fat food' (talking about good fat as found in items such as peanut butter and nuts), eat it an hour prior to training.

Carrots...as odd as it might sounds; if I eat more than 1/4 cup of carrots, I feel nauseous.  That and regular ice-cream, though frozen yogurt suits me well that I eat 1 cup every evening (hahaha).

Weight Loss Any healthy models here? Dec 15 2008

Need to precise, they not only train, but get to walk and move alot during one day, often sleeping for as few hours as two or three because of shows' schedules (tip : exercise).  Now, you can't be jealous of what you do not have...so the correct term would be envious ;).  But even so, I myself am envious of them, guilty of charge.  I wouldn't want their job at all, though...  and, even if victoria secrets' models are healty, we have to admit a lot of them aren't eating healty or living in an healty way.  Let's just say Victoria Secret's fashion models prove us that one can be a model without starving, which is a good start :
1. eat healty, stay away from sugar, and white bread
2. eat fibre, proteins, milk (brings proteins as well as nutrients and cuts hunger), vegetables
3. Exercise
4. Enjoy yourself, and remember that living healty is also enjoying the way you're living.

Out of curiosity...why should one eat their fruits before 1pm, and their vegetables after?  I tend to do the opposite (snack in the morning on vegetables, and eat fruits on my way home from university/work...).  How does it affect the weight loss/health?

Motivation Students: what do you do around finals? Jun 23 2008

I usually watch what I eat, but drop exercising around finals. I try to exercise more in-between mid-semester and finals. Though I also study while runing on the treadmill (print my notes in Times 15, so I can read while exercising -- and I do more recall than actual learning, but heh, I'm still studying while exercising).

I also cut sugar, and eat more veggies :). Go up the stairs instead of taking any elevator, walk home instead of taking the bus... :) hope it helps!

This happens to me as well...I mean, the stomach ache, plus I feel not very good for a couple of days...  And I used to eat lots of sugar before, but got really sick one year ago and it messed up with my whole body.

Thing is, my body can't digest refined sugar anymore.  Odd to say, but that's what I've been told.  So..yeah, I guess at some point, it can be normal not to be able to eat sugar without getting sick.

Weight Loss 1300 + exercise = no loss? Jun 12 2008

Hello tigerleaf! : )

I'm almost in the same situation...started at 162 lbs, aiming for 130...5'8''; 22 years old...aaaaand...stuck on a plateau as well.  Yep :(  we could almost be weight loss twins/buddies, haha.

But I believe you could lose more weight by including cardio, or intense workout sessions (no need to make it long) to your routine, as the body gets used to its daily exercising routine pretty quickly.  Doing the same movements over, and over again...just as well as the same type of exercise every day, makes your body "know" and "expect" the loss...and it's pretty good at finding tricks to cover for it, believe me.

Since it cannot know what you will eat tomorrow, or the day after, it reacts according to what you have eaten, and burnt, the past few days.  The more you fall into a routine, the more it will know what to expect, and the easier it will be for your body to stay at the same weight by storing just the right amount of energy to cover for the exercising.

Just as eating less carbs might help a little - well, it did for me. All in all, the key word is : change.  You need to surprise your body -- with new type of food, or new type of exercising, so it cannot expect the loss, nor the intake.

Hope it helps!

You might want take your measurements as well...maybe you put on some muscles, and did lose fat, by training with "weights".  Muscles weight more than fat tissues, but burn more calories.  So you could have lost 5lbs of fat weight, and put on 5lbs of muscles... : )

Hmmm...peanut butter & low-fat/low-cal mayo sandwhich...  Got the recipe from my dad : )  And I swear it's delicious though it sounds gross! ;)

And, dijon mustard-molasses sandwhiches, you can put what you want in it...but I prefer it with porc or turkey.

And, came up with a "jujube/lean turkey/Camembert sandwich" recipe during highschool...such a long time ago : (

I'll have to try the oatmeal thing...Innocent

Hey there...

I'm 5'8'', got down to 136lbs last December, and yes, my thights still touched...  Gained about 10lbs since then (trying to lose them :( ) and started taking my bike to go to work...

Well I'm now 5'8'', 145lbs...trying to lose 10lbs :'( but...my thights do not touch anymore, or barely.  And I believe it is doing three hours of bike per day, up to five times a week, that got me there (I also think my 145lbs is due to, yes, fat, but also leg muscles :s)...(let's hope ^^ because with three hours of bike per day, I can't think I did NOT gain any muscle on the way :s...hahaha)

Well, hope it will help...

Health & Support Could I be bulimic? Feb 15 2008

No matter when you do it, or why you do it, if you are asking yourself these questions clearly means to me that this purging bothers you.  THe fact that it bothers you is, no matter what one might say, the best reason one could have to speak to a doctor or a psychologist.

But, no matter, I'd suggest you to tell it to your psychologist, first.  I do not know if it falls in the '' bulimic '' DSM criterias, but it still worries me a lot that you punish yourself by purging your food.  Looks to me like you have little control over your behavior regarding such matters, which is also a good reason to tell a professionnal.

I hope it helps!  Good luck!

My all time favorite (can eat up to 200g in one day when I buy some -- which is why I do not buy it every week haha!), is a "made in Quebec" cheese called St-Paulin, Light version.

It's 40cal per 30g, and tastes sooooo good (even more since it is a low-cal low fat cheese!).  I also like to buy the St-Damase sometimes (60 cals for 30g), and, of course, low-fat feta cheese.

Haven't found low-fat/low-cal goat cheese yet, awww :(

I used to be on WW, and it worked for a time.  But, as the previous post stated, it is so easy to abuse...  I came up to a point where I didn't lose weight anymore -- this is why I switched to CC.  It's free, and roughly comes to the same, but made me lose these extra 30lbs I needed to lose.

I'm now 5'8'', 136-138 lbs :p  But WW helped at first.  :)

Have you tried to keep healthy food (vegetables, lean crakers, fruits, etc) in your room, to binge on?  I used to have a night-eating problem...and I solved it by allowing myself to eat a little snack before bed time.  Since it is allowed, I do not feel the urge to eat fat/sugary food, and I plan it in my daily cal intake.

Take it one step at a time :)  But first, maybe you should simply control the kind of food you binge on, and allow yourself to eat cookies/marshmallows/peanut butter only once every week.  Because, removing them totally from your diet will increase the binges!  The best thing to do is to include them in your calorie counting.  Do more exercise to cover for it...

I can't resist frozen yogurt....I can eat the whole pint in two days, haha!  But at least I know myself, and log it in my food log...as well as exercise a little more on the days I buy frozen yogurt.

I think I've resisted temptation pretty well (except for last night....everybody brought food (mostly desserts) and I just COULDN'T resist that piece of banana/dark chocolate bread (and a piece of chocolate).  But I ate vegetables all night long and didn't touch my p&b w/ banana toast I had brought for my lunch/breakfast (really night shifts are a pain when it comes to eating...never know how to count my calories...BUT! it's my last night tonight :))  ahhhh...call centers :/).

I'm at 139.0 lbs!! I've lost 2lbs during christmas time, haha.  But I'm pretty sure that is because I got all mixed up in my cal counting (with my nigh shifts)and ended up eating less than I thought...  I still hope it won't come back on my hips!

Merry Christmas everyone!!!

Your body naturally burns 1,200 calories, then it depends of your stats.  Put your stats in CC and it will tell you how much calories your body is burning doing nothing.

You do not have to eat only fruits and veggies :))  Make sur eyour body does not go into starvation mode (eating less than 1,200, or having a 1000cal + deficit).  I'm 22 and 5'8'', 140lbs, I do 500 cals of exercising per day, and get to eat up to 1,500 to 1,600 calories per day.  (which leaves me with a 600 cal deficit).  And I still lose weight ;) I lose more weight than when I ate 1,300 calories for the same amount burnt (average of 2,200 cals per day).

Else than my morning exercising, I barely move (studies + working in a callcenter...^^;;;).  Please eat more than an apple and a yogurt!  You need AT LEAST 1,200 cals!!

I'm in need of some help here....here are my stats:
58% carbs

Actually, how do I lower my carbs? :s that has made me wonder out of the blues for days now... :(

Don't buy food only because it is low fat...buy food  because you like it.  Try to find healthy recipes that will make you -want- to eat food at home instead of going out of the house and get junk food.

You can have a nice meal with "normal" ingredients.  Quality over quantity sometimes is a better way to eat.

Hey guys :)) Just wanted to say thanks for all the answers...  It helped get over it.  I learnt my lesson, and won't ask about my mom's cooking haha(but will instead sneak in the recipe cupboard and read the recipes ;-)).

Oh well, I'm moving out of the house soon, though I don't know if moving in with my BF will really be an healthy alternative XD he's a poutine/pizza/cheese chips lover...  And no matter how much I cook, and how many cooking classes I can take, and how many nice dishes I can bake...he still prefers eating hot dogs!  Guess there are some things we can't change in a guy ;))

Yes  you can maintain and eat chocolate and cakes, but you have to follow some steps :
- little portions
- christmas is more about family than food...that says...
- exercice, move, burn calories whatever the way to cover for it
- eat light and low-cal food (vegetables, low-fat cheese, chickpeas, hummus)
- drink lots of water!
- ask yourself if you'll REALLY feel any different by eating one or two bites worth 70-100 cals vs the whole chocolate-covered piece of cake worth 800 cals

Log it in your food log.  Even if it shows you're eating more than burning, this will make you realize it, as well as help your willpower to overcome the '' devilish temptation ''....  Now there is no reason to resist to intelligent temptation.
Foods green tea to go for the bottled water: good or bad?? Dec 17 2007

I would suggest you to buy tea from a tea shop :)  It contains less cafeine, and is probably better (healthier) than the Liptons flavored green.. (and it tastes way better :))

Though tea in itself is already healthy, great, and just oh so yummy :))

Yes week 3, I believe : )
Awww, I'm up one lb :( and weight 141lbs this morning... Though I've been exercising and watching my cals...

Maybe...just maybe...that peanut butter toast just before going to bed didn't help!! XD  Even if it DID fit in my cal intake... But exams make me eat so much more :/

Anyone know if it is better to have let's say 1,200 at least per day, or 1,200 cals net?  (Maybe this is why I gained weight...I'm not eating 1,200 cals net? But rather 1,300 cals with a 700 cals deficit :s?)

But then I didn't lose any weight for a week.  Was it all the salt and MSG in the Chinese food?

Might be water retention : ) chinese food contains lots of salt.  Taaasty but naaaasty (for the weight ^.^ AND sodium intake).

If any of you find an answer to that thread I swear to god to worship you!  I've been going to that chinese restaurant ,with a friend, for over 8 years now, and it is sad I don't go anymore because anything they serve is fried, cooked in oil, or comes with fat sauces! :/

Maybe I should try the fish... :(
