Kelly I am SO glad to hear you are USING your treadmill. For everyone that doesn't know, Kelly is a friend of mine off of the thread. I sacraficed my body to help her put that thing together! Maybe if you're too tired to get in a solid 30 minutes everyday after work you could try to workout early in the morning. I KNOW you are NOT an early bird like me but I bet it would jump start your metabolism to do that.

Dang, way to work together, girls!

Awesome job Jelly on the water - I hear that as your body gets used to drinking that much water you won't have to run to the john so often - it takes a few weeks.

Kelly - totally weird! Well, we'll just both have to succeed then since we have almost identical stats and the same goals - lol! Don't tell me you're a tall girl too (I'm 6'0"), bc that would be uber-strange.

Keep it up chicas! (and Claudius - welcome, as long as you don't mind me occasionally slipping up and calling you a girl along with everyone else :D I'll do my best to remember - maybe you should upload some over-the-top manly testosterone-laden user image lol!)

I apologize in advance for the "relaxed" nature of this website. If you have read anything from T-nation you already know. It IS however a great article about keeping a waist as small as possible. ;-)

Dayum! That is one of the BEST articles I've ever read. Awesome! Thanks for sharing.

Sorry, I've been away with work for two weeks or I would have joined right away.

I'm Indi, I still have 121 pounds to loose, and I am SO with you all! It's great to see others who have the same goals and journey to walk - It's hard if you only hear about ladies who have to lose 10 or 20...

I'm 29, and I would LOVE LOVE LOVE to make a beautiful (read: healthy) transformation before my bday next March! Pisces rules!

Is it still ok to join?

I used to be 117lbs at 5'7" and I looked HORRENDOUS (with touching thighs by the way). Because I'm thinking about it, here's a MS Paint rendition of me during that time.

ENJOY.

See, now movies I can get behind. Movies are very worthwhile, and you don't get sucked in by commercials and 300 channels.

Well, good responses everyone!!

Yes, I agree with the responses that B5 season 1 is PAINFUL. But I blame that on Jeffrey Sinclair - I HATE that character! The rest of it is wunderbar!!

I only watched the first season of DS9, and none of Voyager or Enterprise. But I was in love with Dr. Bashir for some reason.

Thanks!

satupled - I think this thread's pretty free-form, we post our stats each week (or however often) and support when each other needs it. :) Welcome!

That's a good question stephtobea9. I know I always considered myself overweight, but since I'm so tall, I always weighed more than others. I was 165 and 6' tall and thought I was huuuuge, and now I'd give anything to be there (that was in high school).

I really let myself go in college, since I wasn't active in karate or kickboxing anymore, and it was easy to do - since I already felt like I was huge, it didn't necessarily feel any different as I gradually BECAME huge. I topped out at 315 pounds, through terrible eating and no activity. Lots of TV. I think TV is awful, it sucks you in and holds you captive. I think I'll start another post about that, actually, since I have a theory on that...

I went to Japan for a year through college, and lost 115 pounds just through walking and not having the money to eat. I felt GREAT!!! But since I hadn't CHOSEN to make any real lifestyle changes, and was just forced through my circumstances, when I came back to America I didn't change anything and my weight crept right back up to 300 pounds. TALK about Yo-YO! EEK!

Now, I'm trying to consciously replicate Japan for myself. I walk several times a day, a mile or two to start, and am watching what I'm eating thanks to this site. So, I don't know if that answers your questions or not, but that's my story. :)

Hey everybody, just checking in. I'm down 8 lbs since (re)starting this journey two weeks ago, and I hate to know it's going to slow. I'm so impatient! It's ok though, I would love to average 2 lbs per week - that would be amazing!

I love reading about everyone else's journeys, especially since many of you are so much further along than I am. Thank you for sharing.

Wow- this is such a great topic! This stuff is SO motivating! One question, though- what's "chub rub?"

Things that I want to do after I lose weight:

1. Have my pick of wedding dresses without worrying about hiding my fat.

2. Not feeling like crap when I see old photos of me from when I was thin.

3. Not feeling jealous of thin celebrities.

4. Feeling confident naked... And not wanting to hide under the covers when I have sex... Being comfortable "on top."

5. Feeling comfortable in my clothes- not restricted.

6. Not hating every photo of me because of my double chin and fat arms.

7. Being able to fit into all my beautiful dresses from college.

Hepburn - "Chub rub" is the chafing that happens between rolls. :( It's very unpleasant!

Also, to your #4, I totally agree - I have that as code on my want list, it's listed as "Cowgirl up!" lol

Weight Loss How do you exercise in public? Apr 26 2008

I just don't care what anyone else thinks about how overweight I am, AS LONG AS I'm doing something to fix it.

I was walking around the neighborhood the other day, which I do twice a day, and I noticed a yuppie couple in an SUV driving through. They were POINTING and LAUGHING at me. Seriously!? Are we in grade school!? I think not.

Anyway, it didn't bother me, except that it solidified them as arseholes and motivated me even more to go on out of spite. And jiggle a bit more past them. Whatever.

I used to be really bent out of shape and cry all the time about how fat I was. I'm still REALLY overweight, don't get me wrong, but there is power in changing your life for the better, and no one can take that away from you. So jiggle a little extra in their direction and laugh. With the couple, I just thought of a year from now when the same couple drives by, the husband might point at me, but the wife would slap him if he did. Because I will be dropdead gorgeous. :)

Weight Loss Ugh! Help me! I am having terrible cravings!! Apr 25 2008
02:06 (UTC)

Well, you have two options:

1. Do it. Get a friend (or two) to go with you and split the meal you're craving, accepting that your Calorie Count lifestyle is a lifestyle and not a diet, and you don't think you can go the rest of your life without having things you enjoy occasionally.

2. Don't do it. The danger here is that a craving feeds other cravings unless it's fed. Then you start to feel deprived, and resentful. That way lies madness.

So, obviously, I would suggest number 1. Split the meal, or ask for a smaller serving, or just fit an extra workout in to help offset!

I'm not sure if i'm allowed to say this, but i'm gonna anyway cuz i'm a rebel.

The WORST habit I had and thought I would NEVER get rid of was my meth addiction. I've been clean for 2 1/2 yrs. I LOVE LOVE LOVE Life now! I just wish I would have done it a long time ago. Oh well better late than never eh?

Good for you angelfree - that's really awesome. :D I for one am glad you posted it!

To all of you who say you've quit smoking - thanks for sharing! It gives me hope, as that's something I know I'm going to need to do, but haven't quite been able to yet. I've promised myself that by my 30th birthday (next March) I will also join the "non-smoker" league.

For me, my give-ups have been:

Coca-Cola - I am SUCH an addict, to Coke and RC. I've only had two in the last two weeks, and those have been cans. I used to drink at LEAST 60 oz of soda a day. The leaded variety. I've grown to really dig water, which I never thought possible.

Pizza Rolls - these little bad boys are hard to stop eating if you've had one. So I don't have one.

Fast Food - I've only had a Wendy's SW Taco Salad without the chili, so I think I'm doing quite well here too. I used to be the "2 dbl cheeseburgers, large fries, vat of soda, and perhaps some dessert." Now I'm like... wtf what I thinking!??

Calorie Count is about healthy weight loss, not fad diets. The diet you describe is low cal, perhaps too low cal, and has a great deal of water in it. Similarly fantastic results can be obtained by following the Calorie Count lifestyle and it won't cause your body to potentially be missing vital nutrients.

Yeah, this happens to me if I even miss a day! I'm grouchy, and irritable, and I feel the need to snack all day long.

I would imagine it has something to do with the endorphins released in your body by exercise, but I'm no scientist. One of the other CCers may have a better explanation, but anecdotally, I'm with you!

Let's play nice in the sandbox. :) Smokers are people too!

Weight Loss is a 1000 calorie deficit ok? Apr 24 2008
19:44 (UTC)
7

Yes, from what I understand, AS LONG AS your daily calories don't go beneath 1200, a 1000-cal deficit is ok. I think it depends on how much you weigh though - I weigh 293, and make sure to perform some level of exercise a day, so a 1000 cal deficit for me is easy. It means eating about 1700/day.

If you're so small that 1000 cal would put you under 1200 daily, it is NOT healthy.

On the plus side it sounds like the caloric impact was less than you thought it would be, so that's good!

Overall, I think it's good that you went, even if you had gone over. We have to be able to succeed even with life getting in the way sometimes, and it's a longterm battle.

But if you're really worried about it, go dancing tonight!

If all of those wonderful suggestions don't work for you, try accepting that that's how your eating/hunger cycle works, and plan for it. Make sure you have enough calories set aside so you are able to have something after dinner before you go to bed.

I had the same problem - but hunneebee's right on, walking helps a lot.
