| Fitness | Runners, I got a sore arch! | Mar 06 2009 20:13 (UTC) |

I had the same small pain a few weeks ago and it's only gotten worse. Some mild pain after a longer run transformed into some pain after sitting for a while then standing and sometimes first thing in the morning. It was never too bad but then today after a longer run I'm in more pain and I'm realizing it might be plantar fasciitis. I think I have worn my shoes down too much (they're over a year old) and may arch supports. Also, focusing on stretching the calves is suggested to help.

I did day 5 of level 1 this morning and can tell I'm getting stonger because it is easier (just like she said it would be!). After a little bit of a plateau and losing only .5 lb or so a week, last week I dropped 2.2 pounds! This reminds me of a year ago when I dropped 2 lbs a week consistently. SW: 202.6 CW: 200.4 (I can taste, see, and smell the 100's, baby!) GW (at the end of the 30 ds - really my six week timeline): 190-195 Keep it up everyone! |

Hello! I did my second day of workout 1 this morning. I've been pretty active for a while, but I'm hoping this circuit training style workout (which I love!) will help me get over the 100 pound hump I'm stuck on. I've also made a major switch and started working out in the mornings before work instead of at night in hopes that my body will adjust by losing some pounds.
So for this week it's: Monday: 30 Day Shred Tuesday: running (3 miles) Wed: 30 day shred Thursday: running (4 miles) Friday: 30 day shred Saturday: Rest (still get 10,000 steps in) Sunday:? Depends on how I feel but hopefully the video |

| Recipes | New ways to dress up green beans | Feb 06 2009 16:44 (UTC) |

For some spicy chinese style green beans: Cook green beans as normal - if frozen you can make them in the microwave 3 parts soy sauce .5-1 part sriracha hot chili sauce (depending on how spicy you like it) 1 part sugar (or splenda) 1 part vinegar (rice wine, white, even apple cider) .5 part sesame oil dash of garlic powder Saute the green beans with this sauce blend and you'll never go back to plain green beans.

I'm in this situation, too! My husband and I have been planning on trying beginning this spring, so in the fall of 2007 I decided to take action. I started at 298 and am now at 203 and I'm hoping to be around 180 before we start trying. It's the best motivation possible and it will be worth it. Good luck to everyone! |

Great job! I know the feeling! I finished my second 5K yesterday and I completed couch to 5K in November. It feels great to not walk and keep going - even if it's slow going. Now you have to sign up for another and beat your time! Keep going! |

Yay! I have an older set I ordered from amazon and without the tubes or gloves it was $8. I do the cardio party mix 1 (45 minutes), the shorter cardio (20 mins), and the weight workout with my own hand weights (40 mins) fairly regularly when I'm not running. They're fun and will definitely make you sweat. |

Mr. Krispers are amazing! I like the salt & pepper ones with some salsa or a wholly guacamole 100 calorie pack. The BBQ ones are good on their own. Try some Mr. Krispers with some laughing cow - it's so good. It's a giant serving for only 120 cals and the sodium is not as bad as regular chips. Try them! |

I'm in week 5 and I am so excited about running that I can't imagine stopping at this point. My best advice is to sign up for a 5K pretty soon so you have a goal date. Mine is November 9th and it feels good to have a date to get ready for. Give yourself enough time to repeat weeks or a few days here and there and get going! Also, go to http://www.ullreys.com/robert/Podcasts/page6/ page6.html to download podcasts for the runs. It makes them go by faster and it's great to have the motivation in your ear. Good luck! |

| Weight Loss | How much weight had you lost when people started noticing? | Sep 15 2008 19:13 (UTC) |

I've lost a total of 75 and the comments have really started to come. They come in waves it seems. I got a lot after losing 25, then at about 60. I've also realized that when I lose about 15/20 pounds and drop a size, I get new clothes that actually fit so I'm sure people notice a lot more when they can actually see my body! It really never gets old, but you have to have a general response when people ask how you did it! People can be so nosy and inadvertently inappropriate. |

| Weight Loss | Will I Have Loose Skin After Losing 60 Pounds ? | Aug 18 2008 15:16 (UTC) |
11 |
So far, this is not an issue for me. I'm 25, and started last September at 298. I've been overweight for a long time, but probably over 250 for 2-3 years. I've lost 70 pounds and I don't have any issues with loose skin yet. For the last 5 months I've been alternating cardio with a weight workout and I believe that is helping. If I do have any loose skin, I'll expect it to be on my upper arms and middle area. Loose skin beats an extra 120 pounds, in my opinion! |

I'm still around too. I've been a little stuck during the past couple of weeks and I've been trying different plateau breaking techniques, but I think I just need to keep working hard and wait it out.
My goal is to be 100 pounds lighter by Christmas of this year. I'm starting the Couch 2 5K program next month so that'll be a nice change. For now, it's Turbo Jam, Turbo Sculpt, Pilates, and whatever else I can think of to get my heart rate up.

I love original Fiber One and think it's interesting that the other flavors - honey clusters, for example - is packaged like regular cereal. My husband thinks the original comes in two bags because it's so gross that you'll inevitably want to throw your own bag away and you still have an unopened bag to give to someone you want to torture.

I'm down to 238, so I've officially lost 60 (60.4!) pounds! Since this is a major goal and now I'm halfway done, I bought some new workout clothes and I love them. I also went to Old Navy and bought some new jeans - size 18!!!! Dee and Kekri- keep on keepin' on and the scale will show a loss. But I can't believe that deegirl lost so many inches -way to go! I think having an activity target is a good thing janal. I'll aim for 7 hours this week, from Sunday to Sunday. So far I'm at 45 minutes, crap. I'll catch up! Keep us posted on your progress.

| Weight Loss | STALLED: The Tragic Truth About Plateaus | Jun 06 2008 15:36 (UTC) |
26 |
I can totally sympathize with you on this. I'm fairly confident that I just broke a plateau. I started at 298 last September and was stalled at 241-243 for at least 4 weeks. I still have a good 60 pounds to lose and I, too, was frustrated at the stall. I was working out 5 days a week, cardio and light weights, mixing up the days I worked out and the types of exercise. I was also varying my foods but sticking to 1800 calories or so.
Now I'm taking a more conscious zig zag approach and boosting the intensity of my workouts. Good luck to you! |

Hey deegirl - we sound very similar! I'm 25, 5'6, and on Saturday I weighed 239.0 down from 298.4 last September. I'd like to be down 100 pounds by September, also.

| Weight Loss | I hit a plateau, how can I get past it?? | May 30 2008 16:34 (UTC) |
|
Hey meagang - I can totally feel your pain. After losing 55 pounds, I was stuck for a good 3-4 weeks. After being totally frustrated, last week I ate at my maintenance calories for 2 days and took a break from working out. I then dropped back down to normal calories and picked up the workouts to 4-5 days a week and tried to increase my intensity a little. I have dropped 2 pounds this week and I hope that the plateau is officially over! It seems like after losing so much weight - congrats on your 70 pounds! - our bodies are like, hold it! and they need to catch up. That's what makes sense in my head, anyway. I think I've gotten more lax on counting exactly, too because it seems like I know what I'm doing. But this week I've been a little more diligent and really paying attention to not just getting through my workouts, but pushing a little harder and eating a little better.

| Foods | What food are you ashamed to admit you used to eat all the time? | May 30 2008 15:58 (UTC) |

I used to dip everything in cream cheese - right into the blocks of the full-fat kind. I'd use pretzels, crispix, chips, and crackers as a scoop and eat half the block (about 4-5 oz) as a snack. In college I delivered chinese food from my favorite restaurant. I'd be so hungry from the smell of it in my car that I'd stop at McDonald's and get a $1 double cheeseburger just to "tie me over." After work the owner would offer to make me anything I wanted to take home with me, and I never turned him down and rarely offered to share the goods. I could also help myself to the buffet leftovers and I could never resist.

Hello to everyone who's joined recently! It looks like the long weekend got us pumped up with sodium and too much food overall, but we'll work extra hard to make sure the extra Kabobs and homemade cheesecake don't stick with us (speaking from experience). I think that tonight I'll try the push up challenge! Last night I did 55 minutes of Tae Bo and then 12 minutes of Pilates after so maybe the pushups and a quick walk will be enough for me tonight. Courtney I'm just thinking about doing pushups in a conference room or my office and how embarassed I'd be if somebody walked in - good for you!! I'm pretty sure that my plateau is over because I've totally broken past the 241.4 barrier to 240.4! I ate at my maintenance for 2 days and took a break from working out, then dropped back down to 1800-1900 and started working out again. It was scary to make myself eat at my maintenance - about 2400. Good to know that it worked this time and it's not really hard to do.

Hey group - I hope everyone had a great weekend. I have a serious case of the blahs that I'm trying to work through. I managed to work out last night but definitely did not work as hard as usual. I'm struggling because last week I had 5 really good workouts and totally kept on track calorie-wise. On Saturday, I weighed the same as last week. The same! I need to just keep a good attitude and keep working hard. But I can't help feeling frustrated. Samanthaleigh87 - I know what you mean about going out to eat. We only go out once a week so it feels like a treat. I don't usually go over maintenance, but I do usually have a smaller deficit. Also I end up "guesstimating" the calories in lettuce wraps, chicken sandwiches, etc. We have to do this for the rest of our lives so I guess we have to get used to it! |

| Weight Loss | Clearing out the wardrobe ... | May 09 2008 16:53 (UTC) |

My problem now is that I'm not sure what my style is. I'm only about halfway done losing weight (down 56 pounds!) but so far I've had to seriously clean out my closet and even get rid of the stuff that used to be too small and is now too big. Now I realize that I bought things that fit, didn't make me look like a grandma/crazy person, and just tried to get in and out of stores quickly. Now that I have more selection and am starting to like the way I look in clothes, I don't know what I like! There are some things I'm sad to give away and even my husband wants to see me in it "one last time" but when I put it on, I look totally ridiculous. There was one skirt in particular. It was brown, hit just below the knee, and had some delicate lace at the bottom. I really did love this skirt and I wore it in our engagement pictures about 5 years ago and when I tried it on a month ago it didn't stay on my hips. There's a lot of memories stored up in old clothes and it's weird to get rid of them. I can't have back-up fat clothes though, no way. No freaking way. |

I'm up 1.5 pounds from yesterday which I'm pretty sure is water weight, too. It's getting close to my special woman time, I went out for dinner last night and had a cocktail. Also, everything tasted so salty to me! That combination = more poundage that I do not own up to. So I'm making sure to drink even more water than usual (120 oz), try to work up a good sweat, and just relax about it!!
