Vegetarian ok, i am a vegan now...what happens to my old leather purses, shoes,... Jun 25 2008

Using leather isn't really "vegan" but...isn't it better to use something relatively natural than something like a "synthetic" item that would take hundreds of years to decompose and full of chemicals...just throwing that out there...

I'm not sure, probably would get pretty dry though..I guess you don't really have to worry to much about it though since, it doesn't contain any eggs or anything.

Thanks for all your advice, tips and pointers...and thanks for steering me in the right way and opening my eyes.

Vegetarian Just watched 'Meet Your Meat'... Feb 21 2008

I just finished watching "Meet your Meat" as well.  I've never really eaten beef or pork but, as I have mentioned before, I do love my poultry (it was always organic, free-range).  I love pigs with a passion and when I saw the way they were treated and when I heard their squeels of pain I did start crying.  It's horrendous. It truly is.  I really am considering going straight vegan.  And I love how when you tell people that they say "You'll never be able to do it, do you know what your getting into"  I love it because it always seems to come from the morbidly obeese who tend not to care about their health at all.

Thanks for all of your advice...

Im still pondering though about kicking the fowl...it is my ulitmate weekness...it really is.  I know its no excuse but at least I only eat free-range organic.

And as for beans, I have a really, really hard time eating them.  But like jb723 said, it takes abit of time to change our nutritional choices.

Fitness At-Home Exercisers: What Does Your Gym Look Like? Feb 15 2008

I am an outdoors kind of man but, I do live in Canada and Ontario being one of the more snowy provinces to boot.  All my cardio is either done outdoors or away from home (aka "The Community Gym").  I have a very large room in my basement that used to house my dogs but when they passed on to another life I was able to convert this room into my gym.  I have free weights (barbell, dumbells and various sizes of weights ranging from 2-50 lbs) I also have the bench to go with it.  I have a chin up bar and a bowflex elite (which was given to me and hasn't really been used) and a trainer for my bike. In a section of my gym I have a yoga mat and a peaceful area set-up for meditation.  Oh yeah, I also have a stereo in their for my Muzzak.

Foods Need A Good High-Protein Snack Feb 04 2008

If you want something easy to make yet, full of protein, have Whey Protein...it's cheaper and a lot less calories, and fat than meat.  It's a powder that you can mix with water or make it into a shake...you'll get plenty of protein their.

Fitness too much water? Feb 01 2008

Yeah, if this was true I'd have diabetes and I'd be dead a long time ago.  I drink water daily like its going out of style, hell I drink 2 litres before breakfast...other than constant peeing...it sure makes me feel good to...it also tightens the skin and flushes out your fat cells.  I'd say in a day...(with a workout) Id probably consume 5 ltrs of water at a minimum.

And Im going to follow this up with a question...I can't drink water when I work out because it just sits in my stomach and I feel like junk and cant perform...how unhealthy is this for me...I drink tonnes when Im done working out...I just cant do it during.

Ha, I one time asked a girlfriend that, she told me to go to sleep and don't be stupid.....than about 5 minutes later she rolled over and told me, "I wish you didn't try to please everyone" and then she said " The world doesn't revolve solely around you Scott Maxted" harsh eh?, never really got what she meant.

Anyways physical?  I wish the skin on my damn stomach would tighten...

Mental? Im not going to give in to my above statement, so Im going to say....I wish I could have more of a backbone and not be so appologetic and feel that everything is my fault all the time.

Young Calorie Counters ah! im always hungry! Jan 31 2008

If you are not working on building muscle and trying to loose weight, this can be very difficult.  When I was at that stage I would always make oatmeal, but add more water than needed just to make it go farther, it always seemed to work as a filler, Id also got to the grocery store and just check around to see what I could use as a filler...I like to snack on pickles (I think their like 5 cals each) and the pickled vegetable mix (around the same as well).

Their is also a trick, I use it once and a while, to curb cravings...pinch the skin/cartilage where your ear and cheeckbone meet for 5 seconds, let go for 5 seconds, pinch for 5 seconds let go for 5 seconds...do this for a minute...supposidly this is an accupuncture point for hunger.

Young Calorie Counters 6 meals a day? Jan 31 2008

The only thing Im going to disagree with what katyjoy said is, I like to eat my highest calorie meal for breakfast (i like to, i dont always) so that my body has all day to burn it up.  I also like to have a glass of water upon rising(before anything enters my stomach) it helps jump start your metabolism, as well as the digestion process.

Fitness Best Workout Songs? Jan 30 2008

Their are some tunes I just can't get off of my ipod for when I work out.

I like Mika..I really do, its hard to admit it, but pretty much all his songs are upbeat and have a good beat. I also like the arcade fire, and the latest cd by "The New Pornographers" (i know, not the greatest name...) its called Challengers.  Starlight by muse is also pretty damn fantastic...

Young Calorie Counters Good stuff to eat for dinner. Jan 30 2008

You make it sound like eating healthy is hard, it really isn't.  Just use some knowledge that you can adapt from others from this site, and even if your at school, it really isnt an excuse to prepare something the night before.  I assume you eat breakfast at home, then at around 10 ish eat a piece of fruit and a protein shake, than at lunch time, eat a wrap (make it at home), just grab a low carb, low cal whole weat tortilla, some fat free chicken breast, stuff some lettuce and veg's in it and put on some mustard (which is cal free) or some salsa and have a bottle of water...really not that hard..for a mid afternoon snack half a handful of almonds, have supper and then some fat free cottage cheese before bed.  Try to balance out all 6 meals (nutrition wise) just so you dont spike your blood sugar.

If you need help trying to get your menu together, I'll be more than willing to lend a hand, as Im sure others on this site would be as well.

As for excercise, it only benefits you to do it.  It speeds up your metabolism, its good for your body (i shouldn't even need to explain), and on. and on. and on.

If your loosing weight by starving yourself your body is going to feed off of muscle...like dm84, and like what happened to me, you become super weak...its not worth it...eat right, do weights/excercise.

Fitness Calling all bikers! Jan 30 2008
14:47 (UTC)

I too am an avid cyclist, and by avid I mean I love biking so much I do it in the winter as well.

I completely agree with "bikeshoes" if you plan on being serious, heck, even semi-serious, invest in the best bike possible.

I'm not going to reiterate what he said, but invest in the best. Cheap bikes (from the big box stores, sporting stores etc) are junk, their frames and components are horrendous.  Welds always break, and they are just not fun to ride.  Also they contain cheap steel that in 8-10 years emit amounts of radiation (anyone wants clarification on that...I will explain)

Anyways just make sure to go to a bike shop, they'll help you pick the right size bike, they'll have tonnes of selection, and you may just be able to haggle a deal out of them..most of them will give you a percentage off or a helmet or something.

Anyways Best of Luck.

I'm going with AngelEyes137 and esthermoore on this one...

I'm no nutritionist...but I don't do pills (other than fish oil, organic and from a naturalpath)...I know their just vitamins..but man, their so overprocessed and un-natural, their really is (in my eyes) no benefit to them.  Eat the food, to get the vitamins... not the "lab made" equivalant.

And yes, you do need to eat more...if your about calorie cutting then, when you eat a salad go with a low cal, non-fat dressing, not a creamy one.  Cut out the extra calories/fat with eliminating the cheese and crutons.

Eat six times a day...I shouldn't preach what I don't always practice but, do it!

Here's a sample of what I eat/do:

Breakfast (7 am) -Glass of water, protein shake..then hit the gym

Come back from the gym have some hot oatmeal, fruit, water and some form of protein (maybe a small shake with skim milk)

lunch time consists of a portion of chicken or fish with a salad, some fruit and water

mid afternoon snack consists of almonds, water, and some cottage cheese (fat free, and mandarins)

supper is usually about the same as lunch.

And a snack of again a protein shake.

I drink lots of water, and I do take fish oil pills (from a naturalpath)

Now my diet is more muscle growth oriented but is not super high in calories, and i felt fantastic every day.

Im a bit of a hypocrit because this is how I used to eat, and after some stupid crap going on in my life, im back at it and feel fantastic again.

I appreciate all the advice/info that you have sent me...and I guess I should have phrased "going back to the bottle" better...alcoholism is not what I meant....i mean back in may, June, and July....I didnt drink (socially...at all, which I used to do all the time) just now I have started to drink socially again, but I have slowed down/ almost stopped in the last week so hopefully things are starting to turn around..
