That's not entirely true Mooni. If you have any kind of immunity to US law (say you're an ambassador or some kind of foreign national) then this is conferred to your family so any kids you have on us territory does not confer citizenship.

Personally I believe that the Congress does need to address this issue, because it causes problems for all parties involved and encourages individuals to take on very dangerous risks.

Well tbf when you're a free thinking non-conformist you hardly have the time to be classy... I mean you've first got to figure out what all the other non-conformist free thinkers think, so that you are sure that you are thinking correctly and then you have to go and proselytize educate the non-believing believers.

And lets be honest, there's only so many hours before Twilight comes on...

The Lounge splitting rent- what's fair? Nov 16 2009

Guy here, this is how my engineering buddies and I handled this without conflict.

1) Get square footage of each room (bedrooms, bathroom(s), kitchen and common areas).

2) Divide total rent by total square footage to calculate rental cost per square foot.

3) Assign value to each room according to square footage.

4) Each person pays according to their percent ownership:

 a) Bathroom 1 (attached to master) 100% to bro(1)

 b) Bathroom 2 (dettached in hallway) 20% to bro(1), 40% to bro(2), 40% bro(3)

 c) Common Area and Kitchen 33% to each.

 d) Bedroom 1 (master)100% to bro(1)

 e) Bedroom 2 100% to bro(2)

  f) Bedroom 3 100% to bro(3)

Uh, do no politicians pander to the poor and working classes where you live? Because they do here - those people actually vote, here.

In California? No, at least not beyond "saying" what is necessary to get elected. Of course, there's no follow through.

If you don't represent a major industry (energy in our case) or a major union, you get nothing. If you fall under the protection of either of those, you get what they leave you.

If you're a small business or someone that works for one (+90% of the population) you get squeezed or move. Of course moving doesn't really solve the problem, because at best you end up in the same scenario, with the only real difference being the degree to which you are being squeezed.

Bologna.

The masses have power, in so far as they have the capacity (and desire) to riot out of control.

Their power is influence. Their method is fear.

Beyond that they have nothing, so without fear of meaningful reprisal or likelihood of being caught, the worlds leaders act in their own self-interest first.

The degree to which you have the capacity to control (something valuable) and/or influence (someone with control in an area you do not) affects how well any system treats you.

There is no productive system that is kind to people with little control or influence.

Is the op proof that raw food diets make people crazy, or that only crazy people do the raw food diet?

Personally I suspect the latter, because otherwise why would a sane person start a raw food diet? ;)

(I would say "chicken or egg" but that analogy is flawed now that we know about evolution.)

Good point. What came first the seed or the fruit?

Interestingly enough and given all evidence to the contrary, many Buffalo fans would vehemently disagree with the statement that the Bills suck.

When did marriage become something other than an exclusive committment?  Again...  why bother?!?!?

Marriage in the civil sense is a contract about exclusivity to the parties involved for any number of reasons.

Marriage in the religious sense varies in its meaning, but originally the true purpose was about consolidation of power. It is only recently that it has it become about love or the perception thereof.

I sincerely doubt that people in successful polyamorous relationships are immature, quite the opposite really considering the additional interpersonal complexity involved in such a relationship.

I have had many dogs and occasionally cats. I cried when all of them died, even my wife's deranged by distemper terrier that I nicknamed "El Diablo" and I hardly knew it well.

However, if I were hungry and had no better options I'd eat them too, personality and all.

If that's your thing, that's cool, but for me vegan isn't a better option.

I have asked myself this question before. While I still have no clear answer, I do think that it is realistic to expect honesty and honor. If that promise is made between people it should be kept.

I agree. I think the problem is when people don't realistically evaluate themselves make a promise they can't or don't really want to keep.

Some people do.

and then take the easy way out

Dunno that there's anything easy about taking that risk, it really depends on the nature of the infidelity, does it not? I mean on one side there could be the fear of what happens if one takes a step toward 'freedom' on the other, the fear of what happens if one does not.

I would wager that the great majority of cheaters don't think about the repercussions at all. By easy way out, I mean they forgo thinking (or caring) about their actions and associated consequences until they're likely to be found out. And at that point, the majority are likely only concerned with the consequences to themselves, and less so their spouse or children.

By taking the easy way out, I mean they shirk their responsibility to honor their commitments and do what provides immediate gratification.

Added evolutionary biologist David Barash, "It's within the realm of human potential, but it's not easy."

Combine that with the nature of most people to take the easy way out and...

Depends on the source of your meat and how much you eat.

At least in CA, there are plenty of options for finding meat that isn't from abused animals, though I don't remember the site that links to all the co-ops, buying groups, agrishares, etc.

think back to when you were 16: you knew it all and nobody could tell you otherwise

think back to when you were 18: you realize how little you knew at 16, now that you've got it all figured out

think back to 21: it's funny how green you were back when you just started college

are you seeing a trend yet?

I figure it probably means we go through life mostly clueless until we get to a point where we aren't, but by then it no longer matters :)
